Juliet Barnstead did everything she could to fit in. She went to the occasional party, kept away from drugs as much as possible, but didn't shy too far away from alcohol and what kids these days call "having a good time". She had a steady job, one that could keep her going until she left the Outer Banks for college, where her life was written for her by the time she graduated. That's why Rafe Cameron liked her so much ─ Juliet was nothing like him.

It sucked for Rafe when Juliet's parents wrenched her away from him, so she could go back to focusing on what mattered ─ studying molecular biology, not the science behind making out. Some might say they were a doomed couple anyway. A boy not far off being diagnosed as a psychopath, with raging daddy issues and more money than he knew what to do with. And a girl with good manners, from a good family with just about enough to keep them going, and her head set on an Ivy League school, where a good career was guaranteed at the other end. But Rafe didn't care what other people thought. He needed that lifeline that Juliet provided for him. An escape for whatever Ward Cameron wanted to set his son up for.

But her parents had other ideas. And did not want their valedictorian, clean record daughter to get caught up in any mess where Rafe Cameron was involved. And the two parted ways ─ Rafe not far off from a life of crime, now that Juliet, his anchor that was always there to bring him back to a sober, obedient Earth, was out of his life. And Juliet, cursing her parents' names for taking the one aspect of her life away that didn't make her teenage existence seem like a tragic draught, dry of fun and excitement.

Now single, another summer rolls around, and Rafe can't stop fucking up. Keeping it a secret from her parents, Juilet won't let Rafe spiral into a never-ending loop, that will eventually suffocate him until someone throws him in jail for life. But knowing his father, there was no way Ward Cameron would let his son get any kind of punishment ─ deserving or not.

                    And herein lies the problem ─ manipulative, and emotionally abusive Ward Cameron has always been Rafe's downfall. Rafe wanted nothing more in life than to please his father. And Juliet knew it. So when Officer Peterkin is killed at the hand of Rafe Cameron, leading to the beginning of his road of madness, Juliet is trapped at her own crossroad ─ turn him in, or help clear his name.

She knows it's wrong (it would make her an accomplice to murder, for Pete's sake!) but Juliet loves Rafe too much to see him make wrong decisions after wrong decisions. Even if that means going against all her morals and the law, as well as her parents' wishes to get there.

Let's just hope Little Miss Perfect doesn't get her hands too dirty. Or bye-bye Princeton University.

juliet is gavin's (the pilot) daughter, and if you have seen season 2 (spoiler alert coming!) we all know what happens to old gazzer

rafe hates the idea that juliet wants to get involved. he's the real "you touch her, and i'll kill you" kind of guy (my kinda trope). he doesn't want to get her in trouble, but she manages to convince him that she really wants to help him

juliet sees rafe kill peterkin, as her dad is a pilot and, as she's been to the tarmac many times before, she just so happened to be there when peterkin gets shot

juliet is a mix between shocked, disappointed, distraught, and concerned by peterkin's murder. she's worried for rafe's safety, as well as being angry and distressed that he thought that was the right thing to do in the moment

juliet's hatred for ward has to be obvious. we all hate him, so project that into her!!

there has to be an unfortunate personality change in juliet. that's what's supposed to be so shocking about this plot is that little miss perfect begins to get clouded by all of this illegal shit. it's not that she enjoys breaking the law, but covering for rafe and hiding dead bodies almost becomes a norm for juliet in a way

she is blinded by the fact that she cares for rafe, and so all of the bad things that he has done, she just sees a boy that needed to be loved

my whole image for this fic is rafe crying into juliet's arms as she tries to calm him down and tell him everything is going to be okay

juliet is technically a kook, but finds the whole split statuses stupid and is lose friends with the pogues

her best friend is sarah cameron

i DO NOT condemn what rafe has done in obx, just as a disclaimer, but drew's hot, and i thought this whole mr and mrs smith vibe would be kinda cool
