Chapter 18
- Callum's Point of View -
"Look, I know you probably can't hear me right now, but it doesn't make it any different," I said, looking at the still body of Em, lying there on the bed.
"Just wake up...Please?"
Nothing. She was as stiff as a board. For the millionth time this morning I was hoping just to see those pretty green eyes one more time.
"Why are you doing this? Just please, wake up. Jump out of bed like you've always done and go climb a tree. Anything to show me that you'll be alright."
Still nothing. I sighed and got up, walking into the living room where everyone was asleep, scattered on wooden rocking chairs. I was about to walk out the front door and get some fresh air when I realized something.
"Where's Rowan?" I asked, swinging around quickly.
Sam lifted her head up sleepily and looked around the room. When she didn't see her she was more alert.
"I don't know."
I went outside into the yard and looked around....The buckskin horse was gone. In other words, her horse was gone, and she had taken it.
"Oh no." I said under my breath.
"Where could she have gone?" Sam asked, walking out onto the porch.
I didn't answer. I just kept staring at the trees. I knew exactly where she had gone.

- Rowan's Point of View -
You're an idiot, I thought to myself as I stared down into the cold dungeon. You don't even have a plan. What makes you think it'll work? ....Ugh, snap out of it. You've got better things to do then talk to yourself about how bad your plan is.
"Yes boss. I'll go up and get him." I heard one of the guards say.
That was when I realized I was exactly in the line of vision. I looked around me....Nothing. The room was empty. I had nowhere to hide. Then I looked up. A smile spread across my face and I grabbed onto the jagged stone wall. A terrible choice for interior decorating, but in my favor. I climbed up the jutting rocks and made my way up to the rafters, pulling myself onto the wide wooden beams just as the guard walked through the door. I held my breath as he walked through the empty room and out the other door, letting out a sigh as I heard the door close behind him. I swung down from the rafters, crouching as I landed. I quietly crept through the open door and down the flight of stairs, ducking behind a bunch of barrels as I heard voices coming from the other end of the hall.
"He said he wanted an execution," Came a deep voice, a lot closer then I had thought.
"How was I suppose to know it would be Rowan's mother."
I held in a gasp, hoping that they hadn't gone through with it.
"I wish I could just quit this job. First, De Levon beat his own family, then they ran away, then he went and executed that poor slave lady. I remember Rowan always being so determined and competent, I wonder why she didn't do anything about it."
"Well, if she was smart she'd be far, far, away from here...I would do anything to get De Levon out of here. Someone else better then him deserves the power." The other man said.
Should I? I thought. Then I nodded. It would be my only choice. I stood up from behind the barrels and smiled at the surprised faces the two guards.
"Hello!" I said, waving and smiling.
"Get her!" One of them said, and he ran at me with a spear.
I swayed to the side, grabbed the spear, then shoved the mans face into the wall as lightly as I possibly could.
"Look, I'm on your side. I won't tell anyone what you just said. I agree with you...Plus, I'm his daughter."
The man looked at me with wide eyes.
"Rowan?"
"You betcha."
"Where were...? How did...? Why did...?" He said, never finishing his questions.
"Long story short: I came back and want to kick my dad out of high authority. Verstehen?"
The man seemed to understand what I had said, even if it wasn't in his own language, and nodded.
"Good...Now here's what we'll do."

- Callum's Point of View -
"You do realize that he'll probably kill you, right?" Sam asked me as I tightened my horses saddle girth.
"Yeah, probably."
"Fine. Go. Get killed. I'll just tell Emma when she wakes up that you went to commit suicide."
I don't know what came over me, it all just sort of...Happened. I swung around at Sam and pinned her to the wall, glaring at her through blurred eyes.
"Don't ever say that again! Ever!"
Then I realized what I had done and let go, shrinking down to the porch.
"Sorry Sam. I don't know what came over me." I apologized.
"Nah, I'm the one who should be saying sorry...You're just stressed and I'm not making it any better."
"I have to do this. I'm sick of hiding." I said, standing up and walking over to my horse.
"Can you at least do one thing for me?" Sam asked.
"What?"
A mischievous smile came over her.
"Throw him in the moat."
