Chapter 14 - The other 'Conner'
"What do you want." Terrence asked. He looked surprised when Harry and Ron suddenly came over to him to talk.
"Privately." Harry repeated. Ron stood beside him with a grim look on his face.
With a sigh, Terrence got up and they left the Great hall.
"What is this about?" Terrence asked again as they entered an empty classroom.
"That is what I would like to know." Harry said, crossing his arms in front of his chest.
"I don't know what you are talking about." Terrence said innocently.
"Come off it!" Ron busted out. "Why do you keep staring at us."
Terrence laughed. "Being famous make you paranoid I guess." Ron's ears went red.
"Who is Lisa conner?" Ron said.
The look on Terrence's face changed completely. He looked like an older boy who was very miserable.
"What's it to you." He asked.
Ron pulled out the envelop he received that morning from the snowy white owl and gave it to Terrence.
My dearest Ron,
I'm so glad you wrote back. I was afraid I was too forward when I sent you my collection of newspaper clippings. I know I have not introduced myself to you yet. I am Lisa Conner and you saved my life along with the rest of the wizarding world.
I don't know how else to thank you except to send you these gifts, I hope you like them, especially the Horn of Garuna. It took me a long time to find such a beauty and I could think of no one more deserving than you.
If I can ever be of service to you in any way don't forget I am only an owl away.
Lots of love,
Lisa Conner
"Lisa Conner" Terrence read out again, eyes fixed on the paper. "But that's not possible."
"Who is she." Harry asked.
"My sister." Terrence said "She died last year."
Harry and Ron looked at each other more confused than ever, not sure what to say next.
"So how could she have sent this?" Ron asked.
"She can't have! she is dead, we had a funeral and everything!!" Terrence said.
"Maybe she faked her death?" Ron suggested turning to Harry.
"Maybe. But that still does not explain what she wants with you." Harry said thinking hard.
"She is dead." Terrence said firmly.
"How can you be sure." Ron asked a little too forcefully.
"I saw her die." Terrence blurted out angrily. All the emotions he had been trying to hide away since his mother died came flooding back and he slammed his hand in the table to stop himself from crying.
"Why would anyone write a letter pretending to be your sister?" said Ron. Terrence shook his head, looking at the floor.
"Do you have any enemies?" Harry asked and Terrence shook his head again.
"How did your sister die?" Ron said suddenly. Terrence did not answer immediately. He began to pace the room.
"She was sick. An illness took her." He answered.
"I'm so sorry." Harry said softly. Then there was silence for a while, each one figuring out what to say next.
"Malfoy." Terrence said suddenly.
"What about him?" Harry asked.
"He could be behind this." Terrence said. "Not a lot of people knew Lisa but the Malfoy family did."
"How do you know the Malfoys?" said Harry. He was finally going to know why Malfoy was afraid of Terrence.
Terrence did not look comfortable. He opened and closed his mouth a few times before he told them.
"We lived close by."
"You live close to the Malfoy manor?" Ron repeated. "I thought you were a muggleborn and that's why you couldn't attend Hogwarts last year."
"My father is a muggle. Mom a witch." Terrence said. "We were in hiding all last year and it's all because of the Malfoys." Terrence looked angry but he kept his voice steady.
Suddenly Ron let out a funny noise because Professor Binns had floated straight through the door and right into him.
"Sorry Mr Weatherby, I did not see you there." Professor Binns said in a bored voice as he went towards his desk.
"We practically save the entire wizarding world and he still doesn't know my name." Ron mumbled as they left the classroom, battling the crowd of students making their way towards class.
"Where did Terrence go?" Harry said looking around for Terrence but Ron was distracted.
"You need to tell Hermione that she was right about the crazy fan theory." He said grimly.
"You tell her yourself." Harry said "tell her why you did it too." Ron looked at Harry, confused.
"What do you mean?"
"You just wanted to know who she was right? Just tell her that. I'm sure she can't blame you for being curious." Harry said as they made their way to transfiguration.
Professor McGonagal was already at her desk as the students filed into the class. Hermione hadn't arrived yet.
"Where is Hermione?" Ron hissed at Harry as they settled down at he back of the classroom. Harry just shook his head.
"Turn to page 221, today we are going to learn about....." McGonagal began the class in an unusually boring tone. She seemed tired and did not tell off Seamus for already setting his quill on fire.
"Was she really so upset about the fan thing?" Ron said, frowning and flipping pages of his textbook roughly.
"She is probably in the library. Let's go after class and see her." Harry suggested then turning his attention back to McGonagal. Harry hadn't spoken to her since the day of the quidditch tryouts. She hadn't told him anything either. Harry assumed she would do something about it until he found out that the matches would be starting in a few weeks.
This means there wouldn't be enough time for the new team to build strategy. Carter has been looking very smug as he paraded his new team to the pitch every Wednesday and Friday evening.
He would even make loud comments how this team would be better than the previous team because their new captain actually knew how to play quidditch.
Most of the Gryffindors did not like the attitude but the others cheered on the new members.
"Maybe Carter is a good captain." Harry said to Ron who snorted.
"Yea and maybe I should run for minister of magic." Ron said sarcastically.
"McGonagal cares about the team, she would have done something by now if he wasn't good." Harry pointed out. "Quidditch season is starting soon and we don't want the team without a captain."
So they waited patiently till the end of class and then went to to McGonagal to find out what she did about Carter.
"I'm sorry Potter but I kept an eye on Carter and I see no reason why he should not be captain." She said not meeting his eye.
"But professor, he nearly hurt several students who were trying out for the team." Ron piped in.
"I spoke to several eyewitnesses about the incident and it sounds like a regular quidditch match to me." McGonagal said "I did give him detention for not holding proper tryouts and for not having Madam hootch present in the case of any accidents."
Harry and Ron looked at each other. Detention? Was that going to be enough. Harry's stomach dropped, now it was official, he would not be playing for the Gryffindor team this year.
*******

Are you upset that Harry and did not make the Gryffindor team?
Do you think Hermione made the right decision to break up with Ron?
