Memories and Vengeful Confrontation
"Church? Your telling me that thing is Church." Tucker says shocked at the Monitor.
"Well, not exactly. See, um, technically, uh, this thing is, uh, just a memory of Church. Um, his name is Epsilon."
"Epsa-whatsawhat?"
[Epsilon.] Zone corrects.
"Uh, yeah, see, he's a resident memory of the guy that Church was based on, so he's kind of like, remembering himself. Yeah, Simmons can explain, yeah, much better than I can, probably."
"Sounds like I have another reason to be glad Simmons isn't here." Grif mutters.
"Wait, I thought he was Simmons?" Epsilon says looking at Sarge.
"He's Sarge. Sa-a-aarggee-e." Caboose says slowly.
"I'm confused, not deaf, you idiot! Now who's the yellow one?"
"I'm not yellow, I'm orange!" Grif states.
"Yeah, then how'd you know who I was talking about?"
"How come he remembers us, but not who we are?" Tucker asks.
"Why does everyone think I'm yellow?! Seriously! Didn't anybody have a box of crayons when they were a kid?"
"Oh, it will come back to him. See, I've been telling him stories, about all of us. Well, most of us." Caboose then looks at Tucker.
"Is that what you've been trying to do all this time? Rebuild your buddy?" Sarge asks.
"Yes...no...maybe...which will make you less mad?"
"So the only stuff he knows about us is what you told him? That's scary on a lot of levels, dude." Tucker points out.
"Why?"
"Why? Okay, quick quiz. Who am I?"
"You're, Captain Flowers right? You're dead. I've been meaning to ask you about that part. Is he like a zombie?"
"Uh-huh, and who is he?" Tucker gestures to Grif.
"He's Grif, which is spelled with two "f's"."
"For the love of-! Okay, now that's another thing!"
"Caboose was very specific about that second "f"."
"Yeah, and what about the red guy?" Tucker gestures to Sarge.
"Well, if he's not Simmons, then I guess he's Sarge. That would make him the gruf and regimented leader of the Red Team."
"That actually seems pretty-"
"Just, give him one more second."
"Which would make him also the captain of their pirate ship." Epsilon adds.
"There it is."
"I am a good story teller." Caboose smiles.
"How are you gonna tell stories? You can't even read stories." Tucker states.
"I can read!"
"Caboose is the only guy I know of who had an illustrated field manual. He's a moron."
[Caboose, where did you get Epsilon?]
"Oh yeah, see, we were helping Agent Washington take down the Meta, and he told us to save Epsilon. So I thought if he is Church's memories then I can save Church! And now he is here!"
"Wait a doggone-! You mean to tell me that you never gave that back to the UNSC? That was the deal for getting our new bases numbnuts!" Sarge exclaims.
[Dad that's not the issue right now, what IS the issue is how we're gonna get him out of that thing.] Suddenly Epsilon begins to float to the side.
"Uh, dude? Where are you going?" Grif asks.
"Uh, yeah I don't have complete control of my body. KEEP TALKING ABOUT ME!" Epsilon says out of vision range.
"Church, wait!" Caboose and Tucker go after him leaving the Reds.
"I knew it. This was a trap!" Sarge states.
[What's a trap?]
"Don't you see, fellas? The Blues are trying to beat us!"
"What, you mean at having decent leadership?" Grif suggests.
"No! I mean, they have all their men back! That means they can attack us whenever."
"You honestly believe that the Blues orchestrated all of this, just so they can attack us?"
"Of course. They've been leading us along this entire time! It was all a diabolical scheme to get the drop on us! We just didn't see it until now, because it was so cunningly crafted."
"We're talking about the same Blues here, right? There's not some, other group of Blues that I haven't heard of?" Grif asks.
"Of course not!"
"Yeah. Then no, you're wrong. The new dude, he's a floating ball. I don't think he even counts as a person."
[That's kinda harsh.]
"Exactly. He's a wildcard. We don't even know what he's capable of!"
"He's a ball! He's capable of rolling. And maybe bouncing..." Suddenly there's a large explosion and the temple rumbles again.
