Chapter Fourteen
"I'm pregnant, Ollie."
The words from my best friend's mouth have my eyebrows scrunching in confusion, Emmie meowing before jumping from my lap after I accidentally squeeze her too hard.
"What?" I breathe, quickly muting the television before turning my full attention back to Milo. He drops his own bag on the ground before moving onto the recliner to sit down. His eyes are wide when they meet mine, the blue getting lost in the white of his eyes. "I don't understand."
"It isn't for sure yet," he says, biting his lip. "Dr. Cole called me today and said that my test results from a month ago came back, and that she thinks they are showing the early signs of pregnancy. She isn't completely sure, though, and wants me to come back in for another test to make sure."
"But, what about what she had said earlier about being infertile?" The words slip out before I can stop them and I internally cringe.
Instead of flinching, though, Milo just shakes his head, hand coming to rest on his stomach. "I don't know how this happened, Ollie." He rolls his eyes. "Well, besides from the obvious."
"We didn't use protection during your heat."
"No, we didn't. But I didn't see a need to. I honestly didn't think there was any way for me to get pregnant during the heat. I've spent so many with Aaron and stayed baby-free. Even when I was talking to you about the possibility when I was in the hospital, I didn't even think this would happen."
"Neither did I," I mumble.
Milo looks up at me then, brows scrunched in worry. "Are you upset? I-I would understand if you didn't want to do this with me."
His words snap me out of the shock I had been in, and reaching over, I grab Milo's hand. Giving it a few gentle pulls, I wait for him to get up from his chair and slide into my lap, hesitantly resting my hand on his stomach. "There is no way that I wouldn't be a part of this, love. No matter what happens, I'm going to be by your side."
"Really?" he sniffles, laying his head on my shoulder.
Smiling, I press a soft kiss onto his hair. "Really."

Milo is practically vibrating in his seat, only stopping when I rest my hand on his knee. He looks over, giving me an apologetic smile before laying his hand over mine and returning his gaze to the door that leads to the back of the clinic.
This entire week has gone by so slowly. Usually I love Thanksgiving, a holiday that Milo and I have spent together with our families since our second year being friends. Nico and Maya had joined us at Grandama'a house, where we had a pretty large feast for just five people. It had been wonderful, nonetheless, but I have been anxious about this appointment ever since Milo told me that there is a good possibility that he is pregnant.
Pregnant.
The possibility still has me reeling. In all honesty, I have no doubt in my mind that he is in fact pregnant. The past two weeks, he has been completely exhausted. The few times I had visited him at work, he had been passed out on his couch, and Xania had told me that he does that every afternoon now. When Maya had still been in her first trimester, she had often had to rest throughout the day, but still didn't take as many naps as Milo.
My thoughts are cut short by someone calling out Milo's name. Milo jolts beside me, quickly standing up from his chair and pulling me up beside him.
"Hi Milo, my name is Ria and I am going to be your nurse today." The nurse is bubbly, more so than anyone should be this early in the morning. We had made the appointment as soon as possible, and unfortunately, that meant we had to take the 7:00 am slot. At least this means I won't have to miss any more work. "How are you feeling today?"
Milo squeezes my hand, the pressure not letting up as he follows the woman down the hallway and into a room on the right. "Fine for now. Tired but nervous."
She smiles at that, rolling over a little stand that holds some arm cuffs and a thermometer. "Those tend to be some of the more common feelings of people in this office." She quickly takes his temperature and blood pressure, jotting everything down on the chart, before standing back up. "Dr. Cole is with another patient right now, but she will be with you shortly. Can I get you some water or magazines while you wait?"
"No, thank you," I say, and Milo gives a small shake of his head as well. She gives us one last smile before walking out of the room, closing the door behind her.
"Do you- do you really think...?" Milo looks up at me his eyes wide as his leg starts to jiggle again.
He has been even more anxious about this appointment than I have. This is everything Milo has wanted for the last few years, to have a baby of this own. It is something that he gave up on when his doctor told him that he is infertile, but he so obviously isn't.
"Yeah, I really do," I say, answering his unfinished question. It is the same one he has been asking all week, questioning on whether or not he could really be pregnant or if there was some sort of mistake with the test results.
"I don't think Dr. Cole would have said anything unless she really thought you were pregnant. She has been your doctor for over a year now, so if she says she thinks you are pregnant, then I am going to believe her."
He nods his head, biting his lip. Gripping his hand even tighter, I pull it up to my lips, placing a soft kiss on the back of it. Milo smiles at that, leg finally stopping in its jigging as he relaxes some into the medical table he is sitting on.
It feels like forever but is more than likely only about ten minutes when Dr. Cole is knocking on the door and walking into the room.
"Milo, how are you feeling?" she asks, sitting on the rolling chair that all doctors seem to have.
"Nervous and tired," he says, giving her a small smile.
