Chapter 43 // Real Estate
Adelaide's Point of View
"I love this one," I gushed, spinning around to get another view of the entire area.
"Me too," Calum agreed, swinging his arm around my shoulder and pressing a kiss onto the side of my head. "How soon do you think we can move in?"
We have been with our realtor for the whole day, attempting to discover the perfect residency for us. Nothing has caught our attention except for this little townhouse that was in a nice neighborhood that was up for rent, and also came fully furnished. It was within our budget and it had three bedrooms- one downstairs and two upstairs- which would be the perfect set-up when the boys got here.
Our real estate agent was on the phone, desperately trying to get in contact with the seller so we could discuss moving in. I adored every aspect of this home and I couldn't picture myself living anywhere else.
"Good news," Mr. Jamison declared as he ended the call. "You two just got yourself a new place to live!"
I cheered loudly, wrapping my arms around Calum's neck in an excited embrace. Mr. Jamison continued to discuss all of the legal and financial stuff that I unfortunately tuned out. All that I paid attention to was the fact that we would miraculously be able to move in tomorrow.
Calum thanked our realtor again before we both left our new home and slid inside of my car. I had gotten better at driving in the past week of being home, but he was still a little uneasy with having me not on the passenger side where I belong.
"We're going to be officially living together, baby," Cal exclaimed, his cheeks lifting up into a large smile at merely the mention of it. "Like I know we basically were living together because of all our sleepovers and now staying at your parents house but like this is the real deal. This is our house."
"Technically its the landlord's," I sneered, making him roll his eyes at my snide comment. "It's still exciting, though. I hope the guys love it as much as we do."
"Of course they'll love it! It has a freakin' hot tub in the backyard. What more could they want?"
I smiled as I turned the final corner onto the street I grew up on. "I hope they don't get weirded out with me living there though. Like what if they bring a girl home to hook-up with and I'm chilling on the couch in my pajamas, stuffing my face with chips, and it just ruins the whole mood and they lose out on their chance of getting a girlfriend that they might fall in love with because they-"
"Ad," Calum groaned, interrupting my rambling with a hint of annoyance laced in his tone. "Please shut up. You're over-thinking this. It's going to be fun. They're my best friends and they love you. It'll be like a giant party all the time."
"We should keep track of how many times Luke walks in on us," I suggested, laughing slightly at the memory of last time when we were in Sydney.
"Well, we've got one so far," Calum pointed out, joining me in the chuckles as I finally parked in the driveway and twisted the keys out of the ignition. "Wait, don't get out."
I furred my eyebrows together in confusion, but I obliged, simply unbuckling my seat-belt and staying in the car. Cal got out of the vehicle and tried to skim his butt across the front of it to slide to the other side like in those action movies, but instead he collapsed onto the ground due to his lack of coordination. I instantly burst out laughing as he scrambled to his feet, dusting off the dirt from the pavement and opened up the door for me.
"You are truly the biggest idiot I've ever met," I stated with amusement, lifting one finger under my eyes to wipe the tears from laughing so hard.
He shot me one of those goofy grins as he stuck his elbow through mine to escort me inside of the house. "It was supposed to be a super cool romantic gesture, Ad."
"I appreciate the effort, Sex-God," I joked, placing a kiss on his face that was altering to a shade of crimson resulting from the embarrassment.
The two of us stumbled inside through the front door, with Calum whispering something along the lines of "Damn right I'm a Sex-God" in my ear which was making me giggle, and neither of us were really paying attention to the cluster of people in the family room as we kicked off our shoes. Until we heard a voice that didn't belong to my parents pierce our eardrums.
"Hey guys," Ashton spoke nonchalantly.
I glimpsed up, noticing that the two boys from Sydney were actually huddled around the couch with my parents and that I wasn't hallucinating. My vision flickered between them and Calum, both of us equally stunned by their presence, before I finally screamed in delight and raced towards them.
Luke stood up off the sofa and I lunged onto his extremely tall body, locking my legs around his waist and my arms around his neck, causing him to nearly topple over due to my bear hug. I could feel him chuckling underneath me as I inhaled the familiar musky scent of Calum's flirty best friend. "Lukey! Welcome to America!"
He beamed at me before placing me down on the ground, planting a small friendly kiss on the apples of my cheeks. "Aw Addy, it's so good to see my beautiful secret girlfriend again."
"You wish, Hemmings," Calum responded, pushing me out of the way so he could embrace Luke.
I hugged Ashton who was directly next to Blondie, and his buff arms tightly enveloped me into his chest like a brother protecting me from danger. I had missed this boys so much more than I expected, and I was so thankful that I wouldn't have to leave them behind in America as well. Most importantly, I was more grateful that they had did this for my boyfriend and that their value on his happiness was adorable. "I can't believe you didn't tell us you were coming, Ash. We could have easily picked you up or something."
