Chapter 26 // Sydney

Adelaide's Point of View

My frustration with Calum continued to grow with each second. After I had made sure that Michael was okay I ran towards his house but it was too late. He had already thrown a duffel bag into his car and sped off into the distance, without even listening to a word I had to say. I know from his perspective it did look like I was eager to date Mikey, but the accusation that I would ever cheat on him, especially after the recent events, stung like a bumble bee.

I knocked on the front door, my knuckles pressing against it with force. Mali opened it up within seconds and she had a cheery smile on her face, her happiness practically radiating off of her body like sunshine. "Hey, Addy!"

"Hi Mali. Do you have any idea as to where Calum just went? I really need to talk to him," I begged, hoping that she would have some kind of information on her brother's whereabouts.

She nodded her head. "Yeah, he went to Luke and Ashton's for the weekend. They visit each other all the time since they are like super close and best friends."

I sighed. "He's not supposed to be going there until next weekend!" I complained, running a hand through my hair. "I swear to God, he is purposely driving me insane. Okay, well do you happen to have their address?"

Mali-koa scrunched her lips up. She stared at me blankly for a few moments, her brown eyes seeming glassy and dazed. "I know exactly where it is. And I can drive you up there in like an hour if you'd like? I was planning on going to Sydney anyways to go shopping with my friends, but I can pull some strings and we can leave earlier for you."

My arms threw themselves around her, pulling my boyfriend's sister in for a bear hug. She chuckled loudly as Mali gave in to the embrace and snuggled her head against my shoulder, just like how her brother does. "Thank you so much! You are an absolute life-saver and a sweetheart. I can't thank you enough!"

Mali giggled again, rolling her eyes at me. "It's no problem, Addy. Go get ready. I'll come over in an hour or so, okay?"

The drive to Sydney was much shorter than I imagined it to be. Granted, I was completely unaware of Australia's geography, but I didn't expect to be only a forty-five minute drive up to the beautiful city. It truly was gorgeous and I was jealous of Ashton and Luke for being able to live here. I asked Mali if there actually was a dentist office on 42 Wallaby Way, but she just laughed at me. I had informed her on what had happened that made it so vital that I see Calum, and she completely agreed with me, which was reassuring in itself.

"Thank you so much," I repeatedly told her again as we pulled into their driveway. Their small home was flooded with cars which I found odd, and sure enough Calum's was parked in the midst of them. "Cal will probably be able to drive me home, but if not, I'll call you. Thanks again, Mali."

She just nodded, waving away my gratitude as if giving me a ride up here was no big deal. I sauntered up the driveway, inhaling and exhaling in slow breaths to prepare myself. I gripped tightly onto my tote bag that had necessities in case I needed to sleep over.

After knocking several times with no response, I decided to just let myself in. Music was blaring all throughout the house and I doubt anyone could have even heard me. The place reeked of alcohol and sweat and I glimpsed around. Every face was unfamiliar and they all had a bottle of beer pressed to their lips or were dancing wildly to the music. I was shocked at first to see people so openly drinking without a care in the world, but then I recalled that the drinking age here was much younger than the strict one in America, making this perfectly legal.

I stepped inside, dropping my bag onto the floor. All of the girls at this party were clad in either tight dress or short skirts, yet I was sporting a pair of high-waisted shorts and a loose-fitting t-shirt that would flow and twirl in the gusts of wind.

An incredibly drunk boy wearing a snapback backwards on his head slung his arm around my shoulder. "Hey, babe! Who are you? You look like you can twerk, let's go see if that's true," He slurred.

"No, I'm alright," I replied, trying my best to shake the grimey boy off of me. "Have you seen Calum anywhere?"

"Who the hell is Calum?" The guy yelled, laughing loudly. "You're crazy, woman. Come on, let's go dance!"

"Jacob," A menacing voice called. The guy, who I'm assuming is named Jacob, released me from his grip. I turned around, seeing Ashton standing behind on us. "Katie wants to talk to you. You should go and leave my friend alone."

Jacob shrugged before dashing off into the swarm of people grinding against each other. I smiled at Ashton, feeling much more comfortable. He pulled me in for a hug and his familiar buff arms enveloped around my petite body. "What are you doing here, Addy?"

"I need to speak with Calum," I explained. "I wasn't really expecting to come to a party, obviously. But do you have any idea where he is?"

Ashton chuckled, the delightful sound ringing through my ears. "No, I'm sorry. He's around here somewhere. Let's go find Luke. He was just with Cal."

