chapter 4
"Rebecca get your lazy butt out of bed," Andy complained and started shaking me.
"It's Saturday let me enjoy my day off," I grumbled and turned so I wouldn't be facing him.
"You had a day off yesterday," he groaned and continued to shake me.
"So?" I asked with annoyance laced in my voice.
"We need to figure out a way to control your ability," he told me and I rolled over to face him.
He looked the same as always. His long dark hair hung in his face with his blue eyes looking at me. I wiped at my eyes and threw a pillow at him.
It went right through him because at the last minute he made himself transparent. I glared at him and he just smirked at me. The cocky little jerk.
"Miss me," he teased. I sat up in bed and stretched.
"What time is it?" I asked him. I looked around my room and light poured in from my windows.
"It's after noon. You slept for a long time," he said. I nodded my head. When you're depressed what else is there to do?
"So do you have any idea at all on how I'm going to control this power?" I asked Andy. That made me realize soemthing. No spirit has come to me in awhile. Well other than Andy. But Andy is almost human to me.
"I have absolutely no idea." He sat next to me on the bed and shoved his shoulder against mine. I did it back and then we ended up in a shoving match.
"Alright that's it," he said and then started tickling me.
"Andy," I cried. I tried not to be really loud so that way my parents wouldn't think I was even more crazy.
"Stop!" I yelled. I hate being tickled.
"I don't think so Becca," he cooed and continued to tickle my sides.
"Oh my god just stop!" I squirmed trying to get away from Andy. I rolled off the bed and landed on the floor.
"Ouch," I grumbled and sat up.
"Are you okay?" Andy asked while laughing his ass off.
I got up and smacked him.
"Hey!" He yelled. I glared at him and then went to sit over in the chair by my desk.
"Come on Becca. Don't do this," he said and then got off my bed.
My eyes widened as he started walking over to me.
"No don't you dare," I told him but he just smirked.
"Andy you are not focusing on helping me," I said and tried to get him to stop tickling me.
"You're right, sorry," he said. His face changed and I could tell he wasn't happy about something.
"Andy?" I asked and he turned away from me.
"Andy you better tell me what's wrong. Please don't hide something from me," I begged him.
"You really want to know what I'm not happy about?" He asked and anger flashed through his eyes.
I nodded, but now I was unsure if I really wanted to know.
"If you find out how to control your power you won't want to see me anymore," he told me.
"Andy-" I started but he shook his head.
"Don't deny it Becca. If you had the chance you wouldn't want to talk to me anymore. You'd want that normal life."
"Andy I would never want to stop talking to you," I told him and got up. I walked over to him and hugged him. I didn't care if all of this made me tired as hell. He needed a hug.
"You would want a normal life, Rebecca. Why would you give that up to talk to a ghost who can't move on?" He asked and I could hear the sadness laced in his voice.
"You're my best friend Andy. I would never just forget about you. Even if I learn how to control my ability, I'm still going to want to talk to you."
He pulled away from our hug and I stumbled. With how much he's been touching me today it was bound to happen.
Andy caught me but then he realized what was happening. He led me quickly to my bed and laid me down.
"That's another thing. Every time I touch you, your energy drains. Why do you deny the fact that you don't want a normal life?" Andy asked me as he walked over to the chair by my desk.
"I've never had a normal life. I can't start now. I may not like being looked at like I'm crazy but I can't just suddenly live a normal life. And to be honest I don't just want to suddenly have a normal life. You've been a part of my life forever, and I don't just want you to go," I told him honestly.
"Maybe you need to live a normal life!" He yelled at me and I stared at him in shock.
I didn't answer him and just turned over on my side.
"Rebecca I'm sorry," he said but I ignored him. I knew it was going to cause me problems but I didn't care. He didn't want to talk to me, well fine.
"Becca, please talk to me. I know what it does to you when you don't talk a spirit. I'm sorry for saying that, I didn't mean it like that," Andy pleaded with me, but I didn't turn around or say anything.
