———
You wandered out into the living room the next morning, rubbing your eyes sleepily.
Somethings wrong here... you thought to yourself as you looked around the room.
The usual smell of gourmet breakfast was missing this morning.
You walked over to the kitchen, surprised to find it dark and empty.
"Good morning Y/N!" Hoseok's sing-song voice came from behind you.
"Morning Hobi!" you replied, smiling at him.
He skipped past you towards the coffee machine, flipping it on and grabbing cups out of the cupboard.
"Want one?" he asked, peering back at you with a smile.
You nodded your head slowly at him, still trying to wake yourself up.
"Please" you said, looking back to peer around the empty common room, "Um, where's Jin? He's usually up by now making breakfast."
Hobi sighed as he glided over to the fridge to get the milk.
"He got really sick last night after everyone went to bed, so I convinced him to take today off and just sleep" he said.
"Aww poor Jin" you pouted, starting to walk over to his room, "Do you think it would be okay if I went in and checked on him?"
"Go ahead! The rest of the boys are already dressed anyways."
You walked over to the Third Year boy's room, turning the handle as you heard a loud crash.
Bursting in you froze in the doorway at the scene playing out before you.
"THERE'S. TOO. MUCH. SALT!" Jin yelled, waving his spatula in Yoongi's direction.
He was sitting up in bed with a bowl of soup in his lap, his face was pale and colorless and his hair completely disheveled.
The 'mother' of the dorm was definitely sick.
Yoongi narrowed his eyes at him dangerously.
"Why you ungrateful little sh-"
"How am I suppose to recover when you're feeding me soup that's 70% sodium!?!?" Jin screamed, cutting the boy off.
"You're lucky I made you anything at all!" the fire boy piped back, stomping over to pick up the spatula and a pillow that Jin must have thrown at him.
You giggled, covering your mouth with your hand, unable to hold back any longer.
"Wow Jin, you're going to be a real handful when you finally get a girlfriend" you teased, still laughing at the boys in front of you.
Jin's crazy eyes were immediately replaced with a smolder, his lips turning up to a smirk.
"Any lady would be lucky to end up with me, Mr. Worldwide Handsome"
Even in his most sickly and ugly state, this boy still has the power to make any girl go weak in the knees.
He leaned onto his elbow, blowing a kiss at you.
Before you even noticed what he was doing you felt a surge of power suddenly whip around you.
You looked up in time to see rose petals gently float down from above you, seemingly out of nowhere.
You caught one of the petals in your palm, rolling your eyes at the ridiculous gesture.
Before you had time to react you heard a frustrated groan.
"Are you f**king kidding me? No way. Nope. Not a chance. I am NOT cleaning up after your flirtation flowers again" Yoongi snapped, grabbing his school bag and walking out the door.
He paused beside you, leaning in to whisper into your ear, just loud enough for Jin to hear.
"Don't let him fool you, I'm the real Worldwide Handsome at this school" he said, winking at you before walking towards the front door.
Jin scoffed, waving his hand dismissively at the boy who had already left the dorm room.
"He's just jealous because I--I- AHHH CHOO" Jin sneezed, making the soup in his lap spill all over his bed.
"S**t" he groaned defeatedly, putting the soup down on his side table so he could try to fix the mess.
You laughed and shook your head, making your way back to the kitchen, "Feel better Jin!" you called back.
The rest of the morning went off without a hitch, considering you weren't roped into matching outfits today.
You made a compromise with whiny baby Kookie that you will only have matching outfits once a month on a day of your choosing, unable to endure the drama that ensued because of it for any more than that.
You drank the coffee Hoseok gave you, chatting to him as you scarfed down a granola bar, hoping that you could get the energy without the effort of making a real meal.
You got ready as quickly as you could, throwing on a pleated skirt, a uniform long sleeve shirt and the way-too-expensive Gucci shoes (so that you could avoid the sad puppy expression that Taehyung would undoubtedly have on his face otherwise).
"Don't forget your family grimoire!" Jungkook said excitedly from beside you, "I'm so excited I could just scream!"
"Um, you kind of are screaming Kookie" you laughed, turning to reach into your trunk in search of the book in question.
Family grimoires are tradition for gifted people, each person gifted one for themselves by their parents at the time of their birth.
When a gifted couple are about to have a child they bring their own grimoires to the closest Elder (some stuck up authority figure, slightly higher than a principal but slightly lower than the High Council).
The Elder then uses a magic only they posses to combine the grimoires of both parents, along with relevant information perhaps unknown to the parents themselves, in order to create a new and personalized grimoire for the child.
