Chapter 5

Serena's POV

"Serena! Don't make me send Fletchling up there!" Yells my Mom from the kitchen. I groan and slowly sit up.
"Even though I'm Kalos Queen, and I study hard for school, I don't get to sleep late on a Saturday?" I grumble.
My Mom walks into my room, frowning, and carrying a tray.
"Kalos Queen or not, you are first and foremost my daughter, and we're busy today, so eat up." She says, placing the tray on my lap. On it, there is a bowl of cereal and Oran Berry juice in a glass. I thank her sleepily, and get out of bed to feed Braixen, Pancham and Sylveon. They stir in their curled up position as I pick up their individual packets of Pokemon food. While they wake up, I look up at the sunny sky from outside my window, and a soft breeze blows my hair across my face. I smile, enjoying the simple moment.

After eating my breakfast, I get changed into my long red jacket over my white top with pink under dress and long black socks, and, most importantly, my blue ribbon. Ash's first gift to me. While I'm brushing my hair, I see a blond head running across our driveway. Curious, I creep downstairs and hide on the first top stairs just as the doorbell rings. My Mom opens the door.
"Hey, Ms. Yvonne. Is Serena here?" A young male voice talks to her.
"Oh, hello, Calem. Yes, I'll go and get her now." Mom replies, and gestures for him to come in. He sits down on our black leather recliner.
"Serena?" Mom calls, as I dash back into my room.
"Yeah?"
"Calem's in the living room. Just thought you'd want to say hi. I'm not sure why he's here though..." She explains. I nod, and head down.

"Hey, Serena!" He waves. I wave back, and lead him into the kitchen.
"Hiya. What are you doing here, Calem?" I ask, sipping my Oran Berry juice self-consciencely. He smiles at me, looking embarrassed.
"Well... It's just... Would you come to the School Prom with me?" He gabbles, turning from a light shade of pink to a fiery shade of red.
WHAT?! I think to myself, nearly dropping my glass. I don't want to turn down one of my best friends, especially Calem, who's helped me with some really big problems. But, what about Ash? What if he asks me? I just confessed to him, and it would break his heart if I rejected him. The one I've loved for more than 7 years.

"Uh, well... I'm kinda busy that day, sorry." I frantically try to think of an excuse.
"Where?" He enquires. I gulp.
"Huge... Performance! At, um... Hoenn! Yeah, a huge performance at the Hoenn region." I say nervously. He looks crestfallen, but masks a fine expression.
"Oh, okay. Maybe next time?"
"Yeah, maybe..."

He turns to leave, and I lean against the marble breakfast bar. He looks at me, still mastering the fake look on his face, and shuts the door, slowly walking on our drive.

Ash's POV

As I walk to Serena's, I see a boy, around my age, walking from her door. Who's he, and what's he doing there? He catches my eye, and glares. I look back, confused. He walks straight up to me.
"Are you the famous Ash Serena talks about all the time at school? Well?! Are you?!" He yells in my face. I back off a few steps, shocked. Wait, Serena talks about me?
"Uh, yeah." I reply. He nods, still eyeballing me.
"Good. Lemme tell ya something, bro. Don't interfere with me and Serena. Okay? I was just asking her out to Prom, and rejected because she apparently had a "huge performance in Hoenn" to go to that day. I don't believe her, and it probably has somthing to do with you!" He shouts, pacing further away from her house.
I follow him, with an angry look on my face.
"Listen, I-" I start.
"No, you listen! Me and Serena were best friends 'till you showed up again. She used to talk to me all the time, now she texts you 95% of that time. I like her, and you're taking Serena away from me!" He thunders. I'm taken aback by what he just said.

Him and Serena?
Taking her away?

"You know what?! I'm done! I like Serena and she likes me back. We're not in a relationship, but that doesn't mean I'm not in love with her, okay?!" I yell. Calem looks furious, and has got his fists clenched, as well as his teeth.

He walks away silently. I look at him, my emotions mixed. Then I remember the reason why I came to Serena's in the first place.

Serena's POV

The doorbell rings again. What if it's Calem? I look out of the kitchen window. I see a familiar blue and white and red cap. I smile in relife and joy. It's Ash! I run to the door, excited.
"Hey, Sere." He looks confused, as if he's trying to take something in.
"Hey, Ash. You okay?" I ask, concerned. He nods, and smiles back at me. My Mom appears behind me.
"Ah, Sweetie. Is this Ash, the boy you've been talking about for-" I cut her off, as Ash shoots me a knowing look. I guess since we said we liked each other, it's kinda obvious what we've been saying, heh...
"Yep, thats him."
"So anyways, Serena, I just wanted to tell you that my family moved just down the street from here." He says, and my heart skips. Ash and his family have moved down the street! I'm so happy!

"And... Yeah. Basically, we'll be neighbors now!" He scratches the back of his head, at a loss for words. That's when we realise Mom left us. We're alone.
"Also, will you... Come to Prom with me?" He asks. I don't need to be asked twice.
"Of course, Ash! I'd love that!" I reply. We both smile. Giving each other a happy look, we know we'll have to tell our friends we're in love.

As we part ways, Ash waves, before doing something I never thought he'd do. Not yet, at least.

He kisses me on the cheek.

Hope you enjoyed this chapter. I thought I needed to add a rival for Ash, because, ya know your gal here has a small sense of evil in her soul! Hehe! Anyways, stay tuned for the next chapter! Enjoy!
