Chapter 1 - Goblin's Pride
It's over.
This is the end.
No more running, no hiding and no more fighting.
What's next? Happily ever after?
Peacefully living in a magical society where everyone treated him like a hero?
"Harry Potter!" gasped a little girl, standing behind him in the line going into Gringotts, the wizard bank.
Harry Potter. The boy who lived. The chosen one. It's all he ever knew. What was he now?
Harry gave her a small smile, sighing internally. He wished she didn't say his name so loud, now people began to stare and point at him. Shifting his weight from one leg to another he waited for his turn, ignoring all the whispers. He should be used to it now. Ever since he was eleven years old, when he found out he was a wizard, he was famous. Back then he had no idea why he would be so famous just for being alive. Years later, he found himself facing the wizard who killed his family. With the help of his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, Of course more people took part in saving his life, starting from his mother, who gave her life for him, to his schoolmates, his teachers, and headmaster.
So much has happened in the last few weeks, after he finally defeated Lord Voldemort. So many funerals to attend. Fred Weasley, Remus Lupin, Nymphadora Tonks and Severus Snape.... were just few of the most painful ones to attend.
Harry had been staying with the Weasleys since the war. He had no home to go to. His childhood home in Godricks Hollow had been turned into a tourist spot, where people would come to see where the boy who lived first survived the killing curse.
He never wanted to go back to the Dursleys, even though he was getting onto good terms with Dudley.
He found a nice place near the Burrow, the Weasleys were his family and he wanted to live close to them. Especially so that he could see Ginny Weasley every day.
Ginny Weasley. His beautiful and faithful redheaded girlfriend. He knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her because if they could survive the dark time of Voldemort's reign then he was confident they could survive anything.
Finally the line began to move. Security at Gringotts was at its highest, especially after Harry, Ron and Hermione broke into it a few months ago. Suddenly a goblin passing by spotted Harry and ran to the front of the line to talk to the Goblin in charge.
Suddenly everyone turned back and stared at Harry. The Goblin came rushing back "Harry Potter, please step this way."
Harry followed the goblin without fuss. He just wanted to get away from all the staring. He was led into a small room with two other goblins. They had a device called 'probe' which they used on him to check for any theft devices.
"Why only me?" Harry asked, surprised.
"Because you broke into the bank." replied a goblin, before adding under his breath "thief"
"I am not a thief." Harry said hotly. "You know full well why I did what I did"
"Did you deceive our security checks to get into a volt that wasn't yours?" A squeaky goblin asked.
"Yes, but-"
"Did you take something that did not belong to you." interrupted another goblin.
"Yes, but-"
"That makes you a thief, Mr. Potter." said the first goblin who called him a thief.
After 20 minutes of extensive security checks they finally let him go his volt. Harry got out of the cart, rubbing his arm where the probe hit him particularly hard.
He remembered the time they broke into Gringotts like it was yesterday. He could understand why they were upset with him. Three teenagers breaking into the most powerful bank in the world made headlines and tarnished the reputation of the bank.
Quickly counting his gold and pocketing it, he went back to the cart. The goblin who took him was quiet and only spoke when he asked for the key to open the vault.
Finally done with the bank, Harry stepped out into the bright sunny day. Most of Diagon alley was still under renovation. Harry went to Weasley's wizards wheezes where Ron and Hermione were.
"Harry!" Said Ron, pulling him to the side "I just got a break."
"You just got off a break!" said Hermione, irritably from the other end of the shop. They were stacking up new products on the shelves.
"Still no George?" Harry asked, looking around, hoping to see him suddenly come in from behind the back curtains.
Ron shook she head and Hermione stopped stacking boxes and came closer to them.
"He can't do this any longer, he needs to come back." Harry said.
"He is not ready, give him time." Hermione said, putting a hand on his shoulder.
"Harry is right, Hermione. George is not the only one to loose someone they love. He is not the only one who misses -" Ron said, his voice breaking before he could say Fred's name. Hermione bit her lip and did not answer.
