Chapter 2

- Rowan's Point of View -

I woke up from the sound of horses hooves. They were here. The rain had stopped and everything was bathed in sunlight. Except for me. I was wearing green, which I usually wore, and I blended in fairly well with all the leaves. I made sure to move with the branches so that it would be harder to see me, with the shifting light and all. Of course they had to stop right under me. They sat there for what seemed like ages, and then they started to talk.

"What's the point, Davner?" One of them said.

"She's just a girl, what harm can she do us?"

I smiled a little. What harm indeed.

"What harm? WHAT HARM? Have you not seen what she's done already?" I assumed it was the man called Davner who was speaking.

"She escaped our prisons built to hold giants at least five times. She sabotaged almost every plan we've come up with. SHE'S PROBABLY LOOKING AT US THROUGH A CRYSTAL BALL RIGHT NOW!"

Not quite, I thought.

"Well, what'll we do?" Another one asked.

"We keep searching. To bad for that accursed rain, all her tracks were washed out...Corporal?"

"Yes Sir?" I assumed it was the Corporal speaking.

"Where is the nearest dwelling?"

They think I'm stupid enough to spend the night in someone's house? Now that's just insulting.

"Uh, that'll be the Smiths. They have a bed and breakfast maybe two miles from here, heading West"

"Let's hope she was tired enough to want a bed."

Sorry boys, I thought. I haven't slept in a bed so long, I've forgotten what it feels like. So I won't be needing one.

They rode off and I took a deep breath, looking at the sky and assessing my position. The Smith's bed and breakfast was 2 miles from here, and if I remember correctly they were South of Castle....I tried jogging my memory...Oh yes! Castle Locksley.

.................................................................................

- Samantha's Point of View -

"Alright, there you go Samantha dear. Just take these to the Castle and you can spend the night there. Young Joseph has volunteered to drive the wagon so that Mr. Jones can stay for Liturgy tomorrow." Mrs. Jones told me.

I suddenly felt a knot start in my stomach.

"Joseph you say?"

"Aye. What other Joseph would I be talkin' about?"

"Oh, yes. Sorry about that. I kind of blanked." I lied.

I was extremely surprised, but delighted at the same time. Joe was a nice boy and very polite. He had known Callum and Emma. Apparently they had gone hunting together when they were younger. Now I'm 18 and he's turning 19 soon. It was possibly over 5 years since they had last all gone hunting together.

"Now run along or you'll be late. You don't want to get there after dark."

"Alright, goodbye Mrs. Jones." I called back as I walked through the front door.

Even though they had adopted me, I still couldn't get use to calling them Ma and Pa. I just wasn't really comfortable with it, since I still had the memory of them burned into my head. They were a nice couple and didn't make me. They new everything that had happened and didn't want to impose.

"Hiya, Sammy." Joe said as I walked out the door.

He was finished stacking the crates with the bread and was now pulling a canvas across them and tying it down.

"Joe, I asked you not to call me that."

"Oh yeah. Sorry, I forgot."

"You'll always forget." I laughed.

"What can I say?" He shrugged.

"I have a terrible memory."

He helped me up onto the wagon seat and went to the other side, hopping gracefully up onto the seat next to me. He took the rains and within a split second we were off down the road.

"How long has it been since you saw Emma?" I asked him.

"Well let's see....She was....She was 14....And now she's...."

"That's five years Joe." I said, summing it up for him.

He didn't have as much opportunity as I had to get a proper education.

"Really? That long?"

I nodded. It guess it would seem like an awful long time.

"Huh. All I can remember is that Callum was practically falling at her heels." He chuckled.

I looked at him surprised. I mean, I knew he liked her, but I didn't know if it was just me and my match-making habits.

"Really?"

"Oh yeah. Well, I don't think either of them realized it, but Callum was falling pretty hard for her."

"To tell you the truth, I always thought that to. Just the way he talks and looks at her. You'd think they'd notice?"

"Yeah. Although, I've heard that when someone likes somebody else, they rarely realize it."

I felt a jolt in my stomach. What's that suppose to mean? I don't know what was wrong with me, but I was suddenly very hot and my heart sped up. I felt as though I had butterflies in my stomach.

"Are you alright?" He asked.

"Hmm? Oh...Yeah, I'm fine."

I mean, it wasn't an entire lie. I didn't feel bad, I just felt...Different.

"Joe, what do you know Callum to be like?" I tried to change the subject.

Of course I knew what Callum was like, but I thought it would be handy to have a boys opinion.

"Callum? Oh, he's very thoughtful. Always puts others before himself. He beats them all with a sword," He laughed.

"I also think, now this is my own opinion, he doesn't really know how to contact his feelings. He never tells anyone what he's feeling. He could look perfectly happy on the outside and miserable on the inside."

That's it! That's what I was trying to pin point.

"I agree entirely." I said.

"Now what about Emma?"

"Well, I don't know Emma well enough to actually give you an in depth speech about what I think of her, but what I've seen of her I'd say she's just trying to fit in. She doesn't like to be in the center of attention, I know that well enough. I also think that she's searching for something. I don't know what, but I don't think she does either....Out of curiosity, why do you ask?"

"Hmmm...Oh! I think I have a plan."

- Alrighty then, here is your chapter lovelies :D Now, I know it's kind of short, but this seemed like a good ending. What do you guys think so far? I'd love to hear what you have to say. I hope you enjoyed the chapter and if you did, votes are appreciated. Thanks :D - Anna
