Eleven
Melody stood still for a second, letting her brain process what she was seeing. Neither of the lovers had even noticed she was there. Brienne cleared her throat softly, breaking Melody out of her trance. She slammed the door shut and practically ran down the hall toward the stairs. Brienne's long legs made it easy for her to keep up with Melody.
Melody headed straight for Stannis' office. Not even bothering to knock, she threw open the door. "I'm done!" she cried and Stannis barely looked up. "Lower your voice, please." Melody clenched her fists at her sides as she approached the desk. She decided the best way to get his attention. She slammed her hands down on the desk and moved Stannis' papers away.
Stannis sighed and set down his pen. "What is it now? I can't take much more of this, Melody." Melody glared at her older brother. "I will not marry Jaime Lannister." Stannis groaned. "We have been over this. You are marrying Jaime tomorrow. You don't have a choi-"
"HE'S FUCKING MY MAID! MY FUCKING MAID, STANNIS!" Melody cut him off, loudly. Stannis scoffed. "Is that all? So marry Jaime, fire the maid. Done." Melody shook her head in disgust. "I'm not going to marry him. I don't love him. I don't even like him, but even that I could handle. I will not handle cheating, Stannis." He arched a brow. "Says the woman who was sleeping with her guard."
"I never slept with Sandor. Though now I wished I had. Maybe then you'd listen to me! I can almost guarantee that this isn't the first time Jaime and Dotty have been together. That's probably why-" Melody stopped her train of thought. It made sense. If Sandor had known that Jaime and Dotty were sleeping together, then Jaime would have had a bigger reason to fire him than a one-time kiss.
"Where did you put Sandor up?" Melody asked and Stannis shook his head. "That is for me to know. I am not going to let you go and indulge your ridiculous fantasy." Melody realized she wasn't getting anywhere with Stannis, so instead, she decided to leave and find the one person she knew would help her.
"I'm sorry, Miss Baratheon," Brienne said and Melody gave her a small smile. "Nothing for you to apologize for. It's my own fault for being so stupid." Melody saw Davos heading her way and waved him down. "Davos, please. I need your help. What hotel is Sandor in?" Davos didn't reply at first, his loyalties torn between Melody and Stannis. "Please, Davos. I have to talk to him." Davos ran a hand over his salt and pepper beard before giving in. He jotted down name of the hotel and the room. "Go get him."
Melody hugged him and started for the garage where her baby was parked. "Miss Baratheon, I'm afraid I can't let you go. I have orders." The young woman glared at her guard. "Brienne, you're my guard. You protect me from others, not from myself. So, you can either get in the car and protect me, or you can stay here and get fired. The choice is yours. Whatever you decide, I'm leaving and I'm going now."
Brienne thought for a second, but Melody was already walking away. Jaime appeared at the top of the stairs and called her name, making Melody walk even faster. Brienne quickly followed after. She had no intention of losing her job, especially not after only three weeks. Like Sandor, the blonde gaped when she saw Melody's car. She climbed in and Melody sped off in the direction of the hotel.
"What are you going to say to him?" Brienne asked and Melody frowned. "I have no idea. But I have to know if he knew about Jaime and Dotty." Brienne watched Melody's face. She could tell that her charge had something else in mind. "That's not all is it?" Melody shook her head. "I have to know. I need to know if he loves me, Brienne." Brienne remained silent for the rest of the drive.
"Wait here, Brienne," Melody ordered, not bothering to shut the car off. She knew Brienne wouldn't run off with her baby. She glanced down at the paper Davos had given her, looking for the room number. Her heart was pounding in her ears as she nearly ran to the elevator. Once she arrived at Sandor's floor, Melody started slowing down. What would she even say?
Steeling her nerves, Melody stopped in front of the door and knocked. Her knees started knocking together as she heard movement from inside. The door swung open and Sandor stood there, looking more than a little upset.
"What the fuck are ya doin' here?!" he snapped and Melody flinched. She wasn't going to let him intimidate her. "Did you know?" she asked and he stared at her. "Did you know about Jaime and Dotty?" He nodded in reply. Melody resisted the urge to slap him. How could he not tell her? "I see." Sandor leaned slightly against the door. "Ya need ta go home. Yer gettin' married tomorrow." Melody shook her head. "No I'm not."
"Yes ya are. Yer gonna marry that Lannister and have his babies. It's yer duty ta yer family." Melody shook her head again. "No! I won't marry a man who cheats on me. Especially not when I love you!" Sandor scoffed. "Well, yer wastin' yer time with me. Now get outta here." Melody's bottom lip started quivering and Sandor closed the door in her face.
"Sandor?" No answer. "Fine, I'll go. But know that I love you and, if you love me too, come to me before the ceremony. We can run together." With that, she left. Melody felt completely numb as she walked back out to her car. In that moment, she could only pray Sandor would come to her before she said her vows.