"I am going to get us some lunch. Harry, can you take over for me?" Hermione said, before walking out of the shop.
Harry and Ron had taken responsibility of the joke shop since the war ended. George was distraught by the death of Fred and rarely left his room. His mother Molly Weasley would bring food to his room and try to make him eat, but it was his father, Arthur Weasley who put a stop to it and made him join the family at meals.
After George, Molly was the hardest to console. She clung to Fred's body until they took him away. She went into denial after the funeral, managing to convince herself that the boys played a cruel joke on her and that George was also Fred.
"Let's go back to the Burrow after lunch. Business is slow anyways." Harry said, gesturing the empty shop. Everyone must have been busy, rebuilding their lives, dint have time to joke.
"Sure." Ron said, yawning. "I am tired anyways." Harry raised an eyebrow but did not say anything. Ron was always tired these days. If it wasn't for Hermione, he would stay at home like George.
After lunch, they locked up and went to the fireplace in the back, pinching a fistful of Flow powder they took the Flow network back to the Burrow.
Harry jumped out of the fireplace, dusting his robes and looked around. Nothing changed at the Burrow, except everything.
Charlie and Percy moved back to the Burrow. Bill and Fleur would visit every other day. At the moment Arthur, Charlie and Percy were at work. George was probably still locked up in his room. Ginny was with her mother tending to the garden gnomes, keeping an eye on her and making sure Molly was okay.
Ron and Hermione joined Harry seconds later. Hermione went to see Molly immediately. Ron however turned to Harry.
"So you definitely are taking the place at The Ottery Bay?" Ron asked. Ottery Bay was a place near the Weasley home which Harry was planning to buy and make his own home. It bothered him that when he decided to propose to Ginny, he would not have a place to call home. Soon Ottery Bay would be home and he could even raise his godson Teddy there.
At the moment Teddy lived with his grandparents, Ted and Andromeda Tonks. It was mutually decided that little Teddy would live with Harry after he was older. Harry was nervous because he dint know anything about raising a child, let alone a wizard metamorphic child. He would visit the Tonks every day to see his godson.
Harry had not shared his plans about buying Ottery Bay with anyone. Molly would be very upset that Harry would be moving out. But he wanted to surprise Ginny. He only confided in his best friends Ron and Hermionie, who supported him fully.
"Its a good plan, mate." Ron said. "But you will be alone for a while."
"I think its better I stay out of everyone's way for a while." Harry said, not looking at Ron. Ron did not argue, he knew his best friend well enough not to do that. Harry blamed himself for every death since Voldemort gained power. He couldn't help it. But he vowed to make the Weasleys happy and the first step was to get out of their way of recovery.
They went to see George, who was lying on his bed, twirling a fake wand in his hand.
"Hey George, how are you feeling?" Harry asked.
"Splendid Harry." George replied sarcastically. "And the next time you ask me I will still be the same."
Obviously George did not like the fact everyone kept asking him how he was. How was someone supposed to be after they lost a twin brother who they shared every waking moment with? What was life supposed to be like when they suddenly weren't part of theirs? George had no life. He would sit in his room till it was time for meals and then he would sleep. He hasn't visited the joke shop since Fred died. He said he did not find it funny anymore and wanted to shut it down. But thanks to Harry, Ron and Hermione, the joke she did well and managed to survive in spite of nothing new displayed on the shelves for ages.
Harry looked around the room. There were two single beds, one occupied by George and the other was collecting dust. There were boxes of things that belonged to Fred that were packed and left in his bed. Nothing else in the room would be touched. George swore he would get violent if they tried to remove any trace of Fred from that room. He even left their little flat above the shop magically sealed so that nobody could enter and move anything. He never went back.
After a disappointing attempt to bring George back to normal, Harry and Ron went back to the kitchen.