"Peter, Paul, and Ringo! What the heck was that?!" Sarge says looking around.
"That did not sound good." Caboose and Tucker run in.
"Did you guys hear that?" Tucker asks.
"Heard what? Of course we heard that, idiot!"
"Oh great, I think they broke down the door."
"What!? Who would do that thing you said to the other thing?" Epsilon says floating in.
[The heck's the matter with him?]
"He disabled his memory or something dumb while trying to unlock this massive laser eye he's got. I don't know." Tucker explains.
"Laser?"
"See?" Sarge says glaring at Grif.
"Who has a laser?"
"You do!"
"I do?"
"Yes." Tucker answers frustrated.
"That's awesome, man, I feel...great about whatever it is that we're talking about."
"Caboose, shouldn't you be killing him or something?" Tucker asks. Caboose walks up and hits Epsilon with the butt of his rifle.
"Ow! Hey, cut it out!"
"Tucker did it."
"No he didn't, idiot, you did."
"So you remember that."
"Why wouldn't I remember that?" Epsilon asks.
"You don't remember why you wouldn't remember? Then I guess you're fixed, screw it."
"You guys never make any sense."
"Yeah. That's our problem." Tucker sighs.
"Over here! Split up. You two, guard the entrance. Don't let them out." Headcase's voice is heard from far off.
"Uh, I think we have more pressing issues at the moment, fellas." Sarge states.
"He's right."
"I thought you said they couldn't bust through the door!" Grif exclaims.
"When did you guys start listening to me?"
[Get to cover!] Zone then takes out his carbine. Two Elites then walk in looking around. Grif and Zone look around the corner and hide.
"Crap, there's two of them."
"Grif. Don't panic. You've been trained for this." Sarge says encouragingly.
"This? I've been trained for this? Being stuck in an ancient temple, surrounded by mystic technology, while being hunted by aliens from another planet? This is what I've been trained for?!"
"Okay, well maybe not this specifically, but elements of this! Which when combined and liberally interpreted, bear a close resemblance of this."
"Not even close!"
"Ahh, just shut up and fight. Today is a good day for you to die! Yaaah!" Sarge, Grif, and Zone run in the hallway and fire their weapons. They take out one of the Elites but the other throws a grenade sending them back into cover.
Tucker then activates his sword. "I just need them to get a little closer." He mutters.
"Hey...Church? Are you doing that?" Caboose asks.
"Doing what?" Epsilon begins to spin a crate floating next to him. "Oh, cool! Am I? Oh look, I am! It's awesome!"
"What the-? When did you get telekinesis?" Tucker asks.
"You have teleportesis!? Can you hear what I am thinking right now?"
"What? No!"
[My guess would be, nothing.]
"Oh my God, Zone has it too!"
"Look at this! This is so awesome! I wonder what other powers I have. Man, I could be, the most powerful being in the entire universe. I'm like a superhero!" Epsilon starts floating away.
"Where are you going?"
"Oops, uh, yeah, I seem to have lost control of my body again." Epsilon says disappearing from view.
"Yeah, some superhero. You freaking moron." Tucker says shaking his head. The Elite comes back in with a turret firing at the hallway.
[Dang it! He's got a turret!] Zone says narrowly avoiding the oncoming fire.
"Grif, listen. We may not both make it out of this." Sarge points out.
"What?"
"If you die, I think I'm prepared to live with that. I practiced it a lot. But there's also a chance you might survive and I won't!"
"There'd be a better chance if you'd help me shoot!" Grif says firing his weapon.
"In case I don't make it, I can't help but think about all the future mistakes you're gonna make that I'm not gonna be there to scream at you about!"
[Dad will you knock it off and fire your freaking shotgun?! Xi give me a way to take him out!]
"You could use your invisibility!" Zone nods before disappearing.
"What-? Where did Zone go?" Tucker asks. The Elite continues to fire until he sees a flash of red cut the spinning barrel of his turret in half. Zone reappears in front of the Elite with his sword in hand. He was about to strike the Elite down when Epsilon floats into the room.
"Oh hey. What's up?" The Elite immediately drops to his knees and bows to Epsilon. "Um, the alien's being weird in here."
