Chapter 8 - Secret Admirer
Next morning Harry woke up early and got dressed before going down to the common room.
The common room was crowded. Harry was not surprised. There are so many students this year that Harry wondered if the castle was big enough. Of course Hermione knew it was big enough.
"The castle is enchanted to look this size. It is most likely bigger or more rooms could have been magically added to accommodate the extra students." Hermione had said when Harry wondered it aloud.
They had gone down for breakfast. Ron already had a mouthful of toast when the owl post arrived. Hundreds of owls swooped down and dropped letters and parcels for students. Almost everyone got something.
Harry looked up at the Owls flying half expecting to see Hedwig swoop down. He barely noticed that an owl landed on either side of him for Ron and Hermione.
Hermione got her copy of the usual Daily profit and Ron got a parcel.
"Who is that from?" Harry asked.
"Did you forget something at home?" Hermione asked, leaning forward to see the parcel.
"No idea, there is no name." Ron said, turning it in all directions looking for a clue.
"I'll just open it." He said, impatiently ripping open the package. It was a wooden box with Ron's name on it. It was beautifully carved on the sides and had a picture of Ron on the top. It seemed to have been taken from the daily profit and Harry and Hermione had been cut out of the picture.
"Er.... I think you have a fan, Ron." Harry said. Ron was grinning eye to eye.
"Brilliant!" He said happily.
"Let me see that!" Hermione said, going over to him and pulling the box towards her. She then tapped the box, muttering a series of spells but nothing happened. She frowned.
"It's just a box from a fan, Hermione." Ron said, laughing at her confused face. "Nothing dangerous can get past these walls while McGonagall is Headmistress here."
He pulled the box back to him and opened it. It was filled with newspaper clippings of Harry, Ron and Hermione after the battle of Hogwarts. Under the lid was another picture of Ron, with the words 'Hero' under it.
"This cannot be good." Ron said, picking up a newspaper clipping. Harry and Hermione's faces had been burnt off and any mention of their name would have a hole in the paper.
"Whoever this is, is more than just a fan." Hermione said seriously, her eyes fixed on the box.
They were so caught up with Ron's mysterious fan that Harry did not notice the barn owl waiting for him next to his porridge. The owl took off immediately after he untied the letter.
"It's from Hagrid." Harry said, ripping it open immediately.
"Fancy a visit after classes today?" Harry asked while reading Hagrid's letter. They both nodded.
Quickly collecting their time tables they rushed for their first class of the day. Double potions with the Slytherins.
Most of the Slytherins ignored Harry, Ron and Hermione when they entered the classroom. Malfoy gave them a nod of acknowledgement and went to the back.
Professor Slughorn greeted Harry very enthusiastically before starting the class. "The three of you must join me for dinner tomorrow night. I have some people who would love to meet you."
Not sure how to refused, they nodded and went to find seats. Then they took the last row seats and dissolved into a discussion about Ron's mystery fan.
"What if it's a Student?" Hermione whispered urgently. "We need to keep an eye out. She is obviously very protective of you, Ron. See what she did to anything related to Harry and me in the paper."
Ron on the other hand was very calm. He had an odd look on his face as he listened to Hermione but continued with his portion without hesitation.
"This is just regular fan mail, Hermione." Ron said. "Harry used to get them all the time. Now that I'm famous, I'm going to get it too. You will get some too! Don't worry."
"Don't worry? You think I'm jealous?" Hermione looking outraged.
Harry just rolled his eyes. He was used to them bickering. He just turned away from the conversation and noticed that Malfoy was sitting a short distance away. He was alone, quietly stirring his cauldron.

Draco Malfoy once used to walk down the corridors with his head held high. He was a proud and arrogant boy and always had people look up to him. His best friends were Crabbe and Goyle. They were stupid and big and would follow Malfoy everywhere.
Few months ago, everything changed. The battle at Hogwarts made him realize his views on wizards were wrong. Blood statuses did not matter. His family had been supporting the wrong side.
Few months ago he lost his friend Crabbe. Malfoyblamed himself. If he had maintained control of his friends, maybe Crabbe wouldstill be alive. That's why he accepted the Hogwarts letter to come back andfinish his final year.
Being back was nothing like what he thought it would be like. Everyone hated the Slytherins. Even the Slytherins kept their distance from him. They called him 'double crosser' because he changed sides during the war.
However, Malfoy was not completely alone. He had Pansy Parkinson and Blaise Zabini. Pansy Parkinson has always admired Malfoy. They had been friends since their first year. But she was one of the few people who hadn't changed at all since the war. She just learnt to hide it better.
Malfoy kept his head down all morning. He was in no mood to have another confrontation.
Last night, after the feast. Malfoy was cornered by a few Slytherins.
"So, Malfoy. You have some nerve coming back here like nothing happened last year." said a fifth year, Malfoy had never spoken to before.
"I don't know what you mean." Malfoy said, trying to push past them.
"See? He still cannot decide whose side he is on." said Leslie Thompson. She a pale, blond girl in Malfoy's class.
Malfoy did not say anything. He was thinking hard. Were they still supporting the dark side? Or were they testing him to make sure he was really back from the dark side.
Unwilling to take the risk of finding out and getting beaten up that night, Malfoy pulled out his wand. The sudden movements made one of the Slytherins move, he took that chance and slipped through the gap and ran hard in random directions.
That decision was worse than dealing with the Slytherins. He came face to face with a young boy wearing Gryffindor robes. He looked like a first year but was tall for his age. Malfoy recognised him immediately.
"So we meet again." said the boy pushing back his blond hair.
"What do you want Terrence" Malfoy asked through gritted teeth.
"My father tried getting in touch with yours earlier in the summer." Terrence said.
"So?" Malfoy asked casually putting his hands in his pocket.
"You have been avoiding us." Terrence said putting his hands into his pocket too.
They stared at each other for a moment and then both pulled out their wands at the same time. There was a loud bang, Terrence's spell hit the suit of armour and Malfoy's spell knocked Terrence down.
"Stay away from me." Malfoy yelled at him, suddenly he noticed a crowd of students watching. Harry, Ron and Hermione were in the front. Malfoy stared in horror for a moment and then ran back to the Slytherin common room.
