Silence
(why was it so hard to choose between Hollywood Undead and Fall out Boy again? i listened to their songs so idk for how long and finally chose fall out boy -3-)
(but damn it took forever to decide)
(idea was suggested by @Cat1bhere so thanks!)
(i was actually thinking of making something similar to her idea but i wasn't sure how it was going to play out tbh)
(and i looked back on goth's and reapertale's creator's tumblr and I GOT INSPIRATION)
No One's P.O.V
Death was searching through the woods. Plants were growing at a rapid pace, and the sunlight cast its light through the leaves. Birds were singing their songs, and small insects were flying through the small breeze. The scenery wasn't something Death was used to, usually it was a dark forest or the darkness of the Underworld. It wasn't everyday death itself decides to visit a place thriving with life, but there was a reason.
Chara had somehow escaped death, and now is on the loose. So far they haven't done anything yet, but they needed to be reaped. And Death had sensed a strong aura of magic in these woods, so he decided to take a look. The one place he didn't need to visit in this mortal realm that was completely free from Death's hands.
After a long time of searching, Death found a barrier made out of strong plants and powerful magic. A barrier to avoid detection. A perfect place to hide, where there was no reason at all for Death to come.
Placing a hand on the wall of plants and magic, the wall immediately began to wilt. After a few moments, an entrance formed. With a scythe in his hand, Death stepped through.
Perhaps it was a mere mistake. Or maybe it was fate. Whatever the reason was, it was a surprise for both of them.
In front of him wasn't a child, but a tall goat women dressed in a beautiful green dress that flowed freely in the breeze. Her eyes were scarlet red, and her fur was pure white. She almost looked like an angel that ran away from home.
They stared at each other in curiosity for a few moments in silence, both waiting for the other to react first.
"...Well isn't this a deathly surprise," Death commented, lowering his scythe. This lady didn't seem like a threat. "I honestly wasn't expecting to find anyone here."
The goat woman frowned and looked at his suspiciously through narrowed eyes. Magic flared from her hands, ready to defend herself. "Who are you and why are you here?"
Death just shrugged casually. "Hey, can't Death get a brake every once in a while?"
Her confusion and curiosity immediately turned into anger as soon as the words left his mouth. Tension was high, and Death tightened his grip around his scythe.
"Its... you," She said icily. Flames danced around her, and magic flared. Her scarlet eyes glowed slightly with anger, but there was also a hint of fear.
Death just grinned, slightly amused from her reaction. "So this is where you were hiding all this time. It's not a bad place-"
Death was cut off when Life shot a large fireball directly to his face. He dodged with ease, his eye glowing with magic. He gave a dark chuckle, lifting his scythe. "Heh, you look mad."
"And you look like a mistake," Life snarled, summoning another fireball. "A thing like you shouldn't exist!"
"Eh, I been called worse." Death said with a shrug and a casual wink. He easily dodged her attacks, and didn't even bother to fight back. "Anyway, your not the one I was looking for so I'll get out of your fur."
If looks could kill, Death would of been dead by now. "Don't you ever return, you stupid excuse for a god! If you do, I will not hesitate to incinerate you."
Death was silent for a moment before giving a small tsk. "Heh, last time I checked, I don't answer to you. Besides, life is full of surprises, isn't it?"
Life was about to retort but Death already teleported away with a snap of his fingers. He arrived back to the Underworld, and Papyrus was there to greet him.
"BROTHER!" Papyrus said happily. He was always in a cheery mood, no matter what. "YOU WERE OUT FOR A WHILE... LONGER THEN USUAL IN FACT! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?"
Death shrugged, as if it was no big deal. "Nowhere special,"
"IF YOU SAY SO, BROTHER!" Papyrus said, grinning widely. "NYEHEHEH!"
Death smiled slightly and rolled his eyes are Papyrus's enthusiasm. He was the brightest thing in this damn Underworld he called home. If Papyrus wasn't here, then Death wouldn't of stayed very long.
It wasn't long until Death felt a very familiar yet cold feeling run down his back. Shivering slightly, he teleported and found the remains of a crumpled city after an earthquake. Glass was shattered everywhere, and buildings no longer stood.
And people was ready to die.
Letting out a small sigh, Death brought out his scythe and walked towards the destruction. Nobody could see him. Only the ones ready to die could. Regardless if their ready or not, they would have to be reaped.
Time to get back to work...
...
"Your here again?" Life scolded. "What part of, 'don't come back' do you not understand?"
Death shrugged. "Apparently everything."
Life growled quietly, trying to keep her anger under control. "Why can't you bother someone else?"
"Hmm... Nah," Death said, waving a hand. "Just pretend I don't exist."
Letting out a dry laugh, Life replied coldly, "I was already trying to since the beginning."
Death chuckled, although it hurt a little. "Ouch. You know how to make someone like me feel killer, huh?"
Life frowned a little at his reply, but didn't pry. Instead, she continued to weave a flower crown. Unknowingly, she started humming a small tune. It sounded a bit like a melody. Like something you would sing to a child.
Death listened silently, smiling to himself. He didn't have much of a childhood, since all of his life he was taught how to reap. But listening to Life sing, he almost wished he had one.
Once Life was finished with her flower crown, she held it up and smiled to herself. This was actually the first time Death had ever seen Life smile. And her smile was beautiful.
She should smile like that more often...
"Hey, nice singing." Death commented, glancing upwards at the sky. "Where did ya learn to sing like that?"
Life jumped slightly in surprise, but Death didn't notice. "Oh, um, thank you, I guess." Life murmured. "I used to sing that song to my children until one of them died..."
Death's lazy smile turned into a small frown. "...I'm sorry,"
Life's anger melted away into sadness. "I-It's okay, but may I ask, how are they? How is Chara doing?"
Death fell silent. Luckily she couldn't see his troubled expression. "Their resting in peace."
He knew that was a lie, but he couldn't bring himself to tell her that. And he couldn't blame Life for hating him. After all, it was supposedly his fault her child 'died.'
Life let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you, that means a lot."
If only she knew...
...
"Sans, stop slacking off and go do your job!" Gaster scolded. "This is the tenth time this week!"
Death gave a fake yawn and opened one eye to look at Gaster. "But I'm bone tired. Give me ten years or something."
Gaster growled. "I'll give you ten seconds."
"Fine," Death groaned, stretching. "I'll go."
Gaster gave a satisfied nod. Death stood straight up and waved Gaster goodbye. Gaster rolled his eyes and turned his back to leave. As soon as he turned around, Death flipped him off before teleporting away.
He arrived at the familiar area of plants and sunlight. Almost immediately, Life noticed him arrive.
"Your back," She said, rising an eyebrow. "Again."
"Yep," Death replied, laying in the soft grass and closed his eyes. "Gaster was just bugging me to do my job for once so I flipped him off."
Life laughed a little. Even though they had let off some steam in the past couple weeks, Life still felt wary of him. He was an abomination, after all. Death was just here to slack off and avoid reaping as much as possible.
And of course, Life wasn't aware of that.
"You know, I hate this as much as you do." Death said after a while. "I didn't ask for this job. I can't just hand Asgore my scythe and say, 'I quit!' Your not happy with me, I'm not exactly happy with myself either. I guess you could say, I really am just dead hopeless, huh?"
Normally, Death wouldn't talk about his problems. He thought telling other people was useless, since they can't do anything to help him. And pity was worthless as well. But for some reason he felt like he should tell Life. He felt like Life needed to understand he hated his job, but it wasn't like he can just drop his scythe and quit.
Death felt a bit better. Like some weight was lifted off his chest.
They were silent for a few minutes. Even the birds were silent. The only sound heard was the gentle rustling of the leaves brushing against each other in the soft breeze.
"I-I'm sorry," Life said quietly. "I had no idea..."
Death let out a low chuckle. "Its alright..."
"Nobody does."
...
