Lock Up
Piper woke up cold and sore. Her hand rising to touch her head before her eyes had even opened.
Stitches. Her eyes had now opened to find her in what looked to be a cell, the cell of the wealthy, a cell which had a bed, a bathroom, books and what seemed to be a guard stationed outside a glass door.
Her fingers pressed in at the idea of where she was.
This causing her to wince at the pain of her fingers digging into the stitching, standing up and making her way to what seemed to be the bathroom.
A large mirror had been the first thing she saw, followed by the white marble looking sink unit, a large walk in shower and white towels covering a rack. She was a prisoner.
Although she hadn't been lumped in any old cell, this was as like a luxury cell.
She looked at her head in the mirror.
That's when the cause came flooding back to her, Eric. Eric had brought her here. The anger started to fill her gut.
She looked down at her body, her body that was now covered in a blue sheer shirt, with a blue vest like top underneath, a pair of blue tight trousers covered her legs. She was back where she started.
Erudite.
Jeanine had been involved.
The only thing she couldn't understand was how she was alive.
Eric should've killed her, hell, if she had been Eric, she would've killed her.
Walking backwards out the bathroom she made her way to the glass door, looking at the keypad beside it. Raising her fist she hit the glass as hard as she could. It had been frosted glass.
She could see the guard turn around and open what seemed to be another door in front of this one.
"Stand back" that had been a voice she recognised.
She had stayed where she was, firmly planted in front of the door, watching as this man shook her head from behind the frosted glass.
"Step the fuck back Piper" the further recognition had her stumble backwards alone.
She watched as the door opened in front of her, the uniform, the dark blue and black uniform of an erudite soldier covered his body, a knife had been tucked into a strap around his leg.
His brown hair had been slightly tangled.
The door slamming closed behind him.
She stepped further back at the sight of Peter Hayes, in the erudite uniform, working for Jeanine and Eric.
This entire time she had trusted him, she had loved him, and he had been playing her? Had he been on their side this whole time? Did he use her to follow Tris?
She felt like her heart had been ripped from her chest by his very hands.
He held a hand out and watched as she walked backwards shaking her head, knowing he couldn't be entirely honest with her. His best option to keep her safe was to have her like this, untrusting of him, unable to see the good in him. He had to make her believe he was this person.
If she were to find out that he had been the one to save her life, she would know he cared, that would be her downfall.
He couldn't allow her to try and save him.
Jeanine would kill them both if she thought they were working together.
"Piper" his voice was deep and cold. He sounded different, sounded like he didn't know the Peter she knew, that Peter was gone, he stood in front of her now, looking at her in a way she didn't recognise.
She shook her head once again.
"No" she blurted out, "you don't get to call me that" the look of disgust on her face hurt him.
He just couldn't show it, "what?" A low laugh erupted, "I can't call you by your name?" He had tried to make her sound stupid.
"Not like that, you can't speak to me as if you know me" his brows furrowed, "I don't know you, this you, that means you don't know me" she tried to stand tall, stay put where she was.
He was close, so damn close she could smell the sweet scent she loved so much.
"Except I do know you" his words came out in a hum, "I know you better than anyone, at least anyone living" he had been referring to her brother and Will, "I know how you think, how you strategise, I know it all" his hand clamped around her jaw forcing her to meet his eyes, "I know that the scars around your heart are still mine" he smirked down at her as if she the mouse and he had been the cat, "I know how you love Piper" his other hand found the back of her neck, tugging her hair harshly, "I know how you like to be touched" his thumb grazing over her bottom lip made her feel shameful. She stood her allowing him to toy with her.
She stepped back, knowing he would follow.
He did, until her calf's hit the mattress of the large bed in the corner of the room-cell.
Peter watched as her eyes went from looking empty to full, her eyes turning dark a smirk finding her lips, her arm raised and spun him around, using the advantage of surprise to have him fall onto the bed. Jumping atop of him before he could move. Straddling him.
He had initially gone to sit up, to grab her and throw her down to the bed.
That idea came to a halt at the feeling of cold metal against his neck, his hand reaching down to his thigh to feel the empty strap which once held his blade. The blade that Piper Canning now held to his neck.
Peter let his head fall back onto the duvet, allowing her to sit over him in as threatening of a way as she could.
He let his arms fall.
Piper stared intently, waiting for the concern to appear on his face, it didn't. She put slightly more pressure on his neck with the blade, ensuring it hadn't actually broke skin. He still lay there in silence, only irritating her further when a smirk found his lips and his eyes looked above her at the ceiling.
"Why?" That was all that had came to mind when she wanted to question him.
He again didn't meet her eyes, he did however roll his own before letting out a very obnoxious breath, trying to push her further.
"Why what Piper?"
