Aftermath: 28

When it finally came to waking up, the last thing which Lenora expected was to be looking down at a locked door. She had managed to come to enough to realise she was now in the room on her own, and that she felt quite good for sleeping, but the door was locked. That wasn't exactly what she was really expecting, even more so considering it was locked from within. She put her hands on the key, and the handle and looked over her shoulder sceptically; unless Erik suddenly had the powers of invisibility, he was definitely not present. Which just meant that as he left, he had locked the door so no one could get in, for some reason. It wasn't like Lenora had visitors, the only one was Raven really.

She clicked the lock with a small thoughtful pout, surely he wouldn't have locked the door to keep her out? That was mean. Mean, rude and totally unneeded. Looking to the ceiling though as she pulled the door open, in hindsight, that really did sound like something Erik would do. Was there an odd clash there before or after she appeared? Of course, she was basically the last person to appear on this team. Everyone had already met everyone else, which meant that already there could've been clashes. Lenora was certain she was perhaps looking too into this.

Inhaling deeply, she walked along the corridor. There was really only one way to find out, before finding Charles, that is. He could wait for his apology. Erik didn't seem to really push her to go and do it as soon as possible, so a little while longer wouldn't hurt, surely? He didn't even know one was coming his way, unless Erik told him. Lenora frowned at that, bet he has. She bet he had. There seemed to be an inability of staying silent, if it meant confusing someone, or putting them in a slightly awkward position. She was more than certain that if he was present when this apology happened, he'd get some sort of weird satisfaction out of watching both herself and Charles being awkward over it all.

She never really apologised for anything, ever. She never truly saw anything she did as wrong, so an apology was alien to her. As for Charles, though he was probably used to apologies, he was probably very unlikely to be used to an apology coming from someone who was effectively new to them.

Shrugging, she decided to eradicate thoughts of that apology to be out of her mind as she swung around Raven's door. "Hello!" She beamed at the otherwise downcast blonde. Upon hearing movement and her voice, Raven looked up from seemingly staring at nothing. Lenora drummed her fingers on the door and walked slowly into the room. She hadn't ever really seen Raven this still, or this silent. It was weird, very weird. The teenager was usually always so bubbly, and excitable, always in motion, laughing and smiling. Never had Lenora seen her so still, she was worried she was unwell. Sitting slowly down by her side, Lenora crossed her legs and leaned her elbows against her knees. "So, are you going to tell me what's wrong, or am I going to have to guess?" She had hoped she didn't have to do that, it didn't sound all too fun. "Are you feeling ill?" Raven still hadn't answered, so she decided to ask the first question which was on the forefront of her mind. Raven shook her head slowly, Lenora sighed with relief. The last thing she wanted was for her friend to be ill. Even more so considering everything seemed to be pushed into faster motion. She couldn't be ill and miss out on all of what was to come. How soul destroying would that be? To get this far...only to miss out on the last hurdle...

"Are you and Erik together?"

Lenora's eyes widened and she sat up straighter. Not what she was expecting, not at all. She looked at Raven simply. "Do...do you like him?" She asked instead, she'd get to answering Raven in a moment. Lenora wasn't an idiot, she may be socially crippled in some ways, but even she understood possible teenager infatuations; not to say she was infatuated with Erik, not at all. That wasn't to say she loved him either. He was just...him. Erik was a very hard person to describe, and what he was to her was harder still. By the way Raven's eyes widened, yet a frown appeared on her face, Lenora was inclined to say her answer could've been a maybe. She shrugged slowly at that, Erik was good looking, Lenora wasn't exactly clued in what good looking, or the supposed opposite was exactly, but Erik was definitely the first as opposed to the latter. "No, is the answer, by the way. We are two similar people, inhabiting the same space, for the same goals. That's it really, I suppose."

"That didn't sound too certain." Raven frowned, again and looked at her. "You do realise that he locked you in your room, right? To stop me from coming in, he shut the door, and locked it. Something about you needing rest, which, sure, I get. I wasn't going to come bounding in and waking you up! I was actually coming to return something to you." Raven said while standing up and walking off, perhaps stomping her feet a little more than usual. Lenora watched her go, she returned back a few moments later and held her hands out to her. "You left it downstairs. Knowing how attached you are to it, I thought you'd like it back so you could finish it." Raven said with a small smile, Lenora took the book from her hands and turned it over, flicking through to make sure her page was still marked.

