consequences.
byeol pov.
I watched life leave his eyes. The bullet had embedded itself into his forehead, guaranteeing death. After dropping the gun, I dropped myself, falling onto my knees.
Jungkook rushed over to me, pulling me into his embrace. "How do you do it?" He asked, making me chuckle, "I'm not sure, I guess dying just, isn't my thing." I told him as he helped me stand up straight. "So, Taehyung's fine too?" He questioned making my expression drop, "r-right?" His eyes had gotten slightly teary.
"Jungkook I..." I had no words, I was speechless. "Is he- he can't be, is he d-dead?" He couldn't even build the words to ask me without stuttering. "He helped me but then..." I covered my eyes, unable to continue. "So he's g-gone?" Jungkook furrowed hid eyebrows.
"Nah he's outside I'm joking," I stopped the act making him sigh in relief. "That was not funny at all," he glared jokingly before we headed out. Jungkook's face lit up as soon as he saw his brother, he ran to him immediately, firmly wrapping his arms around him. "Relax brother, anyone would think you actually thought we died," Taehyung spoke, struggling to breathe through the tight hug. As they parted Jungkook exchanged glances with both me and Tae.
"Now is anyone going to tell me how on earth you guys actually got out?"
flashback
As much as he didn't want to, Taehyung's hand slowly lifted towards my neck, pressing the knife against it. "Thank you," I muttered as what I thought to be my last words.
"URGH!" The door broke down revealing a woman, her sudden appearance surprised Taehyung, causing his hand to slip and cut my neck but not even close to deep enough. It was the secretary, the real one. I'd switched places with her to take her identity when I entered the building.
"Ma'am you shouldn't be here," I said, looking down at the bomb, watching it's timer go down to 3 minutes. "Well if I wasn't here then you'd die," she said, pulling out an axe. She must've ran down to the weapons closet as soon as she knew what was happening. She was famous for loyalty towards the country and those people who helped it.
Taehyung quickly took the axe off her, about to swing at the chains, but they were far too close to my hands. A single cm off and he'd chop them off. That's a horrible way to die. "WAIT, do a couple practice swings there," I ordered him, trying my best to flip my hair off my face. "THERE'S NO TIME, what you don't trust me?" He tilted his head in offence. "No I really don't," I said as the secretary came down to the bomb.
"I'm not skilled enough to deactivate it but I'll try my best to get it off you without setting it off," she said, tugging on the tape that attached the bomb to my chest. Taehyung was finished doing a couple practice swings, aiming for the chains with a large swing, breaking them off perfectly at the same time as the secretary succeeding in removing the bomb.
"QUICKLY, we have to get out of here," I said, grabbing both their wrists to come out. We ran to the closest exit near the library, but we had to run into one of Jaechan's dogs. He pushed a single shelf, and like a domino effect they all started falling. We'd managed to avoid all of them but the secretary got stuck underneath one of them.
"60 seconds to blow!" Taehyung pulled me, we had to get as far as possible but I couldn't leave her behind, not when she saved our lives.
"Byeol don't," Taehyung warned, watching me attempt to push up the shelves, but there were too many on top of each other, and I didn't have the strength, it wasn't humanly possible. "YOU CAN'T SAVE EVERYONE!" Taehyung yelled at my stupidity, I released a breath, watching that woman suffocate. "I can't save everyone."
I admitted a truth I never wanted to, letting myself be dragged away by Taehyung yet not losing eye contact with the woman who accepted her fate with a smile. She reminded me of me. We ran as far as we could, but the impact of the blast sent us flying, leaving us minor injuries, "we did it."
end of flashback
Taehyung said he had somewhere to be urgently, so he drove away leaving me and Jungkook alone. "Are you ok?" He tilted his head, caressing the small cut on my neck, "oh this? Yeah I'm fine, I've been through far worse to be fair," I replied. "No I mean in general, now that everything's died down I think we should prepare a funeral for your parents don't you think?" He suggested.
"I can't. I don't have the guts to. How can I hold and attend a funeral for the same people I killed with these very hands?" I questioned, "hey," he softly spoke, "it wasn't your fault." He reminded me, giving me a little peck on my forehead.
"Shit," he said, looking over my head, "what is it?" I asked, his expression threw me to a state of angst. We felt content, of course that couldn't last, not in a life like mine. "Get in the car," he ordered, not taking his eyes off of whatever was behind me. I heeded to his words, getting into the passengers seat as he took the wheel.
*BANG*
Bullets started firing at us, I immediately duck down as he drove away. "What on earth is happening now?!" I yelled in annoyance. "Well, you see Jaechan wouldn't let you ruin his plans and get away with it. He sort of kind of released the trigger words to the world, and now every organisation from around the globe wants you," he quickly explained making my brain explode. "What a fucking cunt." I rolled my eyes, "so what do we do? I don't have any weapons on me," I told him.
"Oh don't worry, I've got a plan," Jungkook reassured me, driving faster, avoiding hitting the civilians on the sidewalk. "Hey you've gotten better at driving," I complimented, "RIGHT? Like I haven't crashed in an entire week," he responded, we were having a normal conversation while bullets were tearing down our windows.
