whatever it takes.
"So my choices are what again?" I questioned to piss him off, "the USB or Jungkook," he smiled while gritting his teeth. "Fine. Give me the USB," I easily chose, stepping forward to get it but he stepped back.
"What?"
"I said give me the USB?" I tilted my head in confusion. "No, what, no, that quickly? The whole point of this game was to make you suffer, how could you choose so easily?" He was dumbfounded.
"Well he's my ex, I'd rather get rid of that USB, I mean come on Jaechan, you could've made anything the other choice and it would've been more difficult, are you seriously an idiot?" I lied. I was manipulating him, making him feel stupid for this little game. Like I mentioned earlier, he's a daredevil, he wants trouble, he wants me to hurt.
"Really now? Then you won't mind me doing this," he signalled the man in the car to start accelerating against the other vehicle.
I sucked in my breath, trying not to react but the worry plastered all over my expression gave it away, Jaechan knew he was succeeding.
"Alright you had your fun, stop it," I ordered, now feeling anxious. "No, go save him yourself," he smirked, the car getting closer and closer to tipping over the cliff.
"Jaechan stop being such a fucking psycho,"
"You shouldn't say that. You shouldn't tell a psychopath they're a psychopath. We don't like it." He suddenly charged towards me, throwing a punch across my already fucked up face. "Isn't he the person who did this to your face? And you rushed here to save that same man?" He scoffed before I cracked my neck, there was no need to go easy on him.
I did a crescent kick, pushing him back onto some rocks where he hit his head relatively hard. "You're focusing on the wrong ex," he spat out blood while chuckling. I mentally cursed, realising I'd let myself get distracted with my hatred for him. I raced towards the vehicles, running a competition between me and fate I knew I couldn't win.
As soon as I reached the car I attempted to open the door and get an unconscious Jungkook out, but of course it was locked. Jaechan would've never succeeded in this plan to even get JK in this situation if it wasn't for what happened today. It completely broke him, he had no will to avoid anything and once again, everything was my fault.
I punched on the window with all my force as I heard a sinister chuckle erupt from behind me. "It's bulletproof you egg," Jaechan told me, the driver in the other car reversed his car to build more momentum before smashing into the other vehicle, nearing Jungkook to death. "STOP IT, can't you tell? I pick Jungkook, game over, stop this madness," I requested Jaechan. "Can't you tell? This game only ends when I'm satisfied, only when he's dead," he replied.
I picked up a huge rock, it weighed at least 40kg, I lunged it towards the window, trying my best to get it broken, even if it meant I broke my own hands in the process. The fresh bullet wound didn't help at all, it stung so badly it felt like it was paralysing my shoulder muscles. I changed aims, moving to the other car to at least get the driver killed so the acceleration would stop. Luckily the other car wasn't bulletproof, one firm punch and the glass shattered.
I yanked the man out roughly with one hand, my anger fuelled my strength. "NO THAT'S NOT HOW THIS GOES!" A handful of my hair was pulled back harshly and smashed against the car door, making me drop the other man. I reached backwards and grabbed Jaechan, flipping him over completely as I stepped onto him, the crack I heard must've been one of his ribs.
His yearn for the death of Jungkook overshadowed the pain of a broken bone. While I turned back to Jungkook's vehicle trying to get him out, the force against his car restarted with Jaechan's evilness. But this time I couldn't afford to go fight, I had to get Jungkook out or the car would fly straight down. I put a hand on my bullet wound, firming the pain as I swung my arm around to stretch it. And then as a last resort, I stood between Jungkook's car and the cliff edge, using all my might to keep it from falling.
"JUNGKOOK PLEASE WAKE UP!" I yelled in agony, not being able to tolerate the pain from the bullet wound. "If there's a god out there, please... PLEASE, give me the strength to save his life," I bursted out into tears of despair. I felt so helpless.
I shut it all off. The pain. I shut it out.
I stopped my desperate attempt to do something I couldn't, there's no god up there to help me. I stood straight, wiping my tears away with my blood stained hands as I glared up to meet eyes with Jaechan who was sitting in the drivers seat, still pressing on the pedal.
