Chapter 14

Finally lunch time.

Your stomach had been growling loudly all through your Astronomy and Astrophysics class, gaining a number of weird looks and scoffs from your classmates.

I swear to god, Jin better be feeling 100% in time for tomorrow's breakfast or else the whole school is going to think I'm malnourished.

You crashed yourself down at an empty table in the cafeteria waiting for Jungkook to return with your tray of food, when you were suddenly pulled out of your thoughts by Hoseok, who was now sat beside you.

"Yah! Hobi! When did you get here?" you yelled, a little louder than intended.

"Calm down, calm down," Hoseok tutted, "I just need to talk to you."

"Well is it more important than my life? Because you scared me half to death!" you snapped, hand on your heart for added effect.

"Well actually...." Hoseok trailed off, giggling awkwardly next to you.

"Hobi, is everything okay?" your voice suddenly changing from nagging to concerned.

"Of course it is!" He gleamed, seemingly an automatic response from the sunshine boy. "I'm just a little confused about how you did it."

"Did what?" you tilted your head, looking questioningly at the boy.

"You know, in class earlier. The bird, it approached you without my command." He started, scrunching his face up in confusion. "It's my glamor, so I should be the only one that can control it..."

"Honestly Hobi, I have no idea. Maybe your subconscious likes me," you offered, smiling and winking at the boy in hopes of calming his concerns.

"Nuh-uh, no way! You shouldn't flatter yourself!" he grinned, pulling you into a playful headlock.

"U-uhm, what's going on guys?"

Wait a second...

Looking up, still placed in Hoseok's headlock, your jaw dropped at the two boys who were staring at you accusingly.

"Wouldn't you like to know, Jimin!" Hoseok scoffed, swiftly letting go of your head before firing Taehyung and Jimin a sinister wink.

Why does he always see me like this...

"Yah! Hyung! You shouldn't touch my best bunk bud like that!" Jungkook came swooping in, seemingly ready to start a brawl on your behalf.

"Honestly Kookie, I'm fine! We were just playing around," you giggled, reaching out to ruffle the boys hair.

Without another word Jungkook slid your lunch tray to you, before promptly sitting down beside you and shoveling a handful of fries into his mouth.

"I'm so hungry I could just die," you blurted, following Jungkook's lead of stuffing your face with the nearest food on your plate.

You didn't need to turn your head to figure out who had just sat on your other side, the heat radiating off him made it all too obvious.

"Is anyone giving you trouble today?" His warm breath whispered in your ear, sending shivers down your spine.

You hummed a reply, shaking your head no at his question, not wanting to worry the boy any more about the crazy 'witch bitches'.

Closing your eyes as you finished the last of your food, you let the contentment of Yoongi's presence warm you up, the troubles of this morning seemingly distinguished.

As lunch was drawing to an end, you followed the rest of the boys to return your empty food trays.

Suddenly without warning, a gust of wind came right at you, smacking your food tray into your face and knocking you backwards onto the floor.

"Who the hel-" You let out a frustrated groan, immediately reaching up to wipe the food scraps off your face.

It seemed as though the whole cafeteria had erupted in a fit of laughter, and at your expense no less.

Glad I could be the source of everyone's f**king entertainment, you thought angrily to yourself.

You looked up, searching for a bit of help as your gaze automatically went to Jimin.

He started walking towards you, slowly reaching his hand out for you, when out of no where Taehyung's form appeared behind you, arms hooking around your torso to help you onto your feet.

Jimin's head dropped as he brought his outstretched hand back to his side.

You watched as he instead opted for helping you pick up your food tray and bag that had been flung across the floor.

"Ji-hye, I swear to f**king god, if that was you-" Yoongi snarled, walking up to the girl and gaining looks of curious bystanders in the busy cafeteria.

Ji-hye stood there with her hands raised, a smug yet innocent look plastered on her face.

"What? I didn't do anything Oppa!" she whined back in a deafening tone.

Grabbing your arm and snatching you away from Taehyung, Yoongi placed his coat around your shoulders and dragged you out of the cafeteria.

"I thought you told me no one was giving you any trouble, hmm?" Yoongi said in a worried tone, bending his face down to be closer to yours.

This guy is seriously perfect boyfriend material

Am I swooning right now?

I think I am

Oh my god, I'm actually swooning.

Feeling your cheeks turn pink at his proximity, you held your breath trying to think of a convincing reply.

"I'm fine Yoongi. It was just a bit of wind..." You eventually breathed out.