Death could only stare at the child as they dropped his scythe at his feet as if it was nothing. They grew powerful enough and was able to steal his scythe. With it, they were able to kill mortals and cause chaos.
And no matter how hard he tried to hunt them down, it was like all of his effort was a waste.
Chara giggled. Their eyes were hidden by a shadow, and a smirk was plastered on their face. "Got bored. Killing people instantly is no fun at all. It's much more fun... to see them live long enough to become corrupted. Don't you think?"
Before Death could react, they disappeared, leaving behind a childish laugh echoing through his skull. Death stared at the spot where Chara was just standing moments ago, stunned and full of dread.
Almost instantly, he was attacked with questions. He could feel his sins weighing on his back, like placing a pile of bricks on top of him. Shaking his head frantically, he set out to search for Chara once again.
But of course, he couldn't catch them.
It was like a wild goose chase. A foolish and hopeless pursuit of something unattainable. Sometimes Death could help but question his actions. But he couldn't just stand there and do nothing.
And they say I'm slacking off...
Finally, Death gave up. What was the point? Chara would have it their way, no matter what he did. But he can't just give up... can he?
After a while of debating, he finally decided he'll continue later. Currently, he was exhausted. Sweat dripped off his skull, and his magic was drained from teleporting. Taking a deep breath, he teleported to Life's place. She always manged to make him happy and forget his problems, even for a little while.
It was like coming home and being welcomed back with open arms and bright smiles. A home he doesn't have.
Life noticed him instantly. "Sans! Welcome back!"
Death smiled. Just looking at her bright smile and gentle eyes was enough to make him smile. "Hey Tori, sorry for popping in so suddenly."
"It's no problem!" Life insisted, giving him a quick but meaningful hug. "Hard time at work?"
Death nodded and stretched. Life was good at reading body language, but he was good at lying. "Yep. Who knew mortals could be so difficult?"
Life rolled her eyes, but her smile didn't change one bit. "Well, mortals can be very stubborn."
"Just like you," Death said under his breath but Life heard him.
"Hey, I heard that!" Life laughed, giving him a gentle push. Death laughed along, rubbing his arm.
As long as Life was here with him, then everything would be okay...
...right?
...
BOOM!
All the gods felt it. It was like the world was cracking apart in chaos and melancholy. It happened so fast, and so unexpectedly. Nobody could believe it, yet it was true.
A distresses wail echoed through the heavens, as the King's tears poured onto the earth as he grieved for his former queen. The balance was tipped, the Cycle was destroyed. A great light had vanished, and the world turned blood red.
Despite the world turning dark, Death would not accept she was gone. The one person he felt love with couldn't be dead. Even when he arrived at Life's hideout, she was nowhere in sight.
Death had to fight back tears that threatened to spill. What was once green and full of life was now grey and lifeless. The flower crown she made was sitting alone on the cold, hard ground. It bright colors were drained, leaving behind wilted petals.
They had made countless memories together in this one area. They shared many stories, laughs, thoughts, and feelings.
Funny how things could change so quickly. At first, they hated each other because of the jobs they served. Then they grown to like each other, trusting each other with their secrets no matter how silly or serious. And just as quickly, he lost her.
Death fell on his knees, praying this was a sick dream. Begging that he would wake up and escape this nightmare. Endless tears flowed out of his eyes, as he tried to convince himself Life was still out there.
And he would search forever if he had to.
Anything for her.
...
Despite everything, Death continued reaping and searched for Life at the same time. A part of him questioned why he was trying. Another part of him argued they can't give up. He was determined to believe Life was out there, even while doing the job he hated.
He searched for countless hours, calling out her name. Death soon grew desperate, and spent half of the time looking. But he was always greeted by silence.
And during that time, Chara had gotten Gaster.
Of course, nobody remembers him. Even Death's memory of him was fuzzy. But all he knew was Gaster was shattered across space and time, and is now forgotten forever.
His victim laid in front of him, coughing up blood. With four broken bones and a large head injury. This one would the the last one for the day.
They weakly looked up at him, their eyes full of pain. They almost looked relieved to see Death walking up to them, knowing their pain would end soon. Silently pleading him to end their suffering, they coughed up more blood.
Without hesitation, Death swiftly pulled out his scythe and lashed out. They quickly mouthed the words, 'Thank you,' before their body went limp.
That's one good thing about being the God of Death. You get to bring others peace in a twisted way. To end their suffering and pain.
If only reapers could die.
Taking a deep breath, Death teleported back to the Underworld. As usual, Papyrus was trying to calm down the souls. They were a bit jumpier then usual ever since the incident, but Papyrus always found a way.
Not wanting to bother him, Death teleported away. Unknowingly, he ended up at Life's sanctuary. Death listened to the steady drizzle of the rain. Memories flooded his mind, but he simply ignored them. Only looking back to the past would bring more pain and useless tears.
If he was here, then he might as well continue his search for her. Rubbing his forehead, he teleported away.
After a while of meaningless searching, he was about to give up for the day and do it all over again tomorrow when suddenly he sensed a glimpse of anomaly in the circle of life. It was like a dying soul full of life. Death felt hope, something he haven't felt in a long time. Immediately, he went to look for this strange being, convinced they had something to do with Life.
It didn't take very long, but it took a lot of magic out of him. Death found himself in a dark room, with a small patch of grass in the center. Above, there were two words. 'CONTINUE' and 'RESET.'
And sitting in the center of the grass, he found him.
A lonely skeleton who somehow manged to escape death after a horrible experience of genocide. They were wearing their brother's remains and had a battle scar that would last forever.
They didn't notice him at first. They were staring at the blank ceiling, lost in their own thoughts. Death noticed how they were internally bleeding. He was surprised they could wear a normal face without having it being filled with pain.
Death watched the skeleton for a while, slightly curious. He was aware of other alternate universes, but he never thought much of them. But this one seemed interesting. He knew they were suppose to be dead, but for some reason he can't convince himself to kill this one.
Usually, he was good at reading expressions and judging how your personality was, Death could get an idea of how your daily life went. But he couldn't read this one's expression, and he found that exciting. Finally, something new.
Death stopped when the strange skeleton started looking around with a wary yet curious expression. He never got a good look at his face, and he noticed a glitch covering their left eyes and blood dripping from their mouth. And they look exactly like him.
Heh, he's cute...
Who knew your alternate self could be so attractive? Death barely knows them, yet he's already thinking thoughts. That's dangerous.
Their eyes locked with each other, staring at each other warily and curiously. Silence followed as they waited for the other to react first.
This felt way too familiar.
"...Well, isn't this a deathly surprise." Death said smiling, but the words felt bitter in his mouth. "Whats wrong? You look like you've seen death."
They gave him an odd look. "Is there some joke I'm not getting? I won't be judgemental."
Death stared at them for a few moments before he burst out laughing. He haven't laugh in a long time and it felt great. "Well, these jokes are killer. They're going to be the death of me."
"Well, that was a dead giveaway." They replied with a snort. "But seriously, who are you? I'm just dying to know."
After they calmed down a bit, Death replied, "Um, nobody important. You?"
"No one special," They responded. "But you can just call me Geno,"
Death nodded. "Death,"
Geno chuckled. "That explains all the death puns, huh?"
"Yep," Death replied with a smile. "I'm surprised you don't have a bone to pick with me. Your not concerned that I sorta just popped up?"
"Well, it wasn't hard to figure out your a reaper," Geno replied casually as if this was an everyday thing. "Besides, I know I'm suppose to be dead. But I'm not going to get killed that easily."
Death smiled. He admired Geno's determination. Just by looking at his scarf, he could tell he lost his brother yet he's still going. Death lost Life, and he felt empty.
"Well, I wasn't planning on killing you anyways." Death replied, as they sat down. Unlike any other dying mortal, this one was different. Even though Geno was in pain, he was still going.
Geno raised an non-existent eyebrow. "And why's that? Isn't that your job?"
