Five
Sandor wasted no time approaching the two. He gently pulled Melody off Bronn and glared down at the smaller man. Bronn held his hands up. "Ya know I wouldn't 'ave touch 'er. But ya should do a better job of keeping an eye on 'er. If I 'ad been anyone else, I would've taken advantage of the situation." Sandor let out a growl. "Get out of my sight. Ya best hope I don't tell her Lannister what you were doin'." Bronn simply chuckled and walked away.
Once Bronn was out of sight, Sandor turned back to Melody. Her arms were crossed under her chest, pushing up her bosom. Sandor did his best to keep his eyes on her face. Her bottom lip was puffed out in a pout. "Saaaaaandooooor! Why did you have to ruin my fun?" she whined and Sandor rolled his eyes. She was a whiny and brazen drunk. Great.
"Come on, woman," he said softly, taking her hand in his much larger one. She pulled her hand free and fell to the carpet. "No." Sandor's groan reverberated down the empty hallway. Apparently, in addition to being extremely forward, Melody reverted back in to a child when she'd had a few too many. Instead of arguing with her, Sandor bent down and scooped her up. He didn't fancy the thought of her puking all over his back, so he carried her bridal style to her bedroom.
Inside the luxurious room, Sandor set Melody down on her bed. He turned to get her a glass of water and when he turned back, he nearly dropped the cup. Melody was shimming out of the form-fitting gown. "What are ya doin'?" Melody pouted again. "I'm uncomfortable!" Sandor set the glass down and approached her. He stilled her hands from removing the gown. "Wait. I'll get yer maid." As much as any man would want to see Melody's body, Sandor had to keep her dignity intact. He didn't want her to have any regrets in the morning.
Sandor left and found the maid, who quickly followed him to Melody's room and got her prepared for bed. When the maid reappeared in the hallway, Sandor gently grabbed her arm. "Not a word." The woman glared and nodded. "Worry about your own job." Sandor frowned as the woman walked away. Why did it seem like everyone in the world was trying to make his job more difficult?
In the morning, Sandor was at his post early. He had slipped in while Melody was still asleep and left a glass of water and some aspirin on her nightstand, then he returned to his post. It was only a little while later that he heard a loud groaning coming from inside Melody's room. "Sandor," she called out to him, softly. If he hadn't been right outside the door, he wouldn't have heard her.
"Are ya decent?" He asked through the door. At her hum of affirmation, Sandor slowly opened the door. Melody was sitting on her bed, her dark hair tousled from drunken sleep. Her face looked even more pale with the dark circles under her eyes and the smeared lipstick. Sandor fought the urge to laugh at her. "What happened last night?"
"Ya almost did something incredibly stupid is what," he responded. His gaze fell to the aspirin and water next to her. "Ya should take those. Yer gonna need it today." Melody did what he asked as the maid came bustling in. "Good morning, Miss Melody," she chirped, earning a glare from her employer. "Please tell me there's coffee on a tray right outside the door." The maid nodded. As she passed by Sandor again, the maid's eyes narrowed once more.
Melody saw this, but didn't say anything. She needed coffee first. "I'll let ya drink yer coffee in peace." Sandor turned to leave the room, but Melody stopped him. "Wait, please. I need to talk to you about what happened last night." Sandor nodded and took his place in a corner of the room. Dotty came back in with Melody's coffee. "Close the door behind you, Dotty." Dotty looked between Melody and Sandor. "Miss, I really don't think-" Melody's glare cut her off.
"I didn't ask, Dotty. This conversation is between me and Sandor only." Dotty twisted her apron around in her hands. "Really, Miss Melody, I can't. Think what it would look like." Melody very slow set her coffee cup down on the nightstand and crossed her arms under her chest. Sandor looked away from her as memories of her from the night before flooded his mind. "I don't care what it looks like. Now please do as I asked and for gods' sake stop treating Sandor like he killed your family." Dotty scurried from the room, practically slamming the door behind her.
"Now, what exactly did I do?" Melody asked Sandor as she picked her coffee cup up again. "Ya can't hold yer liquor." Melody didn't look impressed and Sandor sighed. "Ya almost went off and fucked some man that wasn't yer fiancé." Melody groaned and ran her free hand over her face. "Who?" Sandor debated telling her. "Lannister's best friend. Bronn, I think." He thought it best not to mention the fact that she also started stripping in front of him.
"Jaime is going to throw a fit," Melody said and Sandor shook his head. "No he won't. Bronn didn't touch ya, but he won't say anythin' ta Jaime. And yer maid, the one that hates me, I told her not ta say a word. He certainly won't hear it from me." Melody grinned and got up from the bed. She made her way across the room and actually hugged Sandor.
He stiffened immediately. This was probably some leftover effects from the night before. He awkwardly wrapped his arms around her. She smiled up at him and backed away. That's when Sandor saw it. He felt his face turn red and he averted his gaze again. Melody glanced down and her own face lit up with a blush.
Melody was mortified to see that she was still wearing her underwear and thigh-high stockings from the night before, along with her t-shirt. No pants. "Um...perhaps you should go now," Melody said, backing up a little further, "I'm going to put on pants...well not just pants. Obviously I'm not going to walk around in my nightshirt all day." She was babbling and Sandor had to bite the inside of his cheek to keep from laughing.
He had to admit that he liked this side of her. The awkward, rambling side that she had to keep under wraps when she was with Jaime and their families. "Sandor...you're not leaving." Sandor shook himself out of his daze and left the room. To his dismay, Jaime was passing by. The Lannister looked at Sandor suspiciously. "What were you doing in there?" Sandor quirked a brow. "Miss Baratheon wanted ta go over her schedule for today." Jaime nodded and moved along. "Tell her I'll be waiting downstairs."
As soon as he was out of sight, Sandor leaned back against the door. He couldn't help the nagging sense that he had done something wrong, even though he hadn't. Not technically anyway. It wasn't his fault he'd seen so much. It wasn't his fault he found himself thinking about Melody more than he should. Hells, he probably thought about her more than Jaime did, which is never a good thing. It wasn't his fault that he was falling for-
Sandor shook his head. No, he couldn't be. That would be the worst thing that could happen. He was just doing his job. Keeping an eye for Melody and protecting her. That was all. Nothing more and nothing less. As he ran his hand over his face, Sandor knew that really wasn't the case anymore. He also didn't know how long he'd be able to keep his desires at bay.
