CHAPTER ONE:

The flicker, the flame, the burn, the pain. Nothing tends to stay the same.

"Alex, baby," Jessie spoke softly as he watched the other fall to the floor of their shared bathroom, tears flowing.

Jessie grabbed the pair of scissors out of Alex's hand and pulled the other into a hug. He allowed the other to sob uncontrollably into his shoulder.

"I don't know why I did that." Alex would finally admit once they stopped crying.

Jessie hummed in response. "It's okay, it's okay, let's just get you cleaned up." He spoke, standing up and offering Alex a hand. The other took the hand, allowing Jess to pull them up.

He took a look at the damage before sighing to himself. Alex, in the heat of a manic episode, had chopped their hair off to shoulder length, got halfway through, and stopped.

Jessie was gentle; he grabbed at the once-long hair, brushed it through, grabbed a section, and began cutting bits off at a time until the hair was even.

Whilst he was fixing up the parts he needed to, Alex was trying their hardest to keep it together. They hated that they had done something so impulsive and stupid, once again.

First, Jessie came home to Alex in the bathroom, black hair color splattered all around the skin and a frustrated Alex trying to get every single strand of hair. Now, he's once again having to clean up and fix the mess Alex made.

"Are you tired of me?" Alex asked.

Jessie simply shook his head and smiled so sweetly. "You? I could never get tired of."

"All I did is cause headaches and problems."

"Are you asking for reassurance or because you feel bad?"

"Both."

Jessie placed the scissors down, grabbed at Alex's shoulders, and turned the other towards him.

"I love you through everything, the good, the bad, and the stupid," Jessie answered, leaning over and planting a kiss on Alex's lips.

Alex jokingly pushed Jess away, "So you think I'm stupid!"

"Think? No. You are."

"Jackass."

"Yeah, yeah, let's just go get some dinner," Jessie replied, exiting the bathroom and heading to the door. He picked up the keys, twirling them in his hand as he waited for Alex to come rushing out of the bedroom.

It didn't take long for the other to come practically running to Jessie, "Where are we doing?" They asked and Jessie giggled.

"Does it really matter? Your fatass will eat anything."

"Oh shut up, you weren't complaining when this fatass was on your dick." Alex retorted.

Jessie coughed at the statement, "We'll be getting pizza."

Alex smiled happily, more than gracious to get out the house and get some of their favorite food.

Burning out, screaming loud, turning back but not allowed.

"I want to be a hitman." Alex would randomly burst out one day.

Jessie turned his attention away from the food he was cooking the pair. "Come again?"

"I want to be a hitman, ya know? Taking out high value targets for a shit ton of pay. That sounds so cool." Alex would reply, closing their laptop.

Jessie turned the food to a low heat, "Are you serious about this?" He asked and Alex nodded, "Okay, I'll support you, as long as I'm there beside you."

"You serious about that? I thought you wanted to stay away from crime and live a normal life." Alex spoke.

Jess nodded his head, "I think the idea of a normal life is overplayed. I just want a life with you, even if that means being badass hitman."

"But how would we even start? We are nobodies." Alex said.

"I know a few people from some connections in jail, thanks to Maverick." Jess replied, turning his attention back to the food, unable to see Alex flinch at the name.

How can he talk so calmly about it? Why does it still hurt me?

"You're serious about this?" Alex questioned.

"If you're serious, I'm serious. If this is what you want, I want to be there as well."

And that's how it started.

The pair became a powerhouse, growing to be one of the best known hitman there was. Their trick was that no one expected two people, they would always be prepared for the one, not knowing the other one was only a few feet behind, waiting for them to put their full attention on the one.

The FBI had the hitman on seven different watchlist, but could never track them. They knew the interworkings and how to avoid ever being caught. In fact, the only time the FBI had gotten closer to catching them, it was just a trap.

The pair taunted them, led them to a disgusting motel, had them break into the room, just to find two dogs fucking and a note on the wall that read, "Catch me if you can."

Jess and Alex were unstoppable, absolutely nothing could slow them down, so they thought.

It wasn't until they got a hit that they never expected.

The one thing that Alex could never repair themselves for was having to revisit a time in their life they never wanted to think about again.

Next Target: King and Maverick.