"Eh, screw my fucking job," Death said, waving a hand. "Your cute and you deserve to live."
"C-Cute?" Geno spluttered, suddenly loosing his cool. "I'm not cute! I mean, have you seen me? Have you seen all of this blood?"
Death chuckled at his reaction and glanced at his wound. "Sure your bleeding and everything, but my point still stands."
Geno flailed his arms in the air, unable to form words. His face was bright blue from embarrassment. Death just found this adorable.
"Well anyway, care to explain how you ended up here?" Death asked, gesturing to the area around them. "I mean, I never seen this place before."
Geno shrugged. "It's a long story."
"Well, I got time." Death said, laying on the ground. "If you share yours, I'll share mine."
Geno sighed and gave a small smile. "Sure, why not?"
...
"And so now I'm stuck in the Save Screen I now call home," Geno finished with a sigh. He glanced at Death's shocked expression. "What?"
Death blinked. "And I thought my story was bad,"
Geno laughed. "Really? When I heard yours, I thought the exact same thing."
"Yeah right. My home is full of dread now Life's gone." Death paused, and said quietly, "Honestly, I don't feel at home there anymore."
Geno looked at him in sympathy. Smiling a little, Geno pulled Death into a hug. At first, Death wasn't sure how to react but then he found himself hugging back. Even though he just met Geno, he felt safe with him.
"Heh, I can relate." Geno murmured. "We have a lot of similarities, huh?"
Death nodded and chuckled quietly. "We're already acting like best friends, and we literally just met. Crazy, huh?"
Geno hummed in agreement. "Yeah..."
...
Ever since Death met Geno, things have been better. At least he wasn't constantly feeling down. Geno seemed happier as well, despite Death's annoying nature. What was once a lonely skeleton was no longer alone.
Death would still go look for Life time to time, but not as much as he used to. Chara was near impossible to track down, so what was the point? At this point, looking for Life or Chara was a wild goose chase.
When he's not reaping or searching, he was with Geno. Even though the Save Screen was empty, and certainly wasn't full of life, Geno made it all better. It almost felt like Death spent most of his time there instead of his actual home.
Almost all of the gods noticed his absents, but since they couldn't teleport across universes, finding Geno was impossible. Every time they asked him about it, Death would wave it off and claim he was 'working.'
Of course, he still did his job, even if he wasn't happy about it. But Death wouldn't spend no longer then a few hours before returning back to Geno to keep him company.
Geno didn't mind at all. In fact, every time Death was around, Geno felt a warm feeling in his chest. He couldn't describe it, and he didn't dare to name it. Honestly, this feeling terrified Geno. Letting Death in and loosing him would destroy what was left of him. And little did Geno know, Death felt the same way.
They known each other for so long, they couldn't count how many weeks it was. Or it could be months and they would have no idea.
"Hey Geno~" Death said after a while of comfortable silence. Geno glanced at Death, silently questioning him. "Have you ever thought about what it was like to be gay?"
Geno held back a snort. "Yeah, I totally have. Why?"
Death chuckled. "I was thinking about it last night, and then I laughed so loud I'm pretty sure somebody heard me."
Geno laughed. "Is that what you think about in your spare time? What it's like to be gay?"
"Hey, it just came to me." Death protested playfully. "Sometimes I think about you at night. Apparently your a popular topic my brain likes to think about."
Geno blushed a little but laughed anyway, pushing away any thoughts that thought differently. "Oh really? Well, I hope they're good thoughts."
Death smirked. "Oh yes, very good thoughts. Sometimes my brain wonders what you look like without your shirt on-"
"What the hell, Death!?" Geno yelped, covering his mouth before he could say anymore. Geno was blushing 50 shades of blue... literally. "What is wrong with you?"
"Everything," Death replied, taking Geno's hand off his mouth. He glanced at Geno's blushing face in amusement. "What? I thought it was sexy."
Geno lightly smacked on him on the head. "S-Shut up! You are not going to see me without a shirt."
"Calm down, I'm only joking." Death laughed. Then there was a short pause. "But it really did happen."
Geno stared at him dumbfounded. "...Really?"
Death nodded guilty then laid on the floor. "I regret nothing."
Geno sighed and laid next to him. Death having a dirty mind was no surprise. Then for the next few hours, they talked about random topics that come to mind. One moment they could be talking about something, and then the next moment it's a completely different topic.
After a while, Geno started to grow sleepy. He didn't sleep very well because of the nightmares. He glanced at Death, who was still talking. Geno tried to stay awake, but he felt like someone was forcing his eyes closed.
The moment Death stopped talking, was the moment Geno fell asleep.
Death was about to talk again when he felt something wrap around his body. When he looked, all he saw was an adorable sleeping skeleton hugging him tightly. Unsure of what to do, he mentally screamed.
He didn't want to wake Geno up, so Death just laid there. He felt his face warm up when Geno snuggled closer, seeking warmth. With a small sigh, Death wrapped his arms around Geno and pulled him closer. If Geno was sleepy, then he might as well keep him warm and safe from the nightmares.
Geno seemed to enjoy the extra warmth, even in his sleep. The rhythm of his breathing was soft, and his chest rose up and down gently.
Death smiled to himself and watched Geno sleep for a while. He looked so peaceful and quiet. As if he didn't have a care in the world. As if he was with his friends and family back home.
Soon, Death started to feel sleepy himself. He didn't even bother trying to stay awake. Besides, it would be a while until Geno wakes up. Placing a small kiss on Geno's head, he fell asleep.
...
"Where is that damn reaper?" Undyne hissed, slamming her fist on the table. "He's been gone for almost three days when he's suppose to be doing his job and we can't find him anywhere!"
"UNDYNE, PLEASE CALM DOWN!" Papyrus said nervously. "I'M SURE SANS HAS A GOOD REASON FOR HIS ABSENTS,"
Undyne glared angrily at the slightly cracked table. "Hell yeah it better be a good reason! I swear, I will fucking kill him when he comes back."
Asgore sighed. It has been a while since Life's death, yet he was still grieving for his former wife. "There is no need for that, Undyne. I will talk to him when he comes back."
After a few moments, Undyne nodded and finally sat down although she did not look happy. Alphys placed a hand over hers in attempt to calm her down. Undyne just smiled at the gesture and touched Alphys' hand lightly.
Muffet crossed her arms. "...If he comes back, that is."
Papyrus looked uneasy. "O-OF COURSE HE'LL COME BACK! IT'S ONLY BEEN THREE DAYS, I'M SURE HE'S FINE!"
"I don't think the word 'fine' best describes him, Papyrus." Undyne muttered crossly. "Ever since Life died, he's never been the same."
Asgore bit his lip. "Papyrus, did Sans and Life have some form of relationship that you know of?"
"W-WELL, I WAS NEVER SURE!" Papyrus said after a few moments. "I HAD A FEELING HE WAS SPENDING TIME WITH SOMEONE, BUT I DIDN'T THINK IT WAS LIFE!"
Gerson stayed silent the entire time as the gods talked, as if he was in deep thought. He only glanced up occasionally before looking back down.
After a while of silence, Gerson finally spoke. "I remember someone once telling me about 'alternate universes,' although I can not remember who it was." He looked up with an unreadable expression. "Perhaps he's in one of those?"
Muffet looked at Gerson, blinking all eight of her eyes at once. "Enlighten me."
"An 'alternate universe' is a different version of our world." Gerson explained lightly. "We could have different roles, looks, personalities, fears, but they are still us. Only different."
Alphys fidgeted nervously. "T-That would explain w-why we couldn't f-find him. H-He's the only one who c-could teleport out of all o-of us after a-all."
Asgore hummed thoughtfully. "He would surely be questioned for his strange behavior. Thank you, Gerson."
Gerson dipped his head in acknowledgement. "Anytime, your highness."
...
Geno wasn't sure how long he was asleep for, but when he woke up and found out he was in Death's arms he mentally died.