I felt him standing right behind me and I felt like I needed to turn around to face him, but I fought it. He didn't want to talk to me, I know he didn't.
The only reason he talked to me was because I was the only human that could probably see him. He probably didn't consider me as a friend. I really needed to learn how to control this power.
My phone started ringing and I turned over. Andy was still there, but I acted as if I didn't see him.
I picked up my phone and answered.
"Hi dear," my grandma said through the phone.
"Meme!" I smiled.
"Someone sounds happy to hear from me." I heard her chuckle through the phone.
I glanced over at Andy and he looked really sad. Guilt washed over me.
"Hang on Meme, I gotta do something quick," I told her and she said alright. I put her on hold and turned to face Andy.
"Andy, I'm sorry. We'll talk when I get off the phone with my grandma," I told him and then went back to talking to my grandmother.
"Okay I'm back. What's up?" I asked her.
"Well I did some digging into my grandmother's old stuff. I found her old diary. It traces back to when she was ten and she wrote in it until her final years."
"What does it say?" I asked with curiousity.
"Well she talked about her ability and it wasn't unitl she met her husband that is started to get better for her. She wrote why she thought it was like that," my grandmother talked calmly.
"Why does she think it's like that?"
"In her diary she thinks it has something to do with souls. She thought that her soul was restless and that with her restless soul she was able to contact with the restless souls that had died."
I stayed silent and waited for her to continue.
"When she met her husband, she believed that he was the key to her restless soul. She would see spirits occassionaly but no where near as bad before she met him. From her thinking, she believed that her soul was searching for the part of her that needed to be complete. Everyone searches for that part, but she thought that her soul needed to find it more than others."
"So what helped her was her husband?" I asked.
"Yes. He saved her from going into a mental hospital. Oh that reminds me, I talked to your mother. I'm so sorry dear, but she is very set on her idea that you are unstable. She doesn't understand, love," she said and I groaned.
"That doesn't matter. Most mothers don't want their daughter to go away!" I cried. My mother didn't care about me.
"I won't let her. I will find some way to make sure you won't go there. Your mother always wanted that perfect life. She didn't want anything that didn't fit the 'normal' life. Everything that happened to her that wasn't 'normal' she would freak out about."
I sighed and threw my head onto my pillow.
"I'm going to search through more of her stuff, I'll talk to you if I find anything else. I love you, Rebecca," she told me.
"I love you too, Meme. I'll talk to you soon," I told her and hung up.
"So, you have an idea now?" Andy spoke and I turned my head to face him.
"Yeah. Apparently the thing that helped my great great grandmother was her husband," I told him and he nodded his head.
"How am i supposed to meet anyone? Everyone thinks I am batshit crazy," I groaned.
"Well you are crazy, but not the kind of crazy that everyone in school thinks you are," he said.
I rolled my eyes at him and moved my red hair out of my face.
"So what are you going to do?" Andy asked me.
"Hope that some guy will actually want to get to know me before he thinks I am crazy," I said.
"If I wasn't dead, I'd be dating you," he chuckled.
I glared at him and then got up.
"I'm going downstairs for a minute. I'll be right back," I told him. He nodded and then made himself comfortable on my bed.
I ran downstairs to get a drink when I heard my mother talking.
"It's so nice that you wanted to come over," her voice rang out through the kitchen.
I walked in and stopped.
"Rebecca you're finally awake," my mother said with a hint of annoyance.
I nodded and tried not to look at the people who were sitting at the table with her.
"These are our new neighbors." My mom looked at me.
I turned to look at them. I seen a woman, about my mom's age, a man and a guy about my age.
I stared at the guy. Holy mother he was good looking. I quickly turned away so that I was looking at the floor.
"I'm Linda, this is my husband Joe, and my son David." The woman said. She sounded very nice. I looked up and smiled at her.
David smiled at me and I blushed. His brown eyes stared into me and I had to look away.
"Why don't you and David go and walk around. I'm sure he doesn't like sitting here," his mother chuckled.
"I'd love to." David got up, he looked happy for an escape.
Well this should be interesting.