More often than not the contents of the new grimoire are a relevant combination of both sides of the family, outdated information removed and both sides of the family history added.
There's rarely anything of great value in them, mostly just charms, hexes and hints added by family members tracing back centuries. You might have been more excited if you didn't already know your totally average family history off by heart.
"Ah! Here it is!" you announced, pulling the book out from under a pile of clothes.
"Wow" Jungkook gasped, kneeling down beside you to take a closer look at your grimoire, "Yours is so cool!"
You scoffed, shaking your head at him.
"It's too extravagant if you ask me," you started, shoving the book into your backpack, "It's just an old book filled with a bunch of useless information."
Jungkook picked up his bag and began to follow you out of the room, running a little to catch up to your fast pace.
"But it's so exciting Y/N! We get to try out new charms and hexes and learn more about our families! How can you not be excited!?" he said all in a rush, linking arms with you.
Quickly changing the topic, you opted for discussing the latest video game Jungkook had bought, rather than going on about some boring dusty old book.
You were just in the middle of discussing his newfound tactic for capturing enemies when you felt a gaze burning into you.
Your eyes flashed over to find a girl staring at you, her eyes narrowed at you angrily.
Furrowing your brows, you tried to figure out who it was.
Oh my god... wait... isn't that?
The girl strutted past you, flicking her hair over her shoulder dramatically as she passed by.
"Hey, um, Kookie?" you stuttered out, nudging the boy with your linked arm, "Who's that girl over there."
You motioned to the girl behind you with your eyes, watching as Jungkook followed your gaze and immediately snorting in response.
"Oh, you mean one of Ji-hye's Witch Bitch Club members?" he asked, amusement clear in his voice.
"Witch Bitch Club?" you asked, raising your brows at him questioningly.
He sighed, brushing his hair back from his face.
"Ji-hye is the founder and leader of this 10-person feminist girls only group that leads the school in an Elemental Ritual once every two weeks" he explained, leaning in so that no one overheard him speak.
"That doesn't sound so bad.." you admitted reluctantly
"Sure, in theory. But they're notorious for being the biggest bullies in the school; not to mention their way of 'thanking' the elements is nothing short of a raunchy lets-see-who-can-show-off-the-most-skin show" he spilled, rolling his eyes before continuing, "There's so many rumors going around the school about them too. If you ask me, they're just using this club as a front for some kind of underground Satan worshiping cult. Would not be surprised."
You stared at him wide eyed.
"I'm joking! Chill out!" he laughed, reaching over to mess up your hair.
You laughed at his un-Jungkook like explanation, relishing in the fact he seemed to hate Ji-hye just as much as you were starting to.
"Sounds horrible" you laughed as you turned the corner into your charms class.
Namjoon was waiting inside with the professor when you arrived, coming by every student that was sat down and instructing them to place their grimoires on their desks.
You pulled yours out, sighing at the boring class that was sure to be ahead of you.
The entire class seemed like it was going by agonizingly slow, you almost fell asleep before Namjoon came by to smack his hand loudly onto your desk.
"Hey!" you yelled, glaring at the Harry Potter boy.
"Hey nothing Y/N! Pay attention!" he retorted, stomping his way back to the front of the class.
Jungkook laughed from beside you.
"Looks like someone is really enjoying their new teaching job!" he laughed, nudging you playfully, "But seriously Y/N, pay attention!"
Once the class had finished practicing the charm to open the grimoire, the teacher came around to each student individually to assist them.
Groaning internally when it was finally your turn, you felt a little guilty that you were unable to match the excitement of your bunk bud beside you, since he was squealing loudly throughout his entire turn.
You were watching him happily flip through the pages of his grimoire when you heard the teacher clear her throat from above you.
"Ahem, Y/N?" she said, interrupting your daydreaming, "Please recite the charm to unlock your grimoire."
You sighed, turning to sit up straight, and bringing your right hand to hover over the pentagram in the center of your book.
"Hoc reserare antiquis libri. Hoc reserare antiquis libri. Ostende mihi sublimis illud a temporibus antiquis."
You watched with bored eyes as black smoke dispersed from the pentagram, the locks holding the pages of your grimoire unlatched and each letter of the elements surrounding the star glowed brightly.
"A beautiful book you have there Y/N, one of the most unique locking charms I have ever seen! Excellent job!" your professor said politely before moving on to the next student.
"No fair!" Jungkook whined from beside you, "My book didn't glow like that when I did it!"
You smiled at him, reassuringly patting him on the back.
