"Don't do something stupid. Don't follow me out that door right now."

-

"For fucks sake, Billy." Harley practically shouted in annoyance as she watched the school security guards drag Calum away into the principal's office like a criminal. His brown eyes were trained on her, still worried more about her safety than about the consequences he would soon see, and he signaled his two closest friends, Niall and Andrea to help her. The two blondes sprang into action and got on their feet, helping Harley get back up. Her brother did the same, jumping forward to help her, but she swatted his hands away.

She was more than only mad at him, and behind Billy, Luke continued to smirk victoriously. If Harley didn't know for a fact that Luke wasn't a shifter, she would have highly suspected him in that moment. He had an uncanny ability to manipulate the people around him so well. Perhaps it was the fact that he was so lonely all of the time. It gave him the opportunity to practice, and use his silver tongue to make people do what he wanted. It was also useful in preventing people from leaving him like his parents constantly did.

Harley's blue eyes narrowed into thin slits as she spoke with venom seeping through her words. "What the fuck is your problem?" She brought her hands up to her brother's chest and pushed him back, trying to get past him to hurry to the principal's office. She would straighten things out and tell their principal that Calum was only defending her. He was only helping her when her brother was trying to start a fight. Surely the school had some security cameras they could look at. Billy was her brother and she loved him, but she couldn't let Calum take the blame for something he didn't do. It was unfair.

"Everyone's talking about you two!" Her brother shouted through angry words.

He just wanted to protect his sister, like any older brother would. But Harley thought he was taking it too far, and it was no doubt Luke's doing. He had probably filled his had with bad ideas about how Calum had soiled his sister's honor as some kind of game. No one knew Calum better than Luke, as they had been best friends since pre-school before they had a falling out in high school. What Luke didn't know, or didn't care to know was that Calum had genuinely changed. That he really loved Harley and would never do anything to hurt her. In the span of a year, he had changed for the better.

"I don't fucking care!" She shouted back, trying to get the words through his head. "They can say what they want. As long as I know I've done nothing wrong, I'm okay."

She finally managed to push past her brother and as she did, she saw Luke still giddy, standing behind him. She shot daggers at him through her blue eyes and when their eyes met, she made a command in a whisper. Her eyes boring into his blue ones hypnotically. "Luke," She hissed, and he immediately stopped his snickering . His face went blank, as he waited for her to finish her command so that he could follow it mindlessly. "Punch yourself in the face."

At that moment, she didn't care if everyone saw. She didn't care that people would question why he did it or how it happened. She felt a rush of satisfaction as she saw his hand ball up into a fist. The next thing anyone knew, he had punched himself and staggered back, falling against the wall. Everyone in the lunch room either broke out into fits of laughter or murmurs, confused as to what was happening. Billy turned and quickly went to help his friend recover from the hit, his blue eyes filled with curiosity and confusion as the memory came back to him. He looked at his sister. She had been there that time he got punched in the face and didn't remember who it was. She was here now that Luke had mysteriously punched himself in the face. It couldn't be some coincidence.

"Harley..." He started, but Harley ignored him and started to walk away.

On her way to the principal's office, she ran into none other than Cindy Hemmings. She was coming from the math hall. No doubt getting a scolding from her teacher for not keeping up good grades despite having a boyfriend who tutored her and who was part of the math and science club. A big smile spread onto her lips when she saw Harley. Harley almost passed her, determined to storm into the principal's office.

"Harley!" Cindy said joyfully.

"Cindy," Harley heaved a sigh, trying her best to keep her patience level high. It was easy to snap at Cindy because she was so nice and forgiving all of the time. But Harley knew that she deserved better and that it wasn't Cindy's fault that she was so mad. Trying to keep her tone as steady as possible, she said to her, "Go talk to Billy before I go back there and kill him with me own two hands. Your brother too, they really crossed the line and got Calum in big trouble."

At that, the captain of the cheer squad let out a gasp. "They did what? How? What happened?"

"Calum and I spent the night together yesterday." Harley saw the way Cindy grinned and was about to say something, and she felt her face turning red. But Cindy stopped herself from interrupting when she saw how utterly pissed her best friend was at the moment. "Billy found out, and I don't know what stupid ideas Luke filled his head with. But he tried to fight Calum just a few minutes ago. The principal came out here and took him away like he was a criminal. He's probably going to get punished for it."

Cindy nodded in understanding, explaining what she knew about Calum that Harley didn't. She, like Luke, had known him since pre-school, and they had even dated at one point of their high school careers. Harley had only met him a year prior. "She probably thinks he started it because when we were younger, Calum used to get into fights at school all the time. I remember when we were juniors and we were dating, some guy in our class was moving a table and accidentally hit me with it. I remember it knocked the air out of me and I was crying. Someone told Calum and he waited for this guy after school. He punched him in the face so hard that he knocked a bunch of his teeth out. It was insane." Harley raised her eyebrows in surprise. Her conversation with Cindy was at least serving for her to calm down, otherwise the next person losing teeth that day would be Billy Quinn. Cindy finished, "The principal warned that one more slip up like that would get him expelled."