Death had a surprisingly strong grip around him, despite being asleep. Geno blushed madly, and didn't move an inch. Although he would never admit it, he liked being in Death's arms. He felt safe, and for once in a long time, he didn't have nightmares.
Geno leaned into his chest, sighing happily. This might be the one chance he'll have to cuddle with his crush. The occasional hugs don't count.
It wasn't long before Death stirred. Geno was expecting him to freak out from the fact that they were sleeping together, but he was surprisingly chill about it.
"I know your awake, Geno." Death said, chuckling. Geno sighed, and glanced up at him. He couldn't help but get lost in Death's empty eye sockets, and Death couldn't help but stared back.
They stared at each other for a few moments, secretly admiring each other before they both turned away. Geno tried to squirm out of Death's grip, but for some reason he didn't let go.
"Um, Death?" Geno asked reluctantly. "Could you, um, let go of me?"
"Aww, but I like having you there~" Death whined, pulling Geno even closer. "It's comfortable~"
Geno blushed and he stopped squirming. He didn't want Death to let go either. "But don't you have to go to work or something?"
Death whined again. "But I don't wanna go to work, I wanna stay here with you~"
Geno laughed his at childish behavior. "You skipped work for at least for a few days. Undyne is going to kill you."
"...Fine," Death groaned, sitting up. "I'll be back later, okay?"
Geno was a bit sad to see him go but didn't let it show. Death gave Geno a quick goodbye before teleporting away.
Luckily, not that many people 'fallen down' during the past few days. Most of them were unconscious in the hospital, but a few of them had recently fallen.
Death finished earlier then expected. Maybe it was the thought of coming back to Geno made him work twice as quick. Or it could just be the lack of people dying.
Whatever the reason was, he certainly wasn't complaining. Besides, he wanted to tell Geno something, but he wasn't prepared. At all.
After Death was finished reaping, he teleported to the woods. Maybe a small walk to clear his head would do him some good. Crows cawed in the distance, and dead leaves crunched as he walked past. At a terrible state like this, it was hard to believe these woods were once green and thriving with life.
It felt nice to go on a walk alone and sort out your thoughts. Even if these woods seem creepy, it's quiet peaceful once you get used to it. Although Death still preferred it when it was green instead of gray.
Ten minutes didn't even pass until he heard someone screaming his name. Death recognized Undyne's voice instantly and sighed.
"What do you want, Undyne?" Death asked, trying to sound casual. He just wanted to be left alone with his thoughts.
Undyne glared at him angrily. "What do I want? What is up with you? You can't just go and run off like that! Papyrus was really worried about you, and you suddenly disappeared for a couple of days!"
Death met her gaze calmly. "I was working."
"Don't lie to me!" Undyne hissed with blazing eyes. "You can't be working and disappear at the same time!"
"Get to the point, Undyne." Death sighed, crossing his arms. "I'm not in the mood."
Undyne took a deep breath. "Asgore wants to speak with you. It's important."
Normally, Death would skip any meetings with any of the gods. He felt as if they were a waste of time. But if it's important, he might as well go.
"...Fine," Death replied after a few moments. "I'll go."
Undyne nodded approvingly and Death teleported away. He arrived at the king's castle and stepped through the entrance. It has been a long time since Death last step foot in the castle, or even seen the king himself.
Right at the entrance, he found Gerson leaning against the wall. The God of Wisdom was staring off into space.
"You came," Gerson said without looking at him. "I honestly didn't think you would."
Death shrugged. "Where's Asgore?"
"Follow me," Gerson said, gesturing him to follow. Death followed him to a small room and found Asgore sitting at a desk, staring at his hands.
Gerson left without another word. Death watched him go, stalling for a few moments before stepping in the room. Asgore didn't notice him until Death cleared his throat quietly.
"Uh, you wanted to see me?" Death asked with his arms crossed.
Asgore looked up and almost looked surprised to see Death standing in front of him. "Oh! Yes, I did. Please, take a seat."
Death reluctantly took the seat in front of Asgore's desk. He felt uncomfortable under the king's gaze knowing he was good friends with his former wife.
"So, why did you want to see me?" Death asked after a few moments of awkward silence.
Asgore folded his hands. "I just wanted to ask some questions."
"Shoot," Death whispered under his breath. "Well, what do you want to know?"
"Well, first of all, where were you the past few days?" Asgore asked calmly. "Papyrus was really worried when he found out you disappeared."
Death sighed. "Yeah, Undyne told me."
Asgore raised an eyebrow. "...Well?"
"I'm just stressed and needed a brake from everything," Death responded, waving a hand like it's nothing. It was partly true, but also a lie. "Don't worry about it."
Asgore paused but gave a small nod. "May I ask, are you okay? You never been the same since Life... disappeared. You know, we're here to help."
I'll be fine when I get out of this damn place and see Geno,
There was a pause. "Like I said, just stressed."
Asgore sighed. He knew Death wouldn't talk about his problems. He never does.
"Do you happened to know what happened to Life...?" Asgore asked quietly after a few moments.
Death stiffened. He wasn't ready to tell him that his supposedly dead child has something to do with it. Although he refused to believe that Life was gone, he had given up looking for her and spent most of his time with Geno.
"I-I don't," Death replied, biting his lip. He had gotten over Life's disappearance, but talking about her brought back memories. "I don't know what happened to her."
"Were you and Life good friends?" Asgore asked gently, sensing his discomfort. "It's okay, I won't be mad."
Death thought for a moment, debating whether he should tell him or not. After a few moments, he replied, "...We were friends but we weren't close,"
Asgore sighed. "I see... You may go now."
Letting out a sigh, Death got up and left quickly. He could feel Asgore's eyes following him as he existed the room. The tension in the air soon faded away into nothing.
After a few minutes, Death found himself in Judgement Hall. Pale light cast on the golden flooring and the pillars loomed above. His foot steps echoed throughout the empty room. Shaking his head to clear his the unpleasant thoughts, he leaned against a pillar and looked up at the ceiling.
I should probably go back to Geno, Death thought, frowning. But what about Papyrus?
Death felt slightly guilty for avoiding all everyone, even Papyrus. He honestly didn't think about what Papyrus would think, or what anyone would think for that matter. He was just isolating himself from everyone.
A few minutes past, and Death finally made up his mind. Snapping his fingers, he teleported to the Underworld. It didn't take very long to find Papyrus sitting alone.
"Pap?" Death called quietly.
Papyrus looked up and his face instantly lit up when he saw him. Before he knew it, Death was trapped in a bear hug.
"SANS! I KNEW YOU WERE OKAY!" Papyrus said happily. "EVERYONE WAS THINKING YOU WERE IN A DIFFERENCE UNIVERSE, AND COULD OF GOTTEN KILLED WITHOUT US KNOWING. BUT I KNEW THAT WASN'T TRUE AND I WAS RIGHT!"
Death chuckled and hugged back. "I'm not exactly easy to kill, Papyrus."
Papyrus tighten his grip. At this point Death couldn't breathe correctly. "I KNOW BUT NEVER DO THAT AGAIN! I WAS REALLY WORRIED..."
"I'm sorry," Death apologized, and he really meant it. "I was just stressed and needed a brake. Don't worry about it, okay?"
"IF YOU NEED ANYTHING, I'M HERE FOR YOU, OKAY?" Papyrus said quietly, despite his loud voice. "YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THIS ALONE."
Death thought for a moment. "Hey Paps, how do you tell someone you like them?"
...
Geno stared at the blank ceiling, waiting for Death's return. Every time Death left for work, Geno would feel alone all over again. Sometimes he feared Death would never come back and leave him to suffer alone, but he always came back.
The more he thought about it, the more Geno felt like he was going to be alone forever. Eventually, Death would find someone else more appealing. Someone that's female, and not an alternate version of himself.
Geno hated being stuck in the friend zone, but it wasn't like he could just straight up confess. He might scare Death away, and loose the closest thing he had to a relationship with his crush.