"I bet yours has better stuff in it anyways Kookie" you offered, watching him look back at his own grimoire.
"I can't wait to find out!" he squealed again, the jealousy from before disappearing as fast as it had started.
You turned your attention back to your grimoire, opening it to flip through the pages.
Average charm
Useless hex
Random tip about botany charms from Grandma
Another average charm
You didn't bother finishing your brief skim through the book, instead deciding to just close it and rest your eyes for the last 10 minutes of class.
The school's bell chiming loudly to signal the end of class was the only thing that could make you wake up.
You quickly collected your books and grabbed Kookie's arm to pull him along behind you.
He was still flipping through his grimoire, letting you guide him through the corridor so he didn't have to stop reading.
"You know Kookie, you're going to have to put that thing down before Professor Yeong Chun-Ho catches you" you urged at him, hoping he would put the book away and hurry to class with you.
Today you were learning about Spirit, the element you were most excited for.
Ever since you got to the school you couldn't help but feel connected to it, and it certainly helped having a roommate that was coincidentally the only person in the school with an affinity for it.
Jungkook pouted, reluctantly putting his grimoire away into his backpack.
"But there's so much neat stuff in there!" he whined, stomping his feet for added dramatics.
"I'm sure there is Kookie, but you have the rest of your life to read the entire contents of your grimoire and the Element Ceremony is tomorrow! We have to prioritize that!" you stressed, pulling him through the double doors with you.
You both made your way to your seats, smiling at the two boys already there waiting for you,
"Good morning!" Taehyung chirped, waving cheerfully at you and Jungkook.
"Morning Tae, you look happy today" you laughed as you took your seat.
"Why wouldn't I be! You're wearing the shoes I got you!" he said excitedly, peering over at you from beside Jimin.
You smiled widely at him before turning your gaze to the boy beside you.
"Good morning Jimin" you squeaked nervously, blushing a little under his piercing eyes.
The boy smiled back at you, his eyes squinting in the most adorable way.
"Morning" he replied before getting his books out of his bag.
Phew, at least the weirdness from yesterday is gone, you thought, relieved that you didn't have to endure an entire class of awkwardness.
"Hello class, I hope everyone got enough sleep last night and you're all ready for today's lesson!"
You looked up at the professor stalking towards the middle of the room.
"This will be your last class before the Element Ceremony" he started, eyeing every student in the lecture hall, "Tomorrow morning you will gather in the school's courtyard for a quick assembly on the workings of tomorrow's event and will shortly after be lined up to enter the schools Elemental Temple."
You felt a knot form in your stomach at the mere mention of the ceremony.
"I feel sick" you whispered out, feeling your hands start to shake with anxiety.
"You okay?" Jimin asked, whispering into your ear so close you could feel his breath on your neck, sending shivers down your spine.
"Y-yeah, I'm fine. J-Just really nervous," you whispered back, attempting to swallow the lump in your throat.
You were nervously playing with the hem of your skirt when you felt a warm hard grab your own.
You looked down to see that Jimin had laced his fingers through yours, squeezing your hand for reassurance.
Your cheeks burned against the butterflies swarming in your stomach.
Oh my god. I'm going to die.
"It's going to be okay," he said, leaning in to you again, "I promise."
You let out a deep breath and nodded, not trusting your voice.
Jimin let go of your hand, slowly untangling his fingers from yours.
You had to physically stop yourself from whining at the sudden loss of contact.
"Before any of this can happen we need to cover one last element; Spirit. And to do this we have our very own Jung Hoseok to give us further insight." the professor motioned towards the double doors just as they swung open, a bright and cheery Hobi skipping through them.
The class clapped at his entrance, an interesting and slightly amusing scene, the boy seemed to revel in the spotlight.
"Hi everyone!" he beamed as he made his way up to the circular platform to stand beside the professor, "My name is Jung Hoseok, it's nice to meet you!"
You smiled at the boy, your heart warming at his infectious presence.
"Hoseok will be explaining Spirit to you today, please give him your undivided attention and save all questions until the end of class."
With that the professor stepped down off the platform and walked over to an empty seat, letting the Spirit boy take over.
"So, as your professor just explained, I have the affinity for Spirit! And I'm really excited to tell you about it!"
You tried to hold back a giggle as you watched Hoseok pull out a folded piece of paper from his pocket, straighten it out and clearing his throat.
"Spirit is considered the most rare element for gifted people to be granted an affinity for! People with the affinity for spirit, like myself-" he smiled brightly and raised his arms up in a pose, "have a special connection to human and animal emotions. Spirit Affinisists can often manipulate human emotions such as calming down someone with anxiety or soothing the anger in someone who is in the middle of a fight. I will demonstrate!"
