Chapter 29: Singing
Sorry for all the videos. They're the songs in this chapter. The one above is the first song played. All rights of the songs go to Twenty One Pilots Also, in the picture, is how I imagine Nico looking like. Yes, tattoos and everything, though I have different tattoos in my mind, but anyways. You can't see his lips, but I imagine him with a (black) lip ring, also, his hair is more like Dan Howell's, but shaggier. So, yeah.
5 Months Later and Nico POV
I sat with my knees to my chest, trying to keep the tears from falling. I messed up again. It's been a year and some since Will and I became official. We were doing so well. And I just had to go and ruin it. Will and I got into a huge fight, again. He was mad at how closed off I am. I defended myself, and the argument escalated, until we were yelling. I really was trying, so hard, to be more open. I remembered the walls Will had knocked down so easily, and can't help but think about about why I built them. Maybe I'm selfish for it, but it was to avoid something like this. So I wouldn't get hurt, and neither would anyone else. I grabbed the IPod next to me, and made as if to throw it, but instead shakily unlocked it, hitting my Twenty One Pilots playlist and pressing shuffle. Run and Go came on, and the tears slipped past my lashes, that had acted as prison bars to them for so long. I got lost in the song, that fit the argument with Will perfectly. As the song got to the midway point, I whispered the words Tyler sang clearly and unafraid. "Tonight, I need you to stay," A familiar voice spoke next to me, and I whirled. "Of course I'll stay. I'll never leave." I buried my face in Will's chest, apologizing repeatedly. Will smiled gently, "It's OK sunshine." I realized I was in the middle of the cabin, though I'm not sure how I got there. The song came to an end, and with the gravely half-yelling voice of Tyler saying; "Tonight, I need you to stay!" There was a beat of silence, before Trees began to play, and I bit my lip, before beginning to sing uncertainly. "I know, where you stand, silent in the trees." Will looked at me, but I closed my eyes and kept going.

Will POV
Nico kept singing, his voice hesitant, but spectacular, even better than some of my siblings. "I can feel your breath. I can feel my death. I want to know you, I want to see, I want to say, hello. Hello." His voice became more confident and then his hands began to move. I backed up, sitting on his be, and watched. His eyes were closed, and I don't think he realized what he was doing, as he got more and more into the music. "I want to say, hello!" I finally realized what he was doing! He was signing! The song changed, and Nico nibbled on his lip, eyes opening before jumping into rap. Holding Onto You below "I'm taking over my body, back in control. No more shotty, I bet a lot of me was lost, t's uncrossed and i's undotted, I fought it a lot, and it seems a lot like flesh is all I got, not anymore, flesh out the door. Swat!" I grinned. "I must've forgot, you can't trust me! I'm open a moment and close when you show it, before you know it, I'm lost at sea." I smiled sadly, thinking about our recent fight. ". . . . You should take my life, you should take my soul." He heaved a breath and continuing. "You are surrounding, all my surroundings. Sounding down the mountain range, of my left side brain. You are surrounding, all my surroundings, twisting the kaleidoscope, behind both of my eyes. And I'll be holding onto you!" When he was signing and not singing, his hands moved as if he was playing the keyboard, and drums, then he took another breath before rapping again. "Remember the moment, you know exactly where you're going, 'cause the next moment before you know it, time is slowing, and it's frozen still, and the window sill looks really nice, right? You think twice about your life. It probably happens at night, right? Fight it! Take the pain, ignite it! Tie a noose around your mind, loose enough to breathe fine and tie it! To a tree, tell it 'you belong to me! This ain't a noose, this is a leash, and I have news for you, you must obey me!' You are surrounding, all my surroundings, sounding down the mountain range of my left sand brain! You are surrounding, all my surroundings, twisting the kaleidoscope, behind both of my eyes!" He took a deep breath before singing, and my jaw went slack at the high pitchness, yet he hit it perfectly. "Entertain my faith," This repeated, and even as he kept singing, his hands would mime playing instruments, and his body moved with the beat.
Nico rapped the rest of the song, and I shook my head in amazement. I didn't know he could rap, much less sing, until today. But I'm glad I do. Now, the only question is how to get him to sing at the campfire. . . . "And I'll be holding onto you!" The song ended and Nico opened his eyes. He blinked, before focusing on me. I got up, and walked over to him, as the next song started, but Nico made no move to sing or sign. "I-" He started, but I cut him off with a short kiss. Nico tried to keep it going, but I pulled away, standing up fully, disconnecting our lips. Even on tip-toes, he's to small. I chuckled as he turned red. But my stomach was fluttering. Even after a year, we're still flustered by each other, and he's still getting used to physical contact. I swallowed, guilt settling in, about our fight. We moved as one, and I engulfed him in my arms, resting my forearms on his hips. his own arms wrapped around my waist. His cheek was pressed to my shoulder, and I could feel the coldness through my shirt. I shivered as his freezing nose brushed my Adam's apple, his warm breath fanning my neck. I looked down, and looked at his pale sculpted face, eyes closed. I leaned my neck down, pressing my cheek to his chilly forehead. "I love you." I felt his arms tighten, before he replied. "I love you too." "Where'd you learn to sign?" I asked quietly, and felt Nico tense. "Bianca and I-we learned it in the Lotus Casino. It was so loud, and hard to communicate, so we learned ASL, American sign language so it would be easier to communicate." "Cool." He just shrugged. "You have an incredible voice you know. Better than most of my siblings. And me for sure." He laughed, blushing lightly. "Thanks." The song changed again, and Nico started to sing.
