Chapter 23: Final Decision

Third POV

Surprisingly, it didn't took long for Geno to emerge from the kitchen with Frisk by his side. His face has been cleaned off of blood and tears but there's still a bit of noticeable discoloration under his eye socket. The glitch was back, sealing his bleeding right eye.

Geno briefly scanned the room and, one by one, looking at the other three skeletons before fixing his gaze on the carpeted floor. Unable to form any eye contacts.

Sans and Reaper immediately perked up upon his sight, their faces hopeful and expectant. Ink stood up from his spot on the couch and approached Geno.

The creator looked at him straight in the eye, full of concern yet with an understanding smile. Geno nodded at the silent question. Forming a small smile to assure that he's fine.

He finally made up his mind.

Ink nodded in understanding, moving to the side to make way and pulling the human child with him.

Geno took a deep breath. Gathering up his courage before stepping forward to face the two eagerly waiting skeletons.

Geno looked at them in the eyes. 'Eyes' filled with love and concern yet with a hint of fear, staring back at him. Pleading at him.

The longer he stared at them, the greater the pressure he felt. It was crushing him. To the point that he starts hesitating. Geno clenched his eye shut and shook his head to rid of the whispering voices in his head. Which earns him worried gazes from everyone.

But he ignored them. He needs to stick to his decision. Keeping in mind the reasons.

Looking up once again to meet those eyes, he took another deep breath to calm his frantically beating soul. His whole body was trembling in anxiety. In fear of hurting one of them.

And as he met their gaze, guilt already starts gnawing at him knowing that he'll be the cause of inevitable pain.

That's why he have to be careful. He wants to do this as painless as possible. If that's even possible.

Geno shifted his gaze to Sans.

And the result was instant. Reaper tensed as he felt his soul nearly stopped as Geno looked away from him. Then it shatters as he watched Geno starts walking towards Sans.

The god of death gaped in disbelief. His mind blank and body frozen in utter shock. He couldn't breathe. He couldn't move. All he could do was watch.

Watch as Geno approach the similarly gaping Sans. Only Sans felt the opposite.

Sans' felt like his soul would burst out of his chest. Overwhelming relief washing over him. Waiting in unbearable suspense was worth it. He unconsciously held his breath as Geno approached him.

As soon as Geno was within his arm's reach, Sans immediately wrapped his arms around Geno's seemingly fragile body. Mutterings 'thank you's again and again.

Reaper looked away. Clenching his teary eyes shut and bowing head to hide his face in shame. He turned away and was ready to leave until Ink grabbed his arm, successfully stopping him.

Reaper blurrily glanced at Ink who simply tilted his head towards the 'couple's' direction. Reaper curiously looked over at them as he wiped his tears away.

When his vision cleared up, he saw and realized that Geno wasn't hugging back. Instead he was trying to gently pry Sans off of him. Struggling to escape the tightly wrapped arms around him as he whispered "Sans, wait."

Sans loosened his arms but didn't let go. A wide smile plastered on his face. But seeing Geno's frown and guilty eye made his smile fell.

He was about to ask what was wrong but before he could do so, Geno spoke. Two words. It was all it takes for his soul to die.

"I'm sorry." Geno said audibly. As gentle as he could while sending him a concern gaze. Yet no matter how gentle it was, it still felt like knives repeatedly stabbing Sans' soul with every heavy beat. Sans' eye lights disappeared as his arms went limp and fell by his sides.

Geno felt guilt and regret immediately rise within him. Drowning him. He took Sans' hands in his. "I'm really sorry. But... I really can't. He... He made me feel special..." Geno began.

'And you don't', says a small voice inside Sans' head. And the voice was right. Sans was very much aware that he had never given Geno any intimate affection before. Even when Reaper starts courting Geno and he's so darn jealous, he still kept his feelings to himself.

Because he's a f*cking coward.

When he finally gathered enough courage to confess, it was already too late.

"It's okay." Sans said. It was his own fault. Geno doesn't need to apologize. "As long as you're happy..." He trailed off. Unable to complete the sentence.

Sans beamed a realistic fake smile with tears brimming his eye sockets. No, he's not happy. He couldn't be happy knowing that he lost someone very special to him. It was his own fault.

And this was the consequences. His punishment.

If only he acted sooner. If only he wasn't such a coward. If only.

Geno tenderly smiled back. His eye brimming with tears as well. He knew Sans was hurt but was relieved that he understood. The glitched skeleton hugged Sans and the latter hugged back rather tightly.

"Thank you." Geno whispered gratefully. He thought Sans would be mad. But he guessed he was just over thinking things again.

Geno pulled away before turning around and walking off in the opposite direction. At that moment, Sans lost someone very special.

Geno approached the frozen Reaper. The god of death have been watching the whole time. He saw it all. And he still couldn't believe it.

He stared wide eyed and gaping as Geno walked towards him with glowing tears in his only visible eye. Their gaze met and Geno smiled wider. His only eye filled with love and joy.

Warmth bloomed inside the grim reaper as his soul was filled with the blissful feeling of love. Reaper ran to Geno, nearly tackling the latter for a hug.

Lifting the smaller skeleton and spinning around. Their giggles filling the quiet room. There were no words needed to be said. One look and everything's been relayed.

As they gaze at each other's eyes, their faces grew closer and, finally, their 'lips' met. It was just a brief kiss. Full of love and ever so tender. Their very first kiss.