Ginny and Hermione were sitting there, deep in conversation. Molly was waving her wand to magically wash the dishes and neatly arrange themselves in the cupboards.
"Hello Mrs. Weasley." said Harry. One of the soap covered plates fell out of the air and crashed into the sink.
"Harry dear!" Molly said with a big smile. Realizing she broke a plate she hastily muttered "repairo" and then said "sorry about that, you just startled me."
Harry then went up to Ginny and Hermione. They had an envelope placed on the table between them. Then Ginny saw Harry and quickly took the envelope and hid it in her pocket.
"What's up?" Harry asked, giving Ginny an enquiring look.
"Nothing" Ginny said immediately. When Harry wouldn't look away she added "later!" throwing a glance at Molly in the kitchen.
Harry nodded and turned his attention to Hermione, who was throwing Ron a dirty look for closing the shop early again.
"Hey Hermione, How are your parents?" Harry said, trying to defuse the tension between them.
Hermione's face changed at once. She was still very sad. "Well.... I brought them home and lifted the spell, but they are angry." Hermione said, sadly. "I have never seen dad so angry before." Ron put an arm around her shoulders.
Hermione had removed herself from her parent's memories last year, so that she could run away with Harry and Ron and help destroy Voldemort. They had moved to Australia so it took her a while to find them again. Now that they were back and it was safe again, Hermione told them everything. They were so confused that they dint say anything at first. Even after Hermione moved back in with them, there were moments they would forget she was in the house.
The rest of the day went on slowly. Harry slipped out once to pay for his new house and close the deal. Then Arthur and Percy came home from work.
"We managed to get away from work on time today. I swear that fellow Alfie has boogers for brains." said Arthur, taking off his coat and throwing himself on his chair.
"I have been telling the Ministry that we can't deal with amateurs at the moment. Not while we are still trying to rebuild the ministry." Percy said "perhaps you could talk to them, Harry. You know your word is now law." Percy added to Harry.
Thankfully Harry did not have to respond. They were interrupted by Molly, balancing several dishes on her wand. "Dinner is ready."
"I'll go get George." Ginny said, slipping away.
Soon everyone sat at the table. But there was no usual bustle of conversation. The only people who spoke were Arthur and Percy. Everyone else would only chime in occasionally.
Towards the end of dinner, there was a knock on the door. Charlie was back.
He had been working long hours from the day he came back to the Burrow. He was working with Gringotts to retrain the dragons that escaped and take care of the rest. It was nothing like his job in Romania but at least he was home.
Now that Charlie was back, it was time for Harry's announcement. Ron signaled Harry to tell them now.
Harry clears his throat, but nobody paid attention. Ignoring Ron rolling his eyes, he tried again, louder.
"I have something to say." Harry began nervously. All eyes were on him. "Earlier today I bought Ottery Bay, I thought it would be best if I moved by the end of this week."
Now the silence was deafening. Molly broke into sobs. "What brought this on Harry?" Arthur asked.
"Nothing particularly, I just needed to have my own place and.... Well" Harry looked at Ron for support.
"I just need a place called home." He finished.
"This is your home Harry." said Molly, wiping her tears.
"Mrs. Weasley, you have treated me like you own son, I cannot thank you enough for that. There is no one else I can call family but you all. But I hope to part of this family a different way." Harry said, holding her hand. He avoided looking at Ginny at the last part, trying not to give away his plan.
Molly nodded, burying her face in her napkin.
Ron have him a pat on the back.
Ginny just stared.
When everyone was busy, Ginny pulled Harry into her room. "What were you thinking? We need you here!"
"Trust me Gin" Harry said giving her a kiss on her forehead. "It's better that I'm gone, anyways I'm sure you can take care of them."
Ginny bit her lip, she dint say anything. Then she pulled out the folded envelope she put in her pocket earlier and handed it to Harry.
"What is this?" He asked, confused.
"Just read." Ginny replied, turning away from him so he couldn't see her expression.
