Chapter 24
"I never thought I would say this. Daiyu, I love you!" I exclaimed. I grabbed her head to place a kiss on her cheek.
She blushed a crimson red and quickly rubbed the cheek that I pecked her on. She had a look of disgust smeared across her face. Normally I would have been hurt by that display of displeasure but I paid her no mind. I rejoiced for Daiyu held one part of the cup of existence in all of its infinite beauty.
"What happened Lilianna?!" Gabriel called out.
"She has the cup!" I exclaimed internally jumping up and down with pure excitement.
Atticus jogged over, huffing and puffing. Gabriel zipped to where I gleamed with joy. He ran so fast, all I saw was a white blur charging towards me.
He dropped down next to where I sat. He showed no sign of fatigue moving almost as fast as lightning.
"How did you do that?" I asked.
He shrugged, "You can say it's a gift."
He turned to Daiyu. "Is that really the cup?"
I smiled, "Indeed it is. Out of all of the places in the universe, I didn't expect it to be here. I guess Celeste sending us to this prison was a blessing in disguise."
He snatched the cup out of Daiyu's grasp with a bone-chilling grin on his face and a greedy look in his eyes.
"Hey! I had that first!" Daiyu screamed.
She stretched over me in an attempt to snatch it. Using all the strength I could muster, I pushed her back so she didn't have the opportunity to get her hands on the absolutely priceless item.
"You know the sight of that never gets old." Atticus breathed out as he popped on the floor close to Gabriel.
"Give me back that jewelry thingy! What do you need it for?! Stop stealing!" Daiyu screeched.
I sighed, "Let's just say that your existence along with everyone else's in the world depends on whether or not I get that jewelry thingy. Let it go please."
She squinted her eyes, "What the hell is that supposed to mean?"
I contemplated on informing her about the cup and mission. I decided against it because I wasn't sure that she would keep all the information quiet. She might reveal what we said to her master when she got back to Hell. That would put a target on our back which was something we couldn't afford.
"Well thi-" Gabriel started off but I slapped my hand over his mouth.
I moved him away from Daiyu and whispered in his ear "Don't tell her, it's too risky. I don't trust her at all."
He nodded his head, "Okay."
"I am sorry, I can't tell you that. It's a universal security matter." I answered her as calm as I possibly could. With her unpredictably I thought it best to avoid riling or upsetting.
"I understand, kind of. It never meant that to me anyway." She crossed her arms around her chest.
I chuckled under my breath. As crazy as she was she gave me a good laugh. First, she cried after the cup and then she said she didn't want it? Daiyu was several levels of confusing.
"So what about busting out here? If not then I need to make myself comfortable. I don't think that preparing for an eternity of imprisonment and misery would be easy." Atticus said.
Daiyu gasped dramatically, "Is that an intelligent sentence that came out of wiry head's mouth? I was beginning to think that you were dumb." She said with fake shock.
"Ha! You are the dumb one. I didn't say one sentence, I said two!" Atticus rebutted.
"Hey, hey! Listen the two of you need to stop acting like little children. Petty preschool arguments should be behind both of you. We all need to work together in order to get out of here. Put your differences aside for at least a while. Please!" I reprimanded them for their continuous, irritating banter.
Atticus bowed his head down. "Sorry Lilianna, we will try to get along." He said quietly.
"Yeah, sure," Daiyu grumbled, glaring at me once again.
I smiled out of satisfaction, "Good, now onto this power pit."
"Daiyu, Atticus, just hold hands and follow what I say," Gabriel said.
They joined hands and shut their eyes. "We give up thy power to breakthrough. We give up thy power to breakthrough. We give up thy power to breakthrough." They chanted in perfect harmony.
As they did that, as a small hole appeared in the middle of their circle. Initially, it resembled a pea but doubled in size. The black pit swirled with mist causing a gentle breeze to caress my face. That gentle breeze transformed into violent winds which propelled me backward.
Daiyu jumped down screaming leaving Atticus and Gabriel waiting for me.
"Come Lilianna!" Atticus shouted.
I ran against the wind towards the pit. Atticus and Gabriel grabbed my hands. I shut my eyes and dropped through the hole. I thought that descending would be terrifying but I had a feeling of serenity. Knowing nothing, letting go, losing yourself.
That peaceful moment went crashing down when my back hit the rocky ground. The sharp, abrasive edges of rocks, pierced through my skin making me wince in pain. I wasn't bleeding but I could feel the full effects on landing on such rough terrain.
Greeted by such an unpleasant landing, I couldn't help but wonder, where the hell are we?
