Chapter Twenty

The bed is empty when I wake up, the stark coldness of the sheets causing me to flick open my eyes. Milo isn't next to me, something that is very strange. The clock on the bedside table reads a little after six in the morning, which has me groaning. I can't imagine why Milo is up this early, especially since he doesn't have to go to work today.

But then I remember what today is, and I am already forcing myself out of bed. Today is the court date, the one that we have been waiting months for. Hari, our lawyer, had been trying her hardest to settle this case out of the courtroom, but Aaron and his lawyer weren't budging. They didn't want Milo to have anything, so we had to drag them to court.

Milo has been worked up about this ever since we got the date, something that isn't good when he is pregnant. Add in the fact that he hasn't spoken to his brother ever since they had the fight and Milo has been a nervous wreck.

The hallway is silent, the only clue of where Milo might be is the light speaking out from under the door that opens to the nursery. Letting out a long sigh, already worried about what I might find, I force myself to open the door.

Milo is sitting in the rocking chair, methodically folding the many clothes that everyone- mostly my grandama- has gotten us. The room is already almost finished. Grandama had bought almost everything for us, not listening to our protests when we told her that she didn't have to buy everything for us, and certainly not some of the most expensive things on the market. But she wouldn't listen, going ahead and buying all of it anyway and threatening to only buy all the stuff again if we tried to return it.

"Love, what are you doing in here?" I whisper, watching as Milo startles slightly, his hand flying to his stomach, a protective action that he has taken on lately. It helps that he has a bump now, something that had started to grow significantly over the past few weeks. While it is still pretty small compared to other omegas, it looks bigger on Milo's small frame. "You should be sleeping."

He gives a small shake of his head, going back to the folding once he gets over being startled. "Couldn't sleep. Too worried."

"Do you think we won't win?" I ask, not angry, just curious. "We have some serious stuff we can use against Aaron. I don't think the judge will side with him."

"I-I don't know, Ollie, and that's why I'm so scared," he whispers. "Today I find out if I am going to lose practically everything. Aaron has always gotten what he wanted, and it doesn't help that my parents are siding with him."

"We'll get through this, love. There's no way that the judge can side with him," I say, finally pushing away from the door and kneeling in front of him. Taking his hands, I wait for him to meet my eyes. "Have you talked to Nico lately?"

He gives a small shake of his head, eyes falling away from me. "No. He's tried calling, but every time I think about answering, I just get upset all over again."

"He's worried about you," I say, giving his hands a squeeze when he tries to pull away.

"You've been talking to him?" His words are tinged with disbelief, blue eyes wide.

"Yes. I know what he did hurt you, but I think you should listen to him."

"He betrayed me, Ollie! How can you be siding with him?"

Steeling my eyes, I squeeze his hands again. "Stop that. I am always on your side, and you know that. I am always here to help you do what's best for you, and that's why I am talking to him. You and I both know that Nico has a soft spot for the omegas in his life, especially when it comes to your Oma. He has never been able to say no to either of you. So, it shouldn't be that surprising that she was able to pester him enough to get information about you out of him.

"Maya and I have been talking and she told me that your Oma was being ridiculous about it, saying that her and your Ama were just going to come down to see you for themselves if he didn't just tell her what was going on with you. So, while he may have given in that time, he was just doing it to try and protect you."

Milo's mouth falls open, eyes wide and glimmering with tears that look seconds away from overflowing.

"So, I think the two of you should talk. You need as much support as you can get, Milo."

He doesn't say anything for about a minute before he finally nods his head, tears spilling over as he gives a watery, "Yeah." He sniffs, pulling one of his hands away from mine to wipe away the moisture from his face. "I'll call him."

Smiling, I push myself up, dropping a chaste kiss on the corner of his mouth, waiting for him to turn before giving him a kiss for real. His hands come up to rest on the back of my neck, pulling me closer to him, until I am pressed up against him. He lets out a surprised sound, pulling away from me as his hands drop down to his stomach.

"The boys are awake," he says, his lips turning up into a small smile.

Bending down, I press a soft kiss on either side of his stomach, wishing that I could feel their movements. Milo just started feeling their kicks a few days ago, something that I am supremely jealous of. According to everything online, we still have a few weeks before I will be able to feel them.

"Well, how about I make you some breakfast, the three of you rest here." Emma meows from her perch on the changing table, making me roll my eyes. "Sorry, the four of you."

Just as I am walking away, Milo catches my hand. "Can you hand me my phone, please? I'm going to call Nico. He should be awake since Adalia is still waking up all the time."

"Of course, love."

His phone is next to Emmie on the changing table, and after giving her a few pets and kisses, I grab Milo's phone. He pulls me down into a kiss when I hand him the phone. "Thanks."

Nodding my head, I walk out of the door, hearing a quiet, "Nico?" as I leave the room.

The rest of the morning goes by in a blur. Milo stays on the phone with his brother for an hour as I make breakfast and lay out clothes for us. By the time he finally leaves the nursery, he has a wide smile on his face, eyes slightly red-rimmed from crying.

"How'd the talk go, love?" I ask, walking over to wrap my arms around his waist.

"Really well. We talked everything out and he said that he will keep me and our parents separated. He even said he is coming to the courtroom today for support."

"That's great. I'm happy you two were able to work it out," I say, pressing a kiss on his forehead before pulling away. "We have to leave in twenty minutes, so I'll leave you to get ready and wait downstairs."

Milo nods, leaning up to give me a soft kiss before walking over to the bed. "Thanks, Ollie."

"No problem, love."

It's a good thing Milo spoke to his brother because it seems that the conversation has calmed him down some. Sure enough, when we get there, Nico is waiting for us, wrapping his brother in a tight hug. They stay like that for a while, only letting go when Herri shows up.

"Alright, let's get this show on the road," she says, leading us up the stairs of the county courthouse and into one of the only rooms in the building.

We are the first to arrive, besides the judge, who Herri goes to talk to, leaving us alone. "We'll be fine," I whisper, twining my fingers with Milo's. "Herri is excellent. Grandama wouldn't have suggested her otherwise.

Milo nods his head, pressing his side as close as possible to mine. Herri finishes her conversation with the judge, walking back over to us. It is only when Milo is standing up to join her at the table that doors open.

A pained sound comes from Milo, his eyes wide in hurt. His expression has my head whipping over to the door, trying to see who could provoke such a response from him.

"Nico, why are your parents here?" I ask, watching as the alpha and omega pair walk in, but my shock only grows when I see them sit on Aaron's side of the room, clearly showing their support for him. "And why in the hell are they supporting that asshole?"

"No fucking idea," Nico all but growls, his brows furrowed.

"Ollie..."

Milo's distressed tone has me standing up, leaning over the railing to give him a tight hug. "Ignore them. Me and Nico are here for you. You don't need them."

He nods his head, reluctantly letting go before sitting in the chair next to Herri. The back door opens again, and in walks the asshole himself, mistress at his side.

"God, I wish I could punch that smirk off his face," Nico murmurs, watching as Aaron walks across the room.

"Don't we all."
