Chapter 22: Choices?

Third POV

Geno folded his arms over the table and rested his head on it. His soul pulsing fast and hands trembling a bit in anxiety. He feels like he's drowning but he's too stressed to even think about it.

He needs to choose. But who?

Geno doesn't want to hurt either of them. If he could choose both of them, he would. But Geno knows that's not how a relationship works. He must choose only one.

But how the heck was he suppose to choose between Sans and Reaper? They both played a big role in his life. In fact, the majority of his life was spent with them. He just can't just leave one of them.

What should he do? If he choose Reaper, Sans would be devastated. Geno knows how much Sans care for him. They've been through a lot. Through countless genocides. Sure there were times that they would violently argue but they always made up sooner or later.

But if he choose Sans? Geno doesn't know what will Reaper do. He admits that he doesn't know everything about the grim reaper but he knows Reaper also cares about him. More than how Sans care for him.

They both loved him. But who does he love?

Why does everything have to be so complicated? He can't do this. Can't he just disappear and everything just be over? No. That's running away. Geno would rather ran away than hurt either of them. But-

His thoughts were cut off when he felt a tug on his sleeve. He lifted his head from the table and glance at his side. It was Frisk.

He forgot that she was still there. She was smiling warmly despite her swollen and slightly red eyes due to crying earlier. "Do you wanna talk? Maybe I can help?" She offered.

Geno doubt she could. What does a child knows about this kind of complicated situation? But he'll talk for the sake of his sanity. He sat up straighter and leaned back against his chair.

"Frisk, who do you think should I choose? Sans or Reaper?" Geno asked almost hesitantly. And instantly regretted it upon realizing that he's letting a freaking child choose for him.

Geno internally groaned in frustration as he shut his eye. This was why Reaper and Ink were so protective of him. He's helpless. He can't even make a decision for himself. Pathetic.

But still. Frisk looks like she's in deep thought. "Who do you like better?" She asked.

That's the point. He doesn't know. Geno shook his head and Frisk frowned at the answer she had received. She once again dived deep into her thought. Geno just silently waited for the next question.

"What do you think about Reaper?" Frisk asked after a moment of silence.

"A jerk." Came an immediate reply from Geno. Well, that was the first thing that comes into his mind. A small smile made its way to Geno's lips and Frisk didn't missed it.

"At first he was a total jerk. He wouldn't leave me alone. I hate him..." Geno paused. But that was before. "Then, a lot of things happened and I found out how much he cared about me."

Geno couldn't describe how much Reaper had cared for him. How he was willing to do anything for him. Remembering all those sweet things Reaper had said to him made his soul pulsed faster and warmer. He didn't even know he was blushing.

After a moment of silence, when Frisk deemed that Geno doesn't have anything else to say, she asked "what about Sans?".

Geno's small smile suddenly faltered and Frisk definitely noticed. That simple question made him actually think about what he thinks about Sans.

He only saw Sans as a friend. But that was before Sans confessed his feelings. Geno never thought things would turn out this way.

He never thought his best friend was in love with him. It wasn't quite obvious since Sans never showed intimate affection towards him. Or to any other monster, in fact. Aside his brother. Unlike Reaper who was openly declaring his intention.

Sans was the secretive type. That's why Geno was a bit hesitant in choosing him. He doesn't know Sans' intention. But still, Sans was his best friend. He can't just betray him like that after all they've been together.

Remembering Sans' confession, Geno couldn't help but feel bad for Sans' desperation.

Geno tried to remember the other things Sans had said before he fainted. Everything just happened so quickly. He was still surprised at the confession that he could barely pay attention to his banter.

Thinking deeply...

'You don't belong there'

As if he was struck by lightning, Geno was paralyzed. He couldn't breathe or move as the cold realization dawned on him.

He's a mortal.

And Reaper was a god. It's forbidden.

That was what Sans was trying to say. His 'lips' began to tremble as tears forms on his only eye. He looked down at the table but not really seeing anything. He was too preoccupied with his thought.

Geno never felt so stupid. How could he let his feelings blinds him from the truth. How shameless of him to think that he could ever be with a god.

Maybe...

Maybe Sans was a better choice for him.

More tears poured down his face. He didn't bother wiping them away. He feels like he just died upon making that decision.

Reaper have done so much for him. And this is how he thanked him? By rejecting him? Geno felt terrible. But it's the right thing to do...

Right?

His mind said yes yet his heart screamed no.

No. He wouldn't let his feelings ruled over his mind again. But it hurts so much. How was he suppose to explain this to Reaper? How was he suppose to tell him that he'd chosen another?

Geno placed a hand over his chest where his soul would be. It was pulsing fast. Too fast. He couldn't breathe. He couldn't see anything through his tears.

All he could recognize at the moment was the unbearably heavy beating of his soul. The anxiety was too much. He can't do this.

He can't hurt Reaper.

He'd rather die.

"Frisk," Geno called the child ever so softly. Frisk shifted her gaze to meet his but he's not even looking at her direction.

"Get the knife."

Frisk felt her blood ran cold and her little body was paralyzed in shock.

At the lack of response, Geno turned towards her. Frisk almost fell out of her chair in further shock upon seeing the other half of Geno's face.

It was covered with crimson liquid that Frisk could only identify as blood. It was coming from the eye hidden under the glitch.

"Frisk, please..." Geno softly but urgently pleaded to the human child. "Get the knife."

Still in the state of shock, the human child shook her head vigorously before clumsily clambering off her chair and running off to the others in the other room.