"What's it doing?" Grif asks.
"No, no, I've seen this before. Some of the aliens worship this ancient technology. This one probably thinks Church is some kind of god." Tucker explains.
"Wow! Seriously? That's pretty cool." Epsilon says looking at the Elite.
"Maybe that's why your name is Church!" Caboose gasps.
"Oh, what's up, prayin' dude? How do ya' like me now? BIPOW!" Epsilon, using his telekinetic ability, hits the Elite with the crate from earlier knocking it out.
[Epsilon! What'd you hit him for?] Zone says shocked.
"Well, what good is being a god if you can't smite some people? Let's have fun..."
"The shots came from down here! Form up, men!"
"Whoa! Incoming!" Sarge warns.
"Good luck, guys!" Epsilon floats into cover. Headcase, Smith, and a few other soldiers and Elites came into the temple surrounding the Reds and Blues.
"Freeze! Lower your weapons!" Headcase orders. He looks at Tucker. "You... do you have any idea how much trouble you've caused me? I should kill you right here."
[Well you're about to get a lot more of it...Headcase.] Zone says stepping in front of Tucker. Headcase raises his weapon at Zone.
"Where. Did. You. Here. That. Name?"
[You'll know after I start choking you to death...]
"Somebody's gettin' killed? I wanna watch." Epsilon says appearing.
"You activated it?!" Headcase says shocked.
"Activated what?" Epsilon looks around.
"Secure the relic! Don't let it get away!" Headcase orders as one of his men takes out a plasma pistol. It begins to glow green.
"Oh, cool pistol! Green's my favorite color."
[Church! Look-] Before Zone could finish, the soldier fires his weapon and the blast hit Epsilon knocking him out.
"Church!" Caboose says worried.
"Blrrgh!" Smith says shocked.
"Great shot, Jones."
"Thanks! But it's actually pronounced Jo-an-es, sir." Smith then hits Jones in the face knocking him down and begins to pummel him.
"Smith!? What are you doing?!" Headcase says backing away. The other Elites fire at Headcase's men.
"What's happening?!" Sarge asks.
"Dude, the aliens don't like their human buddies beating up on their religious artifacts." Tucker shouts avoiding fire.
"Get out of the way!" Headcase grabs Epsilon and runs.
"Let's go!" Tucker says running.
"Wait! We need to grab Church!" Caboose exclaims.
"That guy in brown armor grabbed him!" Grif points at the exit.
[Come on!] Zone then leads the way as the Reds and Blues follow him.
"Cover me until I'm clear!" Headcase tells his men as he exits the temple. He puts Epsilon in the side of his Warthog and drives off. His men then take a Mongoose and drive off after him. Sarge, Zone, Grif, and Caboose run out of the temple and see them flee.
"There he goes! Everybody, get in the jeep!" Grif says running for their Warthog that was flipped over.
"We gotta get that thing turned over!"
"I'll do it!" Caboose grabs the underside and flips it over.
"Wow, you are strong." They all enter the Warthog. Zone sees an empty Mongoose and hops on.
"Is this thing gonna even start?" Grif asks.
"Hopefully. Come on, Chupababy!" Sarge says rubbing his seat. Grif starts the engine and drives off as Tucker is seen running around the temple.
"Tucker, where are you going?" Caboose calls to him.
"There's no room for me! I'll be right back!" The four then drive off in their vehicles chasing after Headcase.
"Caboose take 'em out!" Sarge says.
"Okay."
"No don't you stall the jeep!" Grif says steering to get near them. Zone drives past them and takes out one of his SMGs firing at Headcase's men that were on another Mongoose. The soldier in the back had a rocket launcher and fires a missile at Zone. Zone swerves his Mongoose so he avoids the rocket but then spins out of control knocking him off. He gets up and sees Headcase taking a different path. He hops on his Mongoose and takes off in the other direction.
Meanwhile, Sarge, Grif, and Caboose still struggled to fire on the soldiers on the Mongoose. Caboose fires the turret making the Warthog come to complete stop.
"Ah crap, it stalled!" Grif says turning the ignition. The soldiers then pull up and the one in the back prepares to fire his launcher.
