fulfil.
The surgery had began with me at the edge of my seat, I constantly fiddled with the ring I'd found in his pocket. He'd be alright, right? I mean the doctors told me beforehand that like I presumed, the bullet hadn't struck a place where it'd cause serious damage.
Internal organs weren't touched luckily, and it was just a matter of safely pulling out the bullet. "Byeol," his brothers entered the hospital, breathing out as they saw me. "He'll be fine, I've asked my agents to track down the shooter," I assured them, giving all of them a little pat on the back. Right as I was about to hug Taehyung, he walked past me, like I didn't even exist. Weird.
"The patient will wake up in a few hours, there's nothing to worry about," the doctor who'd just walked out the ER informed us. We thanked him and plopped down. "The president wants a word with us tomorrow," Namjoon told me, making me sigh. I wonder what they'll do to me.
I sat beside Jungkook, watching him soundly sleep, I hoped he'd regain consciousness soon.
next day
"You're wearing the ring," a tired voice uttered making me flutter my eyes open. I'd fallen asleep beside his bed without realising. "Of course," I smiled but his expression remained still. "Is something wrong?" I asked, helping him sit up as he wished. "I just... I don't know if we should, marry? You know, maybe I was out of line with the thought of it," he stated making my eyebrows raise slightly in surprise.
"Oh."
"Right, it was way out of line," I silently took off the ring under the bed. "When I become good enough, when I become worthy of you, then I'll pop the question," he smiled.
"What? You changed your mind because you thought that you weren't good enough?" I questioned in disbelief, "well... Yeah, I mean I look back and I'm the root of every problem we ever had between each other. If I fix up then we'll never have to worry about arguments during marriage, I need to be perfect," he responded.
"No you don't, Jungkook I've never wanted you to be perfect, I can't ask you to be something I'm not, I just wanted real. I wanted safe. And your Euphoria ways were far from safe, they were psychotic, that's the only thing I wished to change about you," I tried to knock some sense into him.
"But I want to be. For you, for us. Even when I drop being Euphoria, I still have so many flaws-"
"AND I LOVE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM. They make you who you are, I don't understand what's gotten into you," I cut him off, worried for his weird mindset. I calmed down, knowing his blood pressure was to be kept normal. "I got a message from the vice president, they're awarding you and your brother's a medal of honour, the media is invited and I suggest you go," I told him.
"They didn't invite you?" He asked, "they did, but not for honour, I don't think so at least. They must have a bone to pick with me, 24 hours of a murder spree, if I'm lucky I'll just get arrested." I replied, "that's not fair, you saved more lives than you took," he spoke. "I'm not sure what they want with me, but you should be there." I said, "but I'm not well," he said, tucking himself back in.
"You were healthy and fit enough to argue with me about how you felt proposing to me was a mistake, I think you'll be just fine to go there to get a medal," I gave him a fake smile, leaving the ring on his table as I exited the room.
I was so embarrassed, so restless. Does he think asking someone to marry them isn't a big deal? And then taking it back and acting impulsive? It's all so childish, he's toying with my feelings without realising.
*ring*
I picked up the phone, answering the call from Taehyung. "Hi-"
"Come to the address I'm sending you, it's the president's house," he cut me off coldly, ending the call as soon as he finished telling me what he needed to. Why have everyone become such dicks? Ugh, men.
I got in my car, driving to the destination with a mind full of guilt. I'd done things worthy of execution, I kept deadly secrets from the government that put the safety of millions at stake.
I stepped out the car, going in through the back since I could already hear the reporters out front. "Agent, welcome," the vice president said, leading me to a meeting room.
"Hera, is it? Is that what they call you? Our most esteemed agent sat to be our downfall, the things you know and the danger you put the world in is unacceptable. How could you not tell us about the experiments? We would've done everything in our power to find the very trigger words that haunt you and destroy them. But no, you chose to keep it a secret, resulting in the death of many innocents. Look at them Byeol," he ordered me, flashing a remote to the screen. I slowly turned around, eyes on the screen where they showed the pictures of my victims.
I bit my tongue in order to tolerate the horrors, but then when they included videos of how I killed them. I felt like throwing up. I looked away, releasing shaky breaths.
"LOOK AT THEM BYEOL. They were kids," he yelled at me. "What on earth is going on in here?" The president entered the room with his eyebrows furrowed. I wiped the single tear that had slipped down my cheek and bowed quickly.
"I was just, showing her the consequences of her actions," the vice president told him. "Right, so where are the videos of the North Koreans bowing to her for saving their lives? An entire country went on one knee for this woman where is the footage of that? Did you know about that Byeol?" The president asked me out of nowhere, "no sir, I was not aware," I replied.