"Thank you."

"So..."

"So?"

Raven smiled awkwardly, "You can't blame me for being slightly worried about you two, can you?"

"Oh...is this what this is? You're concerned?" Lenora's eyes widened, she had no idea that's what this was.

Raven rolled her eyes. "We really need to teach you how to notice certain actions, and tones of voice as meaning something. Like concern. As in: like right now," she said the last part in a worried tone. "And no, is the answer to your question. I don't like him. Or, at least not in the way you're hinting at." She said while crossing her arms and giving a certain nod.

Lenora smirked and poked her on the arm. "Is that because your attention is elsewhere?" She kept poking her with a cheeky smile on her face, Raven's eyes widened slowly and she looked to Lenora.

"You don't understand concern, yet this...these sorts of emotions?! You're so confusing!"

"Aha! I am right then! Who?" Lenora tilted her head and bounced on the bed to tuck her legs underneath herself.

"No! Val, stop it! Back off!" Raven exclaimed, losing the seriousness to her voice with each time Lenora bounced on the bed, and tugged at her arms to uncross them. All in all, right now she was being incredibly annoying.

"Process of elimination then, yes?"

"No!" Raven shot up and Lenora flopped to the side from where she was leaning close. Now losing her leaning post, she fell and just laid looking up at Raven with a pout.

"Fine!" She drawled in a whine, "I need to go find your brother anyway." She sat up and scrambled over the bed to the door. Raven just watched her go with a shake of her head, she really just did a number at messing her bed up. She was truly oblivious sometimes, yet Raven found that as an oddly endearing character trait of hers. "See you later," she waved over her shoulder and left Raven to herself. Whistling and running down the stairs she looked around the foyer, rolling her eyes slowly to the side, she took off walking down the corridor which led to the study. By another process of elimination, it was clear that Charles was going to be somewhere silent. Mainly because of all the noise Sean and Alex were making in the living room seemed like somewhere Charles wouldn't be.

She swung around the door, much like she did with Raven and smiled into the room. Sure enough, Charles sat behind the desk apparently reading. "You can come in," he looked up and smiled lightly at her. "I was expecting you."

"Erik."

"Erik," Charles confirmed her statement, he laughed as she rolled her eyes and looked rather put out by that.

"Did he have to?"

"He apparently did. Don't worry though, he did much more than just tell me of your incoming apology." Charles said while shutting the book he was reading and watching her walk into the room. She sat in one of the chairs opposite and looked at him curiously. "It doesn't matter," telling her of the joking at his expense wasn't something he wanted to broadcast about.

"I am sorry."

"I know, Val. I know." Charles smiled gently, "I find myself forgetting that the way in which you were bought up, varies so much from everyone else present. Your grasp on what could be perhaps the right thing, and the wrong thing, and even what's deemed proper for the moment may be lacking. But it's nothing to discredit you! Honestly, those are just things that you can easily pick up and learn."

"Raven thinks I need to learn when to tell the difference between tones of voices, or something. Dispositions! She thinks I need to learn when people's shift and...yeah...I don't know, haven't I got enough to learn without these things?"

Charles smiled, "You'll get there. We will all get there in the end."

Lenora nodded slowly at that, "You truly believe that, don't you?"

"Of course," Charles frowned and leaned against the desk. "If I didn't, then what would be the point of any of this?"

Lenora shrugged, "New hobby?"

He couldn't help but let out a quiet laugh at that. "This would be quite a hobby." Charles leaned back in the chair and looked about the room. His gaze settled on the window, it was mid-afternoon by now, which meant the sky was in between that bright blue of the day, and the dusky colour of the setting sun.

"Just remember, that even if I do end up doing bad things...I am doing them for good reasons." Charles looked sidelong at her as she spoke steadily. "We have conflicting opinions on how to stop people. But...for you, I shall try and stay clear of erm...you know..." Lenora said awkwardly, while whipping a hand across her neck. She'd avoid really dealing damage, if it made Charles happy and not feel like he was completely failing in trying to train her, and move her away from the lessons her father clearly set in.

"That's all I could ever ask."

Lenora smiled and patted the arms of the chair and stood up. "I was thinking, actually, you know what I said about the knives?" Charles's expression went from one of curiosity to scepticism. "If the energy is shortened, it'll just sharpen the blade, yes? That way the knives would be...I suppose, like, I don't know...I'm not good at this science sounding stuff. But, instead of having a massive bar of uncontrolled energy, the knives would be smaller, therefore shallower attacks could be made, therefore; no more missing limbs! What do you think?"

