Chapter 16 // Dip
Adelaide's Point of View
Unraveling in front of us was an enormous pier. Large wooden planks were held up by large wooden pillars underneath it, steadying the walkaway and preventing it from collapsing. A string of lights were effortlessly hung around the railings, illuminating the ocean water. The waves here were much calmer than near my home. They only crashed genty against the cold rocks surrounding the pillars.
"It's absolutely beautiful," I exclaimed.
Calum scratched the back of his neck. "Come on, let's go sit up there."
I nodded, following him as he lead me down the sturdy pier until he found a suitable spot for us to plop down onto. We sat with our feet dangling off the edge, kicking our feet back and forth and still not being close enough to get a touch of the waters. We sat in silence, our shoulders touching and both of our eyes scanning the completely baron area. "What do you usually think about when you're up here?"
He shrugged. "I can't pinpoint one thing. Lately it's been a lot about my parents, you, Michael, Ellie, and random memories. It just clears my head out here."
I rested my head against his shoulder. "Are you ever going to tell me about Ellie?"
Calum pursed his lips together. "I will eventually. Why don't you tell me the real reason why you moved here? Like why did you pick this washed up, deadbeat town?"
"Well I wanted to live in Adelaide or Sydney, but the money that my parents had given me and the money I had saved up was not enough for me to afford a decent home there. So my real estate agent suggested this and I ended up here. That's it. But if you were to ask me why I dropped out if college that would be a much longer story."
Calum picked my hand up off of my lap and intertwined our fingers together again. His thumb rubbed against my thumb, causing butterflies to return. "Okay, Addy. Why did you drop out of university?"
I paused, accumulating my thoughts. "Because I hated it. I enjoyed the social aspect and the independence that came with living at school, but I hated my classes and my generic major. I hate the way we grow up with our future constantly taunting us. You have to do well in high school to do well in college so you can get a good job and pay for your children to do the same exact thing. Everyone lives in either the future or the past and it consumes each second of their days. Why doesn't anyone live in the present? Why don't we not waste all of our time doing these we don't like? That's why I moved to Australia. I wanted a change of mind where I didn't have to be afraid of the future. All I want to do here is make the most of every moment."
Calum arched his eyebrows at me, letting out an exasperated breath. "Wow," He stated, shaking his head at me with a small smirk. "Okay then, Miss Winters, what would you like to do to make the most of today?"
I glanced around at the dark sky and the completely empty pier. My eyes glimmered with mischief. I grinned, leaping to my feet within an instant. "Let's go skinny dipping."
"What?" Calum choked, his saliva getting caught in his throat.
I giggled, tugging my shirt over my head and throwing it onto the boardwalk. "Come on, I've already seen you naked!"
He stood up as well. "I know, but like, what if we get caught?"
I weaved out of my shorts, letting them fall down to my ankles. "That just makes it more exciting," I persuaded as I unclasped my bra. Calum's eyes peered over my body as I slid my underwear off and placed it with the pile of clothes.
The night time air was cold and I began shivering, eager to get into the warm water. Calum was still frozen still, just staring at me for what felt like centuries. "Alright," He finally stated, climbing out of his clothes as well, revealing his toned abdomnials that were way too attractive.
I leaped off of the pier, a thrill of exhilaration rushing through my body as the ocean water smothered every inch of my body. It was a pecuilar feeling to not have the barrier of a bikini on. Calum jumped in shortly after me and his cheering was being muffled by the water. When he resurfaced, I giggled, swimming over to him.
The moonlight reflected off the beads of the ocean water that lingered on his nose, making him look even more attractive than usual. I ducked underwater again, chuckling each time I came up for breath. It was thrilling being out in the open in the nude. "This is fun," I exclaimed.
Calum laughed. "Yeah but I mean it's just like we're taking a bath in a giant bathtub filled with tons of fish and sharks and we're giving a show to anyone who might be awake and staring out of their window right now."
I splashed him with water, making him laugh even harder. "Ew, now this seems gross," I remarked, scrunching my nose up.
He beamed at me, his hands pulling on my waist and colliding our bodies together. I wrapped my bare legs around his stomach, which I had to admit felt extremely odd, and one of his hands traced over my breasts. "Girls are so cool. I wish boys had boobs."
"You're a dork," I teased, biting my lip as he massaged the lump of skin. "You could have man boobs if you wanted."
"That would defiinitely get me all the ladies, wouldn't it babe?" Calum joked, never moving his left hand from my chest.
I leaned forward and kissed his neck fiercely, leaving various purple marks on it. It was a beautiful contrast to his bronze toned skin. "I happen to like you just the way you are."
He shifted his head so our lips would meet. I felt like I haven't kissed him in ages, when in actuality I had early this morning. The feeling I got when my stomach churned with butterflies was one that I could never get enough of. I was addicted to Calum Hood.
"Babe," Calum called, breaking the kiss. "Treading water and making out is really hard to do."
"Wimp," I stated, sticking my tongue out at him. I unlocked my legs from around his back and swam towards the shore. I sprinted up to our spot on the pier and covered myself up with my clothing as quickly as possible. Calum did the same, both of us struggling due to the way the clothes clung onto our wet bodies.