With a sigh, Geno rolled onto the stomach and groaned. He was sick and tired of keeping these feelings to himself, but he couldn't take the risk.
He didn't even notice Death arrive. He was to busy moping about how stupid feelings are.
Death chuckled, and poked Geno's head. Geno looked up and his soul leaped with joy when he found Death staring at him.
"What are you doing on the ground like that?" Death asked, amused. "You look ridiculous."
Geno snorted. Then he noticed Death was hiding something behind his back and curiosity overtook him. "What's behind your back?"
Death blushed a little and pulled out a black rose. Geno blushed madly when Death handed him the rose. "I-I was just thinking... since there isn't much here at the Save Screen, I just thought you would like something that isn't grass."
Geno took and the flower and stared at it for a few moments. Although he was a bit disappointed that was the only reason, he was happy, nonetheless. "T-Thank you, it's beautiful."
Death sighed in relief and sat next to him. A comfortable silence stretched on as they enjoyed each others company. After a few minutes, Death spoke.
"I was thinking..."
"That's dangerous," Geno commented.
Death laughed and lightly pushed him. "Seriously. I was thinking, do you wanna go somewhere?"
Geno frowned. "Go where?"
"Somewhere that's not this damn Save Screen," Death replied. "I mean, you must want to see something other then the same old room, right?"
Geno thought for a moment. "I-I would love to, but-"
"Great!" Death said before Geno could finish. He grabbed Geno's hand and they teleported somewhere. When Geno's vision cleared, he found himself in the middle of a forest.
"D-Death, where are we?" Geno asked, looking around. He hasn't seen a forest in a long time. And he didn't think it would on the surface.
Death smiled at him in the dark. "In the middle of a forest that the other gods have no idea exists."
Geno gave him a confused look. "Uh, why are we here?"
"I want to show you something, come on!" Death said, pulling Geno along. Geno blushed when he realized they were still holding hands but didn't say anything.
Geno let himself get dragged along. Of course, he didn't mind. Holding his crush's hand and being on the surface was an offer nobody could reject.
Finally, they stopped at a small clearing. The cool breeze brushed gently against the leaves, and moonlight danced on the ground.
Death smiled at him when Geno gave him a confused look. He simply pointed up at the sky and Geno let out a gasp.
Above, was a blanket of stars that covered the night sky. The sky was clear of clouds, and the moon shined brightly. The trees looked like dark shadows, reaching towards the sky. Everything about it was perfect.
"D-Do you like it?" Death asked, a little nervous. "I mean, we could go somewhere else if you want-"
"Do I like it?" Geno echoed, giving Death a look. "Are you kidding me? I fucking love it!"
Death yelped in surprise when Geno tackled him into a hug. Blushing a little, Death returned the hug. Neither of them wanted to let go.
"Well, I'm glad you like it." Death chuckled. "Because I spent I don't even know how many hours looking for this place just for you."
Geno looked at him in surprise. Why would Death spend so much time looking for this place for him? "Really? Why?"
Death shrugged and pulled Geno closer. "Because you deserve it,"
Geno blushed and accepted the gesture. "Sometimes I don't get you,"
"I wouldn't expect any less," Death murmured, resting his chin on his head. Geno blushed harder, and his soul pounded so loudly he thought Death could hear.
Why is he acting like this? Geno wondered. Does he like me to?
Asking would just be plain awkward. In addition, Death could always just be pretending to play with his emotions. But why would he do that? Just for fun?
After a few moments, Death pulled away slightly. "Heh, sorry. That must of been awkward for you."
Geno shook his head, still blushing. "No, it's completely fine. I-I actually don't mind at all."
Death gave him a surprised look. "R-Really? Your okay with that?"
Geno bit his lip and nodded slightly.
"Well, how would you react if I told you, 'I love you?'" Death asked, blushing and avoided his gaze. Geno opened his mouth to reply but nothing came out.
"Heh, I was expecting that.." Death murmured, retracting his hands. "Sorry, I'm a horrible friend."
Geno grabbed Death's arm to prevent him from leaving. "How would you react if I said, 'I love you too?'"
They stared at each other for a few moments before Death smirked. "I would do this~"
Before Geno could ask what he meant by that, Death pulled him into a deep kiss. Geno was in too much shock to do anything.
When Death pulled away, Geno couldn't help but let out a quiet whine of dismay. The kiss was indescribable, but it was amazing.
Death smirked. "Heh, wanted me to go on?"
Geno blushed furiously that he made it obvious that he did. He just looked away to hide his blushing face but Death already saw and pulled him into another kiss. This time, Geno kissed back.
Little did they know, a certain someone was watching from the shadows.
...
Months passed, and their relationship only grew stronger. Every time Death left for work, Geno would wait patiently for his return. And when he comes back, they would either go somewhere, cuddle, or just hang out.
Currently, only Papyrus knew about them and promised he would tell no one. So far, he has kept his promise. Although it was against the rules for a god to fall in love with a mortal, Papyrus understood how happy Death was with Geno. And as long as his brother was happy, he was happy.
Of course, the other gods were suspicious for his absents, but never asked since he always did he job. Chara was still active, but Death somehow manged to weaken them. Now they were hiding off somewhere out of Death's reach.
So until then, he would just have to wait.
"Hey babe~" Death greeted, hugging Geno from behind. "I'm back~"
Geno smiled and leaned against him, enjoying his warmth. "Hey Death- wait, BABE?"
Death chuckled at his reaction. "What? We've been dating for months now. Do you not like it?"
"N-No, it's not that." Geno murmured, blushing so hard he looked like a blueberry. "I-Its just... I don't know!"
"Your just adorable~" Death cooed, nuzzling his neck. "Your too precious for this world~"
Geno sank into his scarf, trying to hide his embarrassment. "N-No I'm not!
"You keep telling yourself that, but it's true." Death murmured. "Without you, I would still be empty. Your like the light I lost. My sunshine~"
Geno smiled and touched Death's face gently with his hand. It would be the same for Geno. Without Death, he would still be broken. Death leaned into his touch, sighing.
"Your my sunshine as well," Geno whispered. "My only sunshine..."
One smile cannot change the world, but your smile changes mine.
...
Geno paced back and forth, sweating nervously. Death mostly comes around this time of day, and he would arrive any minute now. Geno knew he had to tell Death, but how was he suppose to tell him that he's pregnant?
How can a male skeleton become pregnant anyway? They only did 'that' twice just to try it, and because they wanted to take their relationship a bit further. But apparently that did it.
Ever since, Geno noticed these random chest pains and a soul planted in his chest. It wasn't hard to figure it out from there.
Geno had wasn't sure on how to tell him. Should he just straight up tell him? Or try hinting it? Death isn't aware of his chest pains, so he had no idea. Although they don't hurt that must, it left a sore feeling at his chest. Besides, Geno was good at hiding his pain, despite his wound.
Minutes felt like hours, and Death finally arrived. Geno gulped and began to mentally panic.
"Hey babe~" Death cooed, kissing him. Geno blushed, even though Death called him that countless times. "What's up?"
Geno thought quickly. "Uh- more like, what's down in eight months?"
Oh my god that was really stupid what the hell did I just say?
It took a few moments for Death to understand. His eyes widened and he glanced at Geno's chest. "Y-Your pregnant?"
Geno gulped and nodded. He shut his eyes closed, waiting for Death to yell at him. When nothing happened, he felt horrible.
Suddenly, Geno was trapped into a hug. He gasped in surprise as Death started to spin him happily.
"I'm going to be a father!" Death laughed, pulling Geno back into a hug. "I always wanted kids but then I thought you wouldn't agree..."
He paused and frown for a second before a grin leaped onto his face. "Welp, that doesn't matter now. We're going to have a child!"
Geno yelped when Death started pecking kisses all over his face. After a bit of squiring, Death finally let go but his eyes were still shining.
