Chapter 3

You awoke the next morning to the sound of shouting coming from somewhere in the dorm.

You groaned and pulled your blankets up and over your head, trying to block out the sound.

The journey and drama that unfolded yesterday exhausted you and all you wanted to do was go back to sleep.

"I TOLD YOU TO STAY OUT OF THE KITCHEN WHILE I'M COOKING YOONGI!!!" Came Jin's voice, making its way through your protective covers, ensuring you that there was no possibility of sleep now.

You sat up in bed, squinting your eyes in the direction of the door to where the yelling was coming from, listening carefully to the exchange.

"ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! YOU REALLY JUST BURNT MY SPINACH AND CHEESE BREAKFAST SOUFFLE!?!"

Jin's voice was getting louder with every word and you started to fear for Yoongi's life.

You swung your legs off the side of the bunk, climbing down and jogging to the door. You opened it quickly and started walking towards the yelling.

You came out into the common area and spotted the two boys in question staring at each other angrily in the kitchen.

"You deserved it," Yoongi growled, "Coming in and out of the bedroom and being obscenely loud all morning."

"I NEEDED MY SPATULA!" Jin yelled, throwing his hands up in defeat.

"Why the hell would your spatula be in the bedroom?!" Yoongi asked, voice still filled with anger and annoyance.

You were frozen in place, staring into the kitchen from the common room.

Jin walked over to the stove and picked up a pan with what seemed like a black burnt-to-a-crisp souffle inside, holding it out to Yoongi.

"MY SOUFFLE!!!" he screamed, eyes looking crazy.

You slapped your hand over your mouth to muffle the laughter threatening to escape your lips.

How does he even know how to make a damn souffle?

Just then Namjoon came out of the room to the right of the kitchen, sleepily rubbing at his eyes and yawning.

He stalked over to the kitchen where Jin and Yoongi were in a stare-off, grabbing the souffle out of Jin's hands to examine it.

He turned his gaze to Yoongi disapprovingly.

"Did you burn Jin's souffle again?" he asked, raising his eyebrows.

Again?

Yoongi didn't reply, he just stood there, crossing his arms in a huff like a stubborn child.

"You were given the gift of having one of the strongest fire affinities in the school and you use it to burn breakfast food? Seriously Yoongi?" Namjoon asked incredulously, setting the burnt souffle into the sink and stretching his hand out to motion in your direction.

"You've traumatized Y/N on her first day, smarten up." he finished, and with that he stalked back in the direction he came from, muttering a quick sorry at you before disappearing into the bedroom.

Somehow Yoongi having the affinity for fire doesn't come as a shock, you thought to yourself, slightly amused.

You shifted uncomfortably on your feet before walking towards the kitchen, shuffling in-between an un-moving Yoongi and Jin.

Yoongi scoffed and walked back to his room, shutting the door behind him, leaving you and Jin in the kitchen.

Trying to your awkwardness, you opened up the fridge to see if you could find any food to sate your growling stomach, the theatrics of this early morning making you wide awake.

"Sorry about breakfast," Jin said behind you, startling you slightly, "I was trying to make something nice to welcome you to the school but Yoongi came and ruined it."

Not finding anything in the fridge you turned around and walked over to the coffee machine.

"That's sweet of you Jin, but don't worry about me!" you replied, smiling at him in hopes of making him feel better.

"In any case, please take this as an apology." Jin said, walking over to the potted plant sitting on the window sill in the kitchen.

You watched as he approached the barely-in-bloom flowers, bringing his right hand to hover over it. As he did this, the bud of one of the flowers started to slowly open, revealing a beautiful pink and orange peony. He plucked it and brought it over to you, winking and smiling sweetly before heading in the direction of the bedroom.

So, his element affinity is Earth... you thought to yourself, staring at the flower in your hands, can't say I'm surprised. It's perfect for a total flirt like Jin.

Just then an energetic looking Jungkook came bounding into the kitchen.

"Good morning Y/N!" he said happily, practically skipping over to stand beside you.

"Good morning Jungkook! Did you want a coffee too?" you asked, setting the peony down on the table and grabbing some mugs out of the cabinet above you.

"No thank you, but if you're making a hot chocolate I'll have that instead!" he exclaimed, grabbing the mixture off the top shelf and setting it on the counter.

"For breakfast?" you asked questioningly, raising one eyebrow at him.

"Chocolate is one of the main food groups Y/N, everyone knows that!" he replied, nudging your shoulder and making his way over to the fridge.

"Are you nervous for your first day of classes?" he asked, head still inside the fridge looking for something.

"Well... not really. I'm just kind of nervous for the creative studies class." you said, a knot forming in your stomach at the mere thought of it, "we didn't have those classes at my other school and I really don't have any creative talent.."

Jungkook shut the fridge doors, coming back over to you with a carton of milk in hand.

