15- Being honest

Victoria was on her way out to meet the potential renter, and as she walked down the hallway, Dalton stepped in front of her, and placed his arm around her waist. "Where are you heading off to?"

She looked around, and over his shoulder hoping nobody was around to see his arm around her, and looked back at him, "I have to go meet someone who's interested in taking over my lease... I shouldn't be too long."

He looked at his watch, and turned, placing his hand on the small of her back. "If it's all right, I can go with you, I have a couple hours to spare until the next patient, we can also grab some lunch along the way, or after you meet with the potential renter."

She smiled, and thought it might be a good idea for him to come along, incase Brayden was there, or if the man she's never met, and knows nothing about has other intentions with her. "Sure, I'd like that."

He started walking her down the hallway, then stopped and looked at him "It might not be a good idea for you to have your hand on me, someone might see..." she whispered.

He understood her concerns, but still wished she would allow him to show they were an item, and removed his hand away from her, while opening the door. It didn't make him feel good with her wanting to hide their relationship, but was willing to do whatever it took to keep her happy. As she walked outside, he walked over to the girls at the front desk, letting them know he was leaving for lunch, and would be back soon.

He walked outside, and saw her getting into her car, and yelled "Victoria!" He walked over to his vehicle and waved for her to come over. "You can ride with me." he says, opening the door for her when she walked over.

Along the way to her apartment, he remained quiet, wondering how long it'll take for her to show others they are together, and reached his hand over, placing it into hers. This was all new to her, and something she wasn't used to since Brayden was never affectionate towards her. All it took was for Dalton to look at her the way he does, or for him to touch her that had her feeling all giddy inside. He lifted her hand, and brought it over to her lips, kissing the top of her hand, and resting it back on her thigh. "I've been thinking... if you need a place to stay, there's always room for you at my place."

She looked over at him, and took a deep breath. She liked the offer, but thought it may be too soon to move in with someone she barely knew, and not wanting to ruin a good thing too fast. "Thanks, but that's something I'll have to think about, I don't want to rush into anything like we've done already."

"It was only a suggestion." he sighed, releasing his hand from hers. He turned into the parking lot, found a place to park, and shut his vehicle off. "Is he going to be home?"

"I have no idea." she says, looking around to see if she could see his car. "After last night, who knows what he's doing."

He quickly turned his head toward her, worried he did something to her, and wondered if that was her reasoning on why she showed up at his house in the middle of the night. "Why, what happened?"

She reached for the door, and looked out the window, not wanting to talk about it just yet. "I'll tell you later."

"If he hurt you, you better tell me."

She turned, and leaned over to him grabbing a fistful of his shirt, and pulled him closer to her. As she looked into his eyes, she smiled at the thought of how caring he was, and felt her insides melting. "No, he didn't hurt me. He just pulled something on me that wasn't too cool... I'll explain later." she says, giving him a quick kiss before heading inside.

They walked into her apartment, and got quite the surprise when they saw Brayden, and the woman he brought over completely naked, and asleep on the couch. She walked over to them, and shook him until he woke up. "For God's sake, get up and get dressed, someone is on their way over to look at the apartment." she growled.

"Victoria, what a nice surprise to see you here." he says with a stupid grin on his face. He then looked over, saw the doctor standing there staring at them, and chuckled. "Nice to see you again, you must feel good about yourself stealing another man's woman."

"Oh, for God's sake, get your lazy drunk ass up, and get dressed. He didn't steal another man's woman, and I'm no longer yours remember? And, if you were so worried about it, you wouldn't be lying naked with another woman." She pulled him off the couch, with the woman falling to the ground as she pulled on his arm.

Dalton was doing all he could to hold back from saying anything, and looked the other way. He was glad he came with her, and had a feeling on why she came over when she did. Victoria finally got the two drunkards out of the living room, and forced them into the bedroom. Just as she got them into the other room, there was a knock at the door.

"Hi, I'm Josh... you must be Victoria?"

"Yes, come on in." she says, opening the door. She felt relieved to see he had shown up, and hoped he was willing to move in. She showed him around, and explained the reasoning behind why she was moving out. "This room here is Brayden's, I'd open the door, and introduce you to him, but he's indisposed at the moment... and most likely naked."