Reaper rest his forehead against the other's. "Don't ever do that again." He said rather seriously with a noticeable hint of fear. He was talking about scaring the hell out of him when he thought Geno had chosen Sans.

Geno just smiled. He feels like if he talked, his voice would tremble. But even then, Reaper got the message and was satisfied. He pulled away, gliding his hands over Geno's exposed arms until he reached his hands. Reaper held them in his.

"Let's go home." The god of death whispered and pulled the other towards the already forming portal behind him.

But Geno resisted.

Reaper faltered. "What's wrong?" He asked worriedly. He grew even more worried when Geno began crying. "Can we- *sob* can w-we stay here a little longer?"

Reaper sighed tiredly yet mildly relieved that it was nothing serious.

"Of course. Anything you want." Reaper said as he cupped Geno's face and pecking a small kiss on his forehead. Wiping away the magical tears with his thumb.

The portal closed and Geno thanked Reaper.

Geno looked back at Sans who was being comforted by Ink and Frisk. The glitched skeleton walked over to them followed by the taller one.

"Sans," Geno began and said skeleton perked up. Although his eyes looked tired and defeated. Almost dead. Geno once again felt guilty. "Can we still be friends?"

Lights returned to Sans' eyes as he stared at Geno. Although it was not as bright as before but at least there was some sort of life in him.

A smile, real one, formed on Sans' face. "Of course." Then opened his arms to offer a hug. Geno accepted it and rubbed Sans' back for comfort. He knew Sans needed it now more than ever.

"Yay! I love happy ending!" Frisk suddenly yelled loudly with her high pitch child voice. Jumping up and down and clinging to everyone's arms except Reaper's.

Frisk's cheerful exclamation made everyone cracked a smile. Geno and Sans finally pulled away from each other.

"Let's go celebrate!" The human child suggested eagerly.

"Sorry kid. No can do." Sans said with a chuckle.

Said child faltered as her tiny shoulders sagged dramatically in an exaggerated disappointment. "Aww, why not?" She whined.

"Because we can't let anyone else know we're here." Ink explained which only made her even more confused.

Realizing she can't win an argument with the creator, she turned to Geno. Placing her hands together in a praying manner, she began pleading. "Can we, please?"

Geno can't say no to that. "Uh,... okay." He approved reluctantly as he scratch his cheek with his finger in a shy fashion. The human child began cheering again and jumping around Geno.

Frisk began reciting different fun activities as she held Geno's hand and began leading him to the kitchen. Most likely to bake a cake which was the very first thing she mentioned.

As Reaper watched them go, he couldn't help but saw a parent-child relationship in Geno and Frisk. He briefly wondered about having a family with Geno and having a baby-

Blood burst from his nose after realizing how inappropriate his thoughts have become. His hands flew to his nose in an attempt to stop the bleeding. His gaze wandered to Sans who was surprisingly bleeding through his nose as well.

There was a brief moment of awkward silence as they stared at each other.

Ink was there, his face full of disappointment. He doesn't even wanna know what they were thinking about. He watched as the two teleported somewhere else. Probably to clean up themselves.

Ink stalked to the kitchen to see Geno and Frisk gathering the necessary ingredients and placing them on the counter. He sat down on one of the chairs and quietly watched them with a fond smile.

He was glad that everything turned out fine. Even more glad that Geno was okay. Mentally. He was worried that Geno would blame himself, again, and be guilty for rejecting Sans. Thankfully, Sans was an understanding monster.

If it wasn't for Sans, Geno would've been sulking right now.

Ink leaned back against his chair and sighed. Finally, it's over.

"Done!" Geno declared upon putting the cake batter into the preheated oven. "Now we wait."

"Let's play outside!" Frisk suggested as she once again lead the way, dragging Geno to the door.

"Wait, Frisk! It's cold! I don't have my jacket!" Geno reminded. But being a careless child she is, she doesn't care. She pulled Geno out the door and into the snowy landscape.

Ink nonchalantly following behind but he stayed on the front porch. He guessed it became his habit to watch over Geno.

The human child and the glitched skeleton have began having a friendly snowball fight. Chuckles and giggles echoing throughout the place. Then Sans suddenly appeared and was caught in the crossfire.

More laughter rang out and more snowballs flew around. Some were engulfed in blue magic.

Ink watches them from afar. Then, the god of death materialized beside him. Joining him in watching over the others.

A few minutes of silence before the cloaked skeleton broke it by asking a question.

"Why didn't you tell him?" Reaper asked. They both knew what he was talking about. Geno's immortality. It would've been easier if only Ink told Geno that he was a god. Reaper wondered what was in the creator's mind.

Ink's glance at him for a second before shifting his gaze back at the snowball fight. He sighed.

"Look at him." Ink simply said.

Reaper did. His eyes easily landing on the glitched skeleton. It was fairly easy to spot him considering he was wearing black clothes. He watched fondly as the said skeleton laughed merrily as he shield himself from the frozen assault. A smile crept it's way to the god of death's face.

"You see that?" Ink continued which made the grim reaper raised a nonexistent brow. Quite confused as to what was the creator was talking about.

"He's not ready to say good bye to this universe." Ink said rather sympathetically.

"I see." The grim reaper began then his grin slightly widened. "It's not like I'm gonna lock him up there. I can take him wherever he wants." He said. His deep voice's gentle and loving.

"There are rules, Reaper, and you know it." Ink said rather quietly. As if he was sad about something. A frown adorning his lips. Reaper's grin melted into a frown as well.

"I know."