"Really? I thought all the Magic schools had creative classes..." he set the milk down and turned around, using his hands to pull himself up to a sitting position on the kitchen counter.

"Nope, definitely not" you replied, taking the now finished brewed coffee off the stand and pouring it into your mug.

"Oh... well don't worry! Everyone in Second Year takes the same creative studies class, so I'll be there to help you out!" he said, smiling sweetly at you.

"Great, now the whole of second year gets to watch me embarrass myself..." you said under your breath, letting out a sigh as you stirred the milk into your coffee.

"Hey! Cheer up!" Jungkook said suddenly, "It's going to be fun, I promise!"

You looked up at him smiling, what a sweetie.

You turned the coffee machine back on and switched it to only dispense hot water, starting Jungkooks hot chocolate for him.

Once you had both finished your drinks you went to get ready for classes.

The boys had decided that they would give you free rein of one of the bathrooms in the morning to protect your privacy, a gesture you were beyond thankful for.

After you had showered and finished your hair and makeup you made your way to your trunk in the bedroom.

You picked out a pair of ripped jeans and an over-sized sweater with your year's sigil embroidered in purple on the front, which you had borrowed from Jungkook.

You had opted for comfort over style regardless of the fact that it was your first day. You were never known for your sense of fashion, why start trying to impress now?

You came out to the common room and showed Jungkook your schedule, finding out that you had all the same classes. He practically squealed with excitement, telling you that you had to sit beside him in every single one.

The walk to your first class was long, as it ended up being all the way over on the west side of the school.

You walked there with Jungkook, listening to him gush about all the fun things you could do at the school, every once in awhile pointing to a painting on the wall or a particular room, over-explaining them to you.

You followed Jungkook into the Charms and Hexes classroom, it was a room relatively smaller than what you were used to. It was set up like a small lecture hall with individual desks and a chalkboard at the front.

You and Jungkook made your way to the back of the class where there were a few empty seats available. You chatted for a bit until the teacher came into the room.

"Good morning students, I see everyone managed to make it to class on time!," the teacher said, looking around at all the students, "A great start to the term. I also see we have a new transfer student joining us."

Your cheeks burned as the entire class collectively turned their heads around to stare at you.

"Why don't you stand up and introduce yourself." The teacher said as she strolled towards the middle of the room.

You cursed internally. You hadn't even started speaking and already you wanted to die of embarrassment.

You reluctantly stood up, hardly able to raise your head up from where it hung with nervousness.

"I-I'm Y/N. Transfer from Aurox Magic Preparatory Academy in Y/C." you finished, bowing to the teacher and sitting back down in your seat.

"Welcome Y/N! I hope you find yourself at home here at Maelyeog Academy of Magic!" the teacher replied, "My name is Mok Eun-ju and I will be your Charms and Hexes professor this term."

And with that she turned the classes' attention back to the front, allowing you to let go of the breath you had been holding for the last 30 seconds.

"Well that was traumatizing.." you whispered under your breath to Jungkook, who laughed in response.

The rest of the class went by smoothly, the teacher spent the rest of the time explaining the curriculum for this term and going over the rules of the class.

Second-year students weren't allowed to perform any charms or hexes without professor supervision, anyone who broke this rule was automatically suspended. A rule you were all too familiar with since it seemed to be the norm for all schools you had heard of. You don't start doing charms and hexes on your own until at least halfway through your Third Year.

After class was finished you walked with Jungkook to the second class of the day, Systematic Study of Elemental Magic. This was the class the school was known for all over the world, and you were really excited to find out why.

You followed Jungkook through doors across from your first class, walking out into the courtyard. It was a huge beautiful space, bordered by the school. There were hundreds of flowers of all different species and colors, you could see some third and fourth year students growing them from the grassy areas all over as you walked through. Butterflies flew everywhere making it look like a paradise oasis, everything leading to the center where there was a large circular fountain. In the middle of the fountain was a statue of who you could only imagine was the founder, Kim Kyung-soo, water pouring out around his feet and sprinkling out of his hands like magic. It was breathtaking.

"Wow..." you muttered under your breath.

Kim Kyung-soo was often thought to have had the strongest water affinity the world has ever known, the fountain almost seeming to boast about that fact.

"Beautiful isn't it? It's my favorite place in the school!" Jungkook said happily, dragging you along a little faster, "Come on, we're going to be late for our next class!"

You followed Jungkook through the doors on the other end of the courtyard, and down the hall to a set of large double doors. Your mouth dropped open as you walked through them and got your first look.

The room was designed to be like a university-sized circular lecture hall. All the desks curving around and going four rows back from the round elevated platform in the middle. The ceiling was dome-shaped and made entirely of beautiful and colorful stained glass. It was split into five parts, all seeming to symbolize the 5 elements. Inside each part were symbols and pictures representing or depicting the element section they were in. You studied it in awe as you followed along behind Jungkook, not paying attention to where he was dragging you by the sleeve of your sweatshirt.

