Chapter 15: Here Comes Trouble

Third POV

Geno wasn't really expecting it to work. He had tried many times summoning the reset button outside the save screen but it never worked. Until now.

Why now? What's the difference between then and now?

Questions. Lots of them. Whirling around Geno's mind. It doesn't make any sense.

Geno looked up at the two gods in front of him. Reaper was still in the state of shock and Ink was... frowning?

Why was he frowning? Is something wrong? Geno thought worriedly as his gaze went back and forth between the creator and the transparent panel hovering in front of him.

Anxiety starts growing inside Geno. "I-Ink? Is... Is everything okay?" Geno stuttered as he fiddled with his fingers.

The creator seemed to snapped out of his thoughts and looked at Geno to see his mildly scared expression. Ink concluded that it was his silence that makes Geno nervous.

So he smiled. "Yeah. Don't worry, everything's fine." Ink replied. Reaper side glance at him, obviously not buying it. But at least it made Geno a bit calm. Though the bad feeling still lingers.

"That's it, for now. We'll test it some other time." Ink said and watched as the golden glow on Geno's soul slowly fades and the 'reset button' disappeared at the same time. "Resets doesn't work here so we need to go somewhere else-" Ink was suddenly cut off.

"Hold up, Ink. It's still dark out there and Geno needs rest. We can continue this 'experiment' some other time." Reaper said as he stood in front of Ink with a disapproving frown on his face.

"I was going to say that. Alright," Ink began as he let go of Geno's soul. It flew straight to Geno and it was absorbed inside his body. "Geno, you can go back to bed now." The creator declared like a mother to a child.

"What?! No! I'm not going back to bed." Geno stubbornly said and Reaper immediately knew why. It was most probably because of the nightmare.

Ink opened his mouth to say something against it but Reaper beat him to it.

"Alright, alright. You're not going back to bed." The grim reaper agreed. Geno's composure faltered. He was actually expecting Reaper to drag him to bed or something like that. Not agree with his stubbornness.

"Besides," the grim reaper began as he twisted to face Ink. "He deserves to know what's going on, right?" Reaper said in a slightly threatening voice, though barely noticeable.

Geno furrowed his 'brows' in confusion before remembering the questions that lingers in his thoughts earlier.

Ink's expression became serious as he looked at Reaper straight in the eyes. "There's a right time and place for everything, Reaper. I don't think he's ready to know." Ink responded firmly.

"You can tell me then." Reaper countered and both gods turned to Geno again.

Geno already knew what they wanted him to do. Leave. So they can have their private conversation. It's okay, though. Plus, he trusted Ink. If Ink says he's not ready then maybe it's true.

"I'll be in the kitchen. Maybe make some breakfast or something." Geno stated and walked away.

"Careful with the knife, babe~" Reaper called. He smiled remembering how good Geno's cooking was and he can't wait to taste it again. The mere thought of it makes him hungry. But first...

"Start talking." Reaper ordered as soon as Geno disappeared into the kitchen.

It might come off as a little rude to others but knowing Reaper, it's the most predictable thing he'll say. Especially if it's about Geno.

"Where do you want me to start?" the creator asked.

"Why'd you lie when you said everything's fine?" Reaper questioned as he narrowed his eyes.

"It's not a lie. Everything is fine. What I'm worried about is how will Geno take it." Ink said as he place a hand on his hip.

"How will he take what?" Reaper echoed, growing even more suspicious.

"The fact that he's not a mortal anymore." Ink said and watched the grim reaper's expression slowly morphed into shocked as realization dawned on him. He was silent for a few second. Trying to absorb the new piece of information.

"Y-you mean, he's..." Reaper trailed off. His eyes wide with disbelief and soul pounding against his ribs.

"He's a god now." Ink finished for him

Holy sh*t!

Reaper's mind went blank. The fact was unbelievable. He had been hoping, praying, for the impossible to happen for a very long time. And now it finally came true.

His prayers had been answered.

Reaper felt tears of happiness form on the brim of his eye sockets. He feels like the massive weight was lifted off his chest. He rested his face against his hands as if he was bowing to Ink in utter gratefulness.

Ink place a comforting hands on Reaper's shoulders. He knew Reaper would react this way. Reaper loved Geno but the relationship between a god and a mortal was forbidden. But now, nothing stands in their way.

But Ink still worries how will Geno react.

Suddenly, Reaper turned and was about to run to the kitchen with tear stained face but Ink grab his arm.

"Wait! Don't tell him!" The creator immediately whispered a yell. Reaper turned back to him though he didn't utter a word. "He's not ready to know yet." Ink reminded him.

Reaper understands and nodded. Ink let him go and he dashes to the kitchen with an insanely wide smile plastered on his face.

"Geno!" He called out but as he entered the kitchen, expecting Geno to be in front of the stove.

But it was empty.

His smile faltered as he looked around just in case he missed him.

But no. The kitchen was empty and eerily quiet. Fear starts growing inside him, clawing it's way to the surface. Terrible thoughts began popping in his mind but he pushed them aside.

Don't panic, he told himself. Geno was probably around the house. Maybe he teleported somewhere? Reaper assured himself.

"Geno?" Reaper called out once again. No response. Reaper doesn't like this.

Reaper ran to the back door and hurriedly opened it. Cold breeze hit him and darkness met his vision but he didn't care as he stepped out of the house which was surrounded by dead trees covered in thick fog.

"Geno?"

