I sit down at the bay window with Winslow beside me and I begin to read from the first entry.
Dear Diary,
Today was the day I have been dreading for a while now, my 17th birthday. I usually enjoy my birthday, Mother and Father do not make me do my chores, I receive wonderful gifts from my family and friends, we all also enjoy delicious treats, and Edith stays over at the manor with me! However this year was different, not only did I have to do all my usual chores, I had to do more, and the only gift I received was this diary from my sister, Patience, and no one got any treats! When I ask Mother and Father why they just tell me, "You have come of age, Elizabeth. Now, hurry and finish your chores." After I had finally finished, Mother made me change into a rather formal gown with dark pink fabric and white lace. Certainly not my choice in clothing. She tightens my corset and does my hair and make up. Then she leaves and tells me to wait until Patience comes to get me. My little sister is one of the only two that slightly understand me. She came and told me I have a visiter. I walked down the stairs to see a man a few years older than myself smiling at me. "Hello, Elizabeth," he greeted me. "I'm William. I've come to ask for your hand in marriage." That's when I connected the dots. This man has asked my parents for their just of age daughter's hand in marriage. I was so mad! I stamped my foot and shouted, "I turned of age today and I already have men at my door?! Men I have never met yet alone love?! I will never marry a man I have not courted for a at least a year!" My parents looked horrified and William stunned. My dear Patience looked at her elder sister in awe. I ran up to my room to await a scolding from my parents and Mother delivered it. "When a man comes to your home and presents an interest in you..." the speech goes on and on. She told me I am to stay in my room until she decides I can leave. That, my dear Diary, brings me here. Alas, it is time for bed, and I can not afford to get in more trouble. Good bye my friend.
I flip ahead a couple pages until I find a page of rushed, scrawled handwriting,
Dear Diary,
It has been a month sense Mother and Father have forced me to court William. Recently I have felt a dark presents in the manor. My favorite books have fallen from the library shelves, my school work has disappeared, and every time I try to tell Mother or father about these happenings they scold me for making up stories. My dear friend, I am currently hiding in the one place that seems safe, a thick circle of salt around the study desk. Father no doubt will yell at me and make me clean up 'the Mess in his study' soon so I must tell you this now, there is something in this house, and it's coming for me, for my family.
Love,
Liz
I stare at the words on the page. "There's no more..." I whisper. "Why wouldn't there be more?" Winslow asks. "Maybe she didn't take her Diary with her when she moved with William," I suggest. "Maybe..." Winslow ponders. I need investigate more. I do only have five more days left before the deadline. "I'm going to look around some more. Let's split up, we'll cover more ground." Winslow is quick to argue. "No way. I'm staying with you!" "Why? I'm an adult, Winslow. I can take care of my self!" "Oh, OK, sure. Except the fact you tried to stab yourself last night!" "I wasn't myself! You don't have to protect me! I-I'm not that insecure nerd anymore! This house, it has nothing against me! I'm a grown woman, Winsow!" He stares at me, startled.
(Agent Winslow's POV)
She yells at me and all I can do is stare at her. Then I get a flash back of high school. Man, that seems so long ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday...
School had just ended and I was supposed to meet Bri outside our favorite hangout, the little Italian and French cafe on the corner of the block. I waited for a while but she didn't show. It was unusual for her to be so late so I went back to the school to find her. I walked into the building and heard a soft sound echo through the halls of the small school. "Bri?" I whispered softly. No reply. The echoes grew louder the further I ventured down the hall. "Bri?" I asked as I confronted the source of the sniffs and sobs. "L-little h-help here Alex..." a soft voice says from the lockers. "Are you in the locker again?" I ask sadly. "Y-yea..." I shook my head and gently opened locker 205. It was always the same one. I helped Bri pry herself from the inside of the locker. "Man, I-I really h-have to s-stop getting i-in those l-lockers..." she sniffed, quickly turning away and wiping away her tears before I could see them. Too late. "I don't think you put yourself in there..." I whispered and she shook her head. "I-It was them..." she sniffs. "Th-they were my f-friends, Alex, a-and they do these h-horrible things. I-I knew them s-since 1st grade..." she slid down the wall and crossed her arms over legs and cried into them. "Hey..." I whispered again and slid down beside her. "You know better than this...don't give them this satisfaction, to see you hurt and crying." I put my hand on her arm and gently pushed them down to reveal her face. "Don't cover your face. You don't deserve to. You're beautiful," I smiled but she stared down at her hands and allows sparkling tears to hit the ground. "Hey," I put my finger under her chin and turned her head to face me and cupped her head. I stared into her beautiful, multi colored eyes that seemed to change from blue to turquoise to hazel, and her dead straight dark brown hair that she had so rarely worn in a pony tail, she had that day, her black framed glasses that looked like they were always supposed to be there, the freckles she had always loved that dotted over her nose and cheeks, and her tan skin, and pink lips. She was, and still is, so very beautiful, "Whatever you do," I told her gently, "don't let them see that they get to you, that they hurt you or you give them power over you." She gave a watery smile, "Thanks, Alex." She grinned and gave me a bone crushing hug. "You're my best friend, Alex. You know that?" I hugged her back and simply nodded my head. I've been friend-zoned yet again, and you know what? I don't mind, as long as my girl's happy, I'm happy.
"Alex!" Bri's shouting brings be back to reality too soon. "Huh?" "You zoned out!" "Oh. Sorry," I murmur. "What's that?" I ask hurriedly. I notice a small black thing in her hand. "O-oh, n-nothing," says and turns her back on me. "What is it?" I say slowly. "I-it's a bud. From that bush..." she turns back and shows me the flower. It lays perfectly flat in her hand, uncrushed by her tight fist. The flower gives sinister vibes and I back away from it. "Put it down, Agent," I say quietly. "No. I'm the boss here Winslow! This is my mission! So you do as I say or get out! Leave me!" "IT COULD BE DANGEROUS!! I CAN'T-" I stop short. "What? You can't what?!" She demands. "Forget it. I'm out," I mutter and walk toward the door. "What?!" "You heard me! I'm out!" "Fine! Go ahead! See if I care! Wimp out! You'll be fired!" "I can deal," I slam the door behind me, leaving my stuff and Lestrange behind.
(Agent Lestrange's POV)
I can't believe it. He left me. I didn't realize it until now, but he's what makes me feel safe here, in this house. I shudder and walk up stairs. "Bri...come on...he left you...stay with us..." "Who's there!? I HAVE A KNIFE!!" I shriek into the darkness. "We mean to true harm..." the lofty voice whispers. It seems to be coming from everywhere. "What's that supposed to mean?!" I shrill. "We want you to stay...FOREVER!" The voice gives a shrill laugh and something like a wave of cold and pure evil spins around me and with a flash of silver, everything goes black.
HEY WAZZUP?!