You went to sit down in the seat that you were guided to but ended up getting your foot caught under the leg of the desk. You twisted around to free yourself and ended up falling backwards instead, flinging your hands out to grab the nearest object, pulling hard towards whatever it was to try and save yourself from hitting the floor.

Seconds later you found yourself laid sideways across a chair, torso half onto some kind of soft surface. You briefly sighed in relief before looking up to meet the eyes of the thing that broke your fall.

Eyes?

You were starring straight into the eyes of Jimin, who looked like he was about to burst into laughter.

"Can I help you Y/N? he asked, smirking at you.

"I-I uh" you fumbled, quickly straightening yourself up and moving your chair back into its place, "Sorry.." you mumbled sheepishly, cheeks burning so hot you were sure they were as red as a cherry tomato.

"No problem, always happy to help a beautiful girl in need!" Jimin laughed, turning his attention to Taehyung who was sitting on the other side of him.

You pulled your hood up over your head in an attempt to disappear.

The earth needs to open up a hole underneath me and swallow me, you thought angrily to yourself.

"Are you okay?" Jungkook's voice suddenly coming from your left side.

You looked over at him under the protection of your hood, shaking your head at him.

He laughed, taking the seat beside you and reaching over to pull the hood off your head.

"I leave you alone for two minutes Y/N." he said, "How did you even survive without me before?"

You buried your face in your hands, resisting the urge to look to your right where Jimin was.

"Good Morning everyone!" the professors echoing voice making you suddenly snap your head up.

"Welcome to Second Year's Systematic Study of Elemental Magic!" he continued. The professor strolled to the middle of the class, walking up the couple steps to stand on the center platform. "My name is Yeong Chun-ho and I will be your Elemental Magic professor for this term. I will be carefully guiding each and every one of you through the next month as you prepare for the Element Ceremony."

You looked around at the room, every seat having been filled.

Is this everyone in second year? you thought to yourself, eyes wandering the class and attempting to count all the students.

50. Yup, that's all of us.

You sat up straighter in your seat as you continued to listen to the professor.

"Over the next week we will be discussing and going over the preparations for your Element Ceremony, starting with Earth and leading up to Spirit." he paced around the circle, meeting the eyes of every student, "You may think you know what element affinity you will have but please do not get your hopes up. The elements are unpredictable and we do not want anybody to feel disappointed on a day that should be one of the happiest in your life here at Maelyeog Academy of Magic."

You bit your lip nervously, looking to ether side of you to check the reactions of the boys.

They were just staring forward, a bored look on their faces as if this sort of thing happens every day.

How can they be so calm? you thought, The element ceremony is in a week!

"Earth. The most common, 40% of our school have the affinity for this element." the professor motioned for the class to look up at the green-colored section of the stained-glass dome ceiling.

"Air. Also common, 35% of our school have the affinity for this element" you turned your attention to the yellow section of the stained glass ceiling.

"Water. Slightly more rare, 15% of our school have the affinity for this element" your eyes studied the blue section, knowing damn well this wouldn't be your element. You've been terrified of water for as long as you could remember.

You heard whispers from beside you and looked over in time to see Jimin and Taehyung high-five each-other.

"Fire. A rare element, 9% of our school have the affinity for this element" he continued, giving you flashbacks to earlier this morning when Yoongi burnt Jin's souffle. You chucked to yourself at this memory.

"And lastly, we have spirit. There are only two people in the school with this element. One of them being the headmaster and the other being our Third Year student, Jung Hoseok."

Hoseok has the affinity for spirit? you thought to yourself, but smiling as you remembered his adorable introduction yesterday, On second thought, that's absolutely perfect for him.

As you looked up at the dome, your eyes were immediately drawn to the spirit section of the stained glass, a ringing in your ears appearing and dissipating suddenly. You winced at the sensation, bringing your hands up to your head in confusion.

What the hell was that?

The rest of the class went by smoothly, you learned more about the rarity of the elements and what that meant for each student. The professor went around the class and asked everyone what their parents affinities were, explaining that about 70% of the time you inherited the affinity from them. Luckily, you dodged this question, not wanting the attention you would get from everyone knowing both of your parents had two affinities. Considering 99% of people only ever had one there was no doubt in your mind you would have to endure more embarrassment.

After class had finished you shuffled out with the boys, saying your goodbyes and following Jungkook to your final class before lunch.

The third class was boring, you knew everything there was to know about Astronomy and Astrophysics as it was always your best subject at Aurox Magic Preparatory Academy.

Your stomach growled loudly throughout the entire lecture.

God, I can't wait for lunch.