Hoseok looked around the class before spotting his target, motioning for the shy girl to join him in front of the class.
The girl shuffled nervously towards Hoseok, bowing her head as if she was ashamed to even be there.
"Hi there, what's your name?" Hobi asked, bending down to her eye level as she approached him.
"Ji-soo" she mumbled out, barely audible from where you were sat.
"Hi Ji-soo, I can tell that you're quite nervous right now, is this true?"
The young girl just nodded, not lifting her eyes from where they were fixated on the ground.
Hoseok smiled and reached out to put his hand on her shoulder.
You felt a shock run down your spine as he worked his magic on the nervous girl in front of you, watching as Ji-soo transformed her posture from hanging her head low in shame, to standing upright and painting a comfortable smile on her face.
"How do you feel now?" he asked, stepping back to let her talk.
"Soooo relaxed!" she said, smiling and swaying slightly on her feet.
Hoseok thanked her and motioned for her to return to her seat.
"As you can see, Spirit can be used for great things! Helping people overcome negative emotions!" Hoseok began to pace around the circular platform, capturing the gazes of everyone in the room, "Another slightly less-than-common gift that can manifest in a Spirit Affinisist is the ability to astral project! Think of it as like being a ghost! Your soul can leave your body and explore our plane unseen to the naked eye!"
You looked around the class at everyone's faces, noticing that not a soul in the room was looking anywhere other than the Spirit boy's smiling face.
"I don't have this ability unfortunately, its a little bit out of my range of skill but one thing I do have is the other less-than-common talent of manifesting a glamor. I am far from perfect, as I can't manifest a glamor of another human, but I can manifest a glamor of some animals! Watch this!"
You watched as Hoseok slowly raised his right hand, palm down, to his shoulder height.
Closing his eyes, a purple glow started to emanate from his hand, you held your breath as you locked your eyes onto his movements.
All at once he flung his palm out in front of him, an orb of purple smoke flinging outwards before morphing into the shape of a bird. The once purple smoke now a full-color budgie taking flight around the classroom.
Your jaw hung open in awe as you watched the bird fly gracefully around the classroom, swooping down close to the students.
The bird turned suddenly, darting towards where you were sat.
You braced yourself as the bird gently landed on your shoulder, tweeting into your ear and nuzzling into your cheek.
You smiled, the tingling present in your palms lost on you in the moment.
"Woah, the Spirit bird likes you!" you heard Jungkook's cheery voice pipe up from beside you.
Before you could react much further the bird dispersed into a ball of purple smoke, much like how it had appeared, and then was gone.
You looked out into the classroom to see everyone staring at you wide-eyed.
Including Hoseok himself.
You ducked your head slightly in embarrassment as the Spirit boy shook his head to clear his thoughts.
So he didn't send that bird to me on purpose?
You stayed low for the rest of class, not bringing anymore attention to yourself but still intently listening to the rest of the lesson.
Hoseok continued to explain that there are a few other rumored abilities of Spirit Affinisists, but they were unrecorded and therefore not recognized as true skills. He also mentioned that Spirit was by far the most difficult element to control, and was the hardest Affinity to gain an excessive amount of power in.
You were too enthralled by the lesson to even begin to think about taking notes, instead making a bunch of mental notes.
It's not like I'll get Spirit anyway, only 1% of people get that Affinity...
When class was over you excused yourself quickly, leaving the three boys behind as they rushed over to talk to their Spirit friend.
Weaving through the crowds of students in the halls you made your way to the bathrooms.
You stood in the stall, leaning against the door and just focused on breathing.
Calm down Y/N everything is going to be okay, it doesn't matter what element you get tomorrow just as long as you get through it in one piece.
You shook your head in an attempt to clear the anxiety before leaving the stall and walking up to the mirror.
Looking up, you gasped at the sight before you.
Written on the mirror in what appeared to be black ink was the words:
The Charmed Enchantress Society is watching you, foreigner.
You stared straight ahead at the words, trying to make sense of them.
Is that the name of the group Kookie was talking about earlier? Only Ji-hye and her goons would call me a foreigner like it was an insult...
Before you could form another thought the words disappeared into the glass, leaving you staring at your own reflection.
"Witch Bitches" you grumbled, turning to stomp out of the bathroom, slamming the door behind you.
You fast-walked down the hall, avoiding the gazes of a group of girls laughing in your direction.
I swear to god Ji-hye is going down, no matter what it takes.
