Chapter 11

- Callum's Point of View -

"I'm the son of a rich, shady, cruel, disgusting, jackal, who doesn't care about anyone." I said, just bringing it all out after such a long time of hiding it.

I saw the surprise on Em's face and I almost didn't want to continue for fear of what she'd do.

"I hated him more then anything I've ever known...But not enough to kill him."

"Callum...What do you mean?"

"My sister did."

Em's jaw dropped, practically falling out of it's sockets.

"You have got to be kidding me...Rowan...She killed him?"

I nodded, my jaw set in determined lines. I have to tell her, I thought. I HAVE to.

"That isn't it, is it?"

"Now you're reading my thoughts...No, it isn't...He never died. She thought she'd killed him, and so did the rest of us. He's now one of the biggest, most well known and loved, business man in the entire kingdom."

"Not..."

"Louis De Landro." I nodded.

Louis De Landro was known for his lovable personality and his way of dealing with thugs.

"But I thought you said he's a rich, shady, cruel, disgusting, jackal, who doesn't care about anyone?" Em asked me, clearly confused.

"It's because he is. I know him for his real self...And I know he's a superb actor. I'm just wondering how long he'll keep up this act."

"How old was Rowan when she...You know...Killed him?"

"Eight."

"EIGHT? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?"

I shook my head.

"She hated him that much?"

"Yup...I don't even think cares about me or anyone else. Even if my dad was a rascal...Killing him was no way to go."

Em was silent for a good long while, just absorbing the information. She fell flat down on her back, looking up at the sky.

"...Wow..."

Then she made a thoughtful look and asked, "But what about your mother?"

"Ma was forced to marry him. Her father sold her to him to pay for the mortgage."

I could still taste the bitterness in my mouth, the hatred that lingered in me.

- Emmalina's Point of View -

And I thought I had a hard time?

"Callum, if I ever complain about having a bad day again...You have my permission to punch me."

He looked at me for a second, lingering a little bit longer then I was comfortable with.

"You know Em, you're a remarkable girl."

I laughed.

"No I'm not. You're the one who always has a good attitude about everything, even after what you've been through. You never feel sorry for yourself and you always put others before you. Even after your mother being sold to slavery and your sister killing your father, you still believe in this...This God. How, Callum? How can you have so much faith in something you can't see?"

"How can you not?"

.................................................................................

- Rowan's Point of View -

I lay there, just looking up at the ceiling, my hands behind my head. It had been a long day and all for nothing. Callum probably thought I had run out on him again...Which I had. But this time I had a good reason. He'd probably never know the real reason and go on hating me for the rest of his life. Even though he knows nothing about the facts of the situation. I couldn't even begin to describe how much a just wanted to stop running, to lay down and just let them take me away. To break my neck and get it over with. But I couldn't...For Ma's sake.

I was drowning in my thoughts when a knock on the door brought me back to the real world.

"Come in." I said, swinging my legs over the edge of the bed.

Samantha came in, holding a tray of food and a glass of water.

"I thought you might want something to eat." She said.

"Thanks, I'm famished." I smiled.

It was true. I hadn't eaten a bite of food all day.

"Sam, how well do you know Callum?"

"Huh, I know that he's the only who ever called me Sam, until you came along...Coming to think of it, I don't actually know a whole lot about Callum. He doesn't really talk about his past."

Just what I thought. Why would he? If he has nothing good to say about it.

"What's your sudden interest in him?"

Uh oh!

"Um...He just seemed like an interesting type to me."

Hopefully she goes for it.

......................................................................................

- Samantha's Point of View -

"Um...He just seemed like an interesting type to me."

Yeah, like I'm gonna believe that, I thought.

"Anyway, Mrs. Jones said you can stay as long as you want." I tried changing the subject.

"Thanks, but I have to be going in the morning."

"Oh. Will you stay for breakfast?"

"Thanks again, but no. I have to be off early."

"Well then, I'll fix something for you to pick up on your out. I'll leave it by the door...Goodnight." I said, leaving the room.

Strange, I thought. If she leaves I'll probably never figure out what's going on...Hmm...

......................................................................................

- Joseph's Point of View -

"Joe, where have you been all evening?" Ma asked as I walked in the door.

"I was just laying out in the grass." I said, innocently.

"Well aren't you going to eat dinner?"

"Nah, I'm not hungry...I'm gonna hit the sack. Night."

I was starting to walk up the stairs to my room when somebody nocked on the door.

"Joe, do you mind getting that?"

"Alright." I said, sighing and walking to the door, running a hand through my hair.

I opened the door and standing on the porch was none other then Sammy, her face alive and bright with a huge smile.

"What are doing here at this time of night?" I asked, sleepily.

"We need to talk."

"What about?"

"We're going to follow somebody."

Before I could ask what she meant, she had marched into the house, saying hi to Ma. I closed the door before turning to her with a questioning look.

"What do you mean?"

"Um...Not here." She said in a low voice.

"Oh. Let's go in the backyard."

We walked swiftly through the kitchen, past my mom and to the back door.

"I thought you were going to bed?" She asked.

"I changed my mind." I said, closing the door behind us.

"Alright, we're alone now...Who are we following?"

"Rowan."

- Here you go everyone. Sorry for the late update but I was gone all day yesterday. So, I have a few more questions for you if you could be so great as to answer them. Thanks =D

(1) Who's your favorite character (Besides Emmalina) and why?

(2) Which character do you think you can relate to the most?

(3) Which character do you think I should look more into?

This is all just so that I can improve on my writing skills. I'm trying extremely hard to give the characters different personalities and not making them all the same. I think it's very important for the readers to feel they know the characters personally, but it's extremely hard to write. I would LOVE if you guys could give me some feedback on that. Thank you guys SOOO much. You're so helpful. Thanks again =D - Anna
