Chapter 5

I just sat down staring a Devlin's body trying to absorb it all. I was so lost in my grief that I didn't notice that Gabriel was hugging me, trying to comfort me. He kept repeating in a soft voice "It is going to be okay". I didn't shed a tear, but I was breaking down inside.

"Come on, we have to go alright." He said delicately like I was a precious piece of glass about to break. I wasn't glass but surely felt like it, cracking little by little.

I didn't reply and kept staring at the corpse in front of me. "I know you are upset, but we can't be caught in here." He tried again.

"You probably don't want to move so I am going to have to carry you." He said more to himself this time.

He scooped my small body up and left my former home through the back door. He walked through the busy streets and surprisingly didn't attract any attention carrying a grown woman in his arms. We when got the house we were staying in he put me down in my bed and tucked me in.

"You might feel drained so I am going to let you rest. If you need someone to talk too, I am here." He said gently.

I didn't respond instead I just nodded my head and drifted away into a dreamless slumber.

Gabriel POV

Finding Lilianna's ex – fiancé was defiantly a shock. When she realized he was dead, she looked so broken, so in pain. I wanted to help her feel better, but I didn't know how. I figured she would not be in the mood to investigate her interference, so I had to step up.

I could clearly remember the message that was carved onto the man's back "Should not have talked". Based on that, he told someone something very important. It could be something pertaining to Lilianna's death. It wasn't much, but we didn't have anything else to go on.

I pulled out my telemote, which was a device used to communicate with someone from another realm. I called Celeste so she could give some information on Lilianna's fiancé.

"Hello Celeste, do you think you can give information on Devlin Owen Gray, he was Lilianna's fiancé. This will help us find her interferer."

"Sure, what do you need to know?"

"The names of all the people he associated himself with frequently during the last 5 years and where he passed."

"He passed on to hell. Don't even think about going there, it is out of your jurisdiction. What is in hell stays there."

I rolled my eyes, "Okay Celeste, I know that. What are the names of the people?"

"Well, the names of people are Noah Price, Mason Kelly, and Lucas Fisher. One person who spent the most time with him recently is Jack Carter."

"Do you think you can send Jack Carter's file to my telemote?"

"It is done, good luck."

I figured that I should try and check that Jack Carter guy out. Devlin had to of told somebody something dangerous and Lilianna and I needed to find out what. I had to try to find details about where he hung out and so on. Since it was in the middle the day he would probably be at work. According to his file, he worked at an accounting firm downtown.

Before I left the house I popped in Lilianna's room to see if she sleeping. When I opened the door she was asleep and snoring very loudly. She looked like an angel, so innocent, but sounded like a tortured creature. She was truly something else. I silently snuck out of the house and drove the black convertible that was in the driveway.

I drove downtown and parked the car in a public parking space. I thought it best I walk around downtown a bit and not just remain in one place because that looked suspicious. I walked around all of downtown several times. About two hours had passed and my thighs were beginning to feel tight.

I saw a coffee shop across from Jack's office and decided to give my exhausted leg a break. I purchased a newspaper so I wouldn't look suspicious.

After a grueling hour of pretending to look interested in the newspaper, Jack walked pass the office building to go to his car in the back. I threw my newspaper down and rushed out of the café to access my car. As he passed my discreet parking spot, I turned on my engine and trailed behind him on the busy street. The silhouette of Jack appeared to be engrossed in a conversation. So engrossed that he didn't realize that a car was following him. He took an abrupt turn and drove to a bar.

I allowed him to go inside first before I followed. It was a cozy bar. The lights were dimly lit and there was a bar with about 15 seats and pool tables. I walked in and lingered by the pool table for a bit. I noticed how the bartender asked if Jack wanted the usual. It looked like he was a regular there. I sat down at the bar, as far away as possible from him. I got myself a rum and coke, to look natural in the environment.  After I was finished drinking, I left, pleased with myself with all the information I had gotten.

I drove home and when I went inside I saw Lilianna pacing around in the living room.

"What is wrong?" I asked her. I was concerned because she was in a fragile state.

Once she realized I was home she ran and hugged the life out of me. "Oh my gosh you are home! I was so worried about you. I thought something happened." She smacked my head and said, "Don't even do that to me again!"

I rubbed my head where she had smacked it and I said "I am sorry I didn't mean to make you worry. You were sleeping and I know you had a rough day and I didn't want to wake you up."

She sighed. "That's okay, I am glad you are safe, I can't have angel boy dying on me." She said with a smile.

"Well, it looks like your spirits have lifted."

"It has, but I don't really want to talk about it. What did you go out to do?"

"Why do you need to know, getting attached aren't we?" I asked with one eyebrow up.

She smacked my head again, "I am not getting attached I just want to know."

Rubbing my head I said "I went to find out some information about Jack Carter, your ex – fiancé's friend. I think Devlin might have told him something. Something that got him killed."

When I said that, Lilianna's demeanor went down. "Damn it!" I told myself. I looked at Lilianna and said, "I am sorry, I didn't mean to bring that up."

She replied faintly "I get it you were only trying to help. Anyway, you must be tired, I should let you get to bed."

"Lilia-" I started to say, but she was already gone.

Part of me wanted to go to her room and apologize again, but I decided that she would probably want some space. She cried into the late night and I couldn't help but feel guilty.