"That's perfectly alright," she says with a chuckle, flipping through her papers before settling on one with a bunch of gibberish that I don't understand. "Before we discuss these results, I wanted to ask if you brought those vitamins you said were taking."
"Oh yes," he says, pulling his hand away from mine in order to rummage around in his pack. "They're in here somewhere." It takes him a minute to locate them, but he finally does, pulling out the bottle and handing it over to the doctor.
"Do you mind if I take a look at them?" she asks once she takes them from him.
"No, of course not."
She sets down her clipboard, opening the bottle with ease before dumping out a few pills. They are small and blue with a capital 'M' in the middle. Letting out a small hum, she dumps the pills back in the bottle before setting it on the counter.
"Milo, I don't know where you got those, but they are definitely not vitamins."
"What do you mean? What are they?" Milo asks, grabbing my hand again.
"Those are a drug called Minuere. It's a type of suppressant, one of the strongest that can be prescribed, but it also has a lot of side effects. These can include mood swings, migraines, depression, cancer, and even permanent infertility if taken over a long period of time. That is why it is rarely prescribed, and only ever in severe cases, when someone has uncontrollable and unpredictable heats."
"I have neither of those," he tells her, shaking his head. "And I haven't had a prescription for any suppressants in years."
"Where did you get these vitamins exactly?" she asks, scrunching her brows. "These are very dangerous, and could explain those headaches and weak heats you told me about."
"My-my ex-husband gave those to me, told me they were something he took every morning to get any vitamins he may be missing in his diet." He shakes his head again, bottom lip trembling. "I can't believe he would give those to me."
"He's a doctor, right?" Dr. Cole asks, leaning back in her chair. "He knew the risks. You could press criminal charges, Milo. He knew the consequences and gave them to you anyways. And they did cause you great harm. These combined with the fertility treatments is very dangerous, and explain why your hormones levels were so out of control. They were amplifying each other. The suppressants became stronger from the hormones, making it more than likely you wouldn't get pregnant. And the hormones became low from the suppressants and would spike dangerously whenever the suppressant dosage in your system decreased. If we didn't stop these when we did, there is a good possibility you could have stroked. That's why we needed to stop you when we did."
"What do we need to do?" I ask when Milo just stays quiet, more than likely too shocked to say anything else.
"It's up to Milo, but you have some serious evidence that proves that he was putting you at significant risk without your consent. More than likely, he was just trying to prevent you from getting pregnant by giving you the strongest suppressant that is on the market."
"What effect has it had on Milo? Should we be concerned now that he has stopped taking them?"
She flips through her charts again. "Now, that is an interesting question. My theory is that the sudden stop of the suppressants is what caused the sudden onset of the heat, and was made stronger by the hormones from the fertility treatments that were still in your system. This made it nearly impossible for you to not get pregnant during that heat, especially since there seems to be nothing wrong with your system in the first place."
"How was this not caught earlier? He had blood tests done before."
Dr. Cole shakes her head. "We didn't think to test for suppressants in the system when we ran the blood tests, so we did not know to look out for them. This is why we kept increasing the hormones. They kept testing low due to the suppressants." She sets down the clipboard. "You are lucky, Milo. It seems like the suppressants were not in your system long enough to cause damage. You are more than likely pregnant, though."
"A-are you sure?" he asks, finally finding his voice.
"Like I said earlier, I would like to run another test, but I am pretty confident that you are in the early stages of pregnancy." Standing up, she walks over to the cupboard that sits above the sink. She pulls out a cup and a three-inch strip of paper. "Pee in this cup and we'll place this HCG strip inside. We'll know in three minutes."
Milo takes the cup, following Dr. Cole out of the room as she leads him to the bathroom. Those three minutes seem to last forever, waiting for Milo to return. When he does, his blue eyes are wide and his bottom lip is trembling.
"Is it positive?" I ask, standing up from the chair. "Are you pregnant?"
Milo lets out a small sob, nodding his head frantically as he collapses on my chest. My arms wrap around him, pulling him as close to me as possible.
"I'm going to refer you to one of my close friends who is an OBGYN. She'll take great care of you," Dr. Cole says, scribbling something on a piece of paper before handing it over. Milo has his face pressed against my neck, so he can't see. Taking it from Dr. Cole, I thank her while gently guiding Milo out of the office.
"Let's take you home, love."
*****
Quick side note that has nothing to do with the story.
This year, I am going to be participating in NaNoWriMo. I have three story options in mind, and would like to hear from all of you on what you would like to read.
Option One: Fantasy option, where there are different classifications of supernaturals, and we will be following the guardian of the incubi/succubi as a war begins. (Possible mpreg)
Option Two: About to men who fall in love, but one of them has a child who absolutely despises the other guy. This will be about their struggles and lots of surprises thrown their way. (mpreg)
Option Three: Matty and Rowan story! (mpreg)
Thank you to everyone who has already voted on my wall! Feel free to vote again, as I have to start planning the story soon and would like as much input as possible.
Thanks everyone!
