Aftermath: 38

"Where do we go from here?" Erik looked up as he heard footsteps, as far as change of clothes went, there wasn't actually that much on offer here. Basic shirts, vests, trousers, the usual seemed to be stashed away in rooms which were clearly designed to be slept in. Not the best looking beds were in these rooms, but this whole place just seemed to be a pitstop location. Somewhere not to be used as a permanent stay. Valeryia had cleaned up, and changed. She stood looking around the room he was in, it was the same one which they had their little chat in earlier. Much like her, Erik had finally got rid and changed out of the suit, he had placed it into a trunk and just shut it away. He had no intentions of getting it back out for any reason. He wasn't going to need it anymore.

"What do you mean?" He asked back as she finally walked into the room. She sat down at the table and eyed the medical kit he had hunted out with a suspicious expression. Erik sighed, sitting down and pulling his chair closer he patted her legs. She was doing a good job of keeping a barrier present to keep him from getting close to tend to her injuries.

Begrudgingly she pulled them up, crossing them she slightly turned so he could look over one of many cuts on her arm. "Don't play stupid." She muttered and winced, she pulled away with a frown. She honestly thought her pain threshold was quite good, that was until something damp and stinging was placed against the open cut.

Erik just raised an eyebrow at her reaction, perhaps he should've warned her that it was likely to hurt. But honestly, he thought that was common knowledge. She was sitting watching him, after all. He sat back and crossed his arms, she was just glaring at him while holding her arm close. She really did look like he had just done a person hurt to her, little did she know that the antiseptic was a good thing. Surely she had encountered it before? Honestly, Erik didn't know.

"We're just going to hang around here?" Valeryia asked while seemingly thinking it was a good idea to let him continue. Sitting in a cold room in someone's borrowed vest and trousers wasn't the best. She'd much rather be in one of those canvas like beds and sleep. It wasn't until now, after washing up and changing, that she realised how tired she actually was. She couldn't remember the last time she felt so exhausted.

"For the moment? Yes. We have nowhere else to go. If anyone knew of this place, surely they would've been here by now? Or, even drop by tomorrow? Azazel believes this is totally off the radar, and we have little option but to believe him for the time being. It is not immediately near the city, so no one should come sneaking around. After we've all recovered, we need to get Emma." Erik said as plainly as possibly. He really didn't want to have an in-depth discussion about this right now. He had more or less already said something similar to everyone else. Although, he might've been slightly blunter. They'd get over it. Everyone was going to be around each other for the foreseeable future. Might as well get a jump start on cooperation now.

Erik didn't fail to notice the way she straightened in her chair, and this time not because she was being stung. He just sent a look up at her while securing a bandage down. She scrunched her nose up before shaking her head. "Do you think she will come with us?"

Erik couldn't help but scoff, "In comparison to being held by the CIA? What do you honestly think?"

Valeryia mused, she pulled a face and rolled a hand in the air. "Kind of almost took her head off...remember?"

"And you think she will grudge against us for that, and not come with us because of it?"

"I wouldn't go with someone who nearly took my head off."

Erik just looked at her, "You're not the most trusting of people anyway. So, of course it'd take a lot to persuade you to do anything."

"I'm selective."

"Aren't you just?" Erik questioned rhetorically. She just smiled and lapsed into silence. She turned and let him get to the other cuts on her arms before sorting out another on her collarbone. He turned and rummaged through the kit then, surely there was something here which could be stuck to her skin and protect the wound?

"What then?"

He looked sidelong at her, hands paused over tape and a dressing. "Honestly? I'm not too sure."

"You seem like the type to have a plan for everything though." Valeryia smirked and crossed her arms. "Could it be, that now you've achieved what you wanted, you are lost?" Her head tilted in thought as she looked at him, waiting patiently for an answer.

"Move your strap."

"Excuse me?"

Erik frowned, "It's in the way," he explained while pulling the tape from the roll. Valeryia just looked between him and the white tape before doing as he asked.

"Avoiding answering has been noticed."

"I'm not avoiding answering, I'm just choosing not to answer."

"Not much of a difference." Valeryia said while leaning her head to the side, Erik was still leaning close and just looked at her blankly. "Ow!" She hissed when he seemed to tape and press down harder than needed. He just smirked, "Are you a sadist?" She asked, Erik looked at her with a hard look then.

"Fails to grasp what rhetorical question are, yet knows about sadism. Well aren't you a constant surprise?"

"Stop answering my questions with more questions! It's very annoying, Erik."

