Joseline and Shanon, best friends since they were five, live three hours away from each other. But that doesn't keep them away from each other. Every summer vacation, Shanon's family drives to where the rest of their family lives to make up for lost times. Telling stories, ranting and camping, their parents always thought the two liked each other. After all, they held hands, slept in the same bed, once pretended to be parents themselves. A silly idea the younger ones brushed off.

But one thing Joseline and Shanon kept secret: They had their first kiss together. It wasn't romantic or anything, just for the good memories to remind them that the other person loves them no matter what. They were like soul mates, always making sure the other is happy.

This summer, Shanon is desperate to meet up with Joseline. His first girlfriend ever broke up with him and he is sure his best friend's reassuring words and warm hugs will make him feel better.

He looks down after his confession, his hand still entangled in mine. His eyes bear a sad wave of blue, one that breaks my heart just thinking someone didn't appreciate him enough.

I approach him and give him a peck on the lips, taking my time when I feel the warmth of the connection. My lips stay close to his longer than I intended for them and I shiver when he finally breathes.

"What was that for?"