"Come to my office, there's a bunch of reporters but don't worry about it," the president told me so I followed behind him, still shaken from the footage shown to me earlier. Of me strangling the life out of a 9 year old and liking it.
As soon as I entered the room the reporters started flashing their cameras, they calmed down at the gesture of the president. "I am honoured to have you as a citizen in my country, you not only saved my life but millions. Of course, all things considered and for the safety of everyone including yourself, we will quarantine you in a safe house until there is a cure for whatever they embedded in your head," the president said.
"The president of North Korea ordered a meeting with you tomorrow, so you'll take our private jet there," he suddenly informed.
"Excuse me?" I asked, taken aback by this information. "Sorry, I do realise it's quite last minute, but he wanted to express his gratitude in person and his schedule was only empty tomorrow, you don't have a problem with that... Do you?" He tilted his head, I gulped before forcing a smile upon my lips, "of course not," I responded. We headed outside, to the front of his house where a crowd of reporters stood.
The members of BTS stood tall, waiting for the medals to be presented to them. I walked next to Jimin, "no sign of Jungkook?" I raised an eyebrow, "no sign at all," he replied making me sigh. Medals were rewarded to us, while my eyes stayed glued onto the door, waiting for him to arrive. But he didn't.
Little did I know he did, but not to receive a medal, but to watch me get what I deserved. He must've just stood in the corner, blending in with the crowd, only there to admire my success.
next day
"Are you out of your mind?" Jungkook lectured me as I had already packed my things. "Precisely,"
I shortly responded, ready to enter my car to take me to the private jet the president had prepared for me.
"You can't go to North Korea, you can't meet with the man who the last time he saw you, he put a bullet in your chest," he said. "People change, second guess their decisions, you'd know that very well," I replied with a tone of saltiness. "If this is still about me cancelling my proposal then wait," he grabbed my wrist, turning me around swiftly as he ran his hands around my waist.
"I was going to wait for this but, seen as you're so angry let me hurry it up," he softly uttered, falling down on one knee. "I never regretted proposing Byeol, it was the how it happened. I got shot and landed in the hospital making it so you'd have to figure it out yourself that I wanted to marry you, that's the worst way to propose ever." He chuckled, caressing my hand. "I love you Kim Byeol, always will do. Now do me a favour and marry me, so I can stay a good man under your influence for eternity," he pulled out the ring I'd left at the hospital.
"So, will you?" He tilted his head adorably, "yes, yes I will," I contained my smile at him. "Keep yourself safe out there," he whispered, pulling me into a hug.
*beep beep*
"It's time to go, I'll see you soon," I quickly pecked him on the cheek and exited the house. The entire ride to the jet I felt anxious, agreeing to meet with that man was a foolish idea, how would I uphold myself? Even when I had boarded the jet I felt so horrible, a gut feeling told me this was a terrible idea yet my body continued to stay sat. After a short flight we'd reached the place, the smell of the country was all too nostalgic. It made me uncomfortable.
A couple of guards led me to a tent where the president was, I held my breath as soon as I went in. He still wears the same perfume; blood.
"Ah, hello, I've been expecting you," he turned around, the gaze ripping right through me. I felt little. He made me feel cornered without doing anything and that's how he was one of the most horrible dictators in the world. "It's lovely to meet you," he extended his arm, I cringed inside before accepting his handshake. I held it firmly yet had an elegant smile plastered on, creating tension.
"This country will be forever in your favour, we're all extremely relieved to know that even when our countries aren't in the best of terms, you go all your way to protect us. It's respectable," he spoke, as we sat down. His soldiers wouldn't leave the room at all, I wanted alone time with this monster. "Guards, excuse us," he ordered them, practically reading my mind.
But I read his too. Sinful desires written in those evil orbs. "What do you think about the concept of revenge?" I suddenly questioned, changing his train of thoughts. "It's a very important concept, we all get what we deserve in death. Revenge is the most crucial part of living, it gives you purpose," he replied, making my lips tilt up with sinister thoughts.
"I completely agree, you reap what you sow," I got up from my seat and stood tall in front of him.
"As horrible as your son turned out, you made him that way, you were his purpose, one he never got to fulfil," I confused him, taking out a grenade out of the blue. "I'll pull the pin and disguise it as an assassination attempt on you, and everyone will believe it because you're one of the most hated men in all history, great plan of revenge don't you think?"
I smiled, the entire way I'd been contemplating it. How could I meet with him and let him live? That's not my style at all.
"GUARDS-" I cut him off by putting a gun in his mouth, "don't test me," I spat. "Why are you doing this? I don't even know you," he said making me laugh. "Look into these eyes, you won't find this stain of murder in anyone elses," I smirked, leaning down eye level to him. "You..." He came to the realisation as his eyes widened. "You should've killed me when you had the chance," I breathed out.
"Vengeance was his,"
"I will repay."