"I THOUGHT YOU'D LEARN TO GET ONLY BULLETPROOF CARS?" I screamed at him, "WELL I CRASHED ALL OF THOSE ONES!" He yelled back, now the bullets were getting dangerously close to us. "I thought you said you had a plan?" I said, "yeah well my plan was to get away from them," he replied. "Remember that one mission we had in Paris?" I spoke randomly.
"YEAHHH the one where I almost had your head blown off?" He happily replied, remembering such a time during this chaotic situation. "Yeah because you thought it'd be a great idea to disguise yourself in fucking glasses," I said, "I always thought that was your worst plan ever, but now? Gosh you've beaten your own idiot record," I sighed, constantly having to duck down or else I'd actually have my head blown off.
"WHAT? You thought that was my worst plan? The hat and the glasses were perfect," he asked, clearly offended. "THAT SHIT ONLY HIDES YOU IN THE MOVIES!" I screamed while he talked casually. "Well, I thought it was a great plan," he drove so normally, "it was a horrible plan, I'm never letting you disguise us again," I tutted.
"There's like 6 cars following us," I uttered in disbelief, counting the cars on other roads that were travelling side by side to us. "Only 6? Thank the fucking lords, you don't know how many people want to use you," Jungkook sighed as the car came to a sudden halt, flying both of us forward.
"One of the wheels just blew off didn't they," I said, "no, what no I buy the best quality wheels," he awkwardly laughed, tapping his hands on the steering wheel. "Yeah it's punctured," he confessed as we had no choice but to step out the car.
The 6 cars surrounded us, all people from different countries. "VOID!"
"VOID!"
"SEVEN!"
"BORDER!"
"NO STOP I SAY IT FIRST!" The people screamed out the words at the same time, not having the same effect as it was all jumbled. "She's ours," one side spoke, "we claimed her first," the other side replied, "you're forgetting we're still here?" Another side raised their eyebrows.
"SHUT UP GOSH SHUT UP!" I covered my ears in annoyance. "What the fuck is wrong with you people? I'm not an object, I'm not a toy you can use and then throw away when you get bored, I'm not a weapon, I'm a fucking human. I'm just... human," I sighed out tiredly.
"Well unfortunately we live in a world of war. It's every man for themselves, if we have someone like you, if we can obtain the information you have, then we'll become a threat no one can touch. So you are ours," they spoke, taking a step closer as I took one back, pulling out a grenade quickly. "It's an M67 grenade, take a step closer and I'll pull the pin and we'll all die," I warned.
"Before an agent, before a daughter, before a friend, before a lover."
"I AM MINE, before anyone elses."
I pulled the pin and they instantly ran to their cars, driving far far away at a quick speed. The grenade was slapped out my hand by an earlier silent Jungkook, he jumped on top of it and screamed at me. "RUN! RUN!" He ordered me as I stood still, containing my smile. "It's uhm, it's a fake grenade,"
I informed him, making him awkwardly get up and wipe off the sweat trickling down his forehead. "I did tell you earlier that I didn't have any weapons on me," I shrugged. "Why would you keep a fake grenade?" He asked in disbelief, slightly embarrassed of his heroic action. "I'm a con artist remember, it's my job to deceive people, in various ways," I replied, chuckling at him. "Why do you never tell me the plan?" He complained, "I assumed you'd know I wouldn't actually pull the pin on a real grenade while you were standing right next to me?" I shrugged.
"That was quite cool though," I admitted, trying to cheer him up, tiptoeing to throw my arm over his shoulder. "Oh stop," he fake blushed, "no you deserve it," I dramatically said. "I know I'm amazing aren't I?" He dropped the humble act.
"Yeah there's my cocky bitch," the corners of my lips went up ever so slightly. Although there was a void in my heart, being with him seemed to let me forget about the world. "You know, I realise this is the worst time to talk about important things but, I have something to tell you, to ask you really..." He fiddled with his fingers, "go on?" I raised my eyebrows curiously, "actually, let's save it for later," he released a stiff laugh.
I admired him as he tried to call up a garage nearby for our punctured tire. The way he'd nibble on his bottom lip while focused, the way his eyes naturally stayed so doe like, the way his hair fell slightly past his eyes because he hadn't cut it for so long. It was all so beautiful. He, was beautiful.
*BANG*
I flinched at the sudden gunshot, trying to look around to see where it'd come from before my focus changed to where that bullet had landed. Jungkook.
I rushed over to him, watching him groan on the floor. My eyes scanned his body quickly, finding the bullet close to a crucial part of his body, close but not close enough for serious damage. My mind sort of froze, the blood made me freeze. It gave me awful flashbacks of things I tore myself apart to try erase. My breath got heavier as I dropped to my knees, pulling him onto my lap. "You're ok," I ran my hands through his hair. "You'll be fine," I spoke again, head getting heavy.
"M-my pocket," Jungkook breathed out, my shaking hands reached into the pockets of his trousers. A ring.
"I k-know I'm not g-good enough for you, but, think about i-it." He faintly smiled, I furrowed my eyebrows at his words.
flashback
"I was stupid enough to date you, but I'm not stupid enough marry you, we'd never become a divorced couple because I'd never marry you,"
-
He'd passed out due to too much blood loss, I clenched onto him tightly as his blood spread to my hands. I cried heavily, nose becoming runny as I regretted my earlier spoken words.
"I do... Oh please, I'm sorry," I sobbed, screaming in agony.
"I DO I DO I DO."
