Tom was a 10-year-old boy. His only responsibility was making sure his little sister Seras was safe. His family weren't nobles, but they sure didn't live like normal villagers (eating like kings every night). However, his parents were a little strange, always bringing home strange people wearing strange necklaces.

One day he was forced to run away from his home by his mother and father.

"Where are we going, Mommy?" Tom asked, but his mother was concerned about something else entirely.

"Diane, take them to the mines. I'll distract the deacon", the father said.

"Charles, no!" Diane, the mother, shouted.

"We have no choice! I got us into this mess. I'll get us out! Now go!" Charles said.

Seras was balling her eyes out while Tom tried to comfort her. Charles ran in the opposite direction of his family to distract their pursuers.

"Gyahhhhhhhh" was the last sound Tom heard from his father as they fled.

Diane saw a deep cave and took her two children there.

"Tom, you have to protect your sister. Don't stop hiding until a knight or a guardian from the kingdom finds you. Until then, please survive", Diane told her son.

"Mommy!!!" Tom cried as his mother faded from his sight.

Miner's Ravin

2 months afterward, Tom finds himself and his sister face to face with their parent's murderer.

Ranchus, the deacon of the sector his parents worked in, was currently trying to kill their savior, however.

'Clinnnnnnnnkkk' a sound of metal hitting a wall was made.

"Magic?" Edward said as he saw teal green air shield him.

Ranchus stepped backward, fearing a magic attack.

"So you were a magic user, trying to get me off guard by not using it earlier hah! Fat Chance!" Ranchus shouted.

Edward stood up and the air shield floated up as well.

(What a time for my magic to awaken, mom was right)"I won't let you harm these children!" Edward shouted as he ran with the shield in front of him like a battering ram.

Ranchus swung his sword again but ended up getting pushed back again.

"Hehehe, looks like I did some damage that time." Ranchus smiled.

The square air shield had a huge crack on its body and was ready to crack.

*Beast evolution: hyness!* Ranchus partially transformed into his hyena form as he charged towards Edward

[Safari frenzy!] Ranchus said, punching the air shield repeatedly.

'Crack!!!!!' the shield broke; the fracture caused both men to fly backward.

"Damn it,(can I make a stronger one? Can I even make another one?) Edward pondered in his mind Until.

[Straight kill!] Ranchus launched a straight right punch at Edward. He managed to dodge it, yet the force of the punch made a crater in the ground.

Edward lost his footing from this, giving Ranchus a chance to strike.

"It's over!" Ranchus shouted with dog slobber foaming from his mouth.

Then...

Ranchus' left hand was covered in his own blood.

"Huh," he said, looking at his mysterious wound.

"Sir Remi?" Edward said, surprised.

Remi ran from the end of the cave to stab the palm of the deacon.

Remi's rage had grown, giving him even more attacking power.

"Hey, you bloody cultist! Has anyone ever told you, you smell like a wet dog?" Remi tried lightening the tension.

Edward chuckled a little but the kids were still scared.

"Hehehe, I hope you won't get a chance to run away this time, child!" Ranchus said as he licked his wound.

"There's no need to run away from a sicko like you!" Remi said.

Feeling the determination of his friend, Edward stood up and manifested some teal Mana.

"What's that?" Remi asked, wondering why Edward was glowing.

"It's magic Sir. With you by my side, I am sure I'll be able to control it", Edward said.

(I've got the perfect name for it too)

{Air wall!} Edward shouted as he put his right hand forward. The Mana left his body and shifted to his hand; it then formed a small square wall in front of him, flowing around like air.

"You can use magic now?" Remi said.

"Apparently", Edward said with beads of sweat falling from his face(it's much harder manifesting it than I thought).

"Well, let's take him down together," Remi said.

"Enough rambling! Time to atone for your sins!" Ranchus shouted as he charged the knights.

{Air wall} Edward then castes his magic shield to block an attack from the deacon.

Remi stepped aside and parried the blow to the shield.

"Take this!" 'slash!' Remi shouted as he swung at Ranchus's left leg; his thigh erupted in blood as the wound was deep.

"Gaaaaaahhh!" Ranchus shouted and punched Remi with full force.

Remi quickly stood up. "Grrrrrrrrr" he had broken a few ribs but, thanks to the anger, his wounds were healing.

"What are you?!" Ranchus said as he saw Remi's bones pop back into position in his chest but they hadn't fully healed yet.

Remi's single blue horn grew longer and his eyes flared up.

"Am the knight who's going to save these kids!" Remi yelled.

Ranchus picked up a boulder and flung it at Remi.