"I don't know if we wanted you to drive us. Someone told us you are a terrible driver," Ashton teased.
I turned towards Calum, who was still grinning from ear to ear from whatever conversation he was murmuring to Luke earlier, but he stuck his palms up in the air in defense.
"It was me," My dad confessed, making the room burst into hysterics. I had almost completely forgotten that they were in the room which made me slightly uncomfortable that they watched our little exchange.
"Well, Mom and Dad, to formally introduce you, these are Calum's best friends but they're also my close friends as well," I said, placing my hands out like a game-show host that I was displaying the prices.
Luke's arm crept around my waist and pulled me tightly against his side. "Actually, Addy and I are more than just friends. I know you thought this handsome guy over here who moved out here to be with your daughter was her boyfriend, but don't be fooled by Cal. It's me. Isn't that right, honey?"
I chuckled, pushing him away from me, although I did find his sense of humor amusing. Surprisingly, my parents did as well, and they joined him in the contagious laughter since they must have already been very aware of his playful personality.
Luke shook his head. "I'm just kidding. Calum and Addy are like the cutest couple ever. I'm really glad I'm going to be able to live with you guys. I mean, Ash and I have only been in America for a few hours now and I'm already loving it."
"Speaking of living together, how did the house hunting go today?" My mom asked, and I know the inner HGTV freak inside of her was about to come out soon and speak about her love for hardwood floors or something of that nature.
Calum's brown eyes locked on mine as that cute smile reappeared on his face. This was his first time living in home that didn't belong to his family, and his eagerness was clearly visible. "Um, we found a perfect townhouse today for the four of us and we got it."
A chorus of cheers circled throughout my childhood home. Suddenly we were both being bombarded with questions on all of the major and minor details. It felt a little surreal that we actually had the opportunity to all be together right now.
--
"I'm cold," I whined, yanking the sleeping bag even further up my body so only my eyes were touching the cold midnight wind that was whipping against us.
After several hours of hanging out, Ashton found out that there was still a trampoline in my backyard and he forced the four of us to have a sleepover out there like we were tweens again. I was on the edge, the net only a few inches away from me, because Calum didn't trust Luke to keep his hands to himself if I was squeezed in between the two of them. His jealous side was kind of hot.
"Stop being a wimp, Addy," Ashton yelled from the other end of the bouncy trampoline who was snuggled up with my old princess comforter. His hazel eyes were directed at the dark sky up above that was only illuminated by the various stars. "This is nature. This is great. This is going to be a rocking time."
"If we rock on this thing we're going to break it. I'm pretty sure there is only like a three person limit," Luke muttered, reading off the hazard label that was stitched on the trampoline right near his head.
I cuddled closer to Calum as another freezing breeze tickled my skin. "Come here, baby," Calum cooed, unzipping his own sleeping bag so I could curl up right against his warm body. My head rested upon his chest, feeling his heartbeat pound through his hoodie.
"Aww, come here baby!" Ashton mocked as his arms wrapped around Luke. They both laughed obnoxiously before breaking apart, and I couldn't help but crack a smile.
Calum's hand was stroking my hair, his fingers combing through each strand as if it was a lush field of wheat. "Screw you guys. You better get used to this if you're living with us. We cuddle a lot," Calum warned them
"Ash and I cuddle a lot too, Cal. You're not the only softie in our group," Luke defended, crossing his arms over his chest.
"We're better cuddlers," Calum protested, squeezing me even tighter as if to prove a point.
"No, you two are better at being lame. Hemmings and I are going to throw some parties and show you two how to have a good time. Actually, we're going to have some full on bangers. Be prepared, it's going to be pretty hardcore," Ashton declared proudly.
I chuckled. The way these boys conversed always made it seem like there was some sort of never-ending competition between them. They had such a cute bromance and I loved just watching them interact. It was completely different than my friendship with Michael, Lucy and Margo who were always stored in the back of my mind.
"Ash you are currently swaddled in a princess blanket and suggested we all had a slumber party. I think you've already reached the top of the hardcore scale," I teased, making the four of us all share some more laughter.
Calum's finger tilted my chin up and he pressed a gentle kiss against my lips when he noticed a yawn escape my mouth. It was a short peck, but I still enjoyed the fact that he wasn't afraid to kiss me in front of his friends. "I'm probably going to fall asleep soon. You guys can keep talking though, I'm a heavy sleeper. Goodnight everyone, I love you all, and I'm glad I'm going to get to have a sleepover with the three of you every night."
They each said goodnight to me before picking back up into some nonsense conversation that I didn't understand. I listened to their chatter for a few minutes until my eyes finally fluttered closed and I fell asleep on Calum's toned body.
