Chapter 10

My eyes fluttered open and I desperately tried to remember where I was. Everything ran back to me, the dragon meat, Jack, and those daunting red eyes. I had no idea what was going on.

I sat up from where I was laying down and observed my surroundings. I was in a compact dark room, with no windows and only a small bed in the middle of it.

There was one door and I attempted to open it, but it was bolted shut. I tried and tried, but it wouldn't budge. There were a million questions going through my mind. What was Jack, I knew for sure, that he wasn't human. Why would he kidnap me? The most important question was what is all of this? I was in a situation where I didn't know what was going on. I was scared out of my mind.

After trying to pry the door down, I cried for help. "Can someone get me out of here? Help! Please!" I screamed at the top of my lungs again and again until my throat was aching and my voice became hoarse. I felt weak. My body was limping and my mind was giving up. Extremely drained, I slumped against the metal door and fell fast asleep.

I slept until I was awakened by someone unlocking what kept me in my tiny prison. I immediately jumped out of the way, so possibly, I could make a run for it once the person fully opened the door. The identity of the person who unlocked it surrendered me frozen.

It was Celeste, Gabriel's boss. What did she have to do with me being kidnapped? How did she tie into all of this I wondered.

Her silver hair was in a bun and she had a floor length, flowing black dress with gold embroidery. Her gaze upon me was sharp, almost coming off as a silent message to obey everything she said.  "Come with me" she commanded.

I was so taken aback, I just went with her without making a peep. I thought she was alone, but she had two guards walking alongside her. She didn't say anything else, but the sensible part of me knew not to try anything. Celeste seemed very intimidating and the tall, muscular guards were worse.

We walked through tons of empty hallways, which were all pitch black. Wherever I was, it was barren. On all of those walls, I did not see a single photograph, art piece or anything of the sort. The whole place gave off an eerie feeling. I seriously didn't know how they didn't get lost in that place. It was huge. They stopped walking when we approached a simple room. It was nothing big, it had a desk, some chairs, and a small couch. Both of the guards stayed outside of the room.

"Sit down," Celeste told me, gesturing to the guest seat. She sat down on the opposite side of the desk and stared at me with a blank expression on her face for several minutes.

I cleared my throat, feeling uncomfortable with someone just staring at me. It sent a shiver down my spine, I didn't like it at all.

"Lilianna, I have some things to discuss with you." She said so calmly it could be mistaken for cold.

"Before we discuss anything how about talk about why I was kidnapped," I said with my voice rising with each word. I finally put on my brave pants. I was tired of being manipulated and moved around like some animal. People were always saying do this and do that without giving a proper explanation. I hated being left out in the dark. I needed to understand.

"I needed to talk to you and wanted you to get here in a safe manner." She answered me.

I had a good, hard look at her face and it didn't give away anything. Completely emotionless, a vast contrast from the Celeste I first met. Was anyone who I thought they were anymore? The only person who remained the same through this whole experience was Gabriel. I certainly hoped it would stay that way.

"I have something really important to say and I need you to listen." She said sternly.

I was debating whether to stay there and listen or try to run away. Considering there were two men guarding the door and the fact that I didn't know where I was, I decided to stay.

She cleared her throat and asked, "Do I have your attention?"

I nearly jumped out of my seat and quietly replied "Yes ma'am please go on with what you have to say."

"Okay then. Let me tell you the tale of the world. I don't think this is everything, but it's what I know. The great God Augustino was the creator of Life and Death, the balance between Good and Evil. He made earth what it is today. He created humans, animals and the like. When they died, they went to Nova, which was the spiritual world that he ruled over and became Dengels. He was by himself until he married a twight named Agatha. Twights were Dengels that had the gift of telling the future."

She took a deep breath and started talking again "Anyway, Augustino and Agatha had two sons. The older one was Bestellarius and the younger one was Fernalio. Both boys grew to be strong, good-natured men or at least that's what their parents thought. The sad thing was they their hearts had been claimed by darkness and they would be a threat to everyone in existence. Augustino taught them about ruling Nova and was ready to pass over the throne to Bestellarius for he was the oldest. Bestellarius didn't want to be ruler, but his little brother Fernalio wanted to. They approached their father about that, but he wouldn't hear of it. Feeling disappointed Fernalio came up with a plan. He created a poison that would destroy any kind of being, even a god. The brothers conspired to kill their father so Bestellarius would become ruler and pass it down to Fernalio. Fernalio put the poison in his father's wine and he started to become weaker and weaker with each passing day. The best healers couldn't figure out what was wrong, Immortals shouldn't become sick, but somehow Augustino was. The day he passed away, Bestellarius immediately took over.

"What about Agatha?" I asked.

Celeste pointed her finger at me and said calmly " Do not interrupt me."

She then continued "Agatha became suspicious about her sons, but they killed her before she had the chance to voice anything. Everything after that was fine until Bestellarius refused to pass the throne down to Fernalio, like they originally agreed. Fernalio was furious and that was when Nova split. Instead of everything evil and good living together in one spiritual world, Heaven and Hell were created. Both men forced the Dengels to pick a side or be killed. The only Dengels who they didn't force to take a side were the judges. People go the heaven to hell randomly, it doesn't have anything do with what you did in your life. The world has a view of Heaven being "good" and Hell being "evil" but when in reality they are both horrible. Not necessarily the spirits that dwell there, just their rulers."

I sighed and asked, "While this story sounds interesting, what does this have to with me?" I would have hated for her to kidnap me just to tell me a legend, no matter how intriguing it was.

She smirked, "Well you do want to know who killed you, right?"
