Chapter 10

- Emmalina's Point of View -

I NEW IT! I NEW THEY LOOKED TOO MUCH ALIKE FOR IT TO BE COINCIDENCE, I thought calmly. I felt as though Callum's reaction was sort of delayed, as if he didn't believe what the man had just said. In fact, I wasn't even sure if he new he even had a sibling. If he did, he had never told me. Wait a minute! If that man was after Rowan then...I'm in a really bad fix. I glanced around and caught Rowan's eye. She looked at me for a second, then moved her eyes to the man next to me, nodding her head ever so slightly. I used my side vision to try and see what she was looking at, and my eyes landed on his dirk. How convenient. The dirk was one of my specialties, and he was right next to me.

"You mean, he doesn't know?" The man called Fletcher said, with a sort of sneer in his voice.

"Well then, I'll just take this little miss with me and let you two think about what'll happen tomorrow night."

"NOT HAPPENING!" I said, snatching the dirk out of it's sheath.

I quickly spun around before he could stab me with his knife, and the blade of my own sliced across his face, leaving an ugly wound. He screamed in pain clutching the side of his face, and to keep him from trying to fight back I dug my foot, as hard as I could, into the small of his ankle. He yelled even louder then before and we ran off, leaving them in our tracks. We rushed through the underbrush and trees, not even bothering to look behind us. Finally, we stopped in a clearing filled with daisies. I was about to ask Rowan about what she had said but she quickly cut me off.

"Goodbye." She said.

"Wait, what do you mean?"

"I'm leaving. I should never had stayed this long anyway. So long."

And she ran off into the woods, her blonde hair flowing behind her. I collapsed on the grass, just as Callum had done, and just sat there for a minute.

"Well that was weird." I finally said.

Callum didn't answer and turned to look at him. He was just staring at the ground, plucking a few strands of grass.

"What's wrong?"

"What's wrong?!? Were you even awake five minutes ago?"

I realized what a silly question it really was, so I rephrased it.

"I mean, would you mind telling me what's going on?"

He sighed and got up, just to sit back down again.

"It's true, what that man said. I am her brother, but I didn't know it till that moment. She had looked familiar when you first brought her over, but it had been so long, she didn't even come to mind."

"Why didn't you tell me you still had family?"

"Because I didn't know I did. She was suppose to be dead, along with the others."

"Others?"

I could see that he didn't mean to let that slip out.

"It's not...It's just...I can't tell you."

"Callum, there have been a lot of things you can't tell me lately. You'd better start or so help me I'll drown you!"

It came out a little more harsh then I had meant it to, but I was sick and tired of all these secrets. He looked at me for a minute, expressionless, and I hoped that he wasn't angry with me. I didn't like to get him angry. Probably because he didn't get angry very easily and if I had made him angry...Well, you catch my drift.

"Em," He finally spoke.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you this earlier. I should've said it the first minute I saw you...But I couldn't. It's the life I've been trying to hide ever since I became an orphan. I knew I couldn't lock my past away in a box forever, but I had hoped that the perfect time would come for me to tell you. But it hasn't yet...So I'm gonna just shoot for the squirrel and stop being the coward that I am."

- Samantha's Point of View -

"Then I joined the high ranks of my fellow students, becoming one of the greatest magicians there ever was." I said, finishing up the made up story I had just put together.

"So that's it? What happens to the bear?" Joe asked me, the concern on his face.

"Does he die?"

"Of course not. He gets better and roams the mountains of his childhood, hunting and eating as much as he wants."

"Well that's nice...You know, that story gets different every time you tell it."

"That's the beauty of the whole thing. You never know what's going to happen next."

We were lying out in the lawn, on the soft green grass, just enjoying the night air. It was kind of our thing. In summer, every Sunday night we'd go outside and admire the star filled sky, spilling a few
on-the-spot tales.

"I wonder what Emma's doing right now." I said, more to myself then anyone else.

"She's probably fast asleep, like we should be."

"Who, Emma? No way. She's a total night owl. I bet she only needs six hours sleep every night and she'll be fine the rest of the day."

"Mmmmm. I wonder what she does?"

"That's just what I said, nit-wit."

Then we both laughed. We were extremely punchy again and were probably waking up the whole neighborhood while trying to smother our laughter.

"She's probably reading, or laying about in the garden." I said.

"Who does that? Laying about in a garden at night." Joe asked.

"Oh wait!"

We looked around us and saw that we were surrounded by Mrs. Jones' flower beds. Then we started to laugh again.

"Shouldn't you two be in bed?" Came a half familiar voice.

I shot up from my lying position and glanced around, my eyes landing on a strangely dressed, young adult girl with sandy hair.

"Rowan! What are you doing here?" I asked, jumping to my feet.

"So, you remembered my name." She said, with just the ghost of a smile on her face.

"Of course I did. I'm the one who's good with names, Joe is the one that's good numbers. You see, I can never remember a number."

"Hey Joe." She waved.

"Hello."

"So again, what are you doing here? Weren't you at Castle Locksley?" I asked.

"Yes, well something came up and I need a place to stay. Do you think you could put me up for the night?"

"Yeah sure. No problem. Right this way."

Something came up, eh? I thought. That's the oldest excuse in the book. Something's up.

- Okay, here you go everyone. The new chapter. I wrote the last part because, as Sammy and Joe, I'm extremely punchy at the moment. I think it's time for my beddy-bye-bye. LOL XD. Can't wait to here what you guys think and as always, votes and comments do not go unnoticed. Danke (Thank you) :D - Anna