Still nothing. Growing anxious, Reaper began frantically teleporting from place to place. To every spot they've been on this universe. To every room in his house.

But nothing. Geno was gone. Missing.

No. NO! This is not real. This can't be happening.

Just as when his prayers was answered, someone took Geno away. Why must there be always a hindrance between him and Geno.

Why must there be always someone who was against their relationship?

Who cares about them? A small voice from the back of Reaper's mind said and he realized something.

He doesn't care. He doesn't care what they say and what they want. He doesn't care if they hate him or not. For goodness sake, he's the god of death. He could just kill them if he wanted to and no one could do a thing about it. Why was he afraid of them?

He doesn't care about anybody but Geno. Because Geno was the only one who can bring out the best in him. The only one who treats him like real person and not just some cold and heartless killing machine.

Whoever dare take Geno away, Reaper would gladly eliminate them. Whether they're a mortal, a god or an anomaly. Reaper would not hesitate.

They're the one who should fear him. He's the god of death and he will bring death upon those who deserves it.

"Reaper!"

A familiar voice call from behind the said grim reaper and he twisted his body to see Ink running towards him.

"I think I know where he is." The creator said as soon as he was close enough and showed Reaper a small rectangular item.

Reaper's phone.

In an instant, he knew where to go.

He ripped a portal through Undertale and immediately heard a painfully familiar voice calling for help. Reaper felt his 'blood' ran cold.

"Geno!!" Reaper called back and quickly jumped in followed by Ink.

~~~Earlier with Geno~~~
Geno walked into the kitchen and automatically went over to the fridge to look for something to cook. Sadly, the fridge was empty. Gods doesn't necessarily eat, he reminded himself, so it shouldn't have been a surprise.
He signed and went to open the cupboards to see if there's something -anything- but still nothing. Maybe he could buy some groceries but then again, gods don't need to eat so it might just go to waste.
But what about him? Geno asked himself. To be honest, ever since he came here, he never felt hungry. Maybe because of this universe, it's a god's realm after all.
Or maybe because he's been overly depressed to think about food. He's been crying a lot lately due to Reaper's therapy.
He shook his head when he remembered Reaper's comforting words. Such soft and caring words always made him cry and crying worries Reaper so no.
He took a deep breath to calm himself. Nope. He's not gonna cry. He gained his composure and once again looked around the kitchen.
Then he noticed an item that seems to be out of place. It was Reaper's phone carelessly thrown on the counter. Something was nagging him from the back of his mind. Something important and it has something to do with that phone.
Does he need to call someone- oh. Oh! *facepalm*
He totally forgot about Frisk! And Sans! They probably thought Reaper attacked him.
Geno remembered that he died and his original soul merged back with Sans'.
Oh fuck. They probably thought he's dead! Things just got even worse. He grab the phone and was about to ask for Reaper's permission but seeing the two gods looking so serious and talking about something he's not ready to know, Geno thinks it's a bad idea to interrupt.
Maybe Reaper wouldn't mind. It's not like he's gonna go through all the personal things Reaper had in his phone. He's just gonna make a call.
So Geno went back inside the kitchen and turned the phone on. As soon as it turned on, Geno immediately noticed the hundreds of unread texts and missed calls from his own phone.
Shiiit!
He tapped the mail icon and read the messages. He blanched once he read a few of them. The messages contains string of curses and swears, a lot of death threats, and demands to give him back.
It was Sans. He knew it because Frisk doesn't swear. And he seems... Murderous.
Fuck! Could it get any worse?
Maybe he should send a text first. Receiving a call from someone whom they thought was dead might be... a little too much. A text should be tame enough.
With that in mind, he began typing. Introducing himself and saying that he's alive and everything's okay. Send. That should be enough for now, he should just wait for a reply-
He jumped a little when the phone abruptly buzzed after a few seconds. A call from his own phone. That was quick. He didn't think Sans or Frisk will be awake at this time. It's still a couple of hours until the sun rise.
Accept. "Hello?" Geno said in a hushed voice, not wanting Reaper to hear him or fuck there's going to be a bloody war.
"Geno?" Sans answered from the other line. He sounded shocked and there's heavy breathing in the background. "Is that really you?" he asked in disbelief.
"Yeah, it's me. Listen, it's a little complicated but - " Geno was cut off when Sans bombarded him with questions.
"Are you okay?! Where are you? Is that bastard with you right now?! Geno, get away from him!" Sans screamed through the phone. Panic and worry dripping from his voice.
"Sans! Just calm down! I'm okay!" Geno whispered a yell. "And it's not Reaper." he added.
"It's not Reaper what?"
"He didn't attacked me. It was someone else posing as him. Reaper was actually the one who saved me." Geno briefly explained.
There was a few seconds of silence from the other line before Sans talked. "Are you really Geno?" Sans doesn't seem convinced.
Geno was mildly startled even though he knew it was coming. "Of course, I am."
"Prove it." Came the immediate reply.
Geno groaned. "Fine. Where are you?"
"In my house. Living room." Sans said monotonously.
Geno hang up and was about to create a portal when Reaper suddenly crossed his mind. He went to check the two gods only to see Reaper's shaking shoulders and Ink's soft expression. Things seemed pretty serious there as well.
But he'll only be gone for at least five minutes. Maybe Reaper wouldn't notice a thing. Maybe.
But he needs to calm Sans first. Because he knows how it feels to lose someone. Determined, Geno opened a portal and stepped through.
To be continued....
