Chapter Twenty-Nine

The court room is silent, no one saying a word as the air becomes tenser with every passing moment.

Looking at my watch, I see that we have been sitting here for twenty minutes now, fifteen minutes over the time we were supposed to start. The judge finally sighs, squeezing the bridge of his nose.

"Mr. Jeniya," the judge says, looking up at the completely neutral faced alpha. "Can you please tell me where your client is? And why he is nearly twenty minutes late?"

The alpha who represented Aaron all those weeks ago, shakes his head. "I have no idea where he is, your honor. But there is a warrant out for his arrest, concerning Mr. Katz. Coming here would certainly entail his arrest."

The judge raises an eyebrow, gaze turning over to Herri. "Is this true?"

She nods her head, shuffling around some papers before standing up to hand them over to the judge. "These are all the case notes that the sheriff faxed over to me concerning Mr. Harris' arrest. As you can see, the police have concluded he is the one responsible for the death of Dr. Janette Adrian. He is also responsible for breaking into my client's home, stealing files that are pertinent to this case. Luckily, I had copies of the papers stolen, which I have included. They are proof that Mr. Harris was responsible for Mr. Katz being put on a dangerous birth control without my client's consent."

The judge is silent while reading the papers, the shuffling the only sound in the room. Finally, he hums, letting the papers lay flat on his desk.

"Well then," he says, looking between us all. "Because of this, I have concluded that Mr. Katz will be receiving all assets received during his marriage with Mr. Harris. The two businesses will be placed solely in Mr. Katz's ownership, and Mr. Harris' claim of parental rights has been dismissed." He looks solely at me now. "I am sorry for what Mr. Harris has put you through, Mr. Katz, and good luck with your children."

He stands up then, leaving all of us to scramble up as well, before he leaves the courtroom. Aaron's lawyer walks over to us, holding out his hand for first me and then Herri to shake.

"I am sorry to hear what has happened," he says. "I wish you luck, Mr. Katz."

He walks away then, going to gather his stuff before leaving the courtroom entirely.

"We did it, Milo," Herri says to me with a smug smile. "Come by the office sometime this week, and you can sign some of the finalization forms. After that, the shops and all other assets will be completely yours, and Aaron can do nothing about it."

"Oh wow," I say, still trying to get over the shock of what happened. "I'll come by as soon as possible."

"See you then," she says, grabbing her suitcase and walking out of the courthouse, heels clicking on the tile floors.

A hand settles on my shoulder, startling me slightly. Turning, I see Ollie and Nico looking at me. Ollie pulls me close, clearly worried, while Nico lets out a small whoop of joy.

"That asshole got exactly what he deserved," Nico says, ruffling my hair. "Now, he'll be out of your hair."

"I won't stop worrying until he is behind bars, but I guess this is good enough for now." Ollie shares a smile with my brother, arm wrapped tightly around my waist.

"Knew he wouldn't show up for this," Nico says, a smug look on his face. "He was handed a double-edged sword: show up and fight his case, knowing he would get arrested, or remain hidden but lose everything." He shrugs. "One way or the other, he would lose somehow."

"Well, let's get out of here," I mumble, rubbing my stomach. It has been tight all day, most likely my body responding to the stress that I have been harboring while waiting for this case. "I need a nap."

Nico just chuckles while Ollie gives a fond roll of his eyes. "Better get you home then. No one wants to see you cranky."

"Hey!" I say, leaning against his side. "I don't get cranky."

"Sure, love," Ollie says, tone fond.

Just as we are leaving the courtroom, something pinches inside me, before a wetness starts to gather in my briefs.

Heat spreads across my face, and I pull away from Ollie before he can notice that I have apparently peed my pants.

"Milo?" he says, tone worried as I start moving as quickly as I can to the nearest bathroom. "You okay?"

"Yeah," I call over my shoulder, not pausing for a second as the wetness continues to spread. "Just have to go to the bathroom. Be right back."