"We have to help him." Harley pleaded.

Cindy nodded, reassuring her. "I'll talk to Billy and my brother. You just leave it to me."

"Thank you, Cindy." Harley said, and pulled her into a hug.

Cindy then headed towards where the populars always sat together. She thought the two boys would be other there already, as they had nothing more to do at the shifters' table. Harley still went to the principal's office and stopped at the front counter where the receptionist was sitting.

"I need to talk to the principal." She said, her eyes glancing to the last door in the front office that was an open space with a front counter, and divided into three more smaller offices--one for the principal, one for the school's counselor and psychologist, and one for the two vice principals. The door was currently closed, which was only done when the principal was scolding a student. She hardly ever closed her door otherwise.

The receptionist waved her off dismissively. "She's busy right now."

But she knew, everyone knew, about her and Calum. She knew that Harley was there to try to help her boyfriend. Harley rolled her eyes at her, and mentally kicked herself too. If she refused to listen to her, she could just mind control her into complying. She just didn't want to do that because she didn't feel comfortable treating people as though they were her puppets. She felt like mind controlling them took away their will, and therefore their humanity.

Harley looked into her eyes and started to work her powers on her. "I have something important to saw to Principal Meymarian. You will let me into her office."

"I will let you into her office." The receptionist repeated absently.

The woman then stood by while Harley strolled on her own to the last door which was for the principal's office. The receptionist stood behind her and then knocked on the wooden door with a glass pane in the middle. On it was the name of the principal Anneliese Meymarian. The talking inside the office stopped and the principal announced that they could come in.

She showed off a look of annoyance as she saw herself interrupted by another student and the receptionist. "This one has something to tell you." The receptionist said absently as she gestured to Harley Quinn.

Harley walked into the room and sat next to the chair where Calum was sitting. His demeanor was calm, like he had accepted his punishment, and he probably had in order to spare Billy from getting in trouble. But he wasn't doing it for Billy Quinn. He was doing it for Harley. He was her brother.

"We can talk about it with you later." The principal tried to wave Harley off. She had been wanting to cut Calum some slack, but she knew he was a boy who always got into trouble, and the school had a zero tolerance policy for fights on campus.

"It wasn't his fault." The seventeen year old insisted through pleading eyes. "My brother started it because Luke Hemmings is getting dumb ideas into his head."

The principal rolled her eyes. Another petty high school fight between boys over one girl. "No matter who started it, I saw him hit your brother and that is enough for me. Last year, when he got into a fight with Andrew Kim, we talked about his behavior and he agreed that one final strike would get him kicked out of St. Genevieve's for good." She pulled up a file from the permanent records and slid it over the desk towards Harley. It was a form signed by her, by Calum, and his parents. It stated that he was given one more chance to stay at St. Genevieve's Academy.

"So he's getting expelled?" Harley asked, her heart sinking in her chest.  "That's unfair!"

Her voice started to get louder in her outrage and Calum placed a hand over hers to help her calm down. "I did sign that warning, babe." Then she found something more in his eyes. He was willing to take the blame in order to spare Billy from punishment. The twelfth year field trip to the amusement park was coming up, as well as the prom. He didn't want to miss it, but he thought it would be even worse if her brother missed it too.

Like a judge, the principal slammed a hand down on the desk, making her verdict. "Calum Thomas Hood is hereby expelled from St. Genevieve's Academy. I will need a legal guardian to come down and sign the release papers." She informed him, remembering that his parents were no longer around to do do, and neither was his uncle Cole.

"My uncle Arthur is in the hospital. When he recovers, we will come here and sign your forms. That's the best I can offer right now, since he's my only legal guardian." Calum said, voice steady, but convinced that his uncle would recover. He added with a hint of a smart mouth, as Harley was used to seeing in him. "I don't know why I can't just sign on my own though, since I'm already eighteen."

The principal's gaze softened and she gave a nod of her head. "I still need a guardian's signature. You may stay on school grounds until classes are over for the day."

Calum responded with a shake of his head. "That's not necessary. I have a car and can get home right now." He pushed his chair back and got back on his feet. Harley grabbed onto his arm desperately, wanting to go with him, but he gave her a warning. "Don't do something stupid. Don't follow me out that door right now. I'll be back to pick you up after cheer practice. I don't want you getting in trouble over me."

"But Cal--" She started to protest.

He shut her up with one kiss on the lips. "I love you. Behave. I'll be back later."

He then pried his arm out of her hold and walked out of the office. He went past the front counter to the exit. In the doorway to the front office were people bunched up, trying to see what was happening. When they saw him, they started murmuring about him. But they went silent when he looked that way. He silently pushed past the glass door entrance to the school and went out to the parking lot where his car was stationed.

Harley wanted to follow him, but he had asked her to stay, to behave, and he promised he would be back for her later. It was only a few more hours and she would try very hard, but she would refrain from punching her brother and Luke Hemmings in the throat.