"Uh-(Y/N)?" Came another voice beside the two of you. "A-am I interrupting something?"

You swung your head around to Jimin who was now standing next to you, his eyebrows raised at the pair of you.

Crap

"I got your bag for you... from the cafeteria. Some of your food spilt onto it, so I tried to clean it off for you, but...." he awkwardly trailed off, holding your bag out to you.

"T-thanks Jimin," you stuttered back at the boy.

"I-if you like, I can walk you to your next class?" Jimin asked, subconsciously raising his shoulders to his ears as if he was afraid of your answer.

"I'd love t-"

"Don't you have Charms class now, Jimin?" Yoongi asked the boy with a deadpanned face.

"Y-yeah, and?" Jimin stammered, looking at Yoongi with furrowed eyebrows.

"Well isn't that on the opposite side of school from her history class?"

"Ohh.. yeah I guess it is," Jimin said awkwardly, rubbing his hand on the back of his neck. "I guess I'll see you later in Creative Studies then, (Y/N)."

He scrunched his eyes up into a cute smile at you, before turning around to head to his next class.

"Come on, I'll take you to class," Yoongi mumbled beside you, taking your hand and gently pulling you down the corridor.

The walk to your History class with Yoongi felt so conflicting. On the one hand, you were so happy to be with him. He always made you feel safe and warm, and he was always so cute and caring towards you. Everything felt right about him.

But on the other hand, you couldn't help but feel a little disappointed at not being able to walk like this with Jimin.

What on Earth is going on inside this head of mine...

Walking into your history class, you pulled up a chair next to Jungkook just in time for the History teacher to storm into the room.

"Alright everyone!" She yelled out to the class, clapping her hands to gain attention.

"Today's class seems fitting, seeing as your Elemental Ceremony is tomorrow! Everyone turn to page 742 and read to yourselves the first 2 paragraphs on the Making of the Elemental Ceremony."

Groaning in unison with the rest of the class as you all flicked your pages over to the aforementioned chapter, you quietly read as instructed.

The Elemental Ceremony (or 'The Coming of Age Ceremony') is a communal and meaningful time for each gifted person in their second year of magic school. It was first established in 1820 by the High Council and Kim Kyung-soo, the founder of Maelyeog Academy, one year after the school's grand opening in 1819.

Previous to this, any gifted person was granted the right to learn and use their elemental affinity at any age, depending only on whenever they were brought upon the High Council.

For centuries this caused tremendous backlash.  Not having sufficient knowledge or the developed skills to fully control their powers, many people blamed underage affinitists for exposing the gifted community to the public eye. With the number of inappropriate situations increasing rapidly, the High Council was alerted and forced to take immediate action.

After working together with Kim Kyung-soo, a decision was made by the High Council to increase the age for a gifted person to learn and use their elemental affinity. That decision was, as it stands today, that any gifted person who has completed their country-of-birth's standardized education and successfully completed their first year of magic school can attend an Elemental Ceremony to obtain their Affinity/Affinities.

The Elemental Ceremony was created as a celebration and coming of age badge to young Affinisists, a time honored tradition and a wondrous occasion that all students and faculty of magic schools look forward to every year.

Rolling your eyes at the page laid out in front of you, you really couldn't bare to put another thought into tomorrow's ceremony. Your nerves were already playing up enough as they were.

You glanced over at Jungkook who was fidgeting uncomfortably in his seat next to you as he rea from his book.

The poor boy looked like he was barely keeping it together.

And I thought I was stressed about tomorrow's ceremony...

Maybe I can surprise him with something later on to cheer him up, you thought to yourself, wanting desperately to comfort your disgruntled bunk bud.

As soon as History class finished, you skipped out of the classroom ahead of Jungkook and made a detour to the uniform shop.

You looked through the wide selection, narrowing your eyes as if it was going to help something jump out to you.

"Perfect!" you said out loud, picking up a small hand-made bracelet.

It had a dark green leather woven band, with a delicate silver pendant joining in the centre, engraved on it was the Earth Elemental symbol.

With this, he'll always have a bit of earth with him... No matter what happens tomorrow.

You quickly rushed to the counter, paying for the item and having it wrapped up into a small parcel so you can gift it to Jungkook later tonight.

Ugh, Creative Studies! You mentally cursed, sprinting down the corridor to your next class.

"(Y/N)!" a voice yelled as soon as you entered the classroom.

Looking around with a vacant expression, the corner of your mouth quickly turned into a smile when you realized who it was.

"TaeTae! How are you?" You gleamed at the boy, throwing your bag down.

