Chapter 26

Warnings: Blood, gore

     ~3rd P.O.V.~

"Are you ready?" Lani questions, the question clearly being directed to Lachlan, even though she's staring into the void.
     "I am."

Lachlan turns to the rest of his friends, mouthing I'm not with a nervous smile. Truthfully he is nervous, but he more so mouthed that in an attempt to lighten the mood. The only thing it accomplishes is making the other five more anxious. Lani nods to the guards, and the march out to the new ender portal in the middle of the island. Pulling out end crystals, they place one on each side of the portal, and then hastily retreat. Almost instantly, there's a bright flash of light, and there's an explosion on each of the obsidian pillars. The one that was knocked over restores itself, and they realize the end crystals are reforming, rays of purple light connecting to the centre pillar of the portal. Then there's an even brighter flash of light, a roar, and an explosion. The four end crystals around the portal explode, and out shoots an Enderdragon, spiralling into the sky with a roar. The guards and Ian quickly shoot down the end crystals, like they had perviously done for Ian.

    "Go."

Lachlan runs out into the open, shield in one hand and a bow in the other. He pivots, scanning the black stary sky for the hulking mass of the dragon, and then shoots an arrow. The arrow misses by a long shot, but it does succeed in grabbing the attention of the dragon. Lachlan quickly switches out his bow for a sword. The dragon roars realizing Lachlan tried to shoot it, and launches what seems to be a purple fire charge. Lachlan braces the self in front of him, and the ball of end essence explodes on its surface, splattering the toxic substance over the shield. A second purple charge comes whizzing by, and Lachlan side steps it, watching the dragon with careful eyes as it circles. Finally it lands above the portal, and starts spewing its flame all around. Lachlan pitches and enderpearl at it, and appears on its back a moment later. The dragon doesn't have time to react before Lachlan, in a blur, cuts through its wings with his diamond sword. The dragons roars in agony, and Lachlan is thrown off as it suddenly tries to take off once again, only to fall to the ground with a thud so immense it almost knocks all of us off our feet. Fluorescent purple blood covers the dragons torn wings, and it realizes in fury it can no longer fly.

With a snarl of anger, the dragon whips around, lashing out its tail and catching Lachlan by surprise, sending him flying into a nearby pillar with a crack. The other five gasp, and a few move to step out, only to be held in place by a warning glance from Lani. Lachlan grimaces and coughs up a bit of blood, just managing to duck under the purple fire charge aimed at his head. Pushing the pain of his obviously broken ribs away, Lachlan charges forward, gripping onto the dragons neck like his life depends on it-which is does. The dragon manages to flail enough to shake him off, but not before it suffers several weapons being impaled into its black scaly neck; two swords, an arrow, an axe, a spear, three daggers, and a long sword.

Lachlan picks himself up, wincing at the sharp pain in his ribs, and searches of any remaking weapons he has. Meanwhile the dragon is roaring in despair, withering around on the ground and clawing at the weapons in its neck, draining its health the more the blood seeps out. Lachlan has a bow, several arrows, a mace, club, dagger, war hammer, and a sword. He draws the sword, being the most experienced with it. His shield is nearly broken, and it only has enough strength left in it to protect against a small blow, and even then it might shatter. The dragon on the other hand pushes itself back up, muscles rippling under the coat of purple blood on its damaged body. One more hit, and the dragon will die. It's eyes are slitted and wild, flashing dangerously at it growls deep form within, purple light spilling from its mouth.

Lachlan realizes what's going to happen, and he raises the shield a good five seconds before the charge hits it. As expected, the shield breaks, and Lachlan is knocked back and skids across the endstone ground, dazed by the blow. He doesn't have time to react quick enough as the dragon follows up quickly, striking out with meter-long sharp ivory claws. They tear through Lachlan's face with a horrific ease, the only reason they aren't killing him due to the fact Lachlan managed to tilt his head ever so slightly, and because the dragon is already weak.

Lachlan shrieks in pain, blood instantly gushing from his slashed face, three long jagged running from the right side of his forehead, all the way down a little past his jaw. Not risking getting hit again, the dragon jumps into the closets pillar, doing its best to scramble up the tower. Pain floods Lachlan mind, and he grips his face, blood dripping at an alarming rate all over the ground, his armour, and his hands. He can faintly pick out the outraged and worried voices of his friends in the distance, but he can barley see with all the blood seeping into his eyes from his mauled face. Tears mix with blood, and Lachlan shakily stands, trying to desperately clear the blood from his eyes. On top the pillar, the dragon has reached the peak, and is rearing up to finish Lachlan off, charging up another fire charge that will surely kill him. It's a shame. Lani thinks to herself, watching with a blank expression at the horrible scene. Lachlan was a good fighter... I'll just have to find a replacement. The time is ticking closer and closer to Ian's, but at this point, it's pretty much over. Then finally Vikk has had enough, and he takes in a deep breath, cupping his hands to amplify his voice.

"SHOOT!" Is all he says, knowing Lachlan will get the message.

The command does reach Lachlan, although faint, and a new burning desire overcomes all his senses. Even though he's literally seeing red, he pulls out an arrow, notches it in his bow, and takes aim at the blurry figure just about to shoot him. And... The arrow flies. Lachlan doesn't have a chance to see wether it hit or not, because not a second later, he's out cold on the ground.