Ashton protectively wrapped an arm around my waist as he escorted me throughout his home, shielding me away from the meaty boys who wouldn't remember any of their embarassing behavior tomorrow. We shuffled through the crowd before spotting the blonde quiff at a table of beer-pong. His blue eyes met mine and a gigantic grin spread onto his face as he recognized me.

"Addy!" Luke cheered, giving me another deep embrace. "How have you been, beautiful? What are you doing here? I've missed you a lot. You want something to drink?"

He was obviously tipsy, which made his rambling somewhat amusing. Luke gulped down whatever was in his red plastic cup and offered it to me, but I politely declined. Ashton walked away, leaving the two of us alone. "I've missed you too, Lukey. Can you help me find Calum?"

"Sure, babe. Anything for my lil Adelaide," Luke cooed, pinching my cheeks. I couldn't help but crack up.

Luke grasped my hand and lead me towards another room. One of Jacob's friends whistled at me, which made me roll my eyes. "Don't even think about it, Tony!" Luke shouted over his shoulder. I smiled at how protective Calum's friends were over me, even in their drunken state.

The adjacent living room had two small sofas in it, one of which where my boyfriend was perched. There were two fake blondes sitting next to him and he didn't seem to be enjoying himself; his gaze was fixated on the floor.

"Tiffany and whatever your friend's name is, let's go," Luke demanded, motioning them to follow me. They reluctantly stood up in confusion. "Come on, we're going to go dance."

Calum's eyebrows knitted together at the sight of me, most likely confused on what the hell I was doing here. "Addy? How did you get to Luke's?"

I plopped down on the couch next to him, folding my legs up in my lap. "Your sister drove me. Will you please give me five minutes to explain myself?" I pleaded, hoping his pissed-off face would diminish.

He nodded hesitantly, slouching back against the sofa. I tucked a piece of hair beneath my ear before continuing. "So Michael likes Lucy, and Lucy likes Michael. He wanted help on how to tell her his feelings so I pretended to be Lucy to practice. What you heard me say was me pretending to be Lucy, not actually me. I would never date Michael. I'm in love with you."

Calum's chocolatey brown eyes widened in suprise. He scratched the back of his neck awkwardly before coughing. "Oh. So I really made a big deal out of nothing?"

I chuckled at the truth lying in his statement. "Yeah and if you would have just stayed five minutes longer I wouldn't have had to haul my butt up to Sydney into some stupid party where guys want to snatch me."

His ears perked up at the mention of other boys, which somehow made relief wash over me that he was still able to get jealous. "I didn't know there was going to be a party tonight either. And well, I'm sorry for that and for accusing you of cheating. I didn't think it was true but it just hurt, you know? And I still don't like you hanging out with Clifford."

"I know," I admitted quietly, that guilt swirling around my stomach again. "But in my defense, the only reason I invited him over was because he wanted to apologize to you. I finally got him to believe you were innocent."

Calum's prominent jaw dropped instantly, his mouth lingering open in utter surprise. "What? How? You did?"

I grinned at him, placing my hand on his thigh. "I kind of made him feel really bad and questioned his character and then something clicked and next thing I knew he was crying."

Calum's lips collided with mine as soon as I finished speaking, as if he was praising me for convincing Michael about the truth. I pulled on the back of his neck, bringing our bodies even closer together. "I love you," He hummed.

"I love you too," I stated happily, leaping off of the sofa and tugging on his toned bicep, feeling it flex beneath my palm. "Can we go dance? We might as well enjoy the party."

He giggled, wrapping his arm securely around my waist and lifting up his red cup that was on the floor to his lips, gulping it down. I glimpsed inside and grimaced when I noticed the yellow-brown colored liquid. He told me he swore to never drink after what happened with Ellie. "It's apple juice, baby," Calum informed me with a small smirk, obviously amused with my concern.

We shuffled through the sweaty bodies until we were comfortable and I spun around, immediately placing my butt against his crotch and swaying to the beat of the music. His laughter vibrated through me as his large hands found my waist, guiding along with me. I could feel his abs against my back through his flimsy t-shirt, and as much as I enjoyed the position we were in, I couldn't take the dance seriously. "This is so weird," I mused, chuckling uncontrollably as I broke the bonding of us.

Calum simply shrugged, before busting out some cheesey boyband-like dance moves which included jumping vertically with one hand in the air and then doing some floppy spin on the balls of his feet. My laughter only grew louder as I lip-synced along to the pop hit with him.

It was moments like these where I realized just how much I loved Calum. He wasn't just some boy I liked to make-out with. He was my best friend in the entire world. Seeing him be him complete self without a care in the world was beautiful. No one here knew about his past and the only judgements he had about him was that he was a terrible dancer. It's astonishing how someone else's happiness can play such an active role in mine.