"Go on, keep doing that. You'll kill the person you need most, the person crucial to your plan. Kill me."
I ordered him, bracing myself for death since I didn't see a single change of expression on Jaechan's face. He decelerated his car, smirking before he drove forwards once again, hitting the vehicle 10x harder than he had before. And then? Everything went black.
---------
"Wake up for fucks sake,"
I shot awake. And maybe it was because of the fact that I was dangling from my ankles, but god did I feel lightheaded. "IT'S ABOUT TIME. I mean yes I drove you off a cliff and almost killed you and I personally enjoyed the sight, BUT I DIDN'T THINK IT'D TAKE YOU 3 WEEKS TO WAKE UP!" Jaechan complained.
"W-what- 3 weeks? And no one from the CIS has come looking?" I muttered, my words barely coming out because of my dizziness. "I mean of course they've been trying, but they haven't had much luck, we're kind of underneath the west Pacific Ocean, Shadow has peculiar ways to stay hidden," he shrugged.
"Wait- Jungkook. Is he ok? Did you-"
"Of course not, as much as I wanted to I didn't. I'll make sure you have the honour to do so," he smirked. The room was filled with scientists in lab coats and tech far more advanced the world had ever known. This was why they went undercover for so many years, they needed time to develop everything to the best of their ability.
I was let down from all the tech, placed straight on a chair where my hands were firmly behind my back.
"All these years of a plan, I didn't think I'd end up losing patience when getting so close to accomplishing it," he massaged his temples. "Why? I mean really, why? Why are you after me? Is loyalty that important to you? All these years for what? What can you possibly do with a woman nearing her death?" I questioned as practically everyone in the room bursted out into laughter.
"You- you think this is about your physical ability? You still think this is about loyalty? Gosh you fucking idiot, are you really that naive? Think about it Byeol, why didn't we do anything when you killed the chairman?" He shot a question back at me but I was empty for answers. "You think his head contained ANYTHING useful? Byeol c'mon, he was the heir of a fucking mafia kingdom, even with his status of controlling one of the most powerful organisations, the government told him nothing," he explained.
"So when you killed him, and the biggest agent in the world took over, we waited till your brain was trusted and filled with a lot of precious information. But it wasn't anything you couldn't have figured out on your own right? With your mental capability you could decipher the most complicated encrypted codes, and with that ability your mind became the most powerful weapon known to man. So no, we don't want to control you to make you kill a bunch of petty people, we want you to help us destroy the world. Your brain contains government secrets, power to reign war-"
"Nuclear codes."
I cut him off in my own realisation. It all made sense. If my hands were free I would've covered my mouth in the amount of shock I was going through. So that was the big plan. To wreak havoc on the planet. "So Kim Byeol, tell me, tell me the location, and the code of activation for the nuke sold to SK last month," he ordered me. "Why ask me? When you can just take it out my head, when you can force it out," I rolled my eyes till I furrowed my eyebrows at his expression.
"You haven't gotten the right combination of trigger words yet, have you?" I spoke, making him avoid eye contact in embarrassment. "There's hundreds of languages and dialects and so many orders of the words, we've been trying all of them but..." He paused as I looked around to the monitors connected to my neurones. "My brain isn't reacting," I finished off his words, the corners of my lips tilting the slightest bit upwards.
"Don't get your hopes up, we still have a couple more combinations to go, and one of them is your endgame. But I don't have the time or patience anymore. There's 3 days left till a specific event, an event that would determine the certain death of a man I've wanted dead since the day I entered the world. So I need the nuke code, NOW. Tell me," he commanded.
"Don't tell me the country you want to nuke is North Korea," I realised his intentions quickly. "Of course it is, how dare he live so happily after making my life a living hell?" He was talking about his father.