"Someone's excited," Geno commented with a chuckle. There were no words to describe how relieved he felt. "We have a few months so calm down."
"I am calm!" Death retorted. He didn't look calm at all. Death paused and his eyes widened. "Shit I just hugged the life out of you! Are you okay? Is the baby okay? Do you need anything?"
Geno pushed Death away as he started fussing over him. "Me and the baby are fine, Death. The baby soul barely started growing."
Death didn't look convinced. He pulled Geno into another hug, only gentler. "I'm never leaving your side again."
"...Dammit Death,"
...
Months passed, and the due date grew closer and closer. At this point, Death wouldn't leave Geno alone. He rarely goes to work and when he returns, he looked relieved to see Geno was okay.
Luckily, Papyurs offered to take over Death's job for a while since he knew about the baby. But every once in a while, Death would have to go out and reap.
Geno sat alone in the Save Screen, hugging himself tightly. Every time Death left, he felt extremely nervous. The baby could come and Death wouldn't be there. The thought terrified him.
Biting his lip, he tried to think positive. Death would return soon. Besides, it will be worth it! They could finally have the family they wanted, and then they could live happily together. Death said he they could get small house in the middle of nowhere and they could live there if they wanted. Geno wanted nothing else than to spend the rest of his life with his lover.
Besides, he would be able to teach his kid how to kick ass.
Smiling softly at the thought, Geno sighed. His chest was hurting again, more then usual. More signs telling him that the baby was almost ready.
It wasn't like Geno knew what he was doing. In fact, he has no idea what to do. Despite Death's comforts, he doesn't feel ready to give birth. Especially in the state his body is in. The wound on his chest didn't make things any better. He didn't dare to ask Death about his condition.
Geno wished desperately Death was here. He felt so alone and helpless. Like any moment, something could strike and he wouldn't be able to-
Suddenly Geno coughed up a fistful of blood. He covered his mouth in surprise and fear, his heartbeat beating at a rapid pace. It felt like a shape blade cutting through him, slicing trough his bones mercilessly.
When Geno pulled his hand away, he felt another flash of fear when he found it covered in blood. He was bleeding at a rapid pace, and his chest hurt so much it was almost unbearable.
"O-Oh god..." Geno whispered, small tears appearing at his eyes. He suddenly felt dizzy, and his vision blurred. Geno clutched at his chest, as he hurled large amounts of blood.
Through all of the pain, he thought he could hear somebody screaming his name. Geno tried to look up, but everything was a blur. Everything seemed to stop, even his heartbeat.
"D-Death...?" Geno manged to call out weakly before falling unconscious from blood loss and pain.
"GENO!"
...
When Death found Geno laying on the ground with a pool of fresh blood, his mind went blank from fear and panic. Death was planning this moment for weeks, yet when it finally happened, he wasn't prepared at all.
Forgetting about everything, Death rushed Geno to the nearest hospital as soon as possible. Although it was difficult to find one without risking the other gods finding out his secret relationship with a mortal, he found one and was able to get Geno there safely.
At first, the staff was surprised to find the God of Death in their hospital, but quickly forgot about it when they saw Geno.
Ever since, Geno hasn't woken up. It's been about a few days, and all Death has ever done was reap. Reaping helped distract him from all the stress that was piling up on his, even if he wasn't happy about it.
The doctors were doing everything they can to keep Geno alive and stable. They even said they would have to preform surgery to get the baby out safely if he doesn't wake up soon.
Thinking about it now, Death felt furious at himself for not thinking about the state Geno was in. He had a deep slash at his chest, and was constantly loosing blood. It was a miracle Death didn't hear his spirit waiting to be reaped.
Even if he did hear Geno's spirit calling for death, Death couldn't kill Geno. It would be like loosing Life all over again. And it would completely destroy him.
Death sat outside of the emergency room, listening to the doctors at work. They weren't aware he was there, but they knew he was waiting.
Death wasn't sure how long was he sitting out there for. He head was down, and his mind was completely blank. Death felt like at any moment, he could fall asleep and either Geno or the baby would wake up. And he wanted to be there when it happens. But he didn't want to be there to see Geno being surrounded by doctors.
His head spun from exhaustion, but he refused to sleep. But maybe for a few minutes wouldn't hurt, right? He closed for his for what felt like a second, and his head immediately shot up when he heard a child crying soon followed by painful sobs.
Death's soul leaped. Geno was okay!
Quickly glancing at the clock, he realized he was asleep for an hour, not a few minutes. Cursing under his breath, Death quickly stood up and teleported besides Geno's bed. The doctors was moving around, cleaning up. They couldn't see him, since he made himself invisible. Geno couldn't see him either, but somehow he always knew when he was around.
Geno looked exhausted, despite from being in deep sleep for days. His face was twisted with pain and discomfort, but he was okay. Tears were at the edge of his eye sockets, but other than that, his crying stopped. In his arms, was a bundle of bones, crying softly.
Death placed a soft hand onto Geno's, hoping it would soothe his nerves. Geno looked surprised for a second, but only to realized Death was with him in the room. Geno smiled softly, and looked up when one of the doctors came besides him with a clipboard.
"It seems as if the birth was successful," They said, clearing their throat. "We'll just have to run some tests, and in a couple of weeks you should be free to go."
Geno nodded. "Thank you,"
The doctor nodded in acknowledgement and adjusted their glasses. "Would you like me to inform your, uh, boyfriend of your newborn baby?"
Geno shook his head. "No need. He's already with me."
Death smiled to himself. If he could, Death would of proposed to Geno long ago, but they didn't want to risk others finding out. Nonetheless, Death had bought Geno a diamond ring. Even if he was only Geno's boyfriend, it felt like they were married.
The doctor looked confused but dismissed it. After a few moments of writing, they left Geno alone with Death and the baby.
Death became visible again, and the baby noticed him immediately. Even if their eyes were closed, they seemed to know he was there.
Instead of crying like Death expected them to do, they reached out blindly for him, letting out soft whines. Geno smiled and gently handed Death the small child. As Death held the baby, his soul couldn't help but melt at the sight.
"Heh, you did it," Death murmured quietly, feeling a bit guilty. "I-I'm sorry for not thinking about your condition, I was just so-"
"Shh, it's okay." Geno hushed, placing a tired hand on his face. "I wasn't exactly thinking either."
Death laughed a little and glanced at the newborn baby. They looked so innocent and pure. With their eyes closed and their chest gently rising up and down, it wasn't hard to figure out they had fallen asleep.
Death tried not to cry and failed as small tears fell. "What do you want to name him?"
Geno thought for a moment. "...How about Goth?"
...
Despite Goth's young age, he was already running all over the place nonstop. They were officially living in a small house in the middle of nowhere. A large meadow with a forest further away, and beautiful mountains. Sometimes Goth would get lonely so Geno would take him out every one in a while. They were the only ones living there after all.
Papyurs was happy for them, and so far kept him promising of telling nobody. Death visited him sometimes in the Underworld to have some brotherly bonding, but always had to go back to his family. Papyurs was really supportive about it, and probably the best uncle anyone could have. And a great babysitter.
Of course, Death still did his job. Surprisingly, Goth was quite helpful while reaping. Thanks to her energy drain ability, and being the God of Death's son, he was able to finish the reaping. Sometimes, Goth would go out and take care of the smaller situations while Death dealt with the larger problems.
Currently, Goth had ran off somewhere. Probably in the forest since he likes it there. In fact, it was the same forest where they confessed. It was a memory neither of them wanted to forget.
And Geno, being the stubborn mother, wouldn't stop worrying about him. So Death went to go look for Goth to prove he's okay.
Looking for Goth was harder than expected. And the dark didn't help either. The sky was covered in clouds tonight, which was usual. The sky was mostly clear, night and day. But Death dismissed the thought.
