Chapter 47: The Battle of the Gods

Third POV

Error was in the middle of an attack when he felt it and judging by the look on Ink's face, Error knew he felt it, too.

The familiar presence of another 'error' fading to nothing like the tiniest ripple smoothing flat on a peaceful surface of the water.

A new burst of rage ignited within Error's soul as he raised his hand up in the air summons a battalion of black bones in the 'sky' with sharp, jagged end similar to what he had seen Geno used earlier. He reveled at Ink's shocked face for a short moment before he swiftly brought his hand down.

The bone spikes plummet through the air like a black rain of blade, embedding themselves on the pristine white floor and covering every inch with inky darkness.

Ink was forced to flee the area, zigzagging his way through the deadly bones that rained around him. He was light on his feet, not staying on the same spot for too long as he parkours from one point to the other.

He kept on moving, adding more speed to his every step as he focused his mind on getting out of range.

Ink didn't make it out unscathed. Bleeding scratches litters his arms and legs and the end of his ridiculously long scarf was mostly gone and what was left was in shreds. Ink could only grimace at the sight; most of his ideas were scribbled there.

Other than that, he was fine.

Gazing over the sea of pitch-black bones, Ink squinted to find his enemy. He waited for an extended moment and keeps an eye on any form of movement until he belatedly realized that Error is not there with him anymore.

Cursing to himself, Ink hurries to find Reaper and Geno.

Seething rage burned like a hot searing blade embedded in the god of death's chest and competing with the destructive, chaotic fury of the destroyer of the universe.

Both ready to engage in a bloodshed battle, eager to murder the other and fight with all their strength to take back what was rightfully theirs.

The tension in the air was thick and heavily weighted down with both of their magic that threatened to crack the ground beneath their feet.

Reaper stood up with unnatural ease with Geno tightly secured in his arms. He summons his scythe and from the floor, the weapon lifted itself up. It spins through the air as it flew, obeying its master's call, and levitating idly by Reaper's side; waiting for the next order.

Error didn't wait for another second as he sent a wave of attack right at the god of death. Blue strings weave through the air, slicing and slashing its path like wild claws of an invisible animal.

Reaper pauses to make sure Geno was tightly pressed against him first before jumping back. He sends his scythe forward to meet the attack. With mastered precision, the scythe cleanly cuts through the chaotic mess of razor-sharp strings within a single swing.

The scythe continues to curved on its path, spinning through the air and heading straight for Error without an ounce of hesitation.

Error jumped up in the air, easily evading the blade as it swished underneath him and he landed on his feet once more with a smug smirk but he stumbled when the grim reaper's scythe swung on him from behind. Red splatters on the white floor and Error bristled with anger.

Reaper has no time to be proud as he was caught off guard when a black bone whizzed passed him, narrowly missing his head and making a small tear at the side of his hood. No time to look back as more of them follows.

He leaped back with an extra boost from his magic to gain distance before easily dodging the sharpened bones with only as much as small tears on his already tattered cloak. Re-calling back his scythe just in time to deflect a new batch of black bones aiming for his head but he failed to detect the blue strings that have already surrounded him.

"Sh*t!"

Reaper was caught in a mesh of blue strings, wrapping tightly around him and his limbs like sharp wires digging into his bones and restraining his every movement. Vaguely, he heard a cry and immediately checked on Geno to find him fighting against the strings pulling at him and despite his weakened state, Reaper can clearly see the evident fear in his eyes.

Growling protectively, Reaper called for his scythe but everything went blank when a hot white pain erupted from his shoulder, and at that split second, Geno slipped from his arms.

He looked down to find the source of pain: a spike of black bone embedded on his shoulder, piercing through his back, and sending a shockwave throughout his body that momentarily paralyzed him. Pain overwhelms the fear and panic as he could only watch as Geno was dragged away, barely registering his cries for help.

Reaper fell onto his knees followed by his scythe clattering loudly against the floor beside him. Despite the growing coldness in his body, he felt a heatwave hit him and he looked up to find an enormous black Blaster before him, jaw's wide open and in its hollow mouth was a massive ball of energy in colors of fiery hell.