Dalton, curious as to who this man was, and if he would be able to get approved to move in, opened his mouth. "What is it that you do for a living?"

"I'm actually a police officer. My wife and I recently split, and she unfortunately gets the house. Until the divorce is finalized, I need somewhere to stay until I can find another house."

Thinking this was perfect for her, and perfect for Brayden, she smiled. "What are your thoughts on the apartment?" she asked, crossing her fingers.

He looked around the apartment once again, thinking this would be fine for now, and felt it would be more than enough time to find himself another house. He walked over to Victoria, and shook her hand. "I'll take it..."

A smile crept up her face, and shook his hand faster. "You have absolutely no idea how good this makes me feel to hear this. How soon can you move in?"

"Immediately... as of right now, I'm staying at a hotel."

She looked at the time, then over to Dalton. "Do we have enough time to go over to management, so he can fill out all the paperwork?"

"I don't see why not."

They headed over to the office, and had him fill out all the necessary paperwork. Victoria was in heaven, and overly thrilled about what he did for a living, and knew there would be no issues with him getting approved. She then hoped by having a police officer living with Brayden, it would help shape him up.

They had another hour until Dalton were to see his next patient, and stopped at a diner for lunch. While they ate, he couldn't help but think of what they walked into, and was still wondering if that was why she came over when she did, and looked at her while setting his sandwich down on his plate. "I have to ask, and I hope this doesn't upset you in any way... but seeing what I saw when we walked in this afternoon, is that the reasoning on why you came over in the middle of the night?"

Her stomach dropped, knowing it was partly why she came over, but didn't want him thinking that was the only reason why, and didn't want him thinking she used him either. "Partially..."

"Victoria..." he groaned quietly, feeling hurt.

"Before you get upset, let me explain." she says, reaching her hand for his, and holding it. "After leaving you at the clinic, I went home and started thinking about things. I thought about my life, what I wanted, where it was going, who I was around, and who I was living with. I figured out what I wanted, and who I wanted to start sharing it with. That was when I put out an ad. I thought about coming over to see you, and to tell you what I had decided, but it was getting late. As I was getting ready to go to bed, I heard him come home, and saw something I wished I hadn't. I didn't want to hear them two fooling around the entire night, and that's when I packed my things, and left. I drove around for a while trying to figure out what I should do, and thought about how you said the door would be open for me. When I saw you did in fact leave the door unlocked, it made me feel good, and knew the decision I was about to make, was the right one... I didn't want to wake you, but seeing you sleeping, and naked, all kinds of feelings started running through my mind, and wanted to let you know I made it."

"That's good to know, and I do hope you're being honest with me... and I hope you didn't make your decision after seeing what you saw."

"Dalton, it's the truth. I wasn't trying to hang on to him, thinking we could eventually make things work. Our relationship was over a long time ago, a very long time ago. I tried making it work for so long, that I just couldn't do it any longer. You just so happened to come into my life at the right time, which was scaring me."

"Why?"

"Because of the relationship I had with Brayden. I was scared to move on. But then you started showing me what it felt to be wanted by someone, and then the sex... I've never felt anything like it, and wasn't sure if what I was feeling was lust, because of how you were with me, and showing me things that I never experienced before. So, I kept questioning myself, is it lust, or do I have feelings for you? Then your sister came into the picture, and started talking to me about things... That was when I realized the feelings, I had for you, were in fact real, not lust."

Liking what he was hearing, and feeling better after she opened up to him, he smiled. He looked at the time, and figured they better hurry, knowing they could talk about it more later. On the way back to work, and as they sat at a stop light, he leaned over, and quickly pulled her in for a kiss, not wanting to stop until he heard her giggling, and pulled back to look at her. "Why are you laughing?"

"Because the light is green."

"Oh, I better step on it." he grinned, when he looked and saw the light was green.

As they walked into the clinic, they got some stares, and heard the girls at the front whispering. Dalton brushed it off, not caring if they were talking about them and kept walking. But it did bother Victoria, and she quickly headed back to her office.

"Wow, that took a while." Tiara said as she saw the time.

"Yea I know. But the good thing is, he's moving in, he filled out the paperwork, and the best thing about it is, he's a police officer." she giggled.