Death mindlessly wandered around, calling Goth's name very couple steps. At first, he wasn't worried. There shouldn't be a threat in these forests besides the occasion wolves or bears, but they mostly keep clear from sight. But now, he was having second thoughts.
"Goth!" Death called, somewhat annoyed and concerned. "Goth, where did you go? Come on, it's getting late!"
It almost felt like looking for Life again. No matter how many times he called her name, all he was greeted with was silence.
Finally, it got to the point when Death figured Goth wasn't in the forest. He could be in the mountains, but he wasn't allowed to go there alone. If he was in the meadow, Death would of surely noticed him...
Death's soul jolted with panic and he started to run. His mind was clouded all of the possibilities that could of happened. Anything could happen, and he wouldn't even know it. Goth could be hurt, and he wouldn't know.
The cold air hit him right in the face but he ignored it. Finding Goth was more important. They always wanted to have a child, and now they have one. But if they lost them, then that would be the end. Geno was in no condition to give birth again, and Death didn't want to risk it.
Death skidded to a halt when he heard soft whimpering. Cautiously, Death went to investigate. It wasn't long before he found them.
He instantly sagged with relief, but stiffened as Goth let out another pitiful whimper. Frowning, Death knelt besides them. He gently uncovered Goth's face and looked at him in concern. Usually, Goth was energetic and playful. Seeing him curled in a ball shaking was concerning.
"Hey buddy," Death said quietly. "What's wrong?"
Goth looked up at him, trembling. His eyes were wide with fear. "I-I was just walking w-when I felt somebody watching me. I i-ignored it until I was sure s-somebody was there..."
Death froze and a cold feeling of dread washed over him, but he signaled Goth to continue.
"I started to run, until I t-tripped and fell," Goth said quietly. "A-And I wasn't sure how to get home from here..."
Death and Geno knew the forest pretty well since they have been here countless times, before and after Goth was born. But of course, Goth had only explored some parts of the forest and wasn't familiar with most parts.
Goth hugged himself. "I-I'm sorry, I'm just s-scared. I-I never felt like this b-before,"
Death smiled softly and pulled his son into a gentle hug. Seeing Goth like this made his soul ache. Goth buried his face into his shoulder, shaking as he tried to calm down.
"It's okay," Death murmured softly. "Your safe with me..."
As they headed home, Death couldn't help but feel like they were being watched.
...
"Daddy! Where are you and mommy going?" Goth asked as Death led him through the Underworld. "You don't take me to Uncle Death's without a reason,"
"Me and your mother are going out, so I need to drop you off." Death replied with a chuckle.
Goth's eyes lit up. "Ooh! Are you two going on more dates?"
Death smirked. "Yep. Me and your mother are going to have lots of fun~"
Goth giggled and bounded alongside Death. A few dead souls glanced at them curiously before turning away to mind their own business. They learned not to ask questions.
Finally, they found Papyurs waiting for them. Goth instantly ran into his arms. Death just smiled and watched them hug. Those two were really close. Partly because Papyurs likes showering in with gifts and praises, but they were also very energetic and cheerful.
"HELLO GOTH!" Papyurs cheered. "IT'S SO GREAT TO SEE YOU AGAIN!"
"It's great to see you again too!" Goth giggled.
Papyurs grinned then turned to Death. "BROTHER! HOW ARE YOU?"
Death smiled. "I've been great bro,"
"GREAT!" Papyurs said, engulfing him into a bear hug. "HOW'S GENO?"
"He's... great," Death gasped through the tight hug. This normally happens. "Uh- your sorta crushing me, bro.."
After a few moments, Papyurs let go. "MY APOLOGIES, BROTHER!"
Death waved it off. "Nah, it's all good. I'm happy to see you too."
"Uncle Death!" Goth giggled. "Daddy and mommy are going on more dates!"
"OH, ARE THEY NOW?" Papyurs said with a slight smirk. "WELL, YOU TWO HAVE FUN!"
Death rolled his eyes with a smile. "Yeah, whatever. See ya,"
With a snap of his fingers, Death teleported back home where Geno was waiting. His lover was sitting on the couch, staring outside the window with a thoughtful look on his face.
Geno smiled when he felt somebody wrap their arms around him from behind. "Hey babe~"
"That took longer than usual," Geno commented, blushing slightly.
"Excuse you, I was crushed by Papyurs so..." Death replied with a chuckle. "Anyway, when do you want to go?"
Geno shrugged. "I'm ready when you are,"
"Well, since Goth isn't here, we're all alone~" Death purred and breathed onto Geno's neck, making him shiver. His hands traveled down to Geno's hips. "We could have a little fun~"
Geno blushed horribly and pushed Death's face away. "NO."
"Damn, your no fun," Death laughed, removing his hands. "Whatever, let's go."
Death grabbed Geno's hand and pulled him outside. The sun setting and the clear sky was a series of colors. The air was fresh and cool. Everything was perfect.
Instead of fancy dinners or going out in public, they liked to have simple dates in the wilderness or in the middle of nowhere far away from society. Where there was nobody around, and a beautiful view. It was just them alone, together.
Death smiled warmly at his lover and pulled him into the meadow. The meadow was dotted with wildflowers that flowed freely in the soft breeze. He had a special plan for tonight.
Finally, they reached the center. Everything seemed far off as they stared into each others eyes. Death intertwined his fingers with Geno's, and an arm snaked around his waist. Geno blushed as Death pulled him along.
"W-Wait! I can't dance!" Geno protested, as he clumsily stumbled after him.
Death chuckled. "Neither can I. But you won't know unless you try, right?"
Geno huffed but he knew Death was right. He never tried to dance with anyone before, and Geno always assumed he couldn't dance.
"Just follow my lead, okay?" Death said with a comforting smile. Geno reluctantly nodded and yelped slightly when Death pressed his body against his.
As Death stepped back, Geno stepped forward. After a while, they were starting to get the hang of it. Their bodies moved at the same time, and their souls pounded in sync. Time passed swiftly like the wind as they danced the night away. The sun disappeared behind the mountains, and the sky slowly turned dark. Eventually, fireflies started to appear, lighting up the sky. The two took a wrong step once or twice, but always laughed it off and returned back to normal.
Geno buried his head into Death's chest, sighing happily. He wished this night could go on forever.
Finally, Death finished it off by dipping his lover and kissing him passionately. Geno blushed furiously but closed his eyes and returned the kiss.
A few moments passed, before they pulled away. Death gently pulled Geno back onto his feet with a slight smirk.
"See? It wasn't so bad~" Death said teasingly. Geno only rolled his eyes in response, smiling to himself. He knew Death was nervous about dancing as well.
They watched the fireflies for a while, cuddling. The stars twinkled above and the moon stood out brightly among the black sky. Very few clouds drifted across the sky, and the breeze always carried them away elsewhere.
Geno curled up in Death's arms, his eyes sparkling. Death just held him close, humming softly. They silently enjoyed each others company as the night flew past.
"Oh Death~?"
Death instantly looked up. Geno lifted his head at the voice, frowning. There wasn't anyone around, so who was talking?
"...Tori...?"
"Death, where are you?"
The voice belonged to a woman's. It sounded so familiar, yet something was a bit off. Death started trembling slightly, and shook his head fanatically. No- she couldn't be... She's dead!
Geno looked up at him in a mixture of fear and concern. "Death, whats happening? Who's 'Tori?'" Geno paused, and realization washed over him. "Is Tori... Life?"
"I-I..." Death took a shaky breath. "I don't know,"
Geno bit his lip, and snuggled to Death's side. He couldn't deny the fact that he was afraid, and Death looked extremely troubled.
"Please come out, Death!"
Death's breathing quickened. Geno noticed immediately and hugged from in attempted to comfort him.
"We can go home if you want," Geno offered with a small smile. "I don't mind,"
Death shook his head. "No- they sound exactly like her! I-I have to go check!"
Geno nodded in understanding. "I'll come with you,"
"No, you stay here," Death insisted, holding him by the shoulders. He looked at Geno in the eyes. "Wait here, okay? It might be a trap and I don't want you to get involved."