He says something else, but by now, I am too far away to hear him. The courthouse is mostly empty, with only a few people milling around. Luckily, the bathroom is empty, and I am able to lock myself inside.

Once I am assured that no one will come barging in, I push my pants down, cringing at the feeling of wet briefs sliding down my legs. The toilet is quite low, something that could be disastrous for a pregnant person, but I sit down anyways.

As soon as I relax, it is like a whoosh of water leaves me. But this is not normal bathroom needs. Too much at one time, it is almost like a water balloon popped inside me and all the water was just trying to find a way out.

And that's when it hits me. My eyes widen as my breath catches. With shaky arms I push myself up from the toilet, having to use the handrail screwed into the wall.

Despite the fact that my pants are wet, I pull them up anyway. Shrugging off the light jacket I am wearing, I tie it around my waist. There's nothing I can do to hide the wet spot in the front of my pants, but this covers most of it.

Swinging open the door, I step back out into the hallway, coming to a complete stop when I see the person pushing themselves away from the wall.

"Ama?" I ask, confused as to why she would be here. Immediately, I start looking around, trying to see if Oma is here too. That is something I really don't need right now.

"She's gone," she says, seeming to read my mind. "I-I came to talk to you, Milo."

I can here Ollie in the back of my mind telling me not to trust her, but the inner child who just wants to be held by their Ama again causes me to nod my head. "Okay." I follow her over to the closest bench, making sure to leave at least two feet of space between us. "What is it?"

She doesn't say anything for a bit, seeming to take me in before finally meeting my eyes. "You look good, Milo." She gives a small smile, but it doesn't meet her eyes. "You look happy."

"I am," I say. Hands settling on my stomach.

She nods. "Good. You deserve it, after everything we put you through."

Her words cause me to still, looking over at her, heart pounding. "What do you mean."

The smile drops completely from her face, her eyes dropping to the floor. "Your Oma and I were not good parents to you, Milo. Your Oma was so set in her ways, and I just wanted to make her happy. That's an alpha's job is to make their omega happy and to protect them," she pauses, "at least that's what I was always taught. But your Oma, she was raised in such an old-fashioned home. Omegas were meant to be submissive, listen to their alphas. She just got so carried away with drilling that into you, and I let her. All we ended up doing was driving you away." She looks up at me, eyes shiny with unshed tears. "And so sorry, Milo."

My breath catches in my throat, and I have to hold back the tears that were threatening to overflow. "I- I don't know what to say."

She nods. "I understand. And if you never want to see me again, I understand that too. But, I just wanted to tell you that I am so sorry, and I love you."

She goes to stand up, but I rest my hand on top of hers, stilling her movement. "How did you know that I would be here?"

"Nico called me to let me know."

"Does Oma know that you're here?"

She shakes her head. "No. When she found out about the court case being moved up, she had a fit." Hesitantly, she rests her hand on top of mine. "We're getting a divorce, Milo."

My eyes widen. "You are?" Never in a million years did I think my parents would separate. They have been together for almost thirty-five years, and divorce between alphas and omega is so stigmatized. "Why?"

"I have let your mother walk all over me for our entire marriage, and my silence has allowed her to push both our children away. I want to be a part of your lives, even if she doesn't. And I can't side with her on the Aaron issue. I don't care about tradition. He hurt you, and I should have ignored your mother and him when they said you were lying."

"I really don't know what to say now," I say, a breathless chuckle slipping out of me. "But, would you perhaps like to have dinner with us sometime. I know a great divorce lawyer."

A small smile spreads across her face and she nods. "I'd love that."

Just then, the muscles in my lower back start to twist, causing me to wince. "Shit, that hurts."

Ama's brows furrow. "Are you okay?"

"Well, my water just broke about ten minutes ago, and now my contractions are starting, so I think I should probably get Ollie."

Ama nods, standing up from the bench and holding out a hand for me. "Good idea. Let's go find him and your brother."