{Air wall!} The shield appeared once again and withstood the force of the boulder(So I can send it to locations within 250 meters away from me? Noted) Edward said in his mind.

"You little shit!" Ranchus shouted and charged Edward, however.

'slashhhhhhh!' Remi once again landed a reckless slash on the back of the deacon. The blood erupted, covering both Remi and Edward. Ranchus retreated.

Damn!!!!!" Ranchus lost it. His frustration grew; Remi, who was just flailing his sword around mindlessly, and Edward, who had just discovered magic, was actually putting up a fight against him, a deacon.

"No more! I'll take all of you down even if I have to die in the process! All for the church!!!" Ranchus shouted.

[Instinct!   Rampage!]

Using his last resort, Ranchus's mind became that of a beast. His eyes whitened and his muscles bulged out.

He grew even bigger and lost his mind.

"Guahahahahahahaha!" Ranchus let out a demented laugh that echoed all over the cave.

"Girahhhhhhhh!" Ranchus let out a scream as he used his tail like a whip. Remi wasn't able to dodge in time and got swept up in the attack and so did Edward.

"Guwahhhhhhh" Remi and Edward both shouted.

The two were swept away to another corner of the cave. The kids were still safe and hiding near the ravine bank.

"Edward, I need a clear shot at his head. Can you use that 'air wall' of yours to elevate me or something?" Remi asked.

"I'm not sure I can move you around in the air, but if you step on it I think I can give you a boost in speed though," Edward answered.

In the middle of their conversation, they noticed Ranchus rampaging, destroying all the pillars that held up the cave.

"That idiot! So he has turned suicidal!" Edward noticed.

"Ed, get those kids to safety then, send an air wall to me," said Remi.

Remi then rushed off to Ranchus and Edward went to get the kids to safety.

Edward found Tom and Seras still hiding. He carried Seras and led Tom to a safer area as the ceiling began to fall.

Remi was helplessly trying to dodge both the falling debris and the wild punches from the crazed deacon, then.

{Air wall} Edward returned and sent out a square air wall that shifted upside down like a springboard. It was quite a distance beyond Remi though.

Remi saw this as a sign and built up all his rage into his legs; all his strength went into his legs, and he used that to jump. 'Buuuuuhh'

The ground cracked as he jumped up, he then landed on the air wall that launched him at Ranchus.

Remi swung his sword downward.

He missed Ranchus's head but, from his neck downward, was completely sliced up by Remi's sword.

"Guraaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" Ranchus cried as his blood flowed out of his body.

Remi landed on his feet and noticed his legs were damaged from the jump.

"Shit! Ed, let's go; I don't think I can continue!" Remi shouted as he walked slowly to Edward's location due to his damaged feet.

"Graaaaaaaa" Ranchus shouted as he reached out for Remi.

"Damn, he's still alive!" Said Remi. The ceiling of the cave finally gave out and collapsed. The falling debris landed on the beast Ranchus first.

"Guwaaaa" was the sound he made as a huge boulder fell on his head, crushing his skull immediately. The rest of his body followed soon after in the crushing. Deacon Ranchus died at that moment.

Remi, however, survived.

{Air.......wal..l} Edward said, using the last of his mana to save Remi from the falling debris.

"Hurry sir!" Edward begged.

Remi once again put his strength into his legs and sprinted to Edward's location, ignoring the tearing muscles and tendons.

Remi reached Edward and, with the children, made their exit.

Road to Swampfort village

Edward was exhausted and walked on his own but Remi, who had healed, was carrying both Tom and Seras.

"Thank you for saving us, mister," Tom said with gratitude to both Remi and Edward.

"It's what heroes do," Edward said, rubbing the base of his nose.

"Yeah, you guys need help; I can't bear seeing kids get harassed for something out of their control", Remi added.

"Ed, when we get to the cabin, I'd like to ask about magic. Is that okay?" Remi asked.

"Of course Sir, no, I'll tell you everything about myself as well as the reason I want to be a hero", Edward said. He noticed Remi didn't know much about him either.

The walls of the village had been set up. They are made of wood for now. At the back entrance was Unala standing and waiting.

Remi was expecting her to remark how long it took them to get here, however.

"Good job Edward, Remi. I expected nothing less from you two", Unala remarked.

"Thank you, princess! I'll give my report on what happened as soon as we get the kids to safety", Edward said, while giving her salute.

Remi was still baffled (she actually used my name). Unala had never referred to him as anything other than a demon yet.

He felt something deep within his blood-lusting heart, something he couldn't explain.

With that done, Remi and Edward's first official mission came to a successful conclusion.