"I know what you think in the morning
When the sun shines on the ground,
And shows what you have done
It shows where your mind has gone.
And you swearing to your parents,
That it will never happen again,
I know, I know oh oh, what that means, I know oh oh oh
That you all have guns!
And you never put the safety on
And you all have plans,
To take it, to take it, don't take it, take it, take it!
I'm trying, I'm trying to sleep
I'm trying, I'm trying to sleep
But I can't, but I can't when you all have
Guns for hands yeah,
I'm trying, I'm trying to sleep
I'm trying, I'm trying to sleep
But I can't, but I can't when you all have
Guns for hands yeah,
Let's take this a second at a time
Let's take this one song, this one rhyme,
Together, let's breathe
Together, to the beat
But there's hope out the window,
So that's where we'll go!
Let's go outside and all join hands,
But until then you'll never understand,
That you all have guns!
And you never put the safety on,
And you all have plans
To take it, to take it, don't take it, take it, take it!
I'm trying, I'm trying to sleep,
I'm trying, I'm trying to sleep,
But I can't, but I can't when you all have
Guns for hands yeah,"
"Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey!" (x2)
I watched in fascination, as I backed away to see him sign again, and this time, he jumped right in, and it was obvious he knew what he was doing. Maybe it came easy, since he's Italian, and they talk with their hands a lot. . . . No offense, plus I'm Jewish and make that joke (joke that Jews talk with their hands a lot too), and I'm learning ASL in school His body moved with the rhythm, and his facial expressions matched perfectly. His signs also portrayed the meaning of the song, not just what the words were. The speed of which he signed when rapping was hypnotic, and you could feel the anguish and emotion.
"La da da da da (x4)
We've turned our hands to guns, trade in our thumbs for ammunition,
I must forewarn ya, of my disorder, or my condition!
'Cause when the sun sets, it upsets what's left of my invested interest
Interested in putting my fingers to my head!
The solution is, I see a whole room of these mutant kids,
Fused at the wrist, I simply tell them they should shoot at this,
Simply suggest my chest and this confused music, it's
Obviously best for them to turn their guns to a fist!"
His hands moved to playing a keyboard, and then drums, and the bass, all the instruments heard.
"I'm trying, I'm trying to sleep!
I'm trying, I'm trying to sleep
But I can't, but I can't when you all have,
Guns for hands!
I'm trying, I'm trying to sleep
I'm trying, I'm trying to sleep
But I can't, but I can't when you all have,
Guns for hands, yeah." I give up. I was trying to make the verses single space, but NOPE! I GIVE UP!
His chest moved up and down when he finished, and a giant smile bloomed across his face. "Honestly, Sunshine, when I first heard you rap," I trailed off, my mouth curving up on one side, and he flushed as I walked back over. "I can rap a harder one, if you want." I raised my eyebrows, before nodding. He walked over to his IPod that I bought him, and looked. His pale yet pink lips lifted, as he found one. "Ready?" I nodded and he snickered. "Try and keep up," He winked.
"There's an infestation in my mind's imagination,
I hope they choke on smoke cause I'm smoking them out the basement
This is not rap, this is not hip-hop
Just another attempt to make the voices stop,
Rapping to prove nothing, just writing to say something
'Cause I wasn't the only one who wasn't rushing to say nothing
This doesn't mean, I lost my dream,
It's just right now I got a really crazy mind to clean!
Gangsters don't cry
Therefore, therefore I'm
Mr. Misty-eye, therefore I'm-
Can you save
Can you save my
Can you save my heavy dirty soul? (x2)
For me, for me, oh (x4)
No, I didn't understand the thing you said!
If I didn't know better, I guess you're all already dead,
Mindless zombies walking around with a limp and a hunch,
Saying stuff like, 'You only live once,' "
I just snorted in laughter, but he ignored me and kept rapping.
"-You got one time to figure it out
One time to twist and one time to shout!
One time to think and I say we start now,
Sing with me if you know what I'm talking about!
Gangsters don't cry
Therefore, therefore I'm,
Mr. Misty-eye, therefore I'm-
Can you save
Can you save my
Can you save my heavy dirty soul?(x2)
For me, for me, oh (x4)
Death inspires me like a dog, inspires a rabbit (x2)
Can you save
Can you save my
Can you save my heavy dirty soul?(x2)
For me, for me, oh, (x4)
Can you save
Can you save my, save my
Can you save my heavy dirty soul? (x2)."
My jaw dropped, as he just looked at me with a smug expression. "Why, you showoff!!" I shouted as I pounced, grabbing him, and threw him on his bed as he laughed. I straddled him holding his wrists by his head in one hand, before bringing my hands trailing down his side, and tickling him. He shrieked, struggling under me as he laughed uncontrollably. "You're to talented to be real!" He just laughed, gasping as I continued my assault on his sides. His hands were free, but he was laughing to hard for them to be any use. "I-I can r-rap and sin-g and p-play the bas-s too!"He managed. I play the electric bass, and sing. I want to learn to rap, but I doubt I'll ever be able to rap Heavydirtysoul I rolled my eyes. "Of course you can!" He just giggled. I stopped tickling, and slid off of him, lying next to his body, his chest moving up and down as he tried to catch his breath. He stuck his tongue out at me, but I just laughed. He pushed me onto my back, before crawling onto my onto my chest, and laying there splayed. I laughed, arms wrapping around his waist, nuzzling my face into his hair, which smelled like pomegranates. The music continued playing, and I could hear him tiredly sing and rap, until his voice sputtered out, as sleep overtook him. I kissed the top of his head. "Showoff." I muttered, before I too, fell asleep.
