I'm Okay

Stevie rushed inside her house and ran to her bedroom. Sara had been walking out of Aaron's nursery and saw her mother's bedroom door close.

Sara knocked softly and pressed her ear to the door; she could hear sobbing coming from inside the room. Sara took a chance and turned the doorknob and made her way to her mother who was curled into a ball in the middle of her bed sobbing.

"Mom?" Sara said attentively. "What happened?"
Stevie just shook her head and didn't say anything.
Sara climbed into the bed and brought her mother into her arms. Stevie sobbed in her daughter's arms and wouldn't let go.

After a while, Stevie finally calmed down enough to tell Sara what had happened.

"Oh mom. I know it hurts that daddy isn't here and that he was your soulmate...but, mom, I think you should be open to a new relationship. I mean, I'm not saying marry Uncle Tom tomorrow." Sara chuckled. "You should take your time. There's no rush." Sara said. "Plus, if you were to be with someone, I think Uncle Tom would be a great choice. Also, I think daddy would approve of you moving on with your life and being happy with someone."
Stevie sighed then she pulled away from Sara and said. "Deep down I know you're right. But...oh I don't know. I do know that I need to talk to Tom though. I kind of just...left him out there in his car. He probably already left."

Just then, the doorbell rang and Sara rushed downstairs to answer the door before it could wake up her siblings.

When she opened the door, a nervous looking Tom was standing in front of her.

Sara smiled warmly and said. "Hi Uncle Tom. Come in."
Tom stepped in and said. "I'm sorry. I'm worried about your mom and it took me all this time to summon up the courage to get out of my car." He chuckled nervously.
"I'll go get my mom." Sara said as he led Tom to the living room. "Just sit tight."

Tom sat down nervously on the sofa hoping Stevie would come down and talk to him.

A few seconds later, Stevie walked down the stairs still dressed in what she wore to dinner, minus her heels. She took a deep breath and walked into the living room.

Tom stood up and said. "Stevie...I'm sorry. I couldn't leave without knowing if you were alright."
"I'm okay...just...well, you caught me off guard." Stevie said. "I wasn't expecting you to tell me that...you are in love with me."
"Again, I'm sorry, I should have kept that to myself." Tom said sadly.
Stevie shook her head. "No Tom, I'm glad you did. Now that I had a moment to myself and I had a talk with Sara...I can say that...I would be open to a relationship with you. Just give me some time Tom." She said.
Tom smiled and walked closer to Stevie. "Of course! We will take this slow! As slow as you want to take this. You set the pace."
Stevie smiled and hugged Tom. "Thank you."

They broke apart and Stevie offered Tom some tea. He accepted and once the tea was done, they both sat on the sofa and talked.

Sara came down to check on them and smiled wide when she saw Tom and Stevie looking relaxed and were talking like they normally would. Just then, Aaron's cries filled the air. Sara rushed to get him and knew he was hungry. Sara didn't want to but Stevie was the only one who could feed him, so she reluctantly walked downstairs with Aaron in her arms.

Stevie turned as she heard her baby boy cry; she stood up and took him in her arms.
"Thank you Sara. You can go to bed now. I've got him from here." Stevie said as she hugged Sara goodnight.
"Are you sure mom?" Sara asked.
"Yes I'm sure." Stevie said giving Sara a reassuring smile.

Sara nodded then said goodnight to Stevie and Tom and walked to her room.

"Tom, can you excuse me for a moment?" Stevie said. "I'm going to change real quick and I'll be right back."
"Of course. Take your time." Tom said.

Stevie rushed upstairs to her bedroom and changed into her pajamas. She then grabbed a nursing cover from Aaron's nursery then she settled him under the cover and began nursing him. She walked back downstairs and settled down back next to Tom.

"I'm sorry for keeping you up so late." Tom said.
"It's no problem. I'm up at this time anyway." Stevie chuckled. She sighed happily then said. "Tom...I'm glad we went out on a date. I really had a great time and I'm glad we got to talk now."
Tom smiled and said. "Me too Stevie."

Lindsey watched on at Tom's and Stevie's exchange. He walked over to Stevie and settled his hand on her shoulder. Stevie felt instant warmth and love fill her. Lindsey bent down and spoke into her ear. Even though she couldn't hear him, he said. "It's okay angel. You can move on with Tom, or anyone else you choose for that matter. Well, except for Don Henley. I'll never forgive you for that." He chuckled. "But seriously, I know Tom will treat you the way you deserve to be treated, like a queen. I love you Steph."