I snickered as he fumbled to pull his shirt over his head and I assisted him by gripping onto the fabric and pushing into the side, allowing his head to break through. I scruffed his drenched hair up a bit. "It's been a pleasure visiting your happy place, Mr. Hood."
"And it's been a pleasure seeing your butt again, Miss Winters," Calum sneered, making the two of us crack up as I gently smacked his arm and darted away from him. His hands grasped my waist from behind and he picked me up, twirling me around in the air as I squealed. When he placed me back on my feet there was a kiss being planted onto my cheek. "You're the best, Ad."
I smiled brightly at him. "You're okay."
Calum gasped, which only made me chuckle even more. I laced our fingers together and tugged him along the pier, desperately wanting to go warm up inside his home. "I was kidding, by the way," I assured him.
He rolled his brown eyes that reminded me so much of chocolate that my tummy instantly craved a brownie and it'sdelictable fudge quality. "So was I."
I hit his stomach lightly again, giggling at his sarcasm. If we didn't have the same sense of humor this would have been incredibly difficult to be together. I absolutely hated when I was joking around with someone and they took it offensively or the wrong way. I never would purposely hurt someone's feelings and when I do it on complete accident I feel like shit for a solid three weeks. But with Calum, I don't have to worry about that.
The journey back to his home felt shorter. It could be because of the fact that our feet were moving more rapidly since we were both soaking wet and our stench of seawood was smothering our lungs, or because I actually knew the destination this time.
"You're still sleeping over, right?" Calum clarified, unlocking his back door with a small key. I nodded to confirm this and an adorable smile grew on his face. "Good, don't be afraid of those losers downstairs."
"Those losers are horrible at picking out films," I told Calum with a small laugh, being reminded of that horrid documentary. I stepped inside his home, hearing some water drop onto the tile floor of his kitchen. "Can I take a shower? I smell terrible."
"Can I join you?" He asked cheekily, winking at me in a suggestive manner.
I put my hands on his chest. "I think you've seen me naked enough today, lover boy."
His calloused palms found the sides of my hips within in an instant and he shook his head, pecking my lips swiftly. "It was dark out! I couldn't see anything!"
"Goodnight, Cal," I said, dismissing his comment and kissing him again before departing up his stairs and heading for his bathroom. I was eager to rid myself of the ocean waves that had violated me.
--
An enormous grimace was shared on their faces as they gripped their suitcases and chucked them into the back of their trunk with a thud. I leaned against the vehicle, watching the three boys share a conversation. They all seemed equally disappointed in their departure.
We had spent the whole day together again, playing various video games and having numerous dance parties. I did my best to stay out of the center of attention and let the best friends savor their time together before Luke and Ashton would be heading back up to Sydney.
"I'm gonna miss you, bro," Luke declared, his pale blue eyes flickering with utter sadness. Calum and the blonde shared a hug, both of their arms wrapped tightly around each other's bodies. "I really wish you would come up there with us. It would be so much fun if it was the three of us all the time."
"I know. I'll talk to my mum again but it probably won't happen," He explained, shaking his head in annoyance at the mention of his mother. "At least I'm staying with you guys for a week next month and not just a weekend."
"Hey," Ashton butted in. "It's not my fault some of us actually have jobs," He teased and ruffled Calum's dark locks, a smile forming on my boyfriend's lips.
"Are you going to come up with him, Addy?" Luke called over to me. I was still hiding out away from them, not wanting to interrupt their exchange.
I shrugged my shoulders. "I don't know. It's up to Calum. I really don't want to ruin your guy time again."
Luke whined, shuffling over to me and enveloping me in a hug. He kissed the top of my head in an obnoxious manner, which made me giggle involuntarily. "You don't interrupt anything, Ad. You should come. You make Calum happy and you're much cooler than him."
Calum chuckled loudly, gripping onto Luke's shoulder and peeling him off of my body. "Maybe I won't bring Addy with me since you can't seem to be able to keep your hands off her, Hemmings."
Luke grinned innocently, giving Calum an embrace again. Ashton waved me over and I leaped into his arms, mimicking Calum and Luke's embrace. "It was really nice meeting you," I cooed. "I hope I see you guys again. Thank you for everything."
"Thanks for taking care of my boy," Ashton said sincerely as we dettached our bodies from each other. He glimpsed down at the shiny watch that was evident on his wrist and his hazel colored eyes widened. "We have to get going, I'm sorry. Cal it's been so great seeing you so happy. Keep it up. I love you, man."
The mop of curly hair levitated towards Calum as they both enveloped each other into a hug. It was adorable. We stated our goodbyes again after another round of hugs and "love you's" were dispersed. Calum swung one arm over my shoulder as they entered their car and prepared for the trip home. "Call us when you get home safely!" I yelled before Ashton could close his door. He held his thumb up out of the sun roof to insure that he had heard me.
"You have amazing friends."
Calum grinned down at me, although his chocolate eyes were still filled with melancholy. "Yeah, I do."