"Why did you betray us?" She stared shaking her head, "why did you betray me?" It still didn't seem to capture everything she wanted to say, "I trusted you, I loved you and you handed me directly over to Jeanine" she sucked in a breath to avoid any tears, not allowing him the satisfaction of her tears, "I would never have done that to you".
Peter finally met her eyes, noticing their slightly watery look.
"I know, you wouldn't have the strength for it" he had entirely neglected her questions, only referring to her last statement made.
That had annoyed her, the blade pushing again, nicking the underside of her jaw at the angle she held it, she had the gut response to apologise and ask if he had been okay.
"You're vile" she spat his way, his eyes still on her in a taunting manner, "I could kill you right now, would that prove I had the strength for it?"
Peter's eyes trailed her body.
A smirk found his lips when his eyes met hers again. The feeling of his hands finding the outside of her thighs, she hadn't know what he was doing, nor why he was doing it. She assumed he was trying to distract her, knowing she had to stay focused. Peter was good at this sort of thing. Getting the better of her.
His eyes bore into her own, so much that she felt her chest rise and fall at a more rapid rate.
"Do it" he spoke in a more whispered tone, "stain these sheets with a traitors blood" his words had taken her by surprise, a dauntless was brave but not reckless, he was acting recklessly, "kill me Piper, I dare you"
She knew he was trying to provoke her.
She was aware that he thought her incapable of completing the task, following through on her threat. She also knew he was right.
Staring down at him while trying to pull the blade along his throat was practically impossible, no matter how much he'd hurt her, how much he'd broken any trust, she still in the deep depths of her blackening heart, still felt too connected to him to betray him the way he'd done her.
Perhaps others would believe she should've done this for her friends, because who knew if he'd sold them out too. Yet she sat here looking down at the man she had loved. Unable to hurt him.
Her hand fumbled around the handle, feeling the sweat build up in her palm.
This with a mix of her harsh swallow guaranteed Peter she wouldn't follow through, even if he had already known that himself. This gave him the opportunity, his hand came up from her thigh to her arm which connect to the hand that held the knife, pushing at backward and onto the duvet, rather aggressively at that his other hand finding her opposing shoulder while he grabbed the knife from her grip, pushing her down so they had now swapped and he sat over her.
Her hair had sprawled out over the soft linen, her shock of his sudden move giving him the time to tuck the knife back where it had initially been by her leg.
As soon as she tried to fight back he already held her wrists above her head, "don't" his voice warning.
She could only look at him with disgust, thinking he'd be relishing this, he was to some extent, having her this close again, having her beneath him. On the other hand he hated that it had come to this.
Feeling himself even get a tad distracted by how beautiful she had looked, he cleared his throat.
"You knew I wouldn't, didn't you?" She sounded as spiteful as she looked, he understood why of course, he just couldn't reveal that to her.
"Of course I knew" he let out the laugh he always did, the laugh that people knew him for, wicked and taunting all at once, "like I said, you lack the strength" she tried not to let his words hurt her, tried to pretend he didn't mean them, ironic considering he didn't, for the most part, "I'm surprised you got as far as you did in Dauntless" that hurt.
He watched her brows move in clear upset. Closing her eyes and breathing in.
When the reopened he still sat over her, straight faced, unyielding. She was stuck between her head and heart.
Her head was telling her he had been using her this entire time, he knew who she was in Dauntless, and purposely showed interest in her to be in the long game for Eric but her heart? Her heart told her something else was going on, that Peter was being bribed or used or perhaps even brainwashed, she couldn't have known.
She could try to find out.
"I know you too Peter" he was taken aback by the sudden softness in her voice, creasing his brows unsure what she was meaning, "I know this-" she looked at his position, "this isn't you" he let out a forced laugh, "you can tell me" she tried to reassure.
"Tell you what exactly?" Had he been that obvious with this?
"You can tell me what's really going on, I can help, we can get out of here" a smile found her lips, "together".
God, he had thought, he wanted nothing more.
He sat over her, looking down at the smile still on her lips, her eyes that engulfed him entirely. Ignoring every single urge in his body to kiss her and have them run away together.
Yet, he had to do the opposite to what he wanted.
A cynical laugh left his mouth, causing her smile to drop, she watched intently as he removed himself from her, she sat up, staying still after, "what is going to make it sink in Piper?" he lifted a hand to his jaw, wiping the almost dry blood as she stared back at him, "did you really think I wanted you, think I loved you?" She didn't like where this had been going, "I used you, and shit there had been so many times I thought I'd fucked it, when you told me you hated me and what not, when you left" he laughed once more, "and yet you were naive and stupid enough to come back every damn time" he started to turn his back.
She watch as he made his way to the door, she still sat on the bed, pulling her knees up to her chest, holding them tightly, while the tears that had been filling her eyes the more he spoke finally started to fall.
"That was your first mistake" he spoke as he opened the cell door, "believing that I, would want you"