Dread pooled in Reaper's soul and from the corner of his vision in the distance, he can see Geno reaching out to him, tangled in blue strings and screaming something he couldn't make out due to the loud hum of the Blaster's energy charging. It was rapidly increasing in pitch like a whistle bomb ready to explode at any given second.

In the last-ditch attempt, Reaper tried to squirm against the strings holding him in place but it wouldn't budge. There's no assurance that he'll survive if he got directly hit by that blaster.

For once, Reaper felt his own death looms over his head.

He thought he was going to die until Ink came plummeting from the sky and pierced down through the Blaster's skull. The ground cave in from the impact of Ink's landing and for a split second, Reaper caught sight of the red glint in Ink's eyes.

Without the shell to contain the charged energy, the Blaster exploded in itself. The strings snapped and Reaper felt a body slammed against him and he was carried away. The last thing he saw was Geno, slung over Error's shoulder and being carried away in the opposite direction before a flash of bright light blinded him.

BOOOOM!!

There was a deafening bang, a cloud of smoke and fire rising into the sky followed by the ground rumbling underneath them. Next was a strong gust of wind sweeping over them, sending them off course and they crash and tumble onto the floor.

That's all Reaper knows before everything went black.

Error dropped Geno once he deemed they were far enough and Geno, with all the injuries he's sustained, couldn't even scramble back even if he wanted to. He could only tense and clenched his eyes shut as he braced himself for the inevitable pain now that he was back in Error's hands.

"You are not leaving me!"

Geno flinched. Every word felt as if they were shackles and chains weighing him down. Error's possessiveness is trapping him in its suffocating hold and Geno was terrified of the mere concept of being trapped. He thought there was nothing worse than being hunted down by the Destroyer himself.

"You are NEVER Leaving me here ALONE again!"

There was a strange sympathy coming from those words but Geno immediately crushed them. This was Error, the merciless monster who destroys universes and killed thousands of innocent people, he doesn't know sympathy and compassion so he shouldn't be-

His thoughts abruptly halted when his eyes betrayed him and dared to look up at Error. The terror was instantly replaced by bewilderment and confusion as he stares with wide eyes at the bright blue tears streaming down Error's face, tracing the equally blue markings running down his cheeks.

If it weren't for the droplets, Geno wouldn't have noticed that Error was crying at all.

Fears were forgotten, unwillingly taken over by a pang of concern, guilt, and confusion that made Geno question the reality of his situation.

"I am SICK and Tired of being All Alone in this stupid dimension and I am not letting ANYONE take you away from me!"

Somehow, Geno found it less threatening than before. Not while he's staring at a crying Error. Every instinct in his body screaming at him that there was something entirely wrong about this.

This wasn't how he portrayed Error to be and this isn't the Error that tortured him.

This was the real Error. Was he? Or was it another trick?

Before Geno could even utter a word, Error turned; ready to leave.

"No, wait!" Geno reaches out to him, momentarily forgetting his injuries as he pushed himself up on his feet, only to fall back down on his knees as a stabbing pain erupted from his side and his hands flew to his broken ribs.

Error simply spared him a glance before leaping off a great distance and leaving Geno alone with nothing but a broken trail of fresh blood that Geno certainly knew doesn't belong to himself.

~~~~
Ink was helping a dazed Reaper up when Error dropped before them with a heavy impact that cracks the floor and shook the ground beneath their feet.
He looked up at them, fury raging in his blood-red eyes and he lashes out on them.
He didn't hold back.
He fought like a wild beast.
He sends a barrage of attack, one after the other with barely enough room to breathe. Strings, jagged bones, and blasters. Error unleashes them all.
In what used to be an empty, blank space, now turned into a fiery hell of destruction.
He shattered the grim reaper's scythe, he splintered Ink's paintbrush, snatch away the sash of paint vials and crushed them under his foot with great pleasure.
Error tore open a portal and Reaper and Ink were thrown out.
Battered, defenseless, and on the brink of unconsciousness, they could glare at the destroyer from the other side, meeting Error's cold menacing eyes before the strings sew the portal closed.
Despite meeting the destroyer eye to eye, both of them failed to notice the real tears running down Error's face camouflaged by the blue markings on his cheeks.
