Nila stalks up to the door slowly, grasping Gizmo tightly in her hands like her five year old self would've hugged her favourite teddy bear, 'Snuchles' back on Mars. Five year old Nila had a speaking problem back then and for some reason couldn't pronounce her favourite, plushy Elephant's name 'Snuggles' correctly. Her parents found it hilarious. All this memory does is remind her of the absence of her family. As if it weren't for Earleen, if it weren't for Adrian, if it weren't for the people of Eden or the duped government of Mars, she would never of set foot on Earth. She would never of left them behind. Gizmo makes his way onto Nila's shoulders as she ponders, Adrian and the doctor's footsteps growing ever so nearer.
'This is all your fault,' her thoughts swirl in her head but one in particular stays clear.
Finally, the door opens and the surprised, astonished look on Adrian's face is priceless as Nila charges at full speed at him like a enraged bull.
"This is all your fault!" she shouts aloud.
The doctor who was standing besides the old, musty door at the time steps in. His tall, fully grown adult frame towers over Nila, casting a shadow over the teenage girl. Intimidating, yes. But as the man flings his arms around Nila's waist to pry her from Adrian, Gizmo bares his massive, canine teeth and the small yet strong chimpanzee shoots off of Nila's back and onto the doctors face. Gizmo pummels his fists against the blinded doctors skull who has his hands gripping the monkey in a tight grasp in attempt to pry it off.
Nila bellows a mighty roar and tackles Adrian, however, she didn't take note of the staircase a few meters behind them and she hastily pulls away. As soon as she does, it's as it time slows itself down. The air becomes thick, their movements in slow motion as Adrian loses his balance and begins falling backwards with a terrified expression on his face. Nila tries to step out of the way of his flailing hands oh so, aggravatingly slowly but Adrian's fingers take hold of a fistful of Nila's now long, brown locks. Time seems to reset itself and they go tumbling down the white-tiled staircase together. The world doesn't seem to like her much as her back falls on every single sharp edge the staircase has to offer. Along with the stabbing pain in her stomach that Adrian kindly gave to her, her pain thermometer has just now exploded.
Nila eventually finds herself on her back and dizzily observes the spinning lights above her. She blinks once, then twice, then again. Trying to regain her sight and stop the ceiling from swirling around her. With a shake of her head, she props herself up on one elbow and eyes Adrian who seems to be regaining his composure as well. Nila grunts and props herself up on her knees. Adrian sets himself up as if he were about to do a push-up and tries to force himself on his feet. Both of them are deranged and in pain from the fall and so their attempts to both get back on their feet like two drunks is like watching the slowest mime show ever to exist.
"You...you had to go and make everything so difficult," Adrian mumbles as he stands up straight, unsteadily stepping towards Nila.
"Me?" she exclaims. "You're out of your mind!" Nila throws her hands out in front of her and laughs at the absurdity of it.
Adrian growls and careers towards Nila in an unsteady fashion however she still finds herself backing away. She only takes one step back until she realises that she's run out of space, below her the staircase continues off the small, flat square area Adrian and herself are standing on. With a gasp, Nila puts her fists up into a guard and puts all of her might into a heel kick to Adrian's stomach but he deflects it quite quickly with an inward block. Nila's eyes immediately shoot up to meet Adrian's in a shocked and confused manner. Her mouth hangs open as she ponders. He wasn't this strong before, perhaps the doctor did more favours for Adrian other than just promising to make her immortal. Her leg ends up being swung in the completely wrong direction and leaves her stomach wide open. With a glare, Adrian decides to pay back Nila's supposed-to-be heel kick with his own. A frightened scream echoes through the space they're fighting in as Nila falls, tumbles and rolls down the stairs. At the bottom, a loud thud can be heard as Nila's body slams against a wall awaiting her at the end of the staircase. She winces, tears brimming her eyes whilst a hand caresses the back of her head.
"Ah, ow," Nila mutters meekly as she examines her hands and arms.
Adrian ever so slowly makes his way down the staircase, one foot after the other. He shakes his head and clicks his tongue in bitter disappointment.
"You know what?" he asks, throwing a hand up then letting it drop at his side, though Nila doesn't bother guessing. "I've tried. I've been so patient. I had hoped you would've realised eventually how I really want what is best for you but...I guess not. You're always going to try to escape, aren't you? Well," he pauses for a moment, observing Nila's movements. "I'll promise you one thing."
Nila begins to prop herself up on her elbows but a heavy, booted foot brings her body back down on the freezing, white-tiled floor in an exhausted heap. Adrian roughly kicks Nila over and squats down beside the poor girl with a certain glint in his eyes.
"You'll never leave this godforsaken tower. You'll never see your friends again, in fact you'll never see anyone again. If I can't, neither should you." Adrian remarks and he snakes his hands around Nila's throat.
Nila's dark blue eyes widen to the size of golf balls and if this were a cartoon, little red exclamation marks would be present in her terrified eyes as she stares up at her captor. Her hands also grasp around her neck, digging her nails into Adrian's hands as they keep a strong vice-like grip around her neck.
"What's this supposed to be?" Nila questions him in a joking manner. "Hmm? What is it? If you can't have me no one ca-" Adrian squeezes her tightly, cutting of her airways. "-an?"
All Adrian says is, "You could say that," and shrugs.
Time flies past and she can already feel herself fading away. He isn't going to knock her out this time, no. He's going to suffocate her to death. Nila never thought he'd go that far, that he was too submerged in his "I Want What's Best For You, Im Just Trying To Protect You" facade. But as Adrian proceeds to strangle the life out of her, she's gravely disappointed. What looks like splatters of blackness start to line her vision, until they get bigger and bigger and bigger. Nila convulses and gasps for the sweet gas we call "Oxygen" but gets none. The blackness spreads, her muscles grow weak, her respiratory system desperately but ultimately failing to support her. Just as the darkness goes to smother her, fully taking away her sight, Sanctuary's beloved furry little friend comes to the rescue.
At the moment and the few that followed, Nila isn't exactly sure what happened. But there was blood and the sound of a male screaming in pain and the screaming of a chimpanzee. Vaguely, the memories only just a blur, Nila got on her feet and started running in an unknown direction. Dazed and confused, she stumbles down the hallways on the floor below Adrian and the doctor. Stopping for only a second to pick Gizmo up in her arms. Behind her, Adrian and the doctor, along with a few other people the doctor scrounged up whilst running for help, chase after her on a wild goose chase. But Nila's got one thing up her sleeves that they don't. She's got boldness, recklessness. She's got expierence. Not many other people can brag about running away from a four feet Rhino, plummeting to Earth in a space shuttle, escaping government facilities, getting kidnapped. So as her eyes set upon an open window in which a nurse is relaxingly smoking an e-cigarette by, she takes her chances. The nurse stares at the runaway girl doe-eyed, unaware of who she is and backs away.
"Whoa! Kid," she starts.
Nila sits herself on the ledge and peers down. Below her lays a fancy, architectural fountain that consist of a large rectangular block of water with a sculpture of the infamous Eden's code of arms "E" floating in the middle. From the tenth twelfth highest floor in the Tower, it looks like certain death to Nila.
"Kid, you wanna get down from there? Come on, I'll send ya to a nice lady. You guys can talk-" the lady blabbers on in a frantic tone but her voice in Nila's ears is much too far away and much less important.
In distress, Nila peers over her shoulder at the crowd chasing after her and knows in her heart that she needs to jump. Her options are as follows: either possible death or actual death. Therefore, Nila ends up going with option A, the fountain.
"This is insane," she grumbles under her breath, holds Gizmo tight and takes her leap of faith.
