Chapter 26
Two days have passed with no change in Hermione. She was still asleep. Out of concern for the baby, Poppy hooked Hermione up to a Muggle IV Drip to make sure she was getting enough nutrients. Severus had come in between his classes, meals, and during the nights. Her friends and many students came to visit as well, bringing her flowers and gifts.
"Poppy, why has there been no change? Why hasn't she woken up yet?" Severus questioned. "I'm not sure, Severus. I have been running diagnostics on her 3 times a day and researching what it could be in my spare time. But, unfortunately, I'm don't have an answer for you." Poppy said, only giving him a half truth. She knew exactly what it was, but she didn't know what to do to help her, or if there even was a way to help her. She didn't lie about the research, though. She has gone through book after book, but have turned up with dead ends. All she could do was make sure the baby was healthy.
That night, Minerva and Poppy met for tea. (Okay.. something stronger than tea.) "Poppy, did Hermione mention whether or not she may have done some of her own research?" Minerva asked. Poppy sat up and thought for a minute, "I don't think so, but I noticed that she had a lot of books on pregnancies and dark magic. Maybe she has some notes somewhere. We could always go through her things. I have them in the infirmary." Poppy spoke. Minerva nodded her head, "Yes, let's do that. I'll have Fifi check her room for anything else Hermione may have been studying."
"Fifi" Minerva called. A few seconds later, there was a pop and the little houself appeared next to the two women. "Yes Headmistress?" The sweet elf asks. "Will you go to Hermione's chambers and look for any books or notes she may have laying around? And check Severus's chambers, too, please. But make sure he is not there when you do, okay? He does not need to know. He should be with Hermione, but I would double check the infirmary first." Fifi nodded her head, "Yes Headmistress. Fifi will be back."
Fifi returned a few minutes with notebooks and books of information. She set them on the table and turned to Minerva, "Anything else, Headmistress?" Fifi asks. "No, Fifi. Thank you." Minerva responds with a soft smile. "Headmistress, may Fifi ask a question?" Minerva nodded, "Of course." "What's wrong with Missus Granger?" Minerva took a deep breath and looked over at Poppy. She took out the letter and handed it to Fifi. "Now, before you read this, you have to promise not to share the contents of this letter with anyone. If you wish to discuss it, you may do so with Poppy or I. Is that understood?" Fifi took the letter and nodded her head, "Yes Headmistress."
Poppy and Minerva watched as Fifi read the letter. Tears filled the little elf's eyes, Poppy produced a tissue for her. "Oh no! Poor Missus Granger." The house elf cried.
