JAMIE MCCOY HATES SAYINGS. The one's that adults use to try and be funny? The ones that creat unrealistic views towards life, because they're based on very untrue factual evidence? Like a picture is a thousand words. What kind of magical bullshit is that? Just say "it's easier if I explain it with a picture". OR a stitch in time saves nine. Who wants to guess what that means? It means deal with problems straight away, rather than letting them sit. You wouldn't know, though, right? So what's with the "nine" part? Jamie wants to know because Jamie McCoy hates sayings.

She'll break one down for you: an apple a day keeps the doctor away! Now, who the fuck decided to conceive that dogshit? As a training nurse, this hurts her soul. Was it just a little phrase to make sure kids eat their fruit and veg? Because surely as parents, you should just be able to make them eat the food that is vital for a healthy lifestyle, rather than having to threaten them with the thought of going to the doctors?

Jamie's problem with sayings, is actually quite simple ─ why don't you just say it as it is? Life's brutal, and an apple isn't going to help. Jamie knows this more than anyone. Working as an intern for one of Ohio's biggest hospitals is great for the experience and for her future career. But for her mental state? That shit puts emotional damage on a whole other level. She watches families say goodbye to their loved ones, every day, and it never gets easy. And she's only in training. What happens when she does this professionally and she's the one that has to break the bad, no awful news to the relatives? This is why you should just say it as it is.

SIMON KALIVODA WON'T ADMIT LIFE'S BRUTAL. He prefers to saunter around with a smile and make jokes about mythical witch curses because his town is a piece of crap. Unlike some, Simon admits that. He's not in denial that his school is terrible, or that he should probably get out of Shadyside right about now, but he doesn't do anything about it. Because life's fine, right?

And then his brother overdoses and he doesn't quite know how he should feel about it. On the one hand, it's now clear that his brother needs serious help fighting his addiction, but on the other hand, the nurse that just told him that Timothy's alive, but in "critical condition" is very, very pretty . . .

─ another plot that i don't have much to say about . . .

─ this came to me a 4 am in the morning when i was trying to go to sleep, so it's a lil messy

─ jamie is a sunnyvaler, so she doesn't go to the same school as simon (she meets him for the very first time at the hospital, as timothy's assistant nurse)

─ she only works the job on weekends and gets assigned timothy when he is bought in

─ she got the job at the hospital as an intern, so that's why she's an "assistant". jamie wasn't the one that actually revived timothy, but she was in the same room and she is the one that delivers the news to simon and his parents that tim was "stable"

─ simon takes a liking to her and decides to visit his brother in hospital A LOT. his parents find it weird because normally he wouldn't care, and he doesn't actually, he just wants to see tim's nurse (jamie)

─ sometimes when simon does go to visit tim, jamie isn't there and he's INCREDIBLY disappointed (because she only works weekends he does learn this after talking to her)

─ title explanation: (see quotes below) simon says this when the two of them are sitting in tim's hospital room, whilst tim's asleep recovering, because simon wanted to be around jamie to make a good impression, and jamie needed to be there just for supervision

─ jamie isn't at all interested in dating someone because she's a student in high school, studying to get into harvard to study medicine, and an intern at a busy hospital, but to shut him up and in order to stop simon from bothering her at work, she agrees to go out with him

─ they become friends, and jamie ends up getting involved in some witchy crap

─ jamie doesn't believe in the curse and just thinks it's immature and silly

─ she also doesn't care for sunnyvale v shadyside. to her, she doesn't care where you come from and that any rivalry is childish and adolescent

─ simon reminds me a lot of otis from sex ed in this plot, and jamie reminds me of maeve :)