He smiled and shut the kit with a shrug. "Go to sleep, Val." He said instead, she looked close to dropping off to sleep. As much as he enjoyed their odd conversations, he'd much prefer her to rest up and start healing.

"You're staying up to brood?"

Erik crossed his arms, "Are you sending out an invite?" He smirked and that just grew into a grin when her eyes widened and she seemed to mumble and struggle to find a suitable answer. "Well-"

"Stop misconstruing things too." She pouted and stood up with a short sigh.

Erik held his hands up and smiled up at her. "You're actually very bossy, did you know this?" Joking with her at her expense was always amusing, mainly because she ended up taking it too literal and worked herself up. He shouldn't find such moments funny, but it was slightly endearing, in a childish sort of way. How someone like her still had a hold of moments of naivety he had no idea.

Rolling her eyes she looked over the collection of bandages, one took up most of her upper arm, while her other arm was scattered; a bandage around her forearm, another at the top of her arm, some taped down dressings here and there, and that just seemed to travel up and stop at her collarbone. "It's you."

"You're blaming me, for bringing out a bossy side to you?" Erik patted his knees and stood up, shaking his head loosely and letting out thoughtful hums now and again. "No, I believe you're mistaken."

"And I think you're being annoying. And sarcastic! For no reason...other than to be annoying."

"I annoy you?" Erik couldn't help but let out a laugh at that. "I've got that vibe a few times, you didn't need to literally verbalise it." He said while running a hand through his hair. With a sigh, he rubbed the back of his neck and looked down at her. "Your unofficial invite-"

"There was no such thing!" Valeryia groaned and looked to the ceiling. She threw her arms stiffly in the air as she commenced walking away. "I just wanted to know if you were going to go to sleep, because I imagine, much like everyone else, you're tired. As strong as you are, Erik, even you're not immune to exhaustion." She said while looking over her shoulder at him when he slowly came to walk by her side. She looked up at him as he seemed to be thinking over something. "Were you hurt?" She asked quietly, he shook his head. "Do...do you feel better?"

"It's strange," Erik said while narrowing his eyes in thought. "I spent so long trying to find him, now that it's over with...not saying I agree with you, with the lost comment. But it'll take a while to get out of the mindset of having to hunt for him. No offence to her situation, but it's probably a good thing that Emma is where she is, because it gives us all something to work together for."

"A common cause." Valeryia said quietly with a slow nod, Erik glanced at her before watching as she nudged open a door. She peeked in and then smiled up at him, he just leaned against the door frame. With a sigh she looked upwards before gesturing forwards, he smiled and got his hands waved away when he playfully ruffled her hair in passing. She just narrowed her eyes at him, he grinned and seemed to just make himself literally at home. She went to kick the door shut, only for it to be shut for her. Sending him a look, she couldn't help but just continue glare at him.

"What happened to being tired?" Erik asked, well and truly situated on the bed, arms behind his head and smiling rather smugly in her direction.

Valeryia just shook her head, honestly, she didn't really feel like little less than a few hours ago she was on a beach, in the bright warm sun, it oddly felt like a lifetime ago. It felt strange, really strange in fact to be acting so normally, despite of everything which had happened. She looked at the floor with a small frown before shuffling forwards.

"What is it?" Erik asked as she sat by his side. He sat up fully and waited for her to say something. When she remained silent a few moments later, he let out a short sigh. "Val-"

"It's just odd." Erik looked confused. "We're just joking around...and acting so normal...yet the whole days has been so far from normal. It's just odd. Really odd. Don't you feel the same?" She asked with a questioning expression, Erik looked about the sparse room before shrugging and slightly nodding his head. Valeryia sighed, putting a hand on his shoulder, she nudged him to lay back down before she huddled closer. He placed his arm around her as she leaned against his chest, her hand came to rest against his stomach and his other arm came to gently hold onto her, making sure to avoid the bandages present.

"It'll get better," he said while managing to bend his arm so he could thread his fingers into the back of her hair. "Once everything has calmed down, things won't feel so strange." Erik looked down, she opened her eyes and looked up at him through her eyelashes, she nodded slowly before her eyes slid shut again.

"Perhaps you are right." She whispered quietly while burying her face against the soft material of his top. Erik just nodded and continued to stroke a hand through her hair, it seemed to be relaxing her. He could feel it, along with the fact that sleep was slowly taking hold. Valeryia became a rather light weight against him.

"Perhaps I am," he replied quietly and managed to kiss her on the forehead. He didn't really want to think over the option of being wrong really. They'd all get together, once any petty problems were put to rest, that is.
