[Note: mackenzie and seras have already met by this time] In the orphanage Mackenzie age:13

"Mackenzie did you finish the homework that was due today?" Vincent asked

"Yeah I finished it last night Why?"

"Because I didn't do it can I borrow it because I have her class next" he said

"Vincent how many times have I told you to do your homework before school starts" I said whining

"Yes, I know I'm sorry I'll make it up to you later I promise just give me the homework" he begged

I sighed "Fine"

Vincent took the papers from my hands as soon as I held it out to him

*RIIING RIIING!!*

"Thanks I'll see you after school" he said rushing to class

"You better give it back Vincent!" I shouted

"Yeah!" He shouted running inside

"Good god what am I going to do about him" I sighed

Time skip after school

After school I was back at the orphanage along with the others

I spent most of my time looking after sera's the girl I met 3years ago and drawing mostly drawing I had a spot that was in nearby tree in the courtyard of the building most of the kids would play outside but me, no I choose to draw instead I was drawing a woodpecker I saw at the school I remembered its details and decided to draw it

"Hey what are you drawing girlie?" A voice asked

I looked up and it was one of the older boys maybe 15 years old he snatched my sketch pad from me

"Hey give it back!" I yelled

"What are you gonna do cry about it or are you going to hit me?" He challenged

I walked towards him about to slap him in the face when__

*GRAB!!*

Someone grabbed my hand I looked up and it was Vincent

"Let me go Vincent!" I said struggling

"Mackenzie stop it" he said

I turned towards him and used my other hand to try and free myself from him I ended up ripping his shirt opened

"Vincent!" I screamed in aggravation

He ignored me and kept his grip on my hand

"Matthew give me the sketch pad back" Vincent said

"No way I wanna know what nasty shit she draws in this sketch pad" Matthew said

"Matthew I won't repeat myself again Give. Me. The. Sketch. Pad" Vincent said glaring at Matthew

"C'mon Vincent we're bros right?" Matthew said

*GLARE*

"F-fine t-take it but don't hurt me!" Mathew said throwing the sketch pad to the ground and running off with his goons also known as friends

Once they were gone Vincent let me go

I quickly turned around and slapped him across the face

He looked at me shocked

"You idiot why did you stop me?!" I shouted angrily

"Because a proper lady shouldn't choose to act violent towards others" he said

"And you could?!"

"I'm a boy I can take care of myself however you're a girl you're delicate and fragile if you got bruises on your skin they'd never heal" he said

"I can take care of myself Vincent!" I shouted walking away

Time skip nighttime...

I was helping seras with her math homework when she put her pencil down and sighed loudly

"What's wrong seras?" I asked

"Mackenzie are you still mad at Vincent?" she asked

"I suppose I still am why?"

"Because he was just trying to protect you, shouldn't have been so harsh on him" she said

"I know but he shouldn't have done that I can protect myself when he does that it makes me look weak in front of everybody" I said

Seras started laughing "that's why you're angry because you couldn't be tough when he took your stuff?!"

"Shut up seras you know how important being tough is to me!" I exclaimed blushing furiously

"But still it was unreasonable to have slapped him just because of that" seras said in a serious tone

"I know it was unreasonable" I mumbled

"Then apologize to him" seras suggested

"To be honest I don't know where he is right now" I said

"What time is it?" Seras asked

"It's 8:30pm why?"

"Vincent should be at the beach right now he always is at this time" seras said

"The beach? Why is he there?" I asked

Seras smiled "you're gonna have to find that out by yourself"

I pouted as I got up "fine, I'll be back soon so finish that math problem and continue the other one seras!" I exclaimed as I put my shoes on and walked out

"Good luck!" Seras shouted

I exited the orphanage through the back door that led to the patio or backyard there was a fence that led to the beach I opened the fence and closed it quietly so no one could've heard me sneak out

I was at the beach it was dark but the water reflected the moonlight from the sky which lit the beach with a brilliant white glow I looked around and saw Vincent far away lying down on the sand

I made my way towards him once I was close enough he turned his head and jumped in surprise

"Mackenzie!! What are you doing here?!" He asked surprised

"Seras told me I could find you here I wanted to apologize for slapping you earlier I shouldn't have done that" I said

"No-it's okay you had your reasons to do that" Vincent said

I laid down next to him on the sand he didn't seemed to mind

"No it's not okay Vincent you were trying to protect me and I got angry at you it's just that you've been always protecting me ever since we've met and I thought I could take care of myself but clearly I can't your my beginning back then I had nobody you were the first person I saw when I found myself underneath that broken bridge you recused me from that dark place your my hero Vincent and I'm sorry I slapped you today" I said

He smiled "hero or no hero I'll always protect you Mackenzie you were so scared and lost back its funny we've been together all this time"

"Yeah 5years together" I said smiling

"If we get adopted we have to say in touch it's not goodbye you know?" he said

"I know we'll stay in touch, anyways why are always at the beach at this time?"

Vincent sighed and rolled over to face me "it helps me unwind, it's so relaxing out here sometimes I look at the stars and wonder why something so beautiful is so far away? If I could only touch the stars and make a wish
I would wish to meet my mother and father"

"Me too" I said

"Why did they leave me here? did they not love me? Was I a mistake or just a burden to them?" His voice broke

"I heard from the headmaster that my mother died when I was born however my father is alive and he was the one that brought me to the orphanage did he hate me because his wife died because of me or could he not take care of me?" He said as tears fell from his eyes

"I don't know Vincent however you're not alone I also lost my parents I don't remember anything about them but I know I had them I'm here with you I won't leave you alone" I said holding Vincent's hand

He sat up and smiled at me

"Yeah you're right I'm not alone because I still have you and I won't let anything happen to you Mackenzie I'll protect you with my life" he said

"And I'll protect you with mine" I said

"We should get going back before they do roll call and find out we're missing" Vincent suggested standing up extending his hand towards me

"Yeah" I said taking his hand

He hugged me and I jumped in surprise

"Thanks Mackenzie"