"Ink!" She called out loud. Panic and fear evident in her high pitch voice as she runs towards the creator. "Geno's bleeding and and th- t-the knife- he wants the knife!" She stuttered which alarmed the three skeletons especially Sans and Reaper.

The two were about to dash into the kitchen but Ink immediately stopped them and told them to wait instead as he checks on Geno.

Sans and Reaper both reluctantly did as they were told and watched as Ink disappeared into the kitchen followed by Frisk. As soon as the creator was out of sight, they quickly but silently followed suit but stayed hiding on each side of the doorway. Peeking through unnoticeably.

When Ink made it to the kitchen, he found Geno at the dining table, sobbing uncontrollably and hugging himself as if he was cold. Glowing blue tears were pouring out from his left eye and blood from the other one although hidden under the glitch.

'Not again' was the first thing that came out of Ink's mind before jogging over to the crying skeleton. Geno had said that it always happens whenever Gaster was around but Ink thinks it was something else.

Ink grabbed Geno by the shoulders and slightly shook him while calling his name.

"Geno."

Said skeleton looked up as he sniffed and hiccupped uncontrollably. Sans felt horrible for making Geno go through this but another side of him says it has to be done. Reaper was having trouble keeping himself in place as his protective instinct rose as seconds pass by watching Geno cry helplessly.

Ink's expression was sympathetic. He knows it would be hard for Geno to choose but he didn't anticipated that it'd be this bad.

"Are you okay?" Ink asked tenderly only for Geno to burst into tears again.

"Kill me." Geno's voice was hoarse and trembling. Frisk have never seen Geno like this and it terrifies her. It makes her feel like she'll lose him at any moment.

Ink's grip on Geno's shoulders tightened until it hurts. This is bad. He's under too much stress. He have to calm him down.

Pulling another chair for him to sit close to the crying skeleton, Ink took a brief time to paint a clean towel in thin air. He made Geno face him before dismissing the glitches.

More crimson liquid poured out which alarmed Sans. He would've jumped out from his hiding spot if not for Reaper who held him in place with his magic.

Ink used the towel to gently wipe the blood and tears off of Geno's face. Geno, with great effort, was able to stopped the tears but he has no control over the other eye.

"Tell me what happened." Ink softly commanded as he continues to clean Geno's face.

Geno remained silent. Trying to figure out where he would start. But he could only came up with an apology.

"I'm so-rry." Geno said audibly. His voice cracked and he sounded hopeless.

Ink sighed. "I'm so sorry, too." He placed the towel down on the table and held both of Geno's hands tightly. "Maybe-... maybe we should do this another day, alright? Maybe you're not ready..." Ink trailed off when Geno shook his head. The creator was a slightly taken aback.

"Are you sure? You want to choose now?" The creator asked with evident concern lacing his voice. He looked straight into Geno's eyes but the latter avoids eye contacts. It concerns Ink because it usually means dishonesty.

"There is no choice." Geno finally said as tears began forming on his eye again. This confuses the creator.

Geno was disappointed upon sensing the other's confusion. He thought Ink would understand. Or maybe because he didn't explain it well. Geno took a shaky breath.

"I'm a mortal. Reaper's a god. We can't be together." Geno's voice trembled as well as his lips at the thought of rejecting the god of death after all he'd done for him.

Realization dawned on Ink and Reaper as they remembers that Geno doesn't know he's not a mortal anymore.

While Sans was filled with hope. He was a bit worried that Geno didn't understand their situation since he doesn't have enough time to explain it during his confession. Thanks to that bastard who cut off both of his arms.

Meanwhile, Reaper was mildly nervous. From the corner of his eye, he could see Sans' smug smirk. But he's not worried. Anytime now, Ink would tell Geno the truth.

"Listen to me," Ink began as Reaper eagerly anticipating his next words. Geno looked up with watery eye. "For once in your life, I want you to be selfish." Ink said sternly as he fixed his gaze straight into Geno's eyes.

"B-but-"

"It doesn't matter. What matters is what you want. Who do you really want to be with?" Ink continued.

"Listen to your heart." Ink added. Which only made Geno grew even more confused. He just decided a few minutes ago that he'll never let his feelings get the best of his mind. Now, Ink was telling him to listen to his heart?

"I- I, I don't understand." Geno mumbled.

Ink sighed. "I'm not asking you to make the right decision. Because there is no right or wrong. The only thing there is your happiness. I want- We want you to be happy. Choose whoever you're happy with. Not who you think is right or better." Ink explained and Reaper was greatly disappointed to not hear the words he was expecting the creator would say.

But none the less, Geno seemed like he finally understood.

"Stop thinking about others. It's time for you to think about yourself." Ink added softly. Geno gave a small nod.

Ink formed a small smile and briefly hugged Geno. He turned to Frisk and asked the human child to stay with Geno before standing up and going back to the living room.

Reaper and Sans immediately teleported to their initial positions when they saw Ink coming. Pretending to not know anything about their conversation.

As much as Reaper wanted to talk to Ink, he can't. Sans was right there and he didn't want him to know about it.

Reaper grew even more nervous and he hates it. He hates it when he can't predict what would happen.

Meanwhile, Sans was a lot more calmer and hopeful. He was confident that Geno would stick to the rules. No matter what Ink says because Geno was righteous. Geno was willing to sacrifice everything as long as he's doing the right thing. Just like what he did in every genocides.

He's not guaranteed that Geno will choose him but he knows he got an advantage.

A sudden thought hit Sans, 'what if Geno chooses Reaper?'

Sans would go insane.