Tiara laughed, knowing it'll be perfect, then looked at her while Janelle listened. "Now the question is, where are you moving to?"

"I don't know yet... that was something I was planning on discussing with you later." She glanced over at Janelle, and noticed how she was looking at her. Unsure of what to expect by the way she was looking at her, she turned and faced the computer.

"If you're interested, Teagan has to work a double and won't be around tonight, so you can always come over, and we can talk."

"Sure, I'd like that."

Janelle kept quiet, and listened as they spoke, hoping her brother was playing smart with her, and wouldn't allow her to move in with him, not yet anyway. She felt they were both using each other as a rebound, and felt he wasn't quite over Krista. Being that he insisted for her to back off, and for her to get to know Victoria before assuming the worst, she decided to do just that, even if it meant not agreeing with his decisions.

Victoria opened a file, and noticed it was missing all the paperwork inside. She left the room, and headed over to the front desk. "Danielle, this file is missing all the paperwork, you wouldn't happen to have it up here for some reason, would you?" she asked, handing her the file.

She gave her a strange look while taking the file from her hand, and looked inside. "That's weird, let me look around."

"I'll wait." she says, looking the other way, and watching a couple kids standing by the fish aquarium, excitedly admiring all the fish inside. Smiling as she watched them, and then it crossed her mind wondering what it would be like if she were to ever have her own. She loved kids, but it was other people's kids she enjoyed. She wasn't ready to have any, and wasn't sure if she really wanted to have children of her own. She looked away from the kids, and over to Danielle. "Any luck?"

"No, none... you may want to find out from the doctor who looked at the patient." she says, going over to the computer, and looking up the patients name in the system. "Which was Doctor Jones..." she said smiling at her.

"Why are you smiling at me like that?" she asked, as she took the file back.

"Oh nothing... it's just that I'm sure you'll love having to go find him, so you can get him alone." she smirked.

"Not funny." she snarled, storming away from her, then stopped and turned around after she thought about what she said. "And take that smirk off your face, you know absolutely nothing." She had a feeling they were talking about her, by the way they were looking at her and Dalton when they came back from lunch.

Of course, it has to be Dalton's patient that's missing paperwork, she thought to herself as she walked away to look for him. He walked out of a room just as she walked by, and called out her name. She turned around, and walked over to him holding out the file. "This file is missing the entire paperwork, and Danielle claims she was your patient." she says, speaking to him in a monotonous tone.

His eyebrows scrunched together as he took the file from her hand, wondering why she looked, and sounded the way she did. "Is something wrong?"

"Nope, just need the paperwork that belongs in this file." she says turning around, and walking away, leaving him dumbfounded. He ran his hand through his hair, and turned around when he heard someone behind him.

"Danielle..." he says, holding the file up for her to see. "Are you sure you don't have the paperwork that belongs in this file?"

"That's the reason why I'm here, I found what Victoria was looking for... here." she says smiling, as she handed him papers.

"Thanks." He placed the papers inside the file, and went into his office to look them over before handing the file back to Victoria. After looking it over, he walked into her office, and cleared his throat letting her know he was standing next to her.

"Did you find the papers?" she asked, refusing to look at him.

He placed the file in front of her, then reached for her chin to have her look at him, wanting to figure out what her problem was. "Danielle handed them to me, just as you walked away."

"That bitch!" she yelled, pushing his hand away from her. "She set me up!"

"What?" he asked confused. He looked over at Tiara, and Janelle who were both staring at them, and furrowed his eyebrows. "Do you know what she's talking about?"

"No... what did you mean by that?" Tiara asked, looking over at Victoria.

"You know what? Nothing, forget it..." she snapped, then looked up at Dalton. "Thanks for bringing the file back, but don't you have patients that need to be seen?"

She looked away, feeling bad for snapping at him, and knowing he didn't deserve to be treated like that. "Just let me be, please." she whispered.

He looked at Janelle as he was leaving the room, and shook his head at her when he saw her smiling at him, then looked back at Victoria before leaving the room. "Victoria, when you get a chance, I need to see you in my office, preferably right now."

Hope you enjoyed the chapter.🤞🤞

Poor Doctor Jones, will she go see him, or will she wait until later?🤔🤔

Did Danielle set her up? Or was it an honest mistake?