"HEY MORONS!" The soldiers turn and look up and Tucker yells as he comes into view riding some type of large motorcycle. He keeps yelling until he misses trying to land on them and into the temple entrance.
"Crap." He says.
"Cannons charged." Caboose says.
"Okay, screw it, shoot 'em." Sarge tells him. Caboose blows up the Mongoose. Tucker comes out of the entrance on his vehicle.
"Uh, hey guys. Sorry about that." He chuckles awkwardly.
"Tucker, where did you get that?" Caboose asks.
"Oh, this is my ride! The aliens gave it to me as a gift. Pretty cool."
"Did they give you driving lessons too?" Grif asks sarcastically.
"No, we kinda skipped that part. But it looks awesome." Headcase pulls into view.
"There he is." Caboose says pointing.
"Get after him!" Tucker orders.
"We can't lose Church."
"We won't!"
"You always say that, but we always do!" Zone then drives and exits his Mongoose as he sees Headcase driving his way. Zone then pulls out his energy sword.
"Wait for it..." Xi says as Headcase drives full speed at him. "NOW!" Zone swipes his sword at Headcase's Warthog just before rolling out of the way. He stands and there and watches the Warthog erupt in flames. Headcase flies out and hits the ground before running off. The Reds and Blues pull up.
[You guys find Epsilon. Headcase is MINE!] Zone then charges after him.
"Okay!" Caboose gets off the Warthog turret and runs to the destroyed Warthog. "Church! Where are you?" Zone is running on top of the temple and sees no sign of torturer.
[Xi where is he?]
"Freeze!" Zone turns and sees Headcase with his rifle pointed at him. "Okay pal, just how the heck do you know my former name?" Zone starts backing up with Headcase walking towards him as he nears the edge of the top of the temple.
[Maybe this'll jog your memory.] Zone pulls off his helmet and reveals his face. Headcase lowers his weapon in shock before starting to chuckle. He then bursts out laughing maniacally.
"Well, well, well, Arizona. This just made killing you a whole lot sweeter. Still missing Carolina?"
[Still missing Connie?]
"Don't even. We both know we've lost the girls we love. But me and MY team were the good guys."
[I know that now. But you need to answer for the crimes you've made.]
"ME?! What about you! You think your innocent in all of this?! You and your Freelancer buddies killed my friends. They killed my family! And somebody needs to pay. And that somebody is you. Say goodbye!" Headcase prepares to fire before Epsilon floats up next to Zone.
"Hey, what's up?"
"What the heck is that thing?" Epsilon's eye glows red.
"Oh, son of a..." Epsilon shoots Headcase as he falls to the ground.
"I am not a thing. My name is Leonard Church...and you will fear my LASER FACE!" Epsilon shouts as his eye turns blue again.
"Hoohoo, heck yeah! Dude, you just got messed up!" Tucker laughs as he, Caboose and the Reds show up.
"Wow! Now that was awesome." Caboose says amazed.
"Yeah, awesome." Grif agrees.
"Church, how did you do that?" Tucker asks.
"I don't really know. I just got really mad and it just kind of, y'know, happened."
"Can you do that again, like to the yellow guy or something?"
"I guess...not really sure." Zone walks over and flips Headcase on his back with his foot. Headcase is gasping for air as blood pours out of his armor.
[It's a shame, I wanted to be the one that kills you.]
"Hehehe, well...I've got no regrets. And torturing you...will never be one." A pumping noise is heard and Headcase turns his head and sees the end of Sarge's shotgun.
"Nobody. Tortures. My. Son." Sarge growls as he fires his shotgun, blowing up Headcase's helmet. Blood splurged out of it profusely. "You alright Rex?"
[Yeah, fine dad.]
"Look guys, we need to keep our head in the game. Let's get back into that temple and close it down for good." Tucker says.
"Um guys...I think we might have a problem." Caboose says pointing down at the ledge. The rest of the group looks down and sees. Elites were now surrounding the temple and look up at them.
"Uh-oh." Epsilon says.
End Credits for this part of the story. Here's a song I like that goes along with it.
