Chapter 5

"Evelina!" Nina screams when she saw me after getting down from her mother's car. Her long wavy hair bouncing as she ran to me in her cute black overall with a white shirt and black sneakers.

Fun fact about my name though, it was supposed to Evelyn Angelina Denver. Named after both my maternal grandmother and paternal grandmother respectively but my paternal grandfather didn't agree to Angelina being my middle name instead of the first name, with me being his only granddaughter from all three sons and all that. My dad really wanted to have my maternal grand mother's name since my mother was an only child and lost her mother early so they compromised hence 'Evelina'.

Even with that my grandpa still complains about everyone calling me Evie and has resulted to being the only one that calls me Lina well my uncles call me Lina too but I noticed it's only when he is around.

"Details!" Nina squealed when she got close to me. We've started getting stares even.

"About what?"

"Your date with Mark of course."

"It rescheduled. Something came up."

"Let me guess it has something to do with Allen right?" She had a look disgust. "Something always comes up with him when you have a date. Seriously that guy is doing that on purpose."

She makes it sound like Xave does that on a daily basis but he doesn't, it only ever happened like once and Nina won't let it go.

"It's not on purpose and it was a family emergency. He needed me." I defended.

"Are you his therapist? I really don't like him." She whined.

"No. N, I'm his friend" I sighed. I don't believe how ridiculous she is being.

"So am I but it's just that ever since you became friends with him I only ever get to see you at school and even that he texts you like every moment he can and I know you ignore him at school most times. I'm not really big on sharing my best friend. Selfish I know but that's how I feel." She confessed.

"N," I said facing her "you are my best friend no matter how many other friends I make that is never going to change. Ever. Alright?"

She nodded and we rushed to our first class. Surprisingly Elliot was there already. It amazes me how much he has changed. Before he would never be in class most of the time and I had to take notes for him too. He was chatting with one of the guys he was on the football team with.

Time flies by fast and before I knew it was lunchtime. Max and Elliot still prefer to sit with Nina and I. Aiden too. They were already seated when we got to our table.

Immediately I pulled my chair and sat down Max gave me one of his milks. Aiden had cut up an apple for me and Elliot gave me his water, looks like I forgot to get one. They still hadn't changed. They've been doing this since we were kids, getting double of stuff to give up to me and cutting up my fruits too. It became so normal I didn't realize how it looked till I saw Nina looking at us with a pout.

"I want brothers too." She said with a sad face and I just laughed.

"Hi Nina" Max said with a smile and she smiled back. "Hope whatever problem you had on Saturday got sorted out."

Nina had a lost look on her face then whispered to me. "Was I supposed to have a problem on Saturday you didn't tell me about?"

"Evie said you had a situation on Saturday." All three of them were staring at me.

"I didn't say it was Nina. I said a friend." I defended.

"Which one? Cause we know all your friends." Elliot squinted at me.

"You don't know this one." I took a bite of my burger totally ignoring their stares. They kept staring until I was uncomfortable.

"My friend doesn't go to our school." I caved.

"Male or female?" Elliot interrogated. Seriously, Elliot sometimes goes overboard with the whole overprotective thing and he is the one I share an age with.

"Does it matter?" I said in disbelief.

"Yeah, it does. He could be a creep trying to sabotage your love life."

"Wow really? Scared someone will take over your role?" I said sarcastically. He glared at me and I glared back.

"Enough you two. Whoever this friend is I hope we get to meet this person." Max said. He really meant being open to whoever I'm friends with speech. I know it might be killing him to stop all the questions he is probably itching to ask. " I hope it is not that Kyle dude. Because no matter what I said I won't forgive the person that hurt my little sister." He warned.

"I promise it's not him. I'll introduce my friend to you later." Luckily that was the end of that topic for now. Elliot was still pouting and complaining about not getting his way and Aiden was quietly eating his lunch. Nina was quietly stealing glances at Max as he was talking to KayCee, his lab partner for his chemistry class. I really hope her little crush disappears though. Not that I'm against her and Max but my ship is her and Aiden. Niden or is it Aina? I can't believe I'm thinking of ship names. I spend too much time around Nina, not complaining though. She is just a ball of sunshine.

I hadn't run into Mark by the time school was over. I was beginning to think he missed school till I saw him on the field when I went to watch Max and Ely practice. Martin said I didn't have to come in today because the café had been reserved for the day. I couldn't leave first because Aiden was at one of his after school clubs and I really didn't want to go home alone. Xavier wanted to hang but his dad called to inform him about a "family dinner" they were having which he said and I quote is all just his dad's way of trying to control him so he doesn't tell his mum what a douche he is married to.

I saw Nina walk towards me on the bleachers. I thought she already left.

"You didn't leave yet?" I asked.

"No my mum called she said she was working on a case that was going to keep her at the firm late today so Harry will come for me. I really don't feel like staying at home by myself so I'll hang here for some time. I called Harry to tell him to come for me later" I nodded and she sat down beside me. Harry is one of her family's driver. She still doesn't have her driver's license because she is too scared of driving. She opened her bag and took out her books.

"What are you doing?"

"Homework." She answered in a tone that said it was obvious. It wasn't though. But that's Nina.