"You were abandoned so he could keep his reputation, now as sad as that is, you're acting like you weren't able to have access to the finest things, you CHOSE to be a slave, some of us didn't have a choice. It's been what, 10 years since you must've escaped? You aren't letting yourself heal from trauma, so all the sadness you feel is your fault. Grow up and get the fuck over it. You didn't suffer half as much as everyone else. Stop playing victim," I lectured him.
"The nuke was sold to us by the U.S just last month, now if you bomb the north everything will seem calculated and planned, it will mark the beginning of all ends. World war 3, a nuclear war, the war that will end human kind," I tried to knock some sense into his stupid plan. He leaned down to my height, stopping 5cm away from my face, "I don't care," he whispered.
"If you do this, there will be no difference between you and your father-"
"I'M NOTHING LIKE MY FATHER!" He yelled in fury, a sudden outburst of exasperation, throwing a large punch my way.
"No? Then why are you acting like him?" I tilted my head, watching him gulp before he changed the topic.
"Tell me the nuke code, quickly," he said, but I blatantly ignored him. "I SAID TELL ME! OR ELSE-"
"OR ELSE WHAT." I screamed back, spit releasing along with words, "you'll kill me?" I tilted my head mockingly as he pulled out a gun, pointing it near my head, I'd gotten oh so used to that. I moved closer and rested my forehead against the gun.
"Do it."
Tension built in the room, even the scientists nearby who couldn't understand what we were saying stiffened. He dropped the gun before rolling his eyes, he couldn't kill the only person necessary to his plan. I was released from the chair and pushed into a glass cage with a certain type of gas that made me drowsy. So even if I was to escape I'd easily be put back into chains.
"You know, since we're gonna be here a while, why don't you ask me? You must be curious no? On how I escaped when you practically killed me?" He brought up a topic that I'd rather shoot myself than to talk about. "Actually I've never been more uninterested in something," I rested back on the cold wall.
"So when you left, a maid found me, she happened to be an experienced medic. She had this type of herb mixture that doesn't exist anymore, it healed me in the matter of a few days. When I was better and came back to town, I realised that my father had thought me dead, and he didn't even mourn. Luckily on the event of his birthday, all security was at the palace to secure him incase of any assassination attempts. The borders were slightly less packed and that's when I slipped through the cracks," he began.
"Although, unlike you I didn't make it to South Korea, I went to Japan. Almost immediately found by their mafia, the Yakuza. They sold me to Shadow, and with similar aims, and through all these years with them, I built my way up the hierarchy. It was only after you killed the chairman I got full control, Shadow is all mine, and I have to thank you for that," he chuckled.
Suddenly, a kid was pushed into the cage with me which confused me. "Well if the trigger words do work, we'll test your loyalty and how well you heed to our words," Jaechan shrugged.
"By asking me to kill a CHILD? What is wrong with you, you fucking animal," I looked at the little girl, she had to be only 7 years old. She had almond coloured skin that wasn't able to show off it's beauty because of how horrible her diet must've been. I attempted to go closer to her, to provide the littlest bit of comfort I had to offer.
"What's your name?" I asked sweetly, "728," she replied, showing the mark burned into her hand. I swallowed my disgust, instantly pulling her into my embrace. "I want you to promise me, that if I start acting a little... weird, you'll fight your hardest, and make sure to beat me," I closed my eyes, feeling apologetic for her fate.
"Void."
"Seven."
That familiar liquid built up in my eyes again, I looked to Jaechan in disbelief, he was standing proudly, figuring out the correct language; Armenian, and the correct order.
"Border."
"STOP IT STOP!" I grabbed my head in excruciating affliction, it felt like someone was tearing out my brains, a feeling I wished to never feel again.
"Orphan."
"Weapon."
"Eleven."
"J."
3rd person pov.
As Jaechan finished uttering the combination, Byeol's screams stopped. Her earnest attempt to cover her ears had failed, and her entire body shut down. At the control of someone else.
"Byeol?" Jaechan stepped closer to the glass of the cage she was still in, bending down to her height since she had collapsed onto her knees. "Hera?" He spoke again, speaking the rightful name.
"Ready to comply."