"I'm better now that you're here!" his face scrunched up into a contagious, rectangular smile.

You reluctantly took a seat in between Taehyung and Jungkook, leaving Jimin on the end.

As soon as your teacher entered the classroom, she sent everyone off into their pairs to continue working next week's project.

Taehyung desperately tried going over the routine you had practiced yesterday, but being the hopeless case that you are, you'd totally forgotten it.

"Yah, (Y/N). You've got to help me help you!" he whined in frustration, smacking his face with both of his hands, taking a few breaths to recover himself.

"I'm sorry Tae," you pouted at the boy.

"It's okay, we'll get through it. I couldn't ever be angry at you anyways!" He gleamed back, walking behind you and taking hold of both of your wrists.

Just like yesterday, he guided your body through each movement with his own.

At first your body tensed up, a little embarrassed of the sudden contact, but soon enough you had loosened up, seemingly flowing with the music you had both picked out.

"I've got an idea, (Y/N)!" Taehyung suddenly sprung excitedly from behind you. "You seem to dance much better when I'm guiding you, so why don't we do a partner dance!"

"Isn't that what we're doing? We're paired off... into partners?" You clarified, confusion thick in your voice.

"Not that! I mean partner-partner dance! You know, hand in hand?" he said, taking your hand and pulling you closer to him.

Pausing, he stared down at your intertwined fingers.

"If you'll let me," He continued, with a barely visible blush appearing on his face, "I'll take the lead and physically guide you. We just might have a chance for our performance after all!"

Taken aback, your mind began racing with witty comebacks to fire at the boy, hoping it would somehow mask just how nervous and jittery this idea made you.

Because you've never danced with a boy like that before...

"S-sure Tae, I just hope you've got some foot protection," you smiled awkwardly back at the boy.

Wow... Of all the things I could have said I picked the one that makes me sound like an idiot.

Genius.

Before Taehyung was able to send a response back, the school bell rang loudly indicating the end of class. Within seconds Jungkook was bouncing impatiently at your side, waiting for you to follow him to your next class.

"Don't forget, we're going to practice again tomorrow night!" Taehyung called out as you were leaving.

"Tae, we live together! We'll see each other before then!" You yelled back, rolling your eyes playfully at the boy just before heading out the door.

You linked arms with Jungkook, reluctantly following the corridor to the locker rooms, to prepare for your Practical Defense Training class.

Ugh.

You made the wise choice of mentally blocking the last hour of defense training from your mind.

It. Was. Hell.

Your teacher really took pleasure in making the whole class do drill test after drill test, without any breaks no less.

you were sure your limbs were about to fall off.

Her excuse was that today's class had to make up for tomorrow's, seeing as the entire school gets to take a class holiday to attend the Elemental Ceremony.

I swear she's actually the devil.

~

You decided on waiting until after dinner to talk to Jungkook, once the rest of the boys had gone to bed.

Once you were sure everyone was asleep you tiptoed into your shared bedroom towards Jungkook's bed.

You lightly nudged him awake before taking a seat next to him on his lower bunk bed, ruffling through your bag before handing the small wrapped parcel to him.

"What's this?" he whispered, looking at you questioningly.

"Just Open it," you smiled.

You watched as your best bunk bud slowly unwrapped the gift.

"I know you're worried about the ceremony tomorrow... I just wanted you to know, that no matter what happens, you'll always have a bit of earth with you."

He slid the bracelet out of its casing, holding it up to his phone light to better examine the engraving on the pendant.

"Wow, (Y/N)-"

"Kookie, you're my best friend. I'm always going to be here for you and nothing, not even a stupid affinity, is ever going to change that." You softly cut the boy off, pulling him in for a hug.

"Thank you," he whispered, sniffling a little against the tears threatening to fall. "You know I'll always be here for you to-"

"I know, Kookie," you smiled, closing your eyes and tightening your hug. "I guess we're both officially stuck with each other now."

A silent tear rolled down your cheek as the pair of you let out a quiet giggle, lightening an otherwise melancholy mood.

It wasn't just Kookie dreading the outcome of tomorrow's ceremony.

"We'd better get to bed now," you sighed, breaking away from your hug before ruffling Jungkook's hair.

"Yeah.." Jungkook sighed back. "Sweet dreams, (Y/N)."

"Sweet dreams, Kookie."

Climbing up to your top bunk, and sliding under the covers, your mind quickly recounted all of the crazy events that had gone down in the last day as you finally shut your eyes.

As of tomorrow, It's all going to change.