"Death, please!" Life called. "It's me, your best friend!"
Geno looked like he was about to protest, but figured it was no use. Hesitatingly, he nodded. "Okay, but please... come back."
Death smiled gently and gave Geno a small kiss. "Don't worry, I will."
Geno watched in silence as Death hurried away. If Life was somehow alive, and was here looking for him, then Death had to check.
Maybe Life turned out to be alive and was looking for him as well? And somehow she ended up here, looking for him? There were so many questions, Death's head started to hurt.
"Where are you Death?" Life called out sadly. "Can you not hear me...?"
"Tori!" Death yelled, hoping she could hear him. If she did, she didn't respond.
"Did you... give up on me?"
Death gritted his teeth in frustration and ran faster. Why was this so hard? "Of course I didn't! Tori, where are you?"
The words felt like they were coming from somebody else. He have given up looking for her, but that doesn't mean he wished she was still alive!
No matter where he went, it felt like he wasn't making any progress. The voice wasn't growing quieter or louder. As if it was everywhere.
"I'm a fool for thinking you cared about me..."
Death ran through the forest, pushing plants out of the way. He tripped over a few roots, but always scrambled back to his feet and continued his search.
"That's not true!" Death cried desperately, tears forming at the edge of his eyes. "I do care about you! I just can't find you."
Everything was so wrong. Why was Life thinking this way? The Life he knew always thought positively, and tried to lighten up the mood. Never would she try to hurt someone without feeling guilty about it.
"Your right, I'm not the fool..." Life whispered. "You are!"
Death skidded to a halt. Something wasn't right. It sounded just like her, but they don't act like her...
Angrily, Death stared at nothing. "Your not Tori! Who are you?"
Everything froze and Death's blood ran cold when demonic laughter echoed through his head. Death clutched at his head, in attempted to make the laughter stop.
He recognized this laughter. It was childish, merciless, and demonic. Something trigger in the back of his mind and Death found himself running back to Geno. His vision was blurred with tears but he didn't care.
"Your so stupid!" Chara giggled. "Did you really think Life was still alive? I killed her silly! Or did you forget?"
How can he be so stupid? Of course Life was dead, there was no way for the dead to come back. He spent countless hours each day looking for her until he finally gave up and accepted she was dead.
Death somehow knew this was a trap, but he ignored the small voice in his head that said so. He had high hopes that Life was alive, yet it was all a lie.
Right now, that didn't matter. What mattered what getting back to Geno and make sure he's okay.
"Oh Death," Chara laughed. "You can't save Geno now~"
"Geno!" Death cried, finally regaining back his focus and teleporting back to the meadow. It was almost funny on how things could change so quickly. One moment they could be enjoying their date and the next everything could go downhill.
Life was truly cruel.
Death found Chara standing over Geno with a red, corrupted scythe behind her back. Her eyes were black as the void, and her smile was stretched into a menacing grin. Noting about her changed.
Chara glanced at him, and giggled. Death saw Geno flinch slightly. He knew Geno and Chara did not have a good history together, even if it was a different version.
"Long time no see, Death?" Chara snickered. "Did you really think you would be able to get rid of me that easily?"
Death glared at Chara in pure hatred. "What do you want Chara?"
Chara's smirk grew. "I'm here to help finish your job of course! You know, he's long overdue for a visit to the Underworld. I was just waiting for the perfect moment!"
Instantly, Death knew what they were going to do. His eyes flared with magic dangerously. "Don't you dare hurt him..."
Geno gulped. He haven't felt this venerable in so long. The feeling was beyond terrifying. And he hated it.
Chara grinned and in a flash, she brought out her scythe and slashed down Geno's chest. Blood splattered on the ground and onto Chara's black dress. It happened so fast, Death didn't get the chance to react.
"No!" Death screamed but he knew he couldn't do anything. In a fit of fury, he summoned his own scythe.
"Ooh, now you want to fight." Chara sneered. "Honestly, I was wondering when-"
Whatever Chara had to say was cut short. Death forcefully slashed his scythe down her chest. He enjoyed the look of surprise and shock on her face as she fell to the ground.
Blood was splattered on his scythe, but Death didn't care. "You say Geno was long overdue, when your the one who needed to be killed the most." Death said coolly. He didn't sound like himself. In fact, he sounded like a different person.
Chara coughed up blood and smiled up at him, even if she was able to die. "I... knew... you had... that side in you..."
Death didn't respond as Chara went limp. They would surely be punished in the Underworld for their actions.
It ended as quickly as it started.
A weak cough caught his attention. All anger and coldness immediately washed away as his eyes landed on Geno. He was bleeding rapidly and the glitch on his eye was slowly fading away, revealing his melted skull.
"Geno!" Death was instantly at his side. He knew Chara's scythe was meant to stretch the reaping longer, leaving the victim to suffer a little longer. Death's scythe was designed to kill instantly and painlessly.
Big, warm tears flowed out of Death's eye sockets. "Geno, oh god, please tell me your okay!"
Geno coughed and weakly looked up at him. "T-Take... care of G-Goth... for me, please...?"
"D-Don't talk like that," Death growled, holding Geno close to him. "Your not going to die on me, alright? Save your energy."
Geno gave a small laughed, even though it hurt. Tears fell from his face and Death instantly wiped them away. "Ha... p-please don't cry, it's okay..."
"It's not okay!" Death cried, sobbing harder. "How am I suppose to tell Goth that his mother won't be coming home because I failed to protect him? He needs you, I need you dammit!"
"...shh..." Geno hushed softly. "C-Can you promise me... something?"
Death furiously wiped the tears away and nodded. "A-Anything for you,"
"P-Please..." Geno rasped, his voice barely a whisper. "...don't forget me... and can you smile for me... please?"
Even though it hurt to, Death forced a smile for him. "I-I'm smiling, Geno. I'm smiling..."
Death's soul jolted when Geno's body started to slowly turn to dust. Geno smiled softly at him, noticing his panic and weakly held his hand.
"...t-thank you... I love you, so much..."
Death hugged his lover, sobbing. This couldn't be happening, right? He would wake up at home, and this would just be a cruel nightmare... right? Everything will be okay.
Death's questions were answered when Geno turned into dust in his arms. Horrified, Death stared at the dust in his arms speechless before his agonized cries echoed throughout the air.
...
When Goth found out about Geno's death, he was completely heartbroken. He didn't talk or interact with anybody for a week. Even Papyurs couldn't talk to him. Even though Goth doesn't blame Death for Geno's death, it still hurt him to know his son thinks it wasn't his fault.
Goth didn't want to live in their home anymore, since it brought back to many memories. Death was completely fine with it, and now Goth lives in the Underworld with Death and Papyurs.
For some reason, Geno's and Chara's souls weren't present in the Underworld. Probably because Geno only had one-ninth of a soul, and Chara wasn't human nor monster. But a demon.
The other gods never found out about Goth or his secret relationship, but noticed his sorrow. They tried to help him, but it was hard to help someone when you don't know the reason why their so broken.
Even though Death lost his best friend Life, and his lover Geno, he was grateful he had Goth and Papyurs with him. They were the only ones who could make him forget his sorrows, even for a little while.
Now, Death carried Geno's scarf everywhere he goes. When he's reaping, visiting old places, or even sitting alone doing nothing. He had Geno's scarf with him. And Death refuses to leave the closest thing he had of Geno.
Death stood in the center of the Save Screen. He remembered their first meeting. It was clear as day, and more painful than a sharp knife cutting through your chest.
"Heh, your really killing me here, Geno..." Death joked with his voice cracking. Newly born tears formed and fell onto the cold ground. "Please, come home..."
Death waited even though he knew it was useless. Nobody was going to reply, and a certain skeleton will never be coming back home. But he waited, and waited, and waited...
...And Death was greeted with silence.