Charles sighed and ran a hand through his hair, "It would be worth a shot. But am I going to possibly regret giving something like that to you?"

"It'd be no different than Erik walking around with a gun...a gun which he clearly still has." Lenora said while rocking on her heels with a smile, Charles frowned up at her. "Oh, I saw more of that lesson than you think. I know how to fight with them, if that makes you feel better? It'll just be the case of practising like I did earlier, but with them instead. Just think about it, Charles. This way I'm not wasting a skill you've taught me." She smiled and started to leave the room.

"I'll see what Hank can do."

Lenora let out a happy sound, and before Charles even registered it; she had turned around and dashed back over to him quickly. Honestly, he hadn't seen her move so fast before. But soon, he had her arms around his neck, and he was awkwardly pulled up slightly. "Thank you, Charles! Thank you!" She promptly let him go when he let out a strangled noise. "Sorry! Sorry...I am so sorry," she put her hands on his shoulders and made certain he was okay before leaving.

"In return, perhaps you can help me out tomorrow?" She looked down at him perplexed, Charles smoothed his hair back down and stood slowly. He was sitting in a very odd position after that impromptu hug. "Hank, as yet trying to persuade him to train...it's not having much success, and I have a feeling if anyone can keep up with him, it'll be you."

Lenora frowned, "He's got super speed or something?" She crossed her arms and let Charles lead her out of the room by placing a hand on her shoulder.

He chuckled and shook his head, "No, not quite, I don't believe. A favour for a favour here then, will you help, if I manage to find you some knives to train with?"

"Of course!"

"Seriously, Val, don't make me regret this." Charles said heavily while patting her on the shoulder, everyone in their own right was a weapon, let alone with actual weapons in their hands. Yet, he was going to take her word for it; if she said she knew how to fight with such things, then fine. Both looked to the door when it opened, Erik looked between them confused, even more so when Lenora grinned and seemingly charged forwards again and commenced practically buzzing around him with what seemed to be excitement; she was happily retelling him that Charles was allowing her to train with possible knives, and how good that all was, and other stuff which was being spoken so quickly, Erik hadn't got a clue what she was saying.

"Can I at least get through the door before you assault me with...whatever this is?" Erik asked with a frown, he was after all, still only half around the door and in the building. "You can stop," he said looking to Charles, who was laughing at the scene. It was slightly funny, how Erik didn't see the humour, Charles didn't know. It was amusing, amusing as in out of everyone to go excitedly running off to, to tell all of which had happened, that person in particular was Erik; who truthfully seemed to be trying his hardest not to look either amused, or seemingly pleased she had got what she wanted, Charles was uncertain which was trying to be kept at bay more. "Oh, come on, Val!" Erik exclaimed shortly and ended up putting a hand on her shoulder and keeping her at arm's length so he could get in, and shut the door. Even at arm's length she seemed to find more things to ramble out, honestly, Charles hadn't seen her so animated, yet he frowned and double took when something she said came to interest.

"You locked her in her room, to stop Raven getting in?"

"It wasn't like that." Erik replied shortly, while Charles looked really quite unamused by this sudden snippet of information.

"She was just trying to return my book to me..." Lenora said while holding a hand up and looking between them, she shrugged Erik's hand off of her shoulder and frowned at him. "You are my friend, Erik. But so is Raven, can you not try and piss her off?" She asked in an honest tone while looking up at him, he rolled his eyes and sighed. "Thank you."

Erik frowned, "That wasn't an answer."

"Actually, sighs and such is as good as an answer as anyone is ever going to get from you." Lenora said with a small smile and a shake of her head.

Charles mused over this before nodding. "She does have a point. Sometimes that's all I get from you."

"Can you not do this?" Erik asked while pointing a finger between them, before settling on Lenora. She crossed her eyes to look at the digit before looking at him with a pout. "The next time your friend decides to just come in and wake you up, I'll let her." Changing target and pointing at Charles, Erik just frowned. "Sometimes, just sometimes, Charles, words are not needed to answer some of your questions." Erik said firmly while nudging Lenora away and taking to walking away.

"Well, I think we just got told." Charles said while Lenora walked back over to stand with him. She slowly looked up at him, and the two stood with serious, blank expressions for all a matter of a moment before laughing.
